A wholesome supermarket adver.... no, a product placem... no, a lovely Fantasy Isekai of a Japanese Salaryman / hobbyist Michelin Star Chef who gains the power of K-mart as his special isekai trait, and ends up kicking ass thanks to the power of a legendary gluttonous dog familiar.

The show ends up looking fairly standard, though it's clear the cooking elements have received extra attention. With the process of making various dishes and their final appearance resulting in some pretty tasty looking ... stuff.

Rest of the animations are pretty basic, but totally serviceable.

Again, fairly standard anime stuff. Nothing crazy, but nothing to bother you either. The show is very light hearted, so it has a nice collection of uplifting and relaxing fantasy tunes.


Story - 6/10

There really isn't much of one. Everything starts with the absolutely bare bones Isekai plot of a "heroes" being summoned to help defeat the Demon Lord and whatnot.

From there we take a small detour to "Rising of the Shield Hero" story, where the protagonist is mocked for a terrible ability. Though unlike the depression inducing trials the Shield Hero had to go through, the hero of this story is smart enough to just ask for a sack of gold so he can piss of somewhere in peace and not bother with any of this hero nonsense.

He eventually discovers the usefulness of his ability, finds friends/familiars and embarks on a quest of: "I don't want to do jack shit except see the sights and eat food."

And we get a bunch of that. There are some fight scenes but nothing particularly crazy.

The story might have more potential in the future, as the MC is a hero, but for now, it's a bare bones relaxation arc.


Characters - 8/10

The characters are few, but likeable. The MC is a pushover, but he's surprisingly intelligent. Though his intelligence is hindered by his terrible confidence regarding anything involving combat or danger, which does diminish his character somewhat. Despite how overpowered his potential is, and how safe it would be for him to become insanely powerful, he does not seem to care for it at all.

The main characters by his side are his two familiars which do have very distinct personalities, though most of their dialogue does end up boiling down to: "What's for dinner?" and "Oh, this tastes great" - followed by an in-depth description of why the food they ate was so good.

We also get a bunch of secondary characters who come and go, but again, all of them are likeable.

There are no real villains in sight. So the show truly is a wholesome experience.

Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi is a fairly weird Fantasy Isekai, a sub-genre that has been getting more and more entries. More and more shows feature protagonists with very unique circumstances - whether it's being a sword, or a teddy bear, or a vending machine. In this case, our MC happens to be a Michelin Chef in disguise who just happens to get a wholesale supermarket in his back pocket.

The show honestly does feel like it's some kind of a supermarket ad, but it is very wholesome, so I think it's a nice watch for anyone interested in Fantasy Isekai.

I'll keep this brief.

Fen is an annoying glutton,
Sui steals to show

The cooking is great and the core of the show, but its not a practical cooking guide, so if you watch cooking shows for entertainment then you will like this, but if you watch them for the recipes, then you probably won't like it as much.

The rest of this is such a generic isekai that it doesn't even try to do anything different, most of these moments are easily the weakest parts and so run of the mill generic that they are just dull as it is just going through the motions and seeking to ... pass the time until it can get to another section where it can focus on the cooking.

The problem is, even though the focus is on the cooking, over half the time is this 'B-Plot' isekai, and if it's entirely uninteresting and pretty bad, then that drags the whole thing down with it. So they needed to put just as much care and attention into the B-Plot as they did into the cooking.

So TLDR, the cooking parts are good, the rest of it is meh.

It's great! What I like about it is mainly the positive aspects and the mature kind-hearted main character. There are a lot of wholesome and fun moments that'll make you appreciate that food is awesome, and that you don't need an overly overpowered main character in order to enjoy it. The reason I haven't given it a 10/10 is the downside - you'll probably get fat by by how delicious the food is visually displayed and expressed. I probbably gained a kilo.. or 2 and a half.

Definitely give it a try. It's a bright, kind and safe material to read and will likely make your ... day more positive!

Campfire Cooking is a nice, cozy isekai story. You can simply turn off your brain, sit back and relax.

Like so many other isekai series, the main character (Mukouda) is very powerful. In this case it is more by proxy considering he himself is weak, but the Fenrir who joins him is extremely strong. Either way, Campfire Cooking is not about how powerful he and his familiars are, it is about the main character’s adventures in this new world.

How does he adapt to this new world? What struggles does he face along the way? How does he deal with having a special skill that seems ... quite weak at first? How Mukouda responds to situations as they unfold and how he interacts with the people around him are a large part of the fun in this series. His powerful allies bring in a lot of dead boss-level monsters, yes, but these happenings serve only to provide more cooking scenes and are the basis for a lot of comical interactions between Mukouda, his familiars and other people in the world.

Of course, a lot of the things that happen are awfully convenient and beneficial to our main character, but having Fenrir be the catalyst for most of those events is a decent enough excuse that I didn’t dwell too deeply on such matters.

What I found interesting was seeing how useful and convenient modern cooking ingredients and products can be. It’s not something I usually think about. Even though Mukouda appears to be an experienced home cook, half of his skill seems to come from using the right pre-made sauces.

Overall, the story was fine and very much slice-of-life-y. The characters are well-defined and neither complete cardboard cut-outs nor particularly deep. They’re distinct enough to play off of each other very nicely. Again, the focus of this show is on coziness and humor. And this is achieved with only a handful of characters.

Background music and sound effects were fine and unremarkable, while the voice acting was pretty good. The animation was alright for the most part, but there are a few cooking shots where the animation shoots up a tier or two for a few seconds.

I was honestly not expecting much but it was surprisingly entertaining and I hope we get to see more of Campfire Cooking.

MAPPA x Food ASMR x Isekai? Call it a success story.

There's pretty much no plot. The guy just goes around the world looking to find new stuff in this world. BUT, the characters and their interaction are so good. Especially, the MC and the Fenrir have pretty much perfect chemistry.

Animation 8.5/10
Anything scene involving food is like an instant 10/10. MAPPA cooked all the food irl and then rotoscoped it perfectly into the anime aesthetic. And talking about aesthetics, FINALLY, isekai with its own art style. It's so warm and cozy. Just perfect.

Sound 7/10
Pretty basic relaxing track for each scene which enhances ... the experience. The OPENING though was an absolute jam.

Overall 8/10
I love the fact that this show is being created by a bunch of newbies/interns at MAPPA, but since the direction has such a strong foundation, it's just so satisfying when a show was made efficiently and beautifully.

This is NOT your typical isekai trash.
The MC is not OP, he doesn't get a harem, he doesn't get sent on a year-long quest to find God or kill the Demon Lord.

However, there are typical isekai cliché elements for sure. The MC isn't OP, but his 2 familiars most certainly are and they are the plot devices that allow the story to progress - not that there truly is much of a story here in all honesty.
The 2 familiars also provide a majority of the comedy in this series as well.

The plot is simple: MC gets summoned to a fantasy world, but as a ... mistake. He's not part of the hero party and his skill of "online grocery shopping" is not considered useful by the kingdom who summons him.
I guess it's a bit of a joke by the writer(s), but the hero party do also appear to be teenagers (like most typical isekai plots), whereas our MC here is late 20s. The hero party also immediately take up the mantle of "going to defeat the demon lord", which again, is a bit of fun-poking.

Now, I did put this review as spoiler-free, but there truly isn't a whole lot to spoil - as I said earlier, there really isn't a whole lot of story or plot here. Everything I said above is part of the public blurb and the first 5 minutes of the very first episode.
It does appear as though there is set-up for political intrigue and a deeper plot within the first few episodes, but it never really gets brought-up again and due to how poor the LN and Anime performed financial-wise, I doubt we'll ever see a Season 2 to go into those points either.

The rest of the story is just our MC going travelling with his familiars, while making vast quantities of food for them and trying to make a living in his new world.
A lot of this anime is taken up with... what can only be described as a cookery show: "I cut the onions and add sake and soy sauce to this, while the rice is boiling away [...]", will be something that you'll be hearing in your sleep after watching this series.

All-in-all, it's a light-hearted anime, but a bit bare-bones and quite repetitive with the cooking elements. It isn't a stand-out or "must watch" series in my opinion, but is enjoyable to watch if you're bored and have exhausted the current anime season's offerings.
The relationship between the MC and his familiars also holds up a large portion of this anime.

I'll rate it a 6/10 "fine". I'll also label this as "mixed feelings", because some will certainly find this boring.

Overall I really like this anime.
While the characters are fairly one-dimensional, other aspects of the anime make it really enjoyable to watch. The premise is interesting, and while not unique it's different enough to stand out. The world and it's rules are gradually defined through the series and it's fun to learn about it along with the protagonist. While I'm sure more world building could be done, the amount this series has is definitely not bad. It's a fun and interesting world!
It's a nice anime to watch while winding down after a long day of work or school, or as a filler between other ... series you're watching. It's very easy to relax to.

I literally stumbled upon it while checking the available new anime for the season, and while the synopsis looked a bit boring (there's a lot of isekai anime already) I decided to give it a try. The presentation, humor and vibes it gave me in the first episode made me continue watching and three episodes in I'm completely hooked.

I'll probably check the light novels once the anime finishes, but I'm loving everything here, specially Fel (the wolf). It's made clear from the start that he's a powerful ancient monster capable of bringing destruction to the land if he so desires, yet he's a glutton ... that with the promise of tasty food every day becomes the main character companion.

It's not going to be a masterpiece that will change the anime industry, but its so wholesome it will probably make you smile more than once. It did with me and I'm only three episodes in.

Honestly, this show is just a vibe. Dude gets isekai’d with several others, the others get some incredible magic and fighting ability and he gets… Amazon Prime. Pretty distinct subversion from those I’ve seen and I love how they played with it, since he doesn’t want to show it off or use it in ways that would net him a ton of money… at least at first. No, dude just wants to live comfortably and cook some awesome food, and he has the perfect skill to do it if the wildlife doesn’t kill him first.

Enter: Fenrir, ultra-powerful legendary wolf who loves him some good food ... and won’t settle for less than a continuous source of delicious meals. Later, enter: Sui, just about the cutest slime you’ve ever seen who becomes super overpowered as the series goes on. They hunt insane monsters and use magic in interesting and innovative ways. Then they get those monsters butchered by people who can’t believe what they’re seeing and cook them into some of the tastiest looking meals I’ve seen in anime.

Like I said, it’s a vibe. The MC is almost never in any real danger, the story largely is a rinse and repeat of the same formula with minor tweaks for each episode, and dude ends the series filthy stinking rich. No harems, no absurdly powerful MC, but nothing particularly outstanding beyond the aforementioned food animations. You’ll even get a set of good recipes to use in real life cooking.

This show is so sweet. Easy accomplishments, lack of conflict and endless abundance tranquilized me.

I usually get bored to death with dumb isekai settings, but they managed to minimize uninteresting details and expositions. You just tag along and have fun with the mc without any worries and hero bs.

Characters are very likable, though I can't understand how a slime is more popular than a glorious Fenrir.
The slime needs to shut up more often.

I like that annoying shrieking females of the isekai with the usual freaky boobs not having important part in the show and being far far away.

Just watch and chill, mappa ... did it.

Isekai + cooking + fighting monsters = actually a pretty fun time

MAPPA is more well-known for making action-heavy anime, and this is the first time that they did an isekai. Honestly I found the first couple of episodes kinda boring and aimless. I wasn’t sure where the anime was going, so each week I wasn’t looking forward to this one.

However, I started watching it during my meals, and whoa this anime just became more fun and adventurous. It really didn’t matter where the anime was going because it’s supposed to be a chill journey with a lot of amazing cooking. Damn the animation of the ... food was satisfying. It’s not Food Wars level, but I kinda prefer Campfire Cooking’s way because the food here were more relatable and down-to-earth. I have eaten a lot of these food before, and the anime made them looked so good.

Overall, it’s a fun and mindless anime with nice cuisines. 7-7.5/10

It is a fun and loving anime. The characters like Fel,Sui and Mukohda were very funny and loving characters. The show had never bored me while watching it. The plot and the cooking were very amazing. It is a great anime and I highly recommend it to the ones who are searching for an anime which can be enjoyable and less episode.
If we talk about the story then it was unexpected. The cookings done by the main character were looking very tasty and made me hungry to eat the food. The end of the season made the anime's second season more interesting and to put ... it on my "Plan to watch" list

- Nothing special from the story itself I expected a sort of system and more development with the cooking skill, there 0 history or development with the main idea and after around 8 ep its the same characters just surprised with the MC's absurdity.

- Good animation, the food particularly along with the prep is exquisite, if only more thought was put into the background and cities it would be more pleasing.

Voice acting: 7.25
- Its aight, the 3 Mains do their job nothing more nothing less.

- Maybe cuz it's mappa, I may have expected more at least in the story-telling department, one of the most basic isekai i've ever watched. Sure the food was great, and some scenes made me chuckle but the idea had more potential. Well and truly 8 ep were enough instead of the repeated themes across 12 ep.

Basic fun but ultimately it goes nowhere. The show is too focused on being overly gratuitous with the cooking and eating that it wastes its potential at every turn. What little we see of the world is interesting and well done, but time and time again any of that is cut short so that more food can be cooked and ate. Episode after episode it repeats the same notes and boils down the same cooking show. I wanted more of everything outside of the food. The food works great as a plot device, but is instead treated as the unwavering center-point. It could be such ... a great jumping off point to explore the world and characters or build bonds through food, like a travel/exploration show, it could use the food cooking in so many interesting ways, but it refuses to elevate itself past anything more than low-brow food porn. They have all the pieces here but limited themselves and never grew past the same simple beats which are established in the first few episodes. I was gorged for food but left hungry for more advancement of the story, world, and characters.

I am very mixed on this because I started out really enjoying the show but I feel it spun its wheels a lot and I was disappointed in it not doing a lot more. It seems like it has all the potential and capability to do more, but the show continually chooses not to. I get that deconstructing an isekai like this means changing things, but I feel they went too far or made choices for the wrong reasons at times and unnecessarily held the show back. They pushed the slice of life angle way too hard even when it actively took away from the show. At times it genuinely felt like they were genuinely teasing the audience about how little they could have the characters do other than eat food.

I think they needed to find other ways for the MC to use food other than to satisfy his and his party's gluttonous hunger. Those moments happened and teased the potential of so many interesting ideas, but they were infrequent, sold short, and rarely expanded upon. Those were like many other parts of the show where you saw interesting flashes and peeks of where the story could go - but instead the MC and his party go back to just doing what they did the day before and will do again the next day. It seems like the story and everything else moves less than half as fast as it should because of the repetitive gratuitousness of the food porn holding things back to a painful degree which takes away from the general enjoyability of the show.

I like the show and I didn't like it, I liked the MC in some ways and thought he was flat and stupid in others. It will really depend how much you can turn your brain off or accept the flatness of certain situations as to whether you will be able to enjoy the simple fun and exploration there is, or if the shortcomings and repetitiveness will drive you wild.

I am someone who rarely watches comedy type of animes, or animes that try to win their audience by trying to make jokes or by looking funny in some way, also i barely write any anime reviews. However i was extremely well suprised by how much i enjoyed this anime and it made me appreciate more such animes that try to be more chill. This anime is absolutely chill and adorable, if you are someone thats looking to just relax after long and tiring day with something that doesnt demand your full attention of details of storyline and overall following the plotline, this anime ... is for you, it will help you relax and fall asleep, it might sound like im joking but i am not, i honestly watched one episode every night before going to bed and as i was always very tired i was watching it without paying that much attention and i ended up wanting to see more and more, its just an anime that doesnt take itself very seriously, its funny adventure that you dont even need to follow that much but just enjoy the ride.

The art is literally 10/10, the fenrir is so cool and fluffy, same goes for the slime, overall both are so fucking cute.
Story 6/10, its literally nothing special, for me its the main character going to random places for literally to just keep eating different type of foods and to satisfy his pets, i would be glad if the story evolves and goes a little bit harder and little dramatic as it has potential for something greater but i have my doubts about that, its probably going to continue its own pointless adventure but also being extremely chill and relaxing

For me what made this anime great mostly is the vibe and the atmosphere it brings with itself.

I recommend this anime, i rated it at first 7 but then as i finished the last episode i wanted to be more generous with my rating because i actually did enjoy it and relaxed while watching it, and sometimes all we need is to relax after long day, its truly an anime that doesnt take itself seriously, yet it has potential to get serious and also it even made me laugh several times which is hard. Looking forward for season 2 and the way this story will progress, maybe the story will get way better who knows.

I personally really enjoy this anime. Among the slog of samey and boring isekai, it really breaks the mold, in the sense that the sole purpose of the anime is the chill and carefree vibe it has, aka. there is no plot or tension. After reading the reviews here, many people dislike this aspect. For me however, it perfectly matches my expectations and wants for the show.

Another positive aspect is that the characters are actually smart, and act like real people. The MC is very reasonable, even if a bit too cowardly. The characters make or break the show, and fortunately here, they easily make ... the show better.

Overall, a more objective rating for the anime would be 7.5 / 10. Considering my personal enjoyment as well, the final score is 9 / 10. If you seek drama and heavily plot driven anime, then this is not for you.

“Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill” is what happens when someone wants to play a survival game but with cheats enabled.

Four people are summoned to a fantasy-like world to become heroes that will save the world from evil. Yeah… shocking I know. Among them there is one, who’s not like the others. Someone with terrible stats and a cryptic unique skill called “Online Shopping”. Unfortunately for him, no one traits him seriously so he gets some money and decides to travel the world. During his journey he is forced to… “befriend”, yes, let's go with that word, a legendary magical beast (OP ... AF) and a small slime (also OP AF).

It’s a fantasy comedy with a lot of slice of life vibe to it that relies mostly on its cast to carry the show.

Tsuyoshi Mukouda - Our isekai'd hero. A 27 year old, bland, boring, deprived of anything that could pretend to be charisma, white collar worker. In the personality department there is nothing that You could call interesting. He’s a passive hero with no clear goal in mind and just goes with the flow. His unique skill “Online Shopping” allows him to buy items from his world and get them teleported via Amazon Prime to him. Yes, one of the most OP skills in all of isekai was belittled by everyone in the beginning and no one even wanted to check what it does. First red flag of the show - the ruling caste is full of morons. Most of the time he uses this skill to acquire ingredients for cooking. A bit devoid of imagination but I guess this is a cooking show at its core so I’ll let it slide. He is a proficient cook but relies too much on condiments from his own world to let me call him a chef. He’s just a dude who knows the basics and can use that knowledge in a different world. Not exactly a bad idea. He’s also one of the few isekai heroes who actually has the right idea about what to do when the place You got summoned treats You like shit - scram. Despite everything Mukouda isn’t an idiot and thinks most of his decisions through. That is unless Fel forces his will on him…

Fel - The legendary Fenrir a feared, powerful beast that is aware of his might. The only thing greater than its strength is probably his appetite. He forced Mukouda to form a pact with him. Why would a legendary, well-nigh unstoppable beast for a pact with a weak, cowardly human? For Food. I’m not kidding, that’s his motivation. He want’s to eat good food all the time. I love that twist. No chosen one bs, no saving the world crap, just pure, unmitigated gluttony. The resident tsundere of the show. He’s pushy, arrogant, kind of an asshole in some cases and can’t verbalize his feelings towards his companions. He cares for Mukouda and Sui but that doesn’t stop him from forcing his will on them, especially when it comes to “training” the former in the art of magic. Best character in the show by far!

Sui - A slime that Mukouda and Fel encountered by chance. Mukouda makes a pact with him without even knowing it, but soon treats the little fellow like a mascot. Sui has a very childish personality, loves food and fighting. If I had to put a role to him it would probably be “Baby Yoda of the show” but more useful and with a lot more character. He loves both Mukouda and Fel and isn’t shy about the fact. Second best character of the show.

The main plot is very reactive. Apart from getting away from the kingdom that summoned him Mukouda doesn’t have a goal and mainly just chills in the wilds and cooks for his coterie. Very slice of life like. The action and conflict comes mainly from Fel. Either it’s his desire to hunt strong, unique beasts so that Mukouda can cook them or his “mentoring” (I use this term extremely loosely) his master to gain combat experience to master magic, he’s responsible for most of the action scenes and creates problems when Mukouda interacts with people in the cities.

The problem with this is that it destroys the pacing. He gets some combat that actually has a goal (training) followed by a long period of calm comedy. Another problem with pacing is that at some point the show slows to a crawl and repeats its formula of hunt-eat-sell-repeat without any kind of twist. Fortunately that doesn’t last long but enough to notice.

All in all it’s not a bad show. My mistake was getting hyped after the first 2 episodes. It has an amazing premise, cool characters, bland but acceptable world and the plot is actually funny at times. Watching Mukouda interact with Fel is fun and entertaining and the addition of Sui only helps with that. As long as You don’t mind the problems with pacing You can actually have a lot of fun watching it.

Isekai anime doesn't always mean an overpowered character with some cool girls with actions. This is one of the best unique Isekai anime where you can have an overpowered but easy-going character. But you wont bore because of this anime material, like cooking recipes, overpowered pets, fanny Mc, etc.

Story (8/10): full of uniqueness, the story and surroundings also, and its mainly circling towards the protagonist. but it would be better if some other element like super villain shows up in other seasons.
Character (7/10): well designed but lack of good background.

Enjoyment : one of my best watched anime ever, its a good wholsome anime.
