Case Closed. Where to start

I'm starting by saying that I haven't finished it yet, and I'm mainly watching the episodes that carry on the plot of the Black Organization. I haven't finished the story yet, but in case I decide to change my mind I will edit the review later.

So:
The story is very slow based on the clues that are given to the viewer, as if the purpose of the show for the author was not to carry on the story of the BO but to shoot as many detective cases as possible to be shown on TV. This is probably the case, but we ... get over it.

To make people understand the slowness that I mean now I find myself around episode 900 and more or less what the protagonists know about the BO is the same as they knew in the first episodes.
It must be said that he knows how to put curiosity, the characters are mysterious and they want to be discovered willingly.

Another problem is the main characters .. practically they are nothing more than a side dish for Conan who is the absolute GOAT of the show. He does everything, only him. Any problem, any difficulty, anything is solved by the protagonist. An absolute deus ex machina. I'd like some other secondary characters to appear and maybe show the protagonist that he actually exists.
On the show, they say Conan's father is smarter than Conan himself, but the father is practically never around. He would solve everything in 5 minutes but he is not there, the Captain Marvel of Case Closed practically.

The cases are great fun and seen with friends they are very entertaining. Maybe after a while you can figure out the pattern but it's still fun.

Sometimes I get angry because the members of the BO, when they are about to be captured, seem to be made of water. They slip and manage to liquidate themselves from the crime scene before even the FBI can only catch a glimpse of them. In my opinion, here is a bit of a suspension of disbelief in true Conan style that takes the serial killers with a ball to capture them. But this, if the show is seen in a group, makes even more laugh so that's great.

The reason for the existence of the BO has not yet been discovered, I have some suspicions for now but still nothing. In my opinion this is a problem because as a spectator I don't know who we are fighting against.
edit. After 900 episodes this is becoming one of the main problems

It would be nice if the protagonists also used a little more force and maybe shot or capture more important members of the BO to find out details and motivations.


The drawing style is very beautiful and original. The animations are not the best but watchable.

The OSTs are not bad but they are few for a story that goes on for so long (the times in which the main theme is repeated in different sauces are many)

I will update the review in the future, for now I remain of this idea particularly neutral and a bit irritated haha.

Case Closed. (xD)

Well I'm only a fraction in to the series, not even 300 episodes out of a bunch, but I'm catching the jist of the series so far. The sound is fine, the voice actors fit and the music is fantastic. The animation/art is adequate, pretty much typical of shonen series. There is an actual and serious plot at the core of the series, but it's buried under a ton of extra episodic entertainment that do not add to the plot. It's okay to watch, but if the story and progression thereof are important to you, then you can skip DC. It will take too long ... to get to the episodes that are crucial for plot progression. If you just want an episodic series (meaning you don't have to watch the entire series, every episode, to understand all of what happens later) that is mystery/drama entertainment with hints at comedy and romance, then give it a shot. I enjoy Detective Conan overall, even most of the episodes that do not add to the story and furthering Shinichi's quest to get his body back. It is a decent series for long term mediocre entertainment, still though, there are other series that could provide short term braingasms that are worth so much more than this.

As I don't use MAL this is my first review of MAL, and this anime had to be my first one. This anime is heavily overhyped - and if it is good it occurs way too late. Now take this with a grain of salt seeing as I have read up to chapter 250 (or so) and watched much less.

Story - 5/10

I originally started this anime not because someone recommended it to me but because I had seen multiple clips from hundreds of episodes in (I don't mind spoilers and tbh there wasn't much spoilage); it seemed cute and from the title it ... also seemed to be interesting. I was heavily disappointed. Chapter after chapter and episode after episode mysteries popped up - and the main story (of him being shrunk and chasing the seemingly omnipotent organisation who did it to him) seemed interesting, and it is. But the problem lies in these episodic mysteries. No doubt it would be tough to think and release chapters of mysteries week after week (or month I don't know when manga chapters are released); the mysteries became duller and eventually didn't do the think that I had hoped it to do - interest me with the story and keep me watching with the cases. Each case seemed to follow the author's interest and left no room for me to speculate other than the same person it usually was (a close individual who seemingly had no motive or was a focus during the case). Every case it was, "it was you because you did this obscure thing that no reader would have known and I just decided to create tension and surprise". Nevertheless the main arc story was very interests, "a massive organisation that was OP af? Cool!" I thought, but the main story episodes and chapters happen once in a blue moon and leave me just skipping the dull cases to read the main arc.
Had the mysteries been much more "interactive" (in that the author decided it was a person because of some bull he made up), and the main story episodes were much more frequent.

Art - 5/10
Sound - 6/10

Meh, the normal. Art does what it should in showing emotion and its uniqueness is kind of nice. Sound was good too but it was kind of annoying, "masaka!" "nani!" (etc).

Character - 6/10

I actually liked the characters and they at least had some emotion. However, to that I only mean the main characters and not the randoms that come with every case who were just run-in-the-mill stock characters.

Enjoyment - 3/10

I do not recommend this. Maybe it gets better at the nth episode like the clips I saw, but nothing can be so great it has a bad beginning. That is like giving something a 10 "but the start is kinda shit" just doesn't make sense. Don't waste your time and watch better anime, and if you do have time to waste I don't see why not watching an episode or two every once in a while. I mean like I said it isn't shit but just average - heavily overhyped.

Don't get me wrong i love the show and continued watching even after
the English dub ended at episode 130. They are overly
exaggerated and they assume that the common man has the intellect of a
professional criminal. As for the main character, he is always
suspicious of every single thing going on even if it would otherwise be
irrelevant. For the sake of the story, he picks up clues from analyzing
everyone even before anything even happens. As for the police, they listen to the kids and allow them near the dark and graphic crime scenes. He puts Detective Mouri to sleep so easily and nobody even notices conan missing ... or standing right next to him.

I have watched Detective School Q thrice and am going to watch it many more times again. Even though it was pitiful that it had to end at 45 episodes, I will just enjoy it forever. And detective Conan as of now is not keeping me as excited.

Decent anime but just too long. Even though I gave only a 5 I really recommend to watch a few episodes. If you are into crime stories there are some very very good and creative puzzles that little Conan solves. But then there are too many of them and not all of them are of the same quality. Conan would have gotten a way higher rating if it was shorter and would progress a little faster in the story. But all those mediocre episodes where nothing happens except that there is yet another murder going on and eventually solved by our main character just spoil ... the whole anime. It just get's frustrating when you want to find out more about the main plot and you really have to search for it among this huge load of episodes.

Detective Conan is great... for a few episodes. Because it has one major problem: it's just too long and repetitive. Did I mention that it's too long and repetitive? If not let me say it's too long and repetitive.
