Just earlier this morning upon writing this review, I had the privilege of watching this movie in theaters in Japan. For the longest time, virtually everyone who has watched the original Berserk anime series have endlessly demanded more. And now that day has come upon us though not really in the most idealistic of terms. Many of us wanted a continuation of where the series leaves off, but for now, we have to settle a re-telling of the Golden Age arc which will eventually pave way for the rest of the manga to be adapted.

As for what it is covered, if you're already familiar ...

I first saw the original Berserk TV series about 2 years ago and thought it was pretty good. By 'pretty good' I mean I consider it to be the greatest story ever told, better than The Odyssey, Hamlet, Citizen Kane and Big Oiled Butts 3 combined. 15 years later they've brought out a Berserk movie. A trilogy no less, the first of which was just released in good old illegal format for all of us dirty foreign pirate scum to watch. Early impressions: They've changed a few things. Very few things.

The movie covered about 10 episodes of the original, from when Guts first meets Griffith ...

Berserk Golden Age: Egg of the high King is hard to see as a stand alone with the original series preceding it serving as a standard of comparison. Yet to properly appreciate the attempt made one has to look at it from a stand alone perspective.

The story is basically of a vagabond by the name of Guts, who is extremely skilled with the sword or rather has enough brute strength and skill to defeat ranked opponents. This is when he meets Griffith - a man of grace and charm (that may as well be mistaken for a woman) but skills that surpass Guts'. Guts is ...

A land of war.

For a hundred years Midland and Chuder have fought one another. Guts is a wandering mercenary, taking advantage of the war to make his living. In his wanderings he catches the eye of Griffith, the young leader of an up-and-coming band of mercenaries. The meeting isn't a happy one. Guts kill some of Griffith's men and Griffith stabs Guts in the chest. But Griffith is taken with Guts' skills, and duels with him to force him into his mercenary corps, the fabled Band of the Hawk. Years pass. Despite his hot temper and frequent clashes with Griffith's lady lieutenant Casca, Guts ...

Ever since I came across the manga, Berserk has always been one of my top favorite series of all time. I finished the manga in a few hours because I couldn't stop reading, it was like I was possesed. The story is incredible, and the art kept getting better and better so of course after I finished the manga I wanted to check out the anime, and boy I wasn't disappointed albeit I was unhappy that it ended so short. It covered the most popular and best rated arc of the series, the "Band of the Hawks Arc". When I heard about the movies, I ...

Few stories can capture your mind and soul in a visceral way from the beginning, and never leave you. Berserk is one of them.

Written and illustrated by the legendary manga artist Kentaro Miura, Berserk (ベルセルク) is an epic fantasy saga that knows no time, no boundaries, and no has end. It tells the story of a Guts (ガッツ, Gattsu), a boy born from the corpse of a woman hung on a battlefield, who struggles to fight his unfortunate destiny. Set in a fictional version of medieval Europe, Gatsu is a young mercenary who travels with no direction nor purpose, swinging his huge sword in merciless ...

A solid remake of the berserk tv show from the 90s and the manga. Some excellent art work and classic berserker Gore for good measure. Berserk tv show was probably one of the best animes of all time so this is not an easy follow up by anymeans. Berserk ova throws in a little homoerroticism between griffith and it's lead character. the OVA is self aware of it's art style which is a nice touch. Too often we have these pretty boys who are all powerful in anime series. An addicting show to a fault. The first episode leaves you wanting more but does not ...

When a new anime movie comes out for an already great anime series a lot of questions can pop to mind. Those questions varying from how the animation, story, and so on differ from the TV series itself and if it raises the bar. Whether Berserk Ougon Jidaihen does or not? That's a bit controversial.

Berserk Ougon Kidaihen I is a retelling of the Berserk anime series up to a certain point. The difference being animation, pacing and some of the twists they take on certain scenes. I'll be focusing on every part as a whole as well as the art which I think to ...

Ok I decided to finally get into berserk to see what all the hype was about but I have a fried monkey brain with broken attention span frmo social media and youtube and tik tok and such so I fr cant focus and I didnt want to watch some old ass 240 p 24 episode anime so I decided to go with the movie route and I think it was a good choice. This first movie was a good introduction to where Guts started and how he met up with the band of the hawks and it introduced Guts and Griffith and Cascas character pretty ...

One of my most beloved fictional works is Berserk due to its profound emphasis on character development despite the abundance of sword fighting and battles. Regrettably, the film does not allocate sufficient time to nurture the characters, and many crucial scenes are either abbreviated or omitted, detracting from the overall experience. Nonetheless, it still provides a pretty decent adaptation.

The movie's computer-generated aesthetic is pretty good, particularly with respect to lighting and cinematography. The action sequences are well-animated, making them more intense than the original series. Despite the characters' insufficient focus, they are still well-presented. Guts's backstory is presented subtly, contributing to the mystery surrounding his ...

[Contains mild spoilers]

When watching this film, especially considering the two sequels have already been out for a number of years, it's best to view it as one third of a whole, rather than separate to two movies.

While it may be true that individually, the first is the weakest of the three films, it does have the hardest task of setting up the premise, introducing us to the main characters and world-building. It's for this reason - the fact that this first film is basically an introduction into the world of Berserk's Golden Age - that it suffers the most. However, when seen as the ...

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King Review

Story (8/10) Very Good

So the first Berserk Movie adapts episode's 2-10 of the 90s anime of the Golden Age Arc of the series. I think from a story standpoint it did a good job now obviously things were removed to reach the 1 hour and 16 minutes they clocked in by the time the movie was done. Like the Gambino flash back was quickly rushed over for example if you haven't read the manga or watched the 90s anime then that scar on Gut's nose you might not know that it came from ...

Berserk is an undeniable classic of both the manga and anime medium - but, you will soon see, I have seen neither the acclaimed long running manga, nor the 24 episode anime series. At the time of writing, here in Australia, the third film "The Golden Age Arc III: Advent" is about to be released, so to hype myself up, I'll write reviews of the first two films.

I'll begin with the elaphant in the room - the CGI which had recieved a very mixed to negative response from both audiences and critics. Having recently watched anime like Knights of Sidonia, the CGI in this, that ...

Watching Berserk reminded me about some of the reasons why I love anime. This series is intellectual, dark, action packed, and emotionally powerful. It's also loosely based on Shakespeare's Macbeth. I love it when animes are based on a foundation of excellent literature, so I had to watch.

Griffith, leader of the band of the Hawks, is a noble soul, and the illustration of his character is handled excellently, where you really sense his inherent nobility, even in his posture. On top of this, his dialogue inspires some levels of fascination. He speaks with the sound of a true heart pursuing a noble dream.

Guts, ...

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I: The Egg of the King
Director: Toshiyuki Kubooka
Original Creator: Kentarou Miura

Many die-hard Berserk fans have been waiting forever for another Anime adaptation of the greatest Manga of all time - Kentarou Miura's Berserk ever since the original 1997 Anime adaptation ended on a huge cliffhanger. Many people wanted a second season that would continue where the '97 one left off. However, instead we got a retelling of arguably the greatest arc in Manga of all time - the Golden Age arc of Berserk. Many people hated this film comparing it to ...

it is quite interesting how they are expressing the series in miniseries—i.e.: movie length parts—the intricate layering of seemingly irrelevant developments seems to be mostly lost, with only the most obvious plot points remaining.

The animation is quite strange, not sure what to think of this novel 2012 standard; I think only Appleseed has been able to pull off the whole 3D thing, but Berserk is going for some sort of 3D background+CGI and 2D with shadow foreground.

Overall though I'm just happy to be able to rewatch the story unfold, Berserk being in my top 2 favourite anime series of all time :P

I am especially interested ...

Ok, i watched the movie just now and will make a quick summary but not going into detail on the story but just from a technical point of view...
I have watched the original anime not to long ago, thus it helps comparing both...

They both start the story by introducing guts during a castle siege where he takes on the resident "monster".
The animation during this part was brilliant giving a lot of realism to the siege and the battles being fought, this remains thorough the movie, characters animation also look fantastic and fluid.....

The art, is the main issue with this faithful remake, Griffith only lacks sparkles ...

The story was okay but it was a bit rushed (although it is understandable because they are trying to fit in so much content) and it misses a lot of the friendship between Guts and The Band Of The Hawk that really made me care about the characters in the manga. The art was surprisingly good and the sound was alright. I think my enjoyment came from reliving the start of Berserk in an animated format instead of just reading it. So to wrap things up I do not think that Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen I - Haou no Tamago is as good as the ...

I only have one real nitpicky thing to say about these movies, other than that the story has been slashed down even further than the original anime (I suggest reading the manga, SO many details are left out of both anime).

The animation.

The main characters look AMAZING. I cannot tell you how excited I was to see how far anime has come from the original Berserk.
HOWEVER, when the focus shifts to group shots on the battle field, the quality goes completely out the window. The "stock" armies look like PS2 video game graphics. I understand that no one would want to draw all of those soldiers ...
