Anime 235 Meitantei Conan Reviews Filter Check 3

This show is "Groundhog day" animated. Every episode has the exact same structure, slightly different plot line and absolutely the same conclusion every single time. How people can claim it's funny or enjoyable is beyond me but I guess humor is an individual thing...

What is not subjective is logic and this series is completely absent of it. After few million episodes one would think character would change, learn from his past cases, grow at least a centimeter or two. But no, he stays the same, with same old characters still being surprised at same things that happened past 65 times. At this point Conan should ... be closing in on retirement age or he's found cure for mortality or he's solving another murder case every 30 minutes. Not sure what is less believable.

I did watch some 100 or so episodes but I can't remember how much because pretty much all of them are the same. Uneventful murder cases with same outcomes and same development. Why did I watch so many, I don't know but lets attribute it to a delicate cocktail of masochism and nothing better to watch over dry periods.

Should you watch it... perhaps if you have nothing better to do with your life, no lawn to mow, toilets to clean, knit a sweater or anything else more productive. Also it is said there's humor in there somewhere but I haven't ran into one over 100 episodes. Rating it currently has is nowhere near representative. I'd give it 5 at best if am drunk enough.

Detective Conan... ¡Oooooh, Detective Conan! This series was the first anime very people (me included) watched, if not they grow up with it. A lot of people continue watching this very long anime cause of it.
But, really, it could be one of the "childhood anime", but it's very very poor. People only watch it to see when Shinichi will return to his normal body (and that doesn't happening in 800 episodes after his srinking... lol).

Story (2): ¿Story? It's suposed that Detective Conan is about a teenager-detective that has been shrunk cause of the Black Organization, a big criminal organization having ... a lot of territory and people working in it. But... This is the premise...

What you actually have is a big number of cliche-filler episodes of murder not related to the Black Organization in any way. If it's not the tipycal murder, it's the case of the filler-romance between the two detectives, filler-cases with the boy of Osaka, filler-cases with the detective boys... filler... filler... a lot of filler...

With all this filler-cases, even Shinichi has forgotten his real objetive.

Characters (3): Detective Conan has a big variety of cast. Although, the majority are people who are only the witness of a murder, the victim of a kidnapping case, etc.

The cast of Detective Conan can be separated in three blocks:

-The main characters: The main cast in Detective Conan involves Shinichi, Ran, her father, Ai Haibara and the Detective Boys. Although they're all main characters, only Shinichi, Ran, Ai, Kogoro and Agasa have an important role in the series, cause the Detective Boys have no relation to the main plot of the Black Organization and don't need to exist at all.

-The Black Organization-related characters: This include the organization members and the FBI. They had a good charater development until the episode 500. From then, all of these characters began to decline and also appeared filler-characters to this group which the viewer doesn't have actually any idea they exist until they're introduced.

-The non-related to anything characters aka "Police + fillers": Apart from the characters who only appear in one-two episodes, they're also some recurring characters with any relation to the plot and still appearing. First, we have Sonoko, the annoying friend of Ran, which doesn't have any character development (even when she found a boyfriend whom she put horns), later whe have Heiji and Kazuha, a pair of teenager with a romantic relationship that doesn't have any progress and have recently became a cliche in their cases (always, Heiji is about to express his feeling to Kazuha and "something" interrupted them, ¡how original, thats happening in more than 10 cases with them!), the police (all with a "sweet, sweet" romantic relationship, as if it was necessary that all the cast have a couple), although the "important ones" are Takagi and Sato, which from the start the only thing that characterizes Takagi is that he is in love of Sato for reasons we doesn't know... Bravo, a romantic relationship yes, but if he doesn't knew her until one year ago, I think we must have to know WHY he loves her, right? Also, their relationship have began a cliche (again) from episode 300 to 600 in which, same as Heiji and Kazuha, they almost kiss but someone (preferly Megure) interrupted them. ¡Thanks god they didn't appear to much since that episode!

Art (1): At first the art in this series doesn't seem amazing, and that's what it is. The art is horrible for most part of the series (i'm not counting the art from the beggining because it's the art of the 90' so). Specially, during the Kir arc the art has been horrible witch very ugly character designs and animation. And this is not the worst, when they changed drastically the animation to a one better, it still having the same errors the latter has, horrible character designs with noses that seem to fit a clown.

Sound (8): The only thing I liked from Detective Conan, ¡the Sound! Although the openings and endings are not special, the soundtrack in the episodes are well done and fit the scene. But, poorly, they aren't the best in the world and not all of them are memorable.

Enjoyment (2): Personally, since I have watched more animes and more well done than Detective Conan, I haven't enjoyed the series a bit. Although, if you like detective shows that doesn't focus in the plot like CSI, this is your series.

Overall (3): This anime is not one of the "you have to watch" animes and is not much than one anime more. I think this anime should be shorter like Death Note which is another detective anime but much better...
