Same plot wherein players got stuck inside the game. However, this focus more on the world and rules of the game. If you like this kind of genre but with less romance, then this is a must watch! 

Main similarity is that both anime features living within the game and in real life. There is the idea of being a member of a community and adventure and exploring the world that the protagonists live in. Both anime are special in their own way such as the contrasting protagonists. Both have good art quality as well and if you like action and fantasy anime, these two are definitely recommendable.  

Game mechanics are important as the setting of the animes. They place importance on life or death in HP, and remain as a character's lifeline throughout the whole anime as a game mechanic. The game's nature is fantasy. Swords and magic skills are decided. 

Both involve players who log into a game, but cannot logout. They have the same situation where the players have to either form alliances or be lone wolves. The main character in one anime is more of a lone wolf, while the other anime features three main characters who form their own alliance. 

Log Horizon and Sword Art Online have similar base concept (stuck in a MMORPG)s, which differ just by a little spice - one is Virtual Reality MMORPG, the other is just a basic MMORPG. The main difference between them is that while Log Horizon is more serious, action-filled and mature (it goes pretty deep at parts), Sword Art Online is lightweight, more romance than action-focused, and suitable for younger audiences. If you felt like Sword Art Online had little action and/or was too lightweight, but loved the concept, try Log Horizon If you felt like Log Horizon was somewhat difficult to follow, and/or are asking for more romance, but want to keep the concept, try Sword Art Online. And in the end, if you just care about the overmentioned concept of being stuck in a MMORPG, try them both at once.  

Although Log Horizon doesn't have romantic moments like SAO but it's the almost the same concept as in millions of people being stuck in an MMORPG. Players in Log Horizon wouldn't be able to die but they have nothing to do, so chaos roams around. 

Players are trapped in an MMORPG and must find the cause. In SAO 10,000 players are trapped by the GM while Log Horizon=30,000 players. Sword Art Online is an Virtual MMORPG while Log Horizon just an MMORPG. SAO: the players reacted to their situation while in LG, they are calm and orderly. Both series use the same game mechanics such as guilds, party, raids etc. Log Horizon has magic users-mages/healers while SAO doesn't.....yet. Log Horizon main hero is a strategist mage who keeps his friends safe and depends on each other. Kirito is a solo player who doesn't join guilds yet he does party up. Shiore also doesn't trust guilds yet. But they party up with a small group. Log Horizon does the same too. Log Horizon doesn't have 100 floors like SAO. when a player dies in SAO, they die in real life. While in LG, there is no permanent death. They can re-spawn.   

Both anime are VRMMO genre.. Log Horizon is just a good anime with the same genre of SAO... SAO is somewhat horrible.. Well if you love childish romance You'll like SAO...But if you're into more action less romance... Log Horizon is the best. 

A game world so real that you almost can not tell it from reality. But what would happen if such a world were to become you reality? In both of these series the main characters get stuck in the game they were playing and have to fight monsters and other creatures in order to survive. If you liked one these then you will like the other one for sure.

Both of them take place inside a video game. However, Log Horizon is more video-game like. Rather than the characters being trapped inside of virtual reality, they are trapped inside of a world that is like a game. The show deals a lot with both fighting and strategy.

Sword Art Online and Log Horizon are both set in a game-prison atmosphere. Both have hilarious moments and touching moments as well. Sword Art Online is produced with fantastic effects while Log Horizon is just as great with a little more comedy.

These 2 anime are about the main character got 'sucked' into the game world. While in Sword Art Online the game is a virtual reality, Log Horizon is a normal computer RPG game. SAO focuses more on the combat for action as the main character Kirito is a solo player and a swordsman. It also has quite a fair amount of romance and drama. In SAO, the purpose is revealed since the beginning -- to clear all 100 floors for the players to be able to log out from the game. Meanwhile, Log Horizon focuses on other aspects like guilds, strategizing and the politics because the main character Shiroe is a strategist enchanter and the founder of guild Log Horizon. It is more on adventure filled with humor as the characters travel to different places. It is not clear how to 'quit' the game, as you cannot die in the game / can just revive, and there is no clear purpose unlike in SAO. So the players have to manage and fend of for themselves, all messed up before Shiroe steps up. Anyway, both of them are enjoyable and fun to watch. If you like one of them, I'm sure you will like the other ^^  

Even though both series share the same setting not one of them fails to keep the viewer in suspense with their different approach. Sword Art Online focuses on the characters and fights, while Log Horizon's main focus is the world they live in. Despite these differences they still get the viewer to think "I wish we had a virtual reality MMO." Which I think both shows did a good job on invoking. 

In both of them the characters find themselves stuck in a game and to get out of it they have to defeat it, in both there are similar concepts and words like "party", "PK's", etc... And in my personal opinion both are awesome. 

These series share the same base concept, being trapped in a MMORPG. In both they use game mechanics, for battle, making food, HP/lifebar etc. Other then that they do differ quite a lot. In SAO the players mind is simply trapped in the game not being able to log out. But in Log Horizon the players seems to be in the world they used to play on they're computers for unknown reason. But if you want more of the genre check out the other. 

The biggest similarities between the two are that they are both based within a videogame. That's about it. The differences are that Log Horizon leans more on dialogue-heavy topics (in the latter half of the show), while Sword Art Online leans more towards action sequences and poorly executed romance. In fact, Sword Art Online has everything that Log Horizon doesn't have: Good music, terrible characters, pretty art style.  

MMORPG goes wrong, traps all the players inside the game and let them find everything on their own. Log Horizon is far more easygoing and more about living in the game, SAO is darker and definitely less stable plotwise. Oh, and both main characters are looked upon as kind of villains, too, despite not really being one. 

In both anime, people get trapped in a virtual reality RPG and have to play the rules of the game to survive. Also the main character of both series is pretty sharp when it matters. 

Both consist of people stuck in an online gaming world and a reason they need to get out of it. However, the characters react differently in each of the series, in which the characters in Log Horizon react with less concern.

Well the plot are the same where the characters are stuck in a game/ apocalypse the only difference is the characters.. Overall both are good Anime.. 

If you like SAO, i would fully recommend Log Horizon. They both take place in the virtual world, but the story line is different. They may seem similar at first, but a lot of people would agree with me they like Log Horizon more. The main difference between the two that people would recognize is that the difference lies within the concept of the game. Instead of a fight for survival, it is a game that makes you have to complete the story. SAO has different players that work to help others, but Log Horizon has clans and su- classes that promotes the game. The sub-classes help with choosing the people they want for their part/guild. As for me I would personally rank this above SAO because of numerous reasons.   

Both animes is about being trapped in a VR enviorment(Virtual Reality), in my opinion I think this anime will be very much like SAO. It has the same style and I think that Log Horizon is a bit of a copy of SAO so I think that the both of them will be a lot like each other, some things will be different of course and one of those is that Log Horizon will have magic in it where as SAO didn't have. They look similar and I think that they will feel similar when watching it. If you liked SAO I think you'll like this as well. And vice versa. Though because this has not aired yet it is hard to write a recomendation. But I do think that you will enjoy both animes.

If you enjoyed Log Horizon, then look no further, you found another good series to pull your interest in. In this anime, you get another group of characters trapped in an MMORPG. No logging out until they figured out what to do. They fight monsters, get items, level up, different guilds too. Overall, this anime has some good dynamic characters that you will love to see grow.

Both animes are epic if you like the VR-like game. I recommend both to watch, I have rated both 10/10 already. I rewatched SAO 3 times already and read the Light Novels. Though both animes are similar in various things they also have things which aren't in common, Sword Art Online's main character is OP because of his previous experiences with VR-games and his beta-participation of SAO. While Log Horizon's main character is a normal gamer, not op. 

Main similarity of these two anime are that players are trapped in game in MMORPG. In both anime protagonists tries to accept the virtual game and tries to live in it. Both are high quality action and fantasy anime with amazing art/animation.

Log Horizon and SAO almost have the same story but log Horizon is more about the game and goes deeper whith the skills and stuff and SAO turns out to be a big drama  

Both of the animes takes place in a game and they're very similar in that way but still they're very different and it won't feel like you're watching the same anime all over again. 

Both are about large group of people getting trapped inside a game. Both MC are trying to change the world inside the game while one is trying to escape and the other one to rebuild the world.

Both are set within a world were the gamers are trapped within the games world as well as both protraying there life and how they live it within the world. But the difference is that SAO focuses more on how the players are going to escape from the world as well as the romances formed and the impact of player deaths affacting there real bodies, which made me feel a sense of attachment towards cetain characters in which when they died made me cry and break down in tears quite a few times. (no spoliers intended, sorry this is my first try writing one of these :( ). Where as log horizon focuses more on the how there lifestyle is within the world as well as the politics that take place as which left we waiting to see what challenges the character would be facing. :)

In SAO and LOG, main characters are stuck in a vrmmorpg and try to find their way out. I think LOG is better because they are more focused on game than SAO, SAO went for romance after 3 episodes. But both of this anime are good and similar, i love both of them.

I'm sure this has been done lots of times, but yeah, both anime are about people getting trapped in a video game they were playing. Instead of talking about that, I'll try to highlight some of the key differences. In SAO, there is no doubt that the characters are indeed in a video game, there is a scientific explanation as to how they are trapped there, and there is a definite way to escape. In Log Horizon, on the other hand, it seems as if the characters were just magically transported into the game. No explanation, no way out, nothing. This is ironic, because Log Horizon has more gaming elements than SAO. The Log Horizon fight scenes are done in the same way one might fight in an actual MMORPG. SAO's fight scenes are more based on action and badassery. I'm not saying either one is better or worse than the other, they're just different. Log Horizon is probably a little more light-hearted than SAO, but that's not to say Log Horizon doesn't have its serious moments, nor to say that SAO doesn't have its light-hearted moments. I personally like the romance in SAO better than Log Horizon, but that's just my opinion. I highly recommend both as great anime for both gamers and anime fans alike.

Log hrizon is also about people locked inside a game, but without a objective, they have to creat a society. 

Each anime focuses on the disturbing premise of being trapped in a video game. Thus begins the journey of the players to seek out ways to return back to the reality. (leaving/finishing the game so to speak) Both anime attempt to explore reality, questioning what is real? Should the values of what existed in reality hold any meaning in this virtual reality? Is it only a game? Does killing a player matter since it's only a game? Both build a society to impose judgement for such values. These societies can be in the form of guilds and explores the interactions between them. If you like one, you may like the other, although there are a few differences to consider. Log Horizon centralizes around one guild that rises to power, it also builds upon the relationships of the guilds and gamers. Sword Art Online is centralized around predominately the male MC and his relationship with the female MC, thus the world building and themes are a little more restrictive on a grander scale. Another glaring difference is the pacing, Sword Art Online has many inconvenient time skips and Log Horizon can be very slow to move the plot and its story at a reasonable pace. Both exhibit overuse of "Kawaii" moments that may take away from the experience for the story-driven audience, something to be prepared for, as both can take themselves to seriously and yet too carefree in the next scene/episode.

Very Similar to Log Horizon. Both are MMO games. I think SAO is much more balanced in terms of characters, action and romance. But Log Horizon is also a very good anime, from the looks of things, it would get better and better as the series progresses.  

Same general story line, there a bunch of people trapped in some game, and starts to become much more than just a game. It starts to become there life. In both story's they realize that death, even if its a game has some serious consequences. Art style is basically the same and looks really good. 

Fighting! Survival! and lastly Digital world? These are things that makes these animes so interesting, the cybergenre of the anime twists the plot to something that we can somewhat relate to in our ordinary irl lives. In the anime we follow the main characters struggle to reach the top and to watch their personalities and background slowly uncover during the contionus episiodes that we all can't get enough of... 

Like SAO, Log Horizon is about players who are captured in a video game world called Elder Tales.  

- Both trapped in the VR game they're in. - Both have quite a lot of romance. - Both explore ways to get out of the game. - Both main characters are extremely OP (In different ways). - Both have very strong female protagonists that contribute greatly to their plots. - Both are socially awkward/loners (at least they start off that way). 

Similar in the dynamic that the characters are stuck in an online game, but the key difference is the nature of deaths in the game. Both Character must deal with their cool and calculating personalities and struggle to make this new world their homes. Both of these shows were not put down till all the episodes ran out. They are both very enjoyable in their own unique ways.  

The setting and premise for both shows are very similar however whilst the main point of SAO is escaping the game in Log Horizon they try adapting to the game instead as they try to build a community amongst those trapped inside. Log Horizon focuses more on tactical fighting rather than pure action and i personally feel it was better written and included characters the audience could both engage with and like better than the characters in SAO. 

Similarities: - Both shows are about people trapped in a game which has become a new reality to them. - The MCs are veteran gamers. - Both Shiroe and Kirito initially refuse to join a guild, but end up becoming part of one. - In both shows, there are multiple female characters who have romantic feelings towards the MC. - Both MCs have a bad reputation, although they aren't actually evil or bad people. - There are guilds that are consisted of PK(Player Kill)ers. Differences: - Shiroe is a tactician who stands at the back and assists his allies with his enchanter skills, while Kirito is a swordsman who fights in frontline. - There are political and economical aspects in Log Horizon. In the other hand, SAO features romance. - Shiroe forms a new guild to make a home for his friends, but Kirito was forced to join one after losing a duel. - Shiroe has more friends and allies compared to Kirito. - The characters of SAO worry about their bodies in the real world, but there is no mention about that in Log Horizon. - Characters of Log Horizon are to revived upon death, but death in the game equals death in reality in SAO.

People who like Sword Art Online will love Log Horizon and vice versa! They are very similar in concept, but have noticeable differences. One concentrates mainly on survival while the other is more about the people adapting to the virtual world and making it better. 

Both is about a journey trapped inside a game. They both contain battles with monsters, and to achieve goals.  

Both of these shows revolve around a group of people who are trapped inside of an online role playing game. If you're a fan of the genre or just a fan of MMO gaming, you will likely enjoy both of these series. Sword Art Online focuses more on dramatic elements as the players struggle to either accept or escape their predicament, while Log Horizon is more about people trying to learn how to live in their new reality. 

The story between these two shows is very similar to each other. In both shows they get stuck in a virtual game the same story right? No, In Log horizon it's not a battle of surviving they revive and don't die in real world. Second in Log Horizon their goal isn't getting out of the game it's to investigate the new world they're living in unlike like SAO which seems to me weak in terms of story. Also there is less Harem here sure it contains some harem but not like SAO. finally they're in a RPG game right? so where is the rpg part in the whole fighting scenes in the show? In Log Horizon you will see a lot of tactics, strategies and team work unlike super sugoi undefeated ultimate immortal Kirito in SAO. to be fair one of the few things that SAO did better than Log Horizon is fight scenes it's not that much exciting in Log horizon and the other one is romance. If you're looking for romance you will be satisfied here.(by romance I mean Kirito's relationship with Asuna not the other girls that loves him one direction only). Bottom line if you like the concept behind SAO watch Log horizon it does everything SAO did wrong ten times better.

Log Horizon clearly incorporates more aspects of the MMO game genre, as opposed to Sword Art Online. Both anime are vastly different from each other, but have the same premise.

Log Horizon is infamous for 'ripping off' from SAO's storyline, although they are very different in essence. Thus, the main similarity between both series, is that they share the idea that people are trapped in a video game. Although Sword Art Online focuses more on the act of playing in an MMORPG, Log Horizon focuses more on the politics in this games' world.

Its the same concept of being trapped in a game but with two different outcomes. Log Horizon is based on politics / how to entertain oneself, sword art is survival. Log Horizon is slower because it has more thinking and detailed parts to it while sword art is very action based and fast paced. Both are quite enjoyable. Also I have been told that .hack is the precedent for series like these and Accel World is like if the main character in Sword art grew up and the future story. Oh look 3 recommendations in one.

Both anime are about a game in an online server. Though the storylines are totally different, a few aspects are quite similar, like: there is no way out. In sword art online there seems to be no logout button. In log horizon they don't even know how they got in their world, let alone mentioning how to get out of it. Through the episodes they get to know their world better, along with new potential ways out. Both main characters are solo-players at the beginning of the story, but eventually they learn that the only way to survive here is to join, or make a guild. Kirito and Shiro are both powerful but mysterious players due to lots of experience before their situation broke loose. This gives them an advantage compared to other players, yet they also struggle with a lack of information or new additions.  

Both are real life people stuck in a MMO RPG. 

Sword Art Online(SAO) and Log Horizon both take place in a game setting and that's pretty much where the similarities end. SAO focuses on the action side of MMORPG's while Log Horizon focuses on the economy and political aspects of being stuck in a virtual world. I prefer Log Horizon due to the way it approaches the situation. The characters try to adapt to the game and are not constantly thinking of ways to get out. So if you like SAO you are guaranteed to enjoy Log Horizon.

Log horizon represents RPG games in general far better than Sword Art Online. My friend and i both agree that Akatsuki is superior and shiro is definitely better than Kirito.....by far. Akatsuki stays badass...Asuna loses it part way through, shame. it's full of interesting characters and a slow but complex story..... WATCH IT NOW! (yay Akatsuki!!)

Very similar concept. Players of a game are suddenly taken to the new world and now must find their way back. The series stand as a nice contrast to each other. SAO is more action-oriented while Log Horizon is more plot-oriented. 

Both shows take place when the main characters and their friends are forced to live inside a video game and adjust to lives within a new and unknown world. While in Sword Art Online they leave the game quickly, Log Horizon goes into depth about struggling to survive and people's lives inside the game. Log Horizon, much like Sword Art Online is action-packed with lots of fights, but it goes into more depth about how it is like an mmorpg. Both anime have extremely entertaining characters and they both have interesting plots. They are both enjoyable in their own ways and they have their own differences for having such grand similarities.

The main difference between them is that SAO is more action-oriented while Log Horizon focuses more on explaning it's world, the mechanics of the game they are trapped in and so on, but if you liked one make sure to check the other. 

If you like the VRMMO genre, epic battle scenes, scenes with humour and smart thinking - you're going to enjoy Log Horizon a lot.

In this anime is the same setting as Sword Art online, their all trapped inside a game. the characters are different but its the same idea as sword art online. if you liked sword art online or no game no life i'm sure you will love this anime 

- These shows share almost identical plots. - They're both about a large group of MMO players getting trapped inside of the game. - Both shows go into the various social structures built by an MMOs player base and they discuss the different play styles that individuals adapt. - In both anime there´re MMORPG players who discover themselves trapped in a fantasy game and they can`t "log out". The only difference is that in Log Horizon you'll respawn when you die. If you liked either one of these animes you would like the other because they are both based on a video game. Although SAO has more Fanservice than Log Horizon, there is no denying that Log Horizon returns the lack of FS with a very deep and detailed plot!   

Like the idea of being able to drop into your favorite MMORPG, and be your character. I'd say these two are the top to drop in. 

If you're looking for Strong and Smart Male Lead that is stuck in a game and looking for a way out then this fits the criteria. Both anime is about Sword/Magic/Dungeons and Adventure, typically knows as RPG Both anime shares the same setting and feels the same way as they both are based on MMORPG style of game. Both anime have amazing quality as they're both made in a modern year SAO contains harem/romance while Log Horizon contains only a hint of it All in All Both are Great anime to watch especially for those who plays RPG Games or genre of any kinds

If you liked the MMO aspect of SAO you will love Log horizon, thought it does not have as much romance, and story wise, it's really not the same thing. LogH is way more strategic and everything is well explained.

In both these animes you follow people that was trapped inside an MMO. In my opinion Log Horizon is better than Sword Art Online, mostly because of the way they tell the story. But I love the idea behind both these animes. I have seen SAO three times and Log Horizon twice, I will probably watch Log Horizon at least one more time.

This anime is also about MMORPG players who get stuck in the virtual world, I like Log Horizon more though because it goes more indepth about the game and rules. As a MMO player myself I really enjoyed Log Horizon. PS: The OST are by the best OST's I've heard!

Both animes have the "same" argument, the characters are caught on a videogame and they need to know about where they are and why. In my personal opinion Log Horizon is better at the battles in-game and the character's history.

Exactly the same base scénario in a mmorpg world. 

Log Horizon may be as closest as you can get to Sword Art Online if ever you wanted more. Log Horizon's story take place when players of Elder Tales, an MMORPG game in which the anime is based on, are suddenly transported inside the game. Oblivious to the rules and events of the virtual world, they start to discover that some aspects of the game don't apply to themselves the same way when they are playing a character. And so, just like Sword Art Online, they venture out, seeking a way to leave the world they are trapped in. 

Continue to prove that most powerful weapons is breaking the story. Sometime it's the "game rules", sometimes is the "glasses". (SAO and Log Horizon respectively) Both have good Soundtrack/BGM and OP. But SAO BGM and OP is good enough that it's better without the anime. I listen to SAO OST before getting into anime and is it was epic. No opinion on OP. Log Horizon OP song is so good it doesn't need or possibly can't have a better OP song. BGM of SAO is better, but you will get sick after a few days or weeks after overdosing. Not the case with Log Horizon BGM *and OP* where overdosing ceiling is higher. I rated Log 10/10 because I just can't stop watching it. I can't explain why 10/10 but 9/10 is too low. Maybe 9.5 9.7? SAO is 2/10 is because I 90% of the time I forget the whole setting. So much for excepting it to be a "Video Game". Also the missing chapter 16.5, like why not lol it's already a mess. 2/10 out of respect for everyone behind the BGM and Yuki Kajiura for proving quality BGM for many other of my top anime|OST such as Fate series (Ufotable) Kara no Kyoukai and Madoka Magica.

Both anime's are set in a Fantasy MMORPG world, where the characters can't escape from. Though, Log Horizon takes a more political approach to the subject, both anime's deal with the psychological aspect of the change of world and the improsonment in it. 

Trapped in virtual worlds, these anime have MC's who are both skilfully adept at surviving in their strange yet familiar surroundings. Throughout both series you will see tons of cool battles, epic dungeons and boss fights, and witness the journey the characters go through to learn more about the new world they live in. 

Same concept, real people put into the a video game and they have to live out there lives under a new world. If you enjoyed the plot of sword art online but without the romance this is for you! There are still obvious love relationships within the story however they never progress beyond simple I have a crush on you type thing.  

Both anime mainly features getting trapped within a game and a protagonist who cant find a place for himself. Both protagonist have their own qualities which make them similar yet different from each other. Both story lines have a harem scenario but SAO dives more towards the romance genre if you like fantasy and action genre both are recommended. 

Log Horizon may start off quite weird but it gets better, trust me First I'll describe what they have in common They are both set in a virtual world, Both worlds have stats and a class system, the main characters both don't want to join a guild. And some of the people doesn't want to fight so they take on jobs merchant jobs. Also, there are large-scale raids to kill bosses Then what does Log Horizon hold? First of all, don't think it's like SAO, it has a completely different storyline and set up. In this anime, the main character made a guild instead of being forced to join one. In Log horizon the main character is more of a supporting and strategist role than and attacker. In this world you can't die, you can respawn as many times as you like but each time with a cost(I won't tell you because I don't want to spoil it). And also in this world, there isn't teleport gates so you have to travel around in your own way also the world is based on Earth, only half it's size. And the boss fights in this Anime is not to advance to the next level but to gather resources and gear to support your guild and your party. And the VRMMORPG game is made better than SAO, with new senses (like in food, the environment and basically everything)classes and races. Also, Log Horizon leans more on the comedy and strategy side than action, but there's still tons of action. Now I'm sorry if I had revealed too much information :P  

At first glance, Log Horizon is just another anime that can easily be perceived as a carbon copy of Sword Art Online. However, after I watched just a couple of episodes, it is actually distinct from SAO. Log Horizon has a very similar premise, but the characters are different, and the fights are all based on strategies. It is also slower paced and none of the characters are overpowered.

Log Horizon takes the SAO formula and really does a deep dive into how a video game world would be affected by players being trapped inside without the typical shounen arcs and poor writing 

This is very similar but log horizon is more into the mmorpg theme 

They are both set in a game enviroment and unable to log out. They also both have skills and different weapon types (and shipping). But Log Horizon has got different classes and species so there is a bit more diversity and they can respawn (but they try to avoid it). 

Both are based on MMORPG world's where the protagonist is trapped in the game world. Where SAO tilts more towards the action side of completing the game to return to their world, Log Horizon shows us how they adapt to their new world by bringing order in the new world. 

Same as Sword Art Online, the MC was trapped in a world that fantasy things can play in. Sword Art Online was focused on MC romance in fantasy world, but in Log Horizon it's really brand new world to live in and focusing more how to control the new world they live in

sword art online is my favourite anime and i recommend it to any one that likes action and adventure anime with a bit fantasy in it and also people that like MMOs this is why that if you like sword art online i recommend this because they are quiet similar in the concept.  

These two isekai animes are literally the same thing, so if you enjoyed SAO then I think you would really love Log Horizon and probably would really prefer it. Both animes follows your generic fantasy game having the virtual reality aspect. The characters in both of the animes find themselves trapped in the game with no way out. The difference is, SAO ends up explaining why this has all happened very early on making the plot a little plain and boring. However in Log Horizon doesn't do this creating some sort of mysterious plot as to why this has happened so the audience can be in the same clueless situation as the characters in the anime.   

Both are about the main character getting trapped in a video game along with other people from the real world, the only main differences are; in log horizon the MC has friends he had before they got trapped, unlike in SAO where Kirito had to make friends in the game. Log horizon is less dark, the main feature that makes it less dramatic and way less suspenseful than SAO is the fact that if a character from log horizon dies in the game they can just respawn and will only lose a couple assets. In my opinion the whole respawning thing makes log horizon super boring compared to SAO where characters were legit dying. Unlike in SAO where the user interface was barely shown in the show, in log horizon the are constantly bringing it up and it's more conspicuous compared to the one in SAO, the characters from log horizon rely on the interface too much and in my opinion it's less immerseful making the situation of being trapped in the game's world less serious. Watching log horizon will surely make you realize how good SAO actually is.

If you are a big fan of MMORPG games you will find the anime much more enjoyable and appreciate its storytelling.

Well, they are REALLY similar in my opinion, honestly the cover looked boring to me and I left "Log Horizon" in my list for a long time, although I decided to check it out, It's really cool and the main MC is quite smart and funny.  

It's pretty much the same concept, all characters got blocked into a video game, i personally found log horizon more exciting then sao because of the characters and the plot but that's for you guys to decide 

SAO and Log Horizon comparisons are basically unavoidable, I personally didn't mind the Aincrad arc of SAO and liked the flashy action, but I wish it went more in detail on the MMO side rather then fully riding on the fantasy otherworld aspect. If you wish SAO went more into the MMO side of things, you'll probably end up loving Log Horizon.

Accel world is probably the closest (maybe) anime to SAO, but probably not as great both goes to the future with technology that lets you move in 3D world. both plays games and is pretty serious, although accel world is just an over reacting of seriousness both main character are good at game Romantic, SAO has better romance if you watch this, definitely watch SAO. i think it will be better for most people 

To begin with, both series are mainly focused on online gaming, with the exception that they can log out and go back to the real world in Accel World, and the people in SAO are trapped. Both main characters also have a similar goal, Kirito's being clearing the game so they can get out and Haru's becoming the first lvl 10 in Accel World and uncovering it's mysteries. Also, the novels were both written by the same person, which explains why they're so alike. 

Both were set in a virtual world, except in AW it is more on a Frist Person Stance or FPS , while the other in on a MMORPG. another difference, is that in AW the players are fighting to reach level 10, while in SAO it is a life or death situation for the players. 

Both main heroes are fascinated by the virtual world. First, they are loners, but as time goes, they realize that many people care about them and change their attitude to life. Great action anime with a dose of romance. 

The easiest way to describe Accel World would be: SAO 2.0. But this time, the protagonist fights in order to impress and to show his gratitude for his true love who seemed to be out of his reach due to their different social status. The setting is placed in the near future, unlike SAO which was more middle-age like. Even the Nerve Gear from SAO is mentioned as an old version of the Neuro Link that is now used by everyone 24/7. Perhaps one needs to get used to the frequently shown emotions, but in my opinion that's what makes the different relationships so exciting! 

With both of their story written by the same author, you can't help but notice that their plots are somewhat similar. Both of them involve a setting where the characters enter a virtual world, with some consequences and dangers in their real life. 

Accel World and Sword Art Online are created by the same producer thus they're quite similar. Accel World and Sword Art Online are both games that the characters in the anime have to use something like a Nerve Gear and Neuro Linker to connect to the game; a lot of fighting going on. The male protagonists also falls in love with a strong female protagonist. 

It is similar because they are both virtual reality. And are about fighting Accel World isn't as good as SAO because the noumi arch. 

Accel World and Sword Art Online are both very much a like. They are also both set in a Virtual Reality were they are forced to play a game that has to do with battling other people.

Neuro-Linker is the next generation of VR (virtual reality), Accel World use a device known as a Neuro-Linker for access the Internet and enter virtual worlds. Sword Art Online use VR, With the Nerve Gear, a virtual reality Helmet that stimulates the user's five senses via their brain, players can experience and control their in-game characters with their minds. 

First: Its A GAME Second: Only A limited number of people know or have this game Third: If they lose in the game they either Die (SAO) or will never be able to play the game again (Accel World) Fourth: Their Main Characters are both detached from the real world (though in accel world the main character has developed, I'm not so sure yet for SAO) Fifth: Each episode is something to look forward to!  

The store line involves the idea of entering into an alternate dimension that consist of the game world. The major difference being, in Accel World one can log-out from the game to the real world, while in Sword Art Online one is stuck in virtual reality.

Both have made use of the "full dive system" which allows them to enter a virtual world using technology. Both have an amazing plot and are well worth the watch. If you liked either one, you'll most likely like the other!

Big plus its from the same author so you might reconise the style and some people say accel world is actually whats taking place after SAO several years later. In fact SAO takes place in a ''near future'' while Accel World is acting in the year 2046! Have fun watching!

Accel world and SAO have the same creator. Both are based inside an action packed game world. Accel world is about overcoming ones fears to push forward to defeat your enemy while SAO is about overcoming your enemy in order to survive. both are excellent animes. 

Both are great game-type anime. You won't regret watching this anime. Unfortunately, Accel World leaves you hanging because they could have done a lot more with this anime.

Both have romance features—the "fighting for the girl" kind of thing. They both aim for the top and finish off the game not as the "best." 

If you like virtual reality gaming, and a character with a special ability...then you will love Accel World 

These animes are similar because they spend in a virtual reality environment, where the protagonist has to evolve their battle skills in the game, facing great challenges and enemies (without taking into account that they are both creations of the same author). 

Both of them plays Virtual Reality game and the romance part is quite good. However, the protagonist of these two anime were alike. 

Accel World takes place in the same universe as SAO, but 30 years or so later with more advanced technology. 

Both anime are based in a game world, in which if the player dies they die in real life. Accel world is, to be honest, a very very poor anime. However if you liked it, then you are guarenteed to love Sword Art Online for the simple fact that its 100x better, it may be a little flawed however it doesnt take away from the beautiful art and immersive experience you get from watching it.

Accel World you create a duel avatar from your mind and it creates it based on you life and past traumatic experiences that might of happened then your avatar is designed and it is mainly a fighting game but you can do more in the game. In accel world you can go back to their and accelerate and you can go back to the real world without something happening to you in the game.  

they are both great series and are very alike accept for in SAO you die for real, but in accel world you just loose everything you have and can't play it. SAO was the first serie I watched and made me start watching. I think everyone that like watching anime serie should watch this!

Both of these series are to be considered very similar they are both created by the same author. The setting for both is in the future and both are about being in the virtual world and the main characters each having an objective to complete. Accel World uses Neuro-Linker, while SAO uses the Nerve Gear, where the players connect to the game. The virtual world in both of the series also involve real life, which creates a serious and intense atmosphere, such as death in SAO also means death in real life. Along with the intensity of the series, there is also romance going around in both of the series.

- Both set in future. - Both are intrigued by virtual reality games. - Both are socially awkward/loners (at least they start off that way). - Both use a somewhat similar device to log into their VR games (In Accel World, the device is the Neuro Linker which is far more advanced, later in the series they refer back to the Nerve Gear as the start for VR Gaming many years ago). - Both have romance (however, SAO serves far more of it than Accel World). - Both have very strong female protagonists that contribute greatly to their plots. 

Keep this short for you guys, takes place 20 or so years after SAO, virtual reality is now more advanced -later in the show, images show nerve gear from SAO in history of VR text -same makers as SAO Very good! 

I'd say if you like the futuristic gadgety world of SAO, then AccelWorld has a similar concept, and we get to see more into the world than we do of SAO. Let it be known that AccelWorld is all about mechs (sorta) and not sword to sword (and other weapons) in Sword Art Online, but the 'Accelerated World' of AccelWorld is close in similarity to the online and dangerous Aincrad or Alfheim.

Firstly, both novels were written by the same person, so it might not be a surprise that they feature quite some similarities. In both shows the protagonist enters a virtual world, in which they become strong characters. In both anime the protagonists face consequences in real life as well (related to the game world). I think SAO had a much more serious atmosphere, but if you liked one it's likely you will enjoy the other too. 

Both have great fights with protagonists willing to do anything in order to protect the one they love. Both anime revolve around games. Both players control their avatar with their bodies using a piece of technology called Nerve Gear in SAO, while in Accel World, the technology they're using is called Neuro Linker. Both avatars have a unique ability. Both main characters in SAO must survive in the game. If not, they will die in the real world, while in Accel World, they must fight in order to get more burst points. If their burst points get to zero, the game will automatically uninstall and the characters will lose their memories of the game.  

Accel world and SAO are similar because they both take place in virtual worlds. Accel World and SAO were written by the same person. They also take place in the same universe(Nerve gear is mentioned in accel world). Accel World is probably set 15-30 years in the future. I liked SAO but I thought Accel world was better. The first few episodes in SAO were amazing but then it went down hill from there. The time lapses in SAO were annoying. Accel World had a better pace to it where I think SAO was really rushed. I think if all 25 episodes were spent in the sword art world then it would've been a much better anime. The only problem I have with Accel World is that they made the main charecter look stupid in my opinion. He's really short and chubby. I think that that might be one of the turn offs people have to watching this anime. I just think that Accel World was the more consistent anime.   

They both revolve around jumping into MMO virtual reality games and are both set in the future. However, there are a couple differences. First off, the protagonists are complete opposites in all but one quality. Secondly, the depth of romance in the story in incomparable to Sword Art Online. So if you are looking for a deep romance between characters that develops fairly quickly, I do not recommend watching Accel World.

Characters go into a virtual world where they are tested to see if they have enough strength, witts, and willpower to face the people around them. They both fight to reach the end goal of the game. Much like Sword Art Online, the video game world has an effect in real life. 

If you like characters in a virtual world than accel world is your anime. The fight scenes and plot are totally amazing. And if you like those kinds of anime where the character doesn't fit the bill of being the main hero but turns into a total hero later than this is your anime.  

Written by the same writer Kawahara Reki, this brings the world of VRMMORPG to you. A must watch series for anyone. 

Both SAO and AW are set in the same world but in different time periods SAO starts in 2022, and AW in 2046, both have the same author- Reki Kawahara, and both focus and Vitual Reality, the differnce is that SAO tells the story of an OP player Kirito and the protagonist of AW is a begginer who gets drawn in to a mysterious game and tries to be a better player, oh and Brain Burst the game from AW isn't a "death game" and doesn't trap people like SAO. 

In both of these series the characters of the story are deeply immersed in virtual worlds and have the similar action of wanting to protect those closest to them. The other similarity I could think of is how If you die in SAO,you die in real life similar to how in Accel World if you lose all your burst points then you will no longer have brain burst.  

Live in a game themed anime. 

Both anime involves the use of a certain gear that puts the human brain into the in-game world, where whatever happens in-game, can affect what happens to the person in real life as well.

These two animes both revolve around games and are share the same creator! - Although sword art online is more of a do or die situation, Accel world in some ways is the same. Both animes demonstrates how close ties with friendships and bonds. - Accel world is in the same world as when Sword Art Online took place, but is more advanced. - In both animes, the creators of the games are unknown... And both have great fighting scenes and action throughout the whole show!  

Teenagers who are addicted to video games and have social problems stumbles across a far more technological advanced game that for unknown reasons puts peoples life in danger in the real world. They meet a girl who is beautiful, rich, smart and play video games (yeah right) and together they try to finish the game and understand its true purpose while making friends on the way. 

Both are action-game based where the MC is put inside the virtual world. Both are considered underdogs in the beginning, but rise to become in-game celebrities. Both have a female SC that act as a love interest and are both are also top characters in-game. Fantasy type fighting - Accel World uses special armor based on the characters personalities, Sword Art Online uses magic and special abilities in combat. The characters in Accel World have the ability to leave their world unlike SAO. Both have consequences of not "winning" in-game battles. All in all, two really awesome series that I would highly recommend if you like game tournament or action based animes.

I know what you're thinking - it's been talked about so much that it's practically an institution in the anime world. But trust me, it's a classic for a reason. It's got action, romance, and some seriously cool virtual reality worlds that will make you feel like you're right there in the game.

Differences: -Accel World's MC is a dork, weak at first while SAO's MC is overpowered and levels up fast. -Sword Art Online kills people in real life when they die on the game while Accel World freely and safely lets players log out on their account. -Sword Art Online's MC attracted girls heart to grow fond for him, this may be because of his determination and overpowered skills in terms of helping/saving them while Accel World only does not. -Sword Art Online's MC save the girls from danger while Accel World, the girl saves the MC. -Sword Art Online's MC blames himself from letting his friends/comrades die while Accel World, he blames himself because he is weak.   

Accel World's stakes may be slightly lower than that of this show, but at the same time, Accel World takes place in 2039, which is 17 years after Sword Art Online's pilot episode, which occurred in 2022. Accel World made an amazing mention of the Nervegear in one episode, and in the manga for Accel World, Haruyuki even fought Kirito. In other words, Accel World is set in the future of Sword Art Online's timeline. Accel World is also pretty cool in the sense of minor characters such as Ash Roller. Although his screen time was really, really brief, he still managed to be one of the funniest characters I've ever seen in both the english dub and the original subtitled version. I still love how every time he speaks, he increases his number, as in, "I haven't fought on the world's end stage in a while. Lucky me! On top of that, my opponent is a newbie. Now I'm MEGA-lucky! You, however, are GIGA-UNLUCKY!!!" So yeah. go watch Accel world if you like watching Sword Art Online.  

It's look like that they're on the same universe, but in diferente years. On both, the heroine ''stay'' with the hero. The opening and the soundtracks are good too. 

Closely similar because they both occur in the same universe. Idea of VRMMO. One MC has a heavy harem and the other has a lighter harem. Both are enjoyable to watch. Both have good romance factors and have good action.

Both stories came from the same person. Accel World is essentially SAO but with better writing and an overall more enjoyable story. Both involve "cyber worlds" and being able to experience life within a video game. The mcs are similar yet different, both being very skilled in games but very different when it comes to their personalities. SAO has a confident, courageous MC meanwhile Accel World's mc is small, shy and tends to be a coward. I give the edge to Accel World, but honestly if you're a fan of one you'll enjoy the other. It's a win-win. 

Various technologies exactly the same as Sword Art Online. Basically it is a continuation of Sword Art Online. SPOILER!!! it is also known that when episode 22 on ACCEL World touched nervegear in the 2020s. 

Both involve a VR game with action genre. And of course with spice of romance. Also both main characters are pro players. I recommended it because they have amazing graphics, plot, and the characterization which actually simple but interesting. 

There's a theory that this anime is related to sword art online. The theory is that the anime protagonist (girl) is the daughter of Kirito and Asuna and Kirito made the program that they use during the whole anime. Also you will see that they have something really similar to the nerve gear and they also connect to the "Internet" to play a virtual reality game like in SAO. Even if the theory isn't true, you if you liked SAO you will also like this anime!  

Both Anime stories are good for anime with a 'Game' Theme. Do you like beautiful Waifu? There is an anime with Beautiful Waifu. The story is delightful to watch at midnight when u can't sleep.

If you liked Sword Art Online for how Kirito dives into the VR world then I'd definitely recommend this one because this anime follows the same aspect of going into the VR world.

In short... the story takes place in the future, mostly in a virtual world, the task is to get level ten and meet the developer. Villains who just laugh all the time. The holes in the story, the random amplification, and it's all the work of the same author. That's why I think SAO is the best choice :DD 

Btooom! has a very similar concept - people playing a game in real life, putting their lives at stake. The difference is, however, that Btooom! actually succeeds at this. It is what Sword Art Online could've - or maybe should've - been. 

They are both mostly the same and both are great! Both of the protagonists in these anime are both thrown into a game that they were really good at. Now they need to play the game they loved in the form of survival and complete the game. 

Hackneyed 'survival game' shows that ultimately fall flat, most notably in the areas of characterization and plot. Both feature an awful romantic duo as the holier-than-thou protagonists. The romance in each of these shows is cloying and cheesy.  

How isn't it? Both follow the story of a male protagonist being forced to play a game with much higher stakes then originally expected! They both have a "Complete Romance" element, and both show issues on morality and desensitization to violence! 

while btoom is more on the gory side, they're both stuck in a game they cannot get out of unless they beat it  

Both are about a guy who games and gets actually thrown into the game one day with their lives on the line.  

I like to refer Btooom! as "Bomb" Art Online sometimes. Both deal with an online game where the human life is at stake. Only difference is that in Btooom, it becomes reality, whereas in SAO, the players' minds are stuck in the game itself.  

How are they similar ? Hmm , lets see : Survival - Check Bad Ass + Gloomy + Game Addicted MC - Check Hot Girl - Check They Need A Second Season - Check And for all those who say that SAO isn't similar to this because it's a harem-ish anime in disguise , i can't agree with them , after all the guy ' selected ' his girl . 

Both are about players who have been put into a world where they once enjoyed gaming in. Btooom is more brutal, realistic, and much, much darker while SAO is very light-hearted and more in a fantasy genre.

In one note: It's one of those game world real world dimension shifting anime but one that takes place only in the real world, and is aimed at a more mature audience with blood and gore and smart tactics.

In order to escape, a certain task needs to be accomplish: It's every man for himself, while the other is clearing the game. Despair, fear, strategies, tactics, and romance were used in the series. The difference is that Btooom is much more of an action show, real life combat, and trapped in an island. SAO features much more of a romance show, trapped in a video game, and swords and magic to fight.  

Both have a survival theme, both in a survival game setting, both have romance, both have "die in game, die for real" aspect except Btooom! is set irl.

Both of the main characters are bad-asses (albeit Kirito is even more bad-ass), they've both got a "lover" who they meet in the game, they both want to protect their friends and they both want to return home (obviously). If they win the game, they get to go home.

Forced to play a "simple" game that will affect in real life, if you lose the game you will die, worth it watching definitely 

In both anime series it starts off as a game and then becomes a reality. Both main characters are smart and know the game well. They both fell in love with a girl online and meet her in the real world. In both when you die it is happening in real life, but in Sword Art Online when you die in the game it kills your brain in the real world. When in Btooom! your physical body is destroyed. in Sword Art Online you can use many different weapons to kill, but mainly swords. In Btooom! you can only use bombs. 

Both main characters are stuck in a game to fight for their lives.  

1. The death game concept 2. Very skilled male MC 3. People forced to play against their will. In terms of plot and character developement Btooom is better. Also, it's more realistic. But Swort Art Online wins when it comes to animation and enjoyment.

These two series both focus on a forced-game-world setting, with the primary characters in each being pushed into scenarios where their survival and development are contingent on synchronising with the peculiar rule-sets of their new worlds. The protagonists in both cases begin the series as socially inept but highly proficient gamers, demonstrating emotional and mental developments as the series continues. While Btooom! arguably explores more serious themes compared to the more accessible SAO, both are good entertainment in any regard. 

- Both animes revolve around being trapped in a game - The main characters are really skilled and smart - Amidst all the craziness that the characters are going through, you can still find a little bit of romance going on in both animes - The female protagonists rely on the males however can still fend for themselves and be strong 

Both anime's main characters go to a place (because of videogames) where they have to play a game and win to survive. Both anime have a "Gamer" as a main character. If you like games anime this one will do for you. 

-Both stories take place after a game becomes the main characters realities. -both MC's struggle to adapt in the beginning but then settle down. -Both stories should become actual games... Now the only unfortunate part is Btooom! really needs a season 2...

These both are similar in a way where both main characters are stuck in a game where they have to fight for their lives. The main characters also care for the allies they make. They also don't take killing other people or players lightly and refrain from doing so unless they have to. If you love fight for survival-game type anime then watch these. 

its basicly very similar. only a slightly different concept.. while in this anime he finds himself with the game equipment and all that... in SAO gamers are actually trapped in a virtual reality MMORPG game where you cant escape unless you clear the game and, if you die, you also die in real life.  

Both are Amazing they are in common Action/Romance/Survival/Game...but still Btooom! is a little bit tougher more than SAO Why ??? Btooom's Virtual World is Terrifying (killing each other with Bombs/ fighting Each other to Death (like Hunger Games) using Bombs Only /its even hard to trust someone this anime is hilarious still i hate it cauz they left us with an open Ending (Looking for season 2 maybe in 2050):D on the other side SAO is a little bit different in rules i mean in SAO seeks for alliance so they could end up the game (Its Exciting) but Btooom is the Opos its The Last One Standing is the Winner ??? . It has a very similar feel with the whole 'trapped in a game with a hot girl and I'm useless in real life' trope.

I highly recommend Btooom! because it has the same theme for "Game", besides having the theme of survival against death, or same thing as Sword Art Online, the reason is simple the protagonist of Btoom! fight against death inside an island organized by someone wants to do reality show using the game Btoom !, and the theme of the anime is Escape / Survive in it, if you look this way you can notice that it is almost the same as Sword Art Online "Since in the two anime there is no healing magic "and if your life dies it's over ... Well that's why !! ~Google Translate!!  

It's a simulation, involves romance and good action. Story is quite good and you want to keep watching. 

Both involve characters being forced to play a video game against their will as a matter of life or death, and are goal oriented (Collect seven chips, clear 100 floors). Both also have interesting male-female partnership dynamics as the two main characters that eventually become romantic. Both couples have a lot of chemistry, but initially experience a lot of hostility in their relationship before they are forced to work together and bond. 

Btooom! it's like they took the SAO, added explosives, and turned the difficulty level up to 'Survival Mode: Expert,' where staying alive involves more strategy than finding the TV remote. 

These shows are very similar, in ways that the MC, and lots of others, and sent/stuck in a place that they have to escape from. Also, if you die there, you're dead for good.  

Both are in survival type settings, where virtual reality turns into a real battle. Btoom isn't necessarily in the virtual world, however, they follow the virtual game Btoom's rules in order to win, turning the game into a reality.  

Ouchies, don't you just hate when you're forced to play a survival life-or-death game? Yeah, me neither. Primarily, both main characters are forced to play you know what I already said. On the way both encounter multiple troubling obstacles. In the process both main characters ALSO develop a love-relationship. 

Both anime have a male main character that survives in a death game, the main characters each have a love interest(s), the main characters from each anime have a tragic backstory, the side characters from both anime are scared by the their surroundings, but are helped by the main character. 

Both of the stories tells that they are stuck in a game reality world that must kill or to be killed with no return. It shows how the protagonist has to survive and win the game by defeating the (boss/players/levels) and leave the place to go home. 

They both involve similar scenarios in which the main characters are trapped in a video game world and must do whatever they can to survive. 

Both the anime are based on game . Infact SAO is an anime in which the gamers get caught up inside a game whereas BTOOOM is an anime based on the hardships the hero faced on overcoming his favourite game on real life. It is a nice anime.So i would like to recommend this to evryone 

Btooom! is basically SAO with explosives, lots of explosives. 

Death Game. The weapons used in SAO are swords and shields ehile BTOOOM! are bombs. They have to win to get out of the game. 

Both Mcs are forced to play their favorite game but with much higher stakes then they expected. Just that Btoom isn't set in a video game but in the real world and the surrival game just follows the same rule as a video game. 

Being trapped in a world and has to abide by the rules of that game world to live / return back to the real world. 

SAO And Btooom has similar plot line. Both anime is based on Game. 

The feeling of leaving your real life and arrive to a survival challenge. 

The story tells about how the main character get trapped in dangerous game and must end it to get out. They will also meet a girl player who will be his girlfriend and make a deal to escape together. That's how the two of them go. Along away, they have to go through a lot of hardships and many more. 

The adrenaline and the urge to watch both animes is the same, they deal with totally different themes but just like in Sword Art Online, in Btooom! the game changes your life and you need to survive according to its rules. 

The cast in both series are trapped in a game of life or death, if you die in the game, you die for good. in SAO the game is vr, while in Btooom! someone recreates the scenario irl with the top players of the game. 

Both Main characters start out as a loner Quickly find a girl that they will work with in the first episode Play a lot of video games before getting stuck playing a game where it's life or death. (PLOT) All deaths are real and it's better to work in a team (which they did)

Love ridiculously over powered MCs? Then these are for you. Both Belle and Kirito are extremely over powered characters who can pretty much dominate anyone with one finger. Don't agree? Watch it till the end. Not to mention ridiculous number of girls they attract by doing nothing. Welcome to never ending harems. Both are set in a game type of environment. SAO is set inside a real game while Dungeon is set in alternative universe that is very similar to RPG game. Main difference, Dungeon has a proper, linear story with some solid character developments unlike SAO that skips years of a story line, completely ignores it's side characters and calls it development. In Dungeon every side character has a purpose. Both are meh in my book, but Dungeon is definitely better. So if you loved SAO, there are high chances you'll like Dungeon as well.   

Similar system used by both shows, similar leveling and 'floors' in both shows. The main character also has the same voice actor in both shows. Both shows share a similar theme and fundamentals. SAO is based in current day and age whereas Dungeon is actually placed in a fantasy setting versus a virtual fantasy. 

SAO's setting is where the charaters are trapped in the fatansy game world while in Danmachi is already in the fantasy world to begin with. Both characters goes on a adventure and has cute girls around them. 

Both shows are very similar in its settings, in which the story takes place in a RPG like world. Adventurers/players must clear NPC with their party in each floor in order to go up. The premise differ in that while SAO takes place in a virtual reality of gaming going wrong, Characters in Dunmachi lives in the fantasy world to begin with.

Both have a tower that a hero must climb, (with increasing difficulty) Both have the same voice actor for the hero, (and people close to them) Both written by the same Mangaka, Both have an RPG style, Both heroes have an ability that makes them stronger than the others, Both have an ability to subconsciously attract a harem, 

If you like the RPG aspects of SAO and the one guy making a big difference then you'll enjoy this. 

Both main characters have same voice actor -Both main characters only wants to become stronger to protect the people they love. -Both shows have dungeons that are segmented in floors which have monsters and bosses. -Both shows involve craft of equipment. 

The universes each anime is set in deal with RPG game elements, such as finding treasure, gaining new abilities, and fighting bosses. Both anime have a simple main characters who ends up being one of the most powerful characters towards the end. For both anime, the main characters also effortlessly build up their harem which is always fun to watch.  

Danmachi has a very similar vibe to Sword Art Online. Both are about characters in a video game like world. The main characters are also very much alike, even down to the voice actor. Both have great action scenes and great looking animation. It's a safe bet if you enjoy one you'll enjoy the other.  

Both of these anime have the same protagonist voice actor, the main setting of both shows are set in an RPG and are very similar in style. While SAO has players trapped in an RPG, DanMachi has the RPG as the real world. They both have very good action scenes during boss fights.  

If you like anime's with Adventures, and MMO. I'd say that these anime's is awesome, as it makes you follow and build up characters as they develop and get stronger, but with great funny and sweet moments! 

One anime takes place in a Virtual world while the other one doesn't. Both have very similar elements as they are both very MMORPG:ish (leveling up, special weapons, dungeons which get harder depending on the floor, guilds, parties, etc.). 

They both have the medieval action/adventure feel to them, both have great fight scenes, and both are centered around a dungeon. SAO has more romance and is more focused on getting out of the game. Dungeon ni Deai has better comic scenes -- in my opinion -- and is more focused of being one of the best in the "game" -- not really a game. 

Sao and Dungeon have the same author? I think so .. Both anime focus a gamestyle life. While in SAO they are trapped in the game, here on Dungeon they actually live in the game. Both anime have a special MC with a super power : Atracting all girls in a 100 KM ratio. So far, it looks like that Dungeon will be the same thing as SAO : great plot but crappy story telling and plot development.  

When I watched Danmachi all I got were Sword Art Online Vibes. They are very similar, the dungeons and monsters are the same except SAO is in a game and Danmachi is not. Although it's not set in the game there are many aspects that make it feel like one such as stats and currency from slaying monsters. If you enjoyed one of these shows you'll enjoy the other 

The two anime felt extremely similar. - They both have aspects of MMORPGs (stats, swords, loots, etc) - The setting is very similar (medieval times) - Both have a floor system where the stronger monsters are on the higher floors - Also the main character in both shows are voice by the same guy. 

Both anime have a similar art style, and the atmosphere feels very similar. Main difference is one is a game, and the other is real life. But the RPG elements still remain in the latter.  

Dungeon ni Deai is clearly clone of SAO. Both are series about killing monsters and gaining exp/loot 

They are both about some kind of MMORPG, and leveling Both main character struggles in the beggining but becomes rather interesting througout the story. 

Both animes have the general storyline in common: Characters living in a RPG-style world where you have to clear dungeons to achieve some kind of goal. But in fact, I find Danmachi much more interesting than Sao because, although the story is quite underdeveloped, the comedy is really good and you won't have to deal with full-romance-style arcs like I had to while watching Sao. Characters are much more mainstream, but at the same time they are much more entertaining and lovely. So, if you liked the storyline of Sao, and at the same time you like harem/comedy animes, you will love Danmachi. 

The anime's are about living in a world which levels you up after killing beasts and training at dungeon's. Also they get better after every episode and get better gear which improves them. 

I quickly fell in love with this anime. Very quickly. Its SAO only without the game part. Its their world, and they live in it. It has dungeons, monsters, leveling, equipment... standard MMO stuff. Though unlike SAO the MC is too dense for my liking. I feel like this will be a great anime nonetheless. I recommend starting to watch this immediately!

Dwelling in the deepest parts of the dungeons in order to achieve fame and power, Bell Cranel learns to maximize his powers and abilities while creating friendships. An adventure-like anime that shares ideals such as guilds, wizards, swords, and so forth. 

Both anime have RPG elements (for exemple leveling system, items, abilities etc.) although Dungeon ni Daei isn't an RPG. Both anime are playing in a fantasy world. The main character is very kind and gets very strong during the anime. Both anime contain a bit romance.  

It comes as no surprise that the environment and concept of these two series are analogous to one and another. Having the same protagonist voice actor in these two series undoubtedly strengthens the momentum going forward. 'Sword Art Online' and 'Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Similar' focus heavily on game systems, leveling and battle strategies. Through layers of boss flooring that increased in difficulty as you progress further which is accompanied by rewards, it is something that is welcomed by fans who has a certain connection with gaming. By all means, the comedy and romance are there to provide joy in this beautiful world that did not dishearten.  

- Supposedly the [MC] in both [Bell & Kirito] have the same VA, I know that the same VA means nothing,but then we come to the point that they have the same kinda feel. - A harem,pseudo-harem at the very least. - Even with that harem,still has a main girl. [Aiza & Asuna] - The point that they seem like MMORPGS. - The shows have the characters to try and get through the floors. 

The protagonist in SAO starts of as a character that is shown to be surprisingly powerful in the beginning of the show, while the main character in DanMachi starts off as a (sort of) inexperienced fighter who wants to get stronger. As time goes on, each character becomes more powerful and gain many allies and friends of all sorts! ^_^ I would definitely recommend DanMachi to ANYONE who enjoyed or is enjoying SAO at the moment. It has humor, romance, and a "clearing dungeon" sort of vibe! Magic is also involved! Not a rip-off of SAO, but a unique plot and awesome characters (it has gods, elves, and pretty girls XP)! Go check it out!  

Similar fighting scenes, Leveling up and a stage based tower. One of those anime a where you just have to watch the next episode straight after  

-Protagonists have the same VA -Interesting utilization of MMORPG concepts (SAO is one big MMORPG while Danmachi's everyday life integrates those concepts in everyday life naturally) -Both are exciting adventure animes that contain confrontation with psychological traumas and smooth animated fight scenes THey are both interesting animes that have similar themes and settings. Danmachi has a lighter story than SAO, but has its fair share of thought provoking moments. Overall if you like SAO, Danmachi will be an enjoyable anime for you. 

These anime are similar in some aspects. From having the same protagonist voice actor to having the same concept of leveling up and floors.They both focus on battle strategies. There is some romance and comedy here and there which makes them enjoyable to watch.  

Both are fantasies and have a RPG-like system and both have parties, leveling, dungeons, guilds, and etc. In DanMachi it's like they are living a game world while as SAO they are stuck in the game. They both are like a MMO! If you seen DanMachi its a must watch to see SAO! 

The characters and atmosphere. Although the game is not an online rpg environment like SAO, you will feel that it's like you are inside a game. If you are a sword art online fan you can't miss this anime. You will enjoy it from start to finish. 

Both share the same setting where MC's have to battle each level of a gamelike survival situation, how ever SAO's plot was a bit more serious and intense where the setting is in a gaming , while Dan Machi was more about getting prestige where the MC has to do also titlewise, SAO really fits well in the anime itself than Dan Machi where the titile doesn't correspond to the anime itself in fact it even conflicts with the plot.

I found these anime to be extremely similar in terms of settings. Both take place in worlds where monsters are fought and tavern-type buildings are normal (although there are some differences, the biggest being that SAO is set in a virtual world instead of a 'real' fantasyland). Both protagonists are constantly wanting to fight bigger enemies, and are voiced by the same actor. As someone who loved SAO (even with its faults) I would say to save it for the next time your bored or waiting for new episodes of other shows. 

Both have very deep characters and nice animation. Sword Art Online is more driven to the VR fans, where as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is more of a fantasy setting. Buckle in, Both are enjoyable and give a nice fantasy setting but in a different time.  

just trust me, if you like sword art online you are defiantly gonna love this great action scenes same type of live or die feel they live in a world filled of other monsters and players trying to become stronger main characters are dominators when they need to be no, foreal tho, you are going to love it ;D

As we all know sword art online is set inside SAO/The game. In this anime, it's almost as if the they setting of this anime is a game, even though it's actually real life. When I decided to give this anime ago, I began to feel like i've seen this somewhere before and I realised it exactly the same as SAO (although kirito is ridiculously OP) and they're both made by the same producers. However, this anime if ecchi just encase you were wondering. 

MC has a lot of girls. MC becomes overpower quickly. MC sometimes wears two swords or daggers. The man is kind to all girls cause they are girls:) 

If you love the idea of an RPG style world both of these are for you. Sword Art Online is literally an RPG game in virtual environment so a lot of general game mechanics are more natural. DanMachi on the other hand is a world where elements of RPG games are natural parts of society, such as dungeon delving, player levels, etc. 

MMo world, thought the characters aren't "trapped in it". Not as emotionally attaching, but better progression.  

The name speakes for itself - gamelike world with all MMORPG kinds of stuff.

they are both about fighting in a dungeon both main characters are also cool and awesome when facing their opponents and they have strong female characters fighting alongside with them. 

Bro if you have seen SAO and you enjoyed the parts where Kirito fights in the lvls, you will like this. The shows are pretty similar the only obvious difference is that SAO is a virtual world, while its the Real world in Danmachi. All im sayin is trust me brudda, if you enyoyed the first half of SAO or the whole season like me. YOU WILL LOVE DANMACHi.

What if we add shounen tropes and remove those filthy melodramatic scenes from SAO? Danmachi is the answer. In simple words, Danmachi is the better version of SAO 

They are both isekais but in my opinion this is done better cause there is no other world, this is just how life is and this what happens every day

If you like Sword Art Online, you will like DanMachi because the development of the anime plot is similar. Both have epic fights against final bosses, but there aren't fights in absolutely all the chapters.

In my opinion No Game No Life is a must see anime it deals with some of the issues such as, the main character/protag's feeling unwanted or that they belong somewhere else, in a different world or realm  

NGNL and SAO both involve the main characters being in a world of gaming. The main protaganists in both series involve a boy (game obsessed within both series) and a girl. In NGNL, the characters want to stay in their alternative world, while in SAO, the characters want to get out. The male progtaganists (Kirito and Sora) are considered as OP players in their respective world and tend to attract all the girls around them (Harem) and that they both have the same voice actor. Both series present beautiful art and have great animations.  

Unsociable characters in both anime who are both obsessed with video games. Both of the main characters get trapped in a different world. The difference whoever is the fact that the characters in No Game No Life are sent to a different world and are not trying to leave, whereas the characters in Sword Art Online a trapped inside a video game and are trying to get out. 

No Game has a really similar atmosphere in saying that both are world that are devoted to "Gaming", also both No Game and Sword Art share a unhealthy relationship between a brother and sister XD

I would definitely place No Game No Life in the same gaming category as SAO and Log Horizon. I f you loved the gaming world SAO and the intelligence of Shiroe, you should definitely check it out! 

I find this is a similar anime because the story is a bit similar. The first episode is realy catching you and its also about a guy spending much time on videogames. Its less romantic i think if you are looking for an other romantic anime.  

Main similarity of the two anime being that they are set in a 'game' world and the main characters are pro players. Unlike Sword Art Online the game world is accepted as a positive thing accepted as better than reality. No Game no Life has more of a comedic atmosphere than Sword Art Online so it's good if you like the SAO universe and are looking for something similar but lighter. 

No Game No Life is the better Sword Art Online. Imagine Sword Art Online was not just a game, but a real thing. No Game No Life will surpass your expectations with great looking characters, awesome effects, more & better fun and a focused storyboard. More tactical than Sword Art Online and a special relationship between the two main characters.

Becoming #1 in the game and allying with the #2, they must fight 100 floors of a videogame in order to leave the video game they call home, and hell.  

Do you love main characters that use their fantastic gaming skills to overcome challenges and beat the heck out of their opponents? Then, you have to watch both of these shows. Sword Art Online showcase Kirito, a hardcore gamer that was chosen to become a beta-tester, while Sora and Shiro in No Game No Life are siblings that are just unstoppable in any games you can think of. Join them in their journey as you feel yourself get invested in their adventures.  

The series share a lot of similarities. Both involve an introverted protagonist getting stuck in a game world. They are both very skilled in gaming and set out on a quest to beat the game they're stuck in. The protagonists also meet several female characters and both shows hint at possible romance happening later on. Both series are worth watching if you like adventure anime with a fantasy setting and don't mind the ecchi in them. 

No Game No Life is an anime about two siblings who devote their whole life to gaming. Because they wish to live in a world more simular to a game they get their wish fulfilled by Ted and get to live in a world where games decide everything. So if you like Sword art Online, where everybody practically lived in a game, you will like this anime too where life is a game. 

They're both escapist wish fulfillment anime. The enjoyment comes from the satisfaction of watching someone OP be OP. I'll definitely say that No Game No Life accomplishes this better, as at times SAO can't decide whether to be an escapist wish fulfillment anime or a poorly made serious fantasy drama but when it is trying to be an escapist wish fulfillment anime, it does so quite well.  

The protagonists of these animes are professional gamer with a close relationship with their sisters. They are both in a game world and want to dominate it for very different reasons. Kirito from Sword Art Online wants to end the game to free the players that are stuck in a VR game for 3 years, and Sora from No Game No Life wants to be the master of the world! 

MCs are transported to another world to play games. They're like one of the best players in the game. 

Protagonists transferred to a gaming world and are much stronger than the rest of the characters. 

This is way better because it doesn't show perverted weirdos who love each other and they don't take hostage of prostitutes and it actually has some developed characters

Beginner anime fans who watch Sword Art Online due to its popularity and enjoy the videogame aspects of the show will love No Game No Life. The show is likewise set in a videogame-like world, except this time, everything in the world is decided through games. The main characters (brother and sister) are an entertaining dynamic duo who take on impossible challenges, striving to beat the very world they stumbled into in the ultimate game. 

Both shows are somewhat related to games, have a interesting story plot , and both also have great art and visuals!

Both take place in a game-like environment. Sword Art Online takes place in a MMORPG setting. No Game No Life takes place in a world that runs on games as every conflict is resolved by them. 

These 2 anime have the similar situation for the protagonist, Which is being stuck in the mmorpg they've played. However, in overlord the game was going to be shutdown but the main protagonist decided to stay logged on until the end, instead of being forced log out he was turned into his character from the game and transfer into the game. In sword art, all current players that were online were gathered by the game creator and was told the game has became a reality and they must finish the game in order to log out with the feature of real deaths consequences. Also, the male protagonist of the anime are both overpowered. The difference between these 2 anime is the plot, While in Sword art everyone is trying their best to survive and end the game to be able to escape it because within the game if you die you'll die in reality as well turning it into a death game. But in overlord not much is known of yet about it, still the male protagonist decided to start a new world in the game with his npc companions for he has no reason to return to the old world where he has no friends or family and meaning of continuing the boring life. If you enjoy the anime in which the protagonists are stuck in a rpg game you'll likely enjoy both of these anime.  

Both main characters are trapped in a video game world, which changed when the option to log out disappeared. In Overlord the goal seems to be rather taking control of the world, when in Sword Art Online the goal is to escape the game. The starting setting are different, in Sword Art Online the main starts from the bottom and earns his power, when in Overlord the main already has everything, he just needs to adapt to everything new. 

In both of those anime, one is stuck in a game and is the main character as well. The game is RPG based with RPG elements. Warriors, mages, archers are things which are heard in with of them. In both of those, the main character (and apparently the others too) can't log out of the game. 

For me, the next anime came to my mind when talking about Overlord is Sword Art Online (SAO). Both anime are similar in term of how the character got trapped inside a game and the story goes on of how they survived in the 'new world'. As Overlord is about one main character tried to survive alone, SAO is about the whole players trying hard to live and adapting. SAO is thrilling as there are only a few players trying so hard to follow the rules for escaping while others settling down with the new environment. 

-People are trapped in the video game they were playing -The MCs are OP and have the best weapons in the game -Great animation -Amazing fight/actions scenes Difference: -Little to no romance in Overlord. There isn't some awkward, romantic episode in the middle of all of the action. And the characters/NPCs are more likeable than those in SAO.

The concept of both are quite the same one being called DMMO-RPG (Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) and the other being called Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) , the thing is sword art online tries to hard being a good game anime that it fails miserable, with bland characters , bland history and bland explications for why the hell did they change from one game to another,if you are seeing this recommendation , then the best thing i can advise is you skip SAO and watch overlord the cast is much more interesting,the animation the music almost everthying is superior to SAO, if you watch SAO and enjoy it then you should watch overlord in just a couple of episodes you will forget SAO and see a real game anime, if you watch SAO and hate it, please dont hate the game anime genre overall , overlord will show you how a real anime game is done, be carefull overlord is bloody,violent and is set in a dark fantasy world , different than the cute and laughable fairy story that SAO is , also overlord is made by MadHouse they never fail trust me.

There are hostile creatures in both anime, but, while in "Sword Art Online" the monsters spawn by themselves, the monsters in "Overlord" are summoned. The comedy in both anime is fundamentally different. "Sword Art Online" is more serious (-ish), so the comedy is more lighthearted and simple. The comedy in "Overlord" resembles that of "High School DxD", so it's more perverted and age-restrictive. Both are adaptions of light-novels. Only "Overlord" is of the 'Ecchi' genre. Both are recommendable, but while "Sword Art Online" is more of an action-type fantasy, "Overlord" is more adventurous and consistent. Which one the viewer prefers is, of course, up to to him-/herself. "Sword Art Online" is more viewer-friendly.  

Both protagonists suddenly discover that they can't log out of the MMORPG that they're playing, both protagonists don't like their life in the real world. Both protagonists are powerful in the MMORPG that they're playing.

If you're craving for some game, action, or OP main characters, this will be a good anime to add to your list. Sword Art Online and Overlord both have similar introductions. Main characters play the game and then next thing you know..! (Just in case. I'm not continuing that sentence.) To add to that, they're knowledgeable and skilled (OP characters!!!) when it comes to the game.  

Main character is trapped in his favorite virtual reality MMORPG. In overlord, The main character and his guild mates created an evil-demon lord like base, where they also created NPC's. after the servers are going to go down for good, the main character stays to the very end, only to find himself now tapped in the game, only now, the NPC's are sentient, can move on their own, and serve him based on how they were programmed by his guild mates. This story focuses more on the world that the MC as compared to sword art. We also learn next to nothing of the MC and i think they don't evn=en tell us their name. either way, very similar.  

The main character get's stuck in a virtual reality game, has to overcome the challenges that this situation entails and is trying to find his way out. (Game, Adventure, Action, Fantasy) 

Both in Sword Art Online and in Overlord the main character find himself stuck inside a RPG game, the main difference is that the overlord guy have already started as a badass dude and doesn't have cuddling moments like SAO.

Both MCs are stuck in a game. Both MCs already have knowledge of the game in order to know what to do and where to go. They're both fairly intelligent in terms of combat and general knowledge. They have subordinates that are closer/loyal to them and would fight for them. Only difference is that SAO's MC starts off weak but gets progressively stronger, and Overlord's MC starts off OP because he played the game before and had tons of strong loot and experience. 

Both protagonists get stuck in the game they were playing. Overlord however takes it on a much larger level and the main character has no idea what happened or why he was still his in game avatar but not his or the game world but a completely different one.  

If your looking for a show that will grab your attention an have you guessing what happens next Over lord is your anime. With similarities to the anime like SAO (Sword Art Online),with the main character being stuck inside a video game. its packed with friendships, excitement an full of action. Not a anime to pass up  

Virtual-Reality MMORPGs of the near future have a nasty tendency to trap people inside the game, it seems. They also share the same composer, Kajiura Yuki, lending a rather epic feel to the shows. The tone and focus of the two series are quite different though. 

While .Hack//Sign was an anime released back then in 2002, Sword Art Online is quite newer. Released after around 10 years from the first it obviously shows "new way to imagine how technology could be, new stuff in the game" and so on.. However, regardless the year they have been producted, both series are still very similar: - both start off in this special "super new virtual" MMORPG, where the technology is the highest than ever. - both, obviously show all the characters in this game - Trapped in the game: on HS there's the main chara who can't log off and in SAO instead everyone can't log off due the game master's insane idea to doom everyone inside the game until someone reaches the top level of the tower. - of course there are also: special powers, battles against monsters, quests.. and everything else that a game normally has. And many other things. Just keep watching and you'll see! If you like the idea of an "inside a video-game" story both of them are recommended!

Lots of anime today seems to going back to this online virtual world motif. Its not a bad thing but I don't think this one should be forgotten. So great. 

Both anime started in near future. Shows about persons who trapped in MMO-game. Gamers use cyber-helmets to syncronise their bodies with game. 

The main character cannot disconnect from the online game in both series Epic music and original soundtrack.  

In both anime, there is a virtual game world where people (and in .Hack the main character) are stuck. 

Similarities: - Both are fantasy/sci-fi/shounen/adventure - Both include characters that play online games and can seamlessly interact with their environments - Both include games that can affect the well being of the people playing the game - .Hack// has characters that fall into a coma, and get trapped in the game. - Sword Art Online has characters that get trapped in the game, and die if they cannot clear it. The similarities are over whelming. Though I have not seen Sword Art Online yet, I'm guessing the pace will be a lot faster than that of .Hack//Sign. However, if you like the general scenario of the anime, chances are you'll like .Hack//Sign as well (and vice versa).   

"I Can't Log Out!" These series are extremely similar. Both take place in a virtual reality MMORG with a fantasy setting, and revolve around characters who are unable to log out, and rendering what happens within the game to be 'real', and these changes were both enacted by the games mysterious creators. The primary difference you'll notice straight off is that only one particular person has this problem in .Hack/SIGN, and the main point of the show is to find out the mystery behind why and and how this happened, and how to fix it as well as what is actually going on in the game--while in Sword Art Online, it's the entire game population that can't log out, and the issue faced is for the main character to survive to complete the game and earn his freedom.  

.hack//Sign and Sword Art Online are good adventure anime based on a very similar concept - people that are stuck in a fantasy style MMORPG. They feature great animation, excellent set design and fantasy creatures. Both shows follow several different characters in their stories with the difference that SAO moves a little faster in character development and is more action-orientated, while .hack//SIGN is a bit slow-paced and covers more of the mysterious online world where the main protagonist is trapped. I myself liked SAO way more than Hack but if you enjoyed watching either of them you shouldn't hesitate to try out the other. 

Both shows right down to it have the same general concept, players get trapped in a game, and are unable to log out. .hack//Sign maybe be around 10 years old at this point, but it still holds up. It was one of the earlier examples of the virtual world thing.

well i would guess its easy to say but ya there both trapped in a game world with no way out although in sao( sword art online) if u die u die for good, and in hack//sign if he dies he just resets. i would recommend sao if u liked hack//sign cause its just an amazing action and mystery anime where u wonder y the creator of the game trapped them in the game world. It's almost certainly been said before now, but this recommendation is an absolute no-brainer. If you'd already seen one of these, watching the other surely brought this comparison to mind almost immediately. These two stories share so many elements -- they each take many pages from the same book... great book it is, mind you. You have the main character that's stuck in an online game. Uneasy alliances are forged. Strange happenings abound. There are even some commonalities in the shows' visual design. "So what's left to make me want to watch the one of these I HAVEN'T seen," you ask? There ARE differences, and they take two very similar shows in two rather different directions.While .hack takes more the form of a mystery, preferring to keep you watching by taking you from one oddity to the next. SAO leans more toward action and offers clear, shocking reveals. .hack's main character questions who to trust and why, SAO's whether they should trust at all, and how to even do so. .hack does suffer slightly from age, and SAO from a spot or two of questionable writing. Regardless, both are interesting and entertaining, and well worth watching, particularly if you are a fan of what either brings to the table.  

The plots both involve characters trapped in a beautiful virtual reality world. Though .hack//SIGN is far more dialogue based, the series complement each other very well. Both also have outstanding soundtracks by the same composer and involving stories based on interesting and varied characters. 

Both are very similar as the main theme is revolved around a game. .hack//Sign might have less action than Sword Art Online but the story is good.

GAme is base in a virtual world where (only one in .hack) cannot log out and belivees they will die if the die ingame. Also as a result of certain occurances, some players die or go into coma's as a result of playing the game. Although SAO has better action, .hack//sign has much more in-depth and has a much more detailed plot. legend f the twilight is also good but much less serious. 

Both of these series are about people being trapped inside video games.  

Go back to the start, watch the original stuck in a VR 

Both of this shows is the closest to each other in similarities. 1) Both are "trapped inside a game" anime. 2) Both are tragedies, you will feel the sadness. (unlike in Log Horizon; Grimgar beats Log Horizon in this part) 3) There could be romance. (mind you, we are still far from finishing Grimgar but there are hints). 4) Survival; if you die, you die. (unlike in Log Horizon once again). 5) Very nice art and animation. (should I say "unlike in LH" again lol) (mind you, I love LH, I'm just saying there is a better candidate now on being close to SAO). 

Game mechanics are important as the setting of the animes. They place importance on life or death in HP, and remain as a character's lifeline throughout the whole anime as a game mechanic. The game's nature is fantasy. Swords and magic skills are decided. 

Have the same setting as it depicts a game-like world, And they're also stuck on that world BUT with no recollections of the real world. This is a very underrated anime with the same setting as SAO with a mix of slice of life. 

Both series see heroes unwillingly trapped in a virtual reality style game that resembles a fantasy setting RPG game. Both have similar style battles, weapons and enemies.

Both are based around a RPG scenario as well as both touch on the grief of losing a friend as well as having to confront a world where it's kill or be killed. Although Sword Art Online has more time to develop a plot / character development than Grimgar.  

Portrays the ideals that individuals are placed in an hostile environment where they learn to openly express themselves as the warrior, magician, swordsman they are. Learning new abilities and coming closer in relationship with one another 

Both of these anime are set in a virtual MMO world, despite Grimgar never explicitly stating this. Grimgar is shorter(being only 12 episodes), but places a greater emphasis on the development of each character while SAO focuses primarily on how much of an OP Kirito is. That being said both have an amazing art style, SAO showcases great animation and Grimgar takes a more stylistic (could be described as a watercolour meets anime) approach. Both anime have a good soundtrack, with SAO being the superior (case and point: Crossing Field). If you enjoyed a story that revolves around a fantasy-meets-gaming setting, give both a go.

Sword art online and Grimgar of fantasy and ash (Hope this helps) If you absolutely adored SAO, then you may love Grimgar: Similarities 1) They are both performed within a MMORPG setting 2) Both have a “trapped within a game” theme 3) Both have crazy similar art styles 4) Both have imitate character interactions 5) Both animes of survival and both show adaptation to their environment they are set within 6) Both done by A-1 pictures 7) “Once you’re killed, you’re killed” In other words, “You only live once” 8) Both consist of tragic elements Differences 1) SAO is depicted as just a game, meaning that the game is just an illusion and only takes dominance over the mind. There’s a separation between the game and the real life individual. Grimgar, however, is the contrary. The environment Grimgar is put within is the “real world” and it’s the world they must adapt into living within. 2) Grimgar has a more serious tone to its plot. SAO is very light weighted. 3) SAO has a harem, Grimgar doesn’t 4) SAO - There is a reason and a build up as to why the players are stuck within their world Grimgar – They all face amnesia, with no clue where they came from; they’re just there.   

I suspect you already know why. Both are in set in another world and have similarities as to what an MMORPG game would seemingly be like. Characters are stuck in a new world, and will need to learn to understand and survive in their new surroundings. 

Do you love the MMORPG atmosphere that SAO gave to you? If your answer is yes, then you have to watch Hai to Gensou no Grimgar. The show portrays how normal people learn to adapt to an MMORPG-like fantasy world (the show portrayed it so perfectly and it quickly became one of my favorites!). The anime also shows beautiful character development and growth. This short paragraph just cannot picture how magnificent this show is, you just have to watch it for yourself to understand what I mean. 

Both genres take place in an RPG-like setting. Whereas, Sword Art Online occurs in a virtual world, Hai to Gensou no Grimgar occurs in a "real-world" setting, eliminating the overpowered skill sets and main character plot armor which prevents a realistic struggle for the characters and plot progression. Overall, Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is a phenomenal spectacle, a true gem hidden in the sand. 

Botha nime have the video game/RPG elemnt to the game. This one differs that it`s a bit more violent than SAO. This anime is short so its not very demanding and hopefully can become something big later on. 

Each of the two contains op mcs yet SAO exceeds the other when it comes to battle scenes. Hai to Gensou no Grimgar is darker than SAO yet both contain great drama and romantic scenes. SAO is more focused in romance but you can also see some romantic scenes in Hai to Gensou no Grimgar. Both are great anime, but I recommend Hai to Gensou no Grimgar better than the other. 

Both take place in fantasy world that people are suddenly transported into. Grimgar is a realistic take on a fantasy world and the logistics of acquiring skills and stuff like that. Grimgar as a somewhat darker and mature tone for those who like that.

In both series, the characters are stuck in an other world and have to fight monsters to survive. But this won't be easy... 

Both series involve OP gamer protagonists who are fairly light on emotions, and have a harem of girls flock to them. King's Avatar focuses more on esports, while Sword Art Online leans into romance and arc-based storytelling.  

both mc are real badass....story line is little different...this anime shows mixture of mc's both real and virtual life....but in Sao they shows on mc's virtual life with more game details 

Both MC are pro players in MMORPG. Both MC are so skilled, intelligent, badass. Xiu looks like Kirito, Mucheng looks like Asuna (exactly the same hair style).  

Kirito is similar to MC because they are both best in their games. Although Quanzhi Gaoshou focuses on eSports, they both have their struggles. The animation is really good, too. 

This show continues the ongoing trend of video-game themed anime, but The King's Avatar goes about it in a mellowing slice of life style. TK'sA is about an eSports star who is dismissed from the team after several lackluster years, and the new way of life he finds through a nightshift job at an unassuming internet cafe. This show is very surreal in spite of, or because of, it's simplicity. 

Similarities: -both about games -based on light novel Differences: -QZGS is a chinese anime -QZGS is more of a MMORPG than a virtual game like SAO Which is better? It's Quan Zhi Gao Shou for me as it focuses on the action and there is just a REALLY REALLY SLIGHT hint of romance (if you could call that a romance), which is good for me since that is what I'm looking for. (I'm a gamer btw.) Note: As of now, it is still ongoing, so if you do not want ongoing series, then don't watch it YET. (But I still recommend watching it NOW) 

If you like gaming anime, this is the best one out there imo, only bad thing is they talk Chinese, a bit weird . but u get used to it quick. 

So, to be honest, I dislike both shows. However, I figured out hey maybe since I dislike both anime for roughly the same lines, someone out there might like them for the same reasons. In fact, one of the big plus of both anime is that they provide a community fed up with wimpy MCs with winning ones whose character triumphs exist first and foremost to gratify the audience. To those simply looking for an easy and gratifying watch, both series deliver on that department. 

Both MC are OP but Quanzhi Gaoshu's story is better in depth. 

Both MCs are gamers in real life. They are overpowered in playing videp games. Good story and cool sword fights. 

Wanna see a better version of Kirito, and actually see the MC grind from the bottom after he loses everything at the start? You've got it in Quanzhi Gaoshou! 

Both main characters have outstanding skills compared to others in online games.

They're both animes focused on games, but Quanzhi Gaoshou takes a more real-life approach. Its almost like a semi-isekai, since we get to see action inside the game, but there is a distinct difference between ingame and life.

Honestly? Konosuba is SAO but funnier and less serious in every single way. Literally the same plot with very minor differences, but Konosuba is casual, hilarious, and overall a great time. 

Both enter another world that takes place centuries before the one they are originally from. They are stuck in another world and are trying to return home. Konosuba and Sword Art Online have magic, spells, monsters... etc. The main lead is a guy in both where he is surrounded by girls helping him accomplish his goal to return home. Konosuba has to defeat the devil king whereas in SAO Kirito needs to reach a certain floor and defeat someone. 

Both anime represent a video game world feel. Kono suba seems like the first arch in SAO I. 

Konosuba does the same main-protagonist-stuck-in-a-virtual-world-that-operates-like-a-video-game story but with buckets more to offer. The characters are hilarious and they actually develop despite the short run time, the video game mechanics are believable and interesting to watch, and having the same level of quality in its animation while still being classified as a harem anime. Watch Konosuba instead. 

Sword Art Online promised a personal journey dealing with death anxiety and acceptance of death in a strange world. After the first few episodes, it was clear this wasn't going to be delivered and fan service ensued. I recommend KonoSuba instead. Its more fun without the pretense. 

Both of these anime are very well known, and two of the most popular anime starting in 2016. They have similaries, with one main difference, rezero focuses on a darker storyline, and konosuba focuses on comedy. In both, a young boy is transported to a video game rpg like world, both are very well known, and enjoyable. I think someone who likes one, will enjoy the other later, but should expect a change in tone. In sao, a boy enters a virtual reality game alongside many others, and finds that they cannot leave, and the story follows from there, as he and many other gamers try to beat the game as it's there only way of getting out (and avoid dying ingame, which will lead to their real bodies dying) Im konosuba, the boy runs into a few different female characters, and they set up a guild with an end goal to defeat the demon lord. However inbetween they run into different funny quests, and situations.  

It is similar, as it revolves around being in another "world". However, the two anime differ in genre, as SAO is an action/adventure, whereas, Kono Saburashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! is both things, but primarily a comedy.

If you didn’t like SAO, then KonoSuba is for you, and if you did, then KonoSuba is for you. For those who didn’t like SAO: KonoSuba pulls apart and takes the piss out of all the tropes of the isekai genre, which shows such as SAO started, by taking a light-hearted, comedic tone and never taking itself seriously, and in doing so becoming the best isekai anime. And for those who liked SAO: Kazuma, our lovable protagonist, continues to sport his harem much the same as our favourite edgelord kirito did, has his fair share of ‘overpowered’ abilities and takes place in an MMORPG-like world.  

Both of them have an average boy main character that suddenly gets transported into a world of harem. While SAO is more based on action and adventure, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! is more based on comedy and fan service I still think they are quite similar. In my opinion Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! was better than SAO and you should definitely give it a try! 

They both take plan in a fancy world. The main character gets a harem of women. The story and the way the show is done is different but I feel like there is enjoy similar for people who enjoy SAO to enjoy Konosuba.

Konosuba is SAO in parody, so if you enjoyed the isekai of SAO but wish to see more comedic happenstances, this is the anime for you.
