Goblin Slayer season 2 didn't do anything to advance the plot in any meaningful way. We waited years to see this second season only to get the same format. A bunch of filler episodes of them killing goblins. Is that so bad? No, but the story isn't going anywhere and the final episode used the same format as the first seasons final episode...they tease a bigger plot that you're simply not invested in. Sure, the characters have great designs and the animation is good enough, but we seemingly will never get backstories on our protagonists. I can't relate to and invest in any character in ... this show except Goblin Slayer because they simply don't have any story outside of what their role in the party is. Nobody in the show even has a actual name! So, with that being said I believe I'm going to give a thumbs down for this season and I'll likely not invest in this anime anymore simply because it's not doing much of anything outside of killing goblins.

So here's the thing. Goblin Slayer was a huge success of an anime, and reason being is that you get invested into the story so you can find out what led GS to become an adventurer, what happened to him and why is he so obsessed with goblins? Season 1 wrapped it all up nicely in the last episode and we got a happy ending, nothing left to discuss. It's safe to say this anime didn't need a 2nd season, and the only reason it got a 2nd season is because of its prequel's success.
But here's what I don't like about sequels, it completely and ... utterly destroys whatever the viewer's interpretation of the whole anime and ending was. Adding more frosting to a already perfectly frosted cake doesn't mean it's going to taste better. This 2nd season should be more of an OVA, because there's really nothing else to add to the story. We've already seen this guy kill goblins nearly every episode in the first season, there's no reason to create more story to such a wacky storyline in the first place, the only reason 1st season was good was because we got all the context information we needed in a single season.

These are just my personal opinions though so take it with a pinch of salt, if you liked the 1st season and want to give the 2nd season a try then do so, all I'm saying is that you shouldn't get your hopes up because there's really nothing left of the plot to be told, they're just winging it with some more fan service.

Yet another thrilling and entertaining season of Goblin Slayer. The only shame is that it does not reveal any crucial backstory and is rather a series of short stories. With one having an annoying extra character. It's not so deep as a first-season and it looks like they had to cut some mature content that was in a first season the strawberry on a cake. Plus I think the budget was tighter for some reason.
For everyone who enjoyed the first season, I can somehow recommend it. Just don't expect the same feel as in the first season or the movie. Be sure to watch the ... movie first there are some little references to it.
Those who haven't yet seen the first season go for it. It is worth watching.

I like Goblin Slayer, however I will admit it has it's flaws

first is the unnecessary harem where a majority of the female characters fall in love with Goblin Slayer for seemingly no reason. Only girl I could say has a good reason to be in love with him is his childhood friend. That's more or less a tiny complaint, my main complaint is Goblin Slayer doesn't really feel like it has a story or direction, it feels more like we're watching a group party complete side quests more than anything. Still entertaining, but it's very unlikely there will be any major developments this season.

As far ... as the animation goes, it's good. Nothing that'll blow you away, but it's a small upgrade from season 1.

overall, Goblin Slayer is good, I can see why people would hate it, or find it boring though.

A sequel that was fundamentally different from the original, not necessarily for the worse, but definitely not for the better.

The original goblin slayer was this gritty, grey world where the party uses their flexibility and resourcefulness to overcome the unexpected threats of goblins. The shock scenes were a perfect compliment to the world building and immersion. It also had its fair share of bond and comradeship moment.

Goblin slayer 2 was fundamentally different. The show focused much more on slice of life and world building (albeit pretty shallow). The artistic direction was changed to better accommodate this, as well as some censorship of violence. We see ... some character development, but nothing groundbreaking.

Goblin slayer 1 can only be described as Goblin Slaye, due to its charmingly unique style and story. Goblin slayer 2 can be described as "Isekai with a little bit more focus on goblins", because in all honesty, this is all it is.

As a standalone this is a very solid anime. It encapsulates a strong blend of combat, SoL, character writing, and world building. However, when it is the sequal to Goblin Slayer, the jarring difference between this and the original is immediately obvious. What's furthermore, even as a non-source material reader, I can easily tell that there were tons content skipped, often too much, which makes the story feel disconnected.

There's nothing bad about this anime judging purely by itself, but once you expect a sequel to Goblin Slayer, as many watchers rightfully should, you are left with confusion and bizzareness at best, or disappointment at worst.

Oh, and the opener by Mili was an absolutely banger.

Nobody who recommends this has any taste, and definitely has no standards. There is nothing unique nor great about this series, and no part of it is laudable in any way. It is as bland as it gets, which, due to the Goblin Slayer title/vibe, makes it absolutely awful.

Nobody dies* or gets hurt, nor does anybody get raped. (*except for some bg characters that are never introduced, have no names, and never show up again)

Starting a story with a party wipe & a rape sets a tone, sets some expectations, and definitely sets a standard. This series (this half, ig) has none of those. Violence ... and rape are optional, and serious, so if they're part of the story, they should matter. If they're in the 1st episode of the 1st season, they should really matter! This season makes it clear that they do not matter, and it was just posturing.

To be clear: at least in Season 1 it was clear that the author liked piss and big titties, and maybe GRRM's Song of Ice & Fire. This season has no kinks, no side-jokes about how goblin-centric the Goblin Slayer is, nothing to differentiate it from any other edgelord-y medieval fantasy setting, and it is crystal clear that the author has nothing worthwhile to say about anything at all.

Well, except that they're really sexist.

There was so much S1 potential squandered — better to never watch this then to argue for what it could be.

I'm really a fan of this anime and I'm happy with it because I started the anime season 1 with the idea of watching a borderline hentai anime, but after watching this season I surprised myself invested in the show.

To begin with, the developments of the secondary characters slow down the pace of this season, which makes it a little unpleasant for spectators who want action, for me too, to be honest, but as for Goblin Slayer and the Priestess it was really enjoyable. to follow their change as the priestess hardens more and more goblin slayer detaches himself from his obsession even if ... it is not obvious.

Nothing to say about the art, it was correct, there is the animation which struggles a little, more precisely in terms of the facial expressions of the characters but when it takes action the level rises without censoring anything.

The opening "Entertainment" by Mili is one of my favorites, the songs put me in the mood of the anime

Personally I highly recommend watching, the anime is very realistic and makes us notice that we are made to follow a powerless MC who is struggling to kill goblins, no last minute level up.

From reading the LN's I can say that, Goblin Slayer has pretty interesting world building and lore. Like how none of the characters has actual names. Or the whole goblin slyer thing is kind of a background plot of the Hero's story. It has decent character work and pretty good actions. But unfortunately none of these can be found in this lackluster season.

This was in no way a bad season but just a very boring one. The plot didn't seem to advance much. And the few interesting storylines like the one about new recruits didn't quite land well.

For the positives I can say that the ... opening and soundtracks were great. Also this season expanded the world building a bit (But not nearly enough!). If you enjoyed season 1 you probably going to like this one as well.

It's not offensively bad, but it's not good either. While animation and sound design are well done story itself is lacking, not to mention main character who is so devoid of any defining features am surprised he's not translucent. I get it, it's meant to be power fantasy and his motivation is a simple one to get behind. For first season this worked to a degree and with some edgy and perhaps questionable events it managed to keep my attention until the end. Hope was that it will develop into mature and serious show. In reality it went nowhere.

Second season is pretty much more ... of the same from first. That might be good or bad, depending on what you want out of it. For me it's the latter. Am finding lack of world building, character development and some meaningful goal other than killing goblins, quite boring. Things might change in later 2/3 of the show, but I am struggling to find willpower to keep watching.

Am giving it mixed feelings because it's providing fans with more of the same. Some might love it, others might hate it. You should really judge it yourself. Couple of episodes are a good indicator what the rest of the show will be like I think.

A huge controversy was ignited by the first season of Goblin Slayer for its unique treatment of dark themes, like monster rape and a character obsessed with the idea of revenge. The way morality of goblins was raised as well as the question of whether their personas were created by nature or by the environment was under consideration. On the other hand, people have been speculating on the hero's ability to grow and develop other than his appetite for revenge.

At first, the show captivated audience with its plot, but after some time, the interest faded as viewers did not find it good enough. It did ... not investigate the possibility of repentance and salvation for monsters or the hero's quest to find his purpose outside of his hate-filled mission. However, it was not the case and the story turned into a line of missions for the protagonist and his team to fight the opponents and save the victims.

Some events of the protagonist's integration into the group and his slaying of the high-ranking goblins were standout, but the second season did not innovate a lot. It mainly reused the formula including tedious assignments and insufficient character development, and the most obvious was in the way the protagonist had interactions with the priestess. Design was not polished, and battle scenes lacked a punch.

Even though there were some attempts made to include more details about other characters and introduce different places, none of them had a substantial effect on the story. The series followed a dull-and-dull fantasy plot, which was devoid of any of the shocks that it used to be famed for. For the best it was an empty entertainment with a trivial plot; for the worst it was an incredible loss that was full of unreal characters and an unbelievable story.

Initially, the show's graphic content garnered attention beyond its actual quality. However, as viewers became more acquainted with it, they recognized its mediocrity. While fans of fantasy gaming might find some enjoyment, others should seek out more substantial fare and not mistake it for the richness of Dungeons and Dragons.

More deaths to goblins, more death to people who don't fear goblins, but now with more deeper character exploration.

This season we continue following the group eradicating more goblins. Through the season do we see them progress through different arcs and deal with different goblin nests. But a thing that is different from the previous season, is how they start to explore the characters and the larger world, in a more detailed way.

Throughout the season are the characters put in situations where they start thinking more about themselves and their position in life. This really helps with understanding the characters and gives them more depth. The ... plot in the arcs also brings the character to new areas and situations, which really supports the world building and the character development.

Thanks to the character development and the world building, is the gore part of the show way more horrible and thereby more impactful. The reason for that is because of the great relation viewers build to the world and characters, do the horrible acts of the goblins really feel horrible, which follows great in the footsteps of the earlier season.

The animation in the show is great, they really know how to animate so the atmosphere is matching the current situation in the show. Which gives some really beautiful scenes and some very dark scenes.

I would say this is a great watch and would therefore definitely recommend this. But if you were a bit scared of the gore in the previous season, would i suggest you reconsider watching this.

Slower-paced, less action, and with an episodic feel to it this time around. To top it all off, we have a studio change which is kinda hit and miss at the same time. For some, all of this is a deal breaker. But not for me. S2 of Goblin Slayer was like revisiting an old friend; not quite the same as the last time I saw them, but after an icebreaker it's as if we never parted ways.

The new animation/character designs can feel a little jarring at first, but either they got better at capturing White Fox's style as the season went on or I simply got used to it with time. Still a downgrade overall, IMO.


The characters of Goblin Slayer are back to their usual shenanigans, with some new faces added to the mix, some good and some not-so-good, but I suppose that's just par for the course. The old favorites are still solid and at the forefront, so no complaints from me.


Mili's back at it with another solid OP theme, which I'll admit didn't click initially like "Rightfully" did, but it grew on me as the season went on. Now on the other hand, "To the Misty Side" by Yuki Nakashima absolutely blew my expectations away. It might just be my favorite ED of the Fall 2023 season. She nailed it, 100%. The OST, on the other hand... nothing stood out to me, but hey, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.


To conclude, I'll say this: S2 is not like S1. I cannot guarantee that S2 will land as a fan of S1. All I can ask is to keep an open mind, and remember that ol' Goblin Slayer is, and always will be, all about the goblins. Nothing more, nothing less. Expect some greater-arching story, or large amounts of character development, and you'll be destined for disappointment. It's all about the goblin slaying, friends. Gotta purge 'em all.


8/10, S3 when?

Goblin Slayer Season 2 has been personally a bit disappointing this fall. It significantly falls short of the intrigue and impact of its first season, which left a mark with its interesting premise, decent animation, and a gripping soundtrack. However, Season 2 struggles to maintain the same appeal.

While the controversy surrounding the first season served as effective promotion, Season 2 takes a concerning turn with explicit warnings about violent themes in each episode. This, along with a change in animation studio to Liden Films, hints at a noticeable toning down of the show's previous intense violence and horror.

The capable handling of violence by White Fox ... in the first season is replaced by Liden Films' less experienced approach. This results in a decline in character quality and action scenes lacking the dynamic energy that defined the original, transforming the show from an R18+ to a more family-friendly rating.

Although the story remains somewhat passable, Season 2's pacing stumbles in the latter half. The attempt to delve into Goblin Slayer's character starts well but loses momentum. The elven kingdom arc feels underdeveloped, resembling filler with little substance. The rushed conclusion of the final arc leaves loose ends and omits characters teased earlier in the season.

Overall, Season 2 becomes a disjointed mess, showcasing the challenges of mishandling a sequel. Indifference or inexperience from the animation studio overshadows any remnants of the show's initial strengths.

Ironically, the very scene that brought the show into the spotlight contributes to the sequel's downfall. The dilution of disturbing themes, a fate many shows have faced, leaves Goblin Slayer Season 2 struggling to recover.

IN CONCLUSION:

Looking ahead to a potential third season, one can only hope for a correction, steering clear of the pitfalls that plagued this disappointing sequel. The show deserves a return to the essence that once made it memorable, overcoming the shadows cast by its missteps.

The charm of the first season disappeared with the animation studio, the first season was made without censorship and was cruel this season was externally boring As much as I liked Goblin slayer for the first season, I missed season 2, but it's good that the anime got a sequel, but it's gone They censored it so now I could have my 8 year old cousin watch it. Goblin Slayer season 2 is simply disappointing not awful, Singurul lucru pe care Lindenfilms la adus bun este că la Some fight phases with Goblin slayer no longer use CGI as they used in the first season ... but honestly I would have preferred a little CGI than this censorship.

Goblin slayer season 1 was nothing legendary but it was a decent watch with a good idea that was well executed. The second season in comparison feels like a drag to watch. It feels filler-ish even when the main story is taking place, the character interactions are decently fun to watch, the action is pretty mediocre compared to season one. the one saving grace is the final arc, which is also pretty mediocre compared to season 1.i dislike long and draggy reviews so to sum it up:

overall: just skip, its a waste of time.

So, I've now finished Goblin Slayer II and, I must say, that it doesn't have the same gravitas that season 1 did.

Although still very enjoyable and something that does stand-out above the heaps of generic fantasy/isekai trash that are pouring out lately, I do not think that this stands out as high as S1 did initially.

I could call it watered-down, as the show does still depict graphic scenes and lots of brutal goblin-murdering, but again, the shock-factor and gruesomeness of S2 is just not on the same level as S1.

This season focusses far more on the Priestess growing as a person, coming to ... terms with her faults and becoming a far more reliable and engaged member of the party. We also get some slight backstory on High Elf Archer and why she's an adventurer in such a ragtag group.
This is all weaved together with the typical goblin-massacring from the previous season, although, again, not to the same brutal degree.

I will also say that some of the later episodes felt odd, not that I can quite put my finger on why. I personally noticed some major pacing-shifts and a strange dip/changing of animation style and quality. Might be just me though.

Overall, it is more Goblin Slayer, just a slightly toned-down version to focus more on character growth this season.
I'll give it a 7/10.

Sadly, a lot of really great work gets spoiled buy the subpar conjurings of an author. There is no story here. There was no story in season 1 also. But, the hope was that that was a setup season. It wasn’t. There is just no story to be had here. No characters. No character arcs. No growth. No story. It’s just a D&D game with generic characters preforming their stereotypical actions and interactions. The characters aren’t even multiclassed, which could have at least made character interactions potentially more interesting. Nope, every character does/says exactly what that character would do. Every racial conflict between characters is ... played out exactly as it is in the Players Handbook.


It’s all just…….boring. Sorry. Wish I had better news here.

When first season of goblin slayer came out, II was positively surprised with first few episodes (especially the first episode) that introduce us to the world of goblin slayer. How adventuring is not all cheerful as it looks like in some animes and how unforgiving and brutal can it be to unaware and overconfident adventurers. It was violence, merciless and brutal first episode that got me and most people hooked to this anime, but as season went anime became softer and easier going on what it tried to sell in first episode. And Season 2 sadly continues this trend.

A little overview of second season: I ... would split it into three arcs. First arc is showing goblin slayer and his party as more experienced adventurers with higher rank helping to train new, young adventurers and prepare them for adventuring life. Second arc consists of Elf Archer attending her sister’s wedding. Finally, in third arc, goblin slayer and hid party go to capital city to deal with goblin threats and save missing princess.

Whole season felt like a big side quest that doesn’t move the main story much further. It follows goblin slayer and his friends in everyday life of an adventure: doing quests, helping new adventurers, hanging out… For some reason, it’s still considered as mature anime with 18+ mark (violence, blood, rape and similar things), but every episode seemed cheerful and something that was already seen thousands of times. If there was a graph of brutality and violence for Goblin Slayer series, first episode of season 1 would be at the highest point and then it would gradually continue to fall as series goes on. Season 2 seemed like kindergarten version of what Goblin Slayer was supposed to be.

There aren’t any major plots or character development that would keep people tied to the screen. Goblin Slayer mostly stayed the same, somehow bland underdeveloped character. He still only cares about killing goblins which is okay, but it could at least be corroborated with some character story progression or some threats that put main characters in tough situations. Other member of Goblin Slayer’s party are even more boring. Priestess always drools over Goblin Slayer, Elf Archer and dwarf are trying to be some kind of a comic relief which, of course, is poorly executed and Lizard guy is supposed to be some wisdom throwing member of the group. It quickly becomes stale and repetitive.

On thing that has improved is animation (not art style). There almost no CGI animations like in Season 1. Characters look more lifelike. Fighting scenes are decent for this type of anime where you don’t really expect much from animation. Especially if you watched season 1. On the other hand, art style has gotten worse. Character look more cartoonish with sometimes weird faces and expression. If you want to see the difference, compare Witch girl character looks from season 1 and season 2.

There are moments that were interesting from adventuring perspective. How they plan before they engage the enemy, how coordinated they all are. It shows that they learn from their mistakes as goblins do and it can be interesting to see how goblins and Goblin Slayer’s party adapt to given situations. Rarely you can see main characters going straight into fight without second thought. I mean, Goblin Slayer is some kind of Dungeons & Dragons type of series so it’s nice to see how they plan everything and how Goblin Slayer shows new tricks up his sleeves on how to deal with different types of goblins.

All in all, season 2, although worse than season 1, it’s still Goblin Slayer. There are goblins. It’s all about killing and defeating goblins. It does look like they try to make it more serious show with deeper story, but they didn’t manage to do that. If you didn’t like the first season, you will hate this one even more.

A markedly diluted experience in comparison to the captivating Season 1. Despite witnessing some semblance of character development, the entirety of this season failed to resonate with the same impact.

The narrative lacked its former allure, leaving a noticeable void in the overall engagement. The essence that made the initial season compelling seemed to be missing, creating an unsettling disconnection.

With a sense of anticipation, I look forward to Season 3, hopeful that it will rekindle the magic that initially captivated me. Perhaps, after , dare i say, wasting 240 minutes of my life in this season, the forthcoming installment will provide the fulfillment and satisfaction I've been seeking.

It lost that very feeling we were all waiting for from the first season... This season felt meeeh and i don't like saying this but it just felt like this, at the very last episode I just ended lowering my rating for this anime and I hate this, but it is what it is. In the end they tried something new and it ended up being boring, trivial and not interesting.

Art as always very good and nothign against it.
