Synopsis

Panda Kopanda (Panda! Go Panda!) is a 30 minute movie made in 1972. Miyazaki created the original idea, the script, the layouts, and did key animation, and Takahata directed the film. The story is about a little girl, Mimiko, who was left alone while her Grandma was away. A 1973 sequel, Panda Kopanda: Amefuri Saakasu no Maki (Panda! Go Panda! & the Rainy-day Circus), continues the story and was made by the same people who made the first movie. The literal translation of the title Panda Kopanda is "Panda, Baby Panda", but it`s been released in North America as Panda Go Panda.

Panda Kopanda is a pair of sort films from the early 1970s. Yes, that is even older than me. It was put out by Tokyo Movie Shinsha. You may remember them as the studio behind Magic Knight Rayearth & Versailles no Bara. That might give you low expectations but it was also written by Miyazaki Hayao, back before Studio Ghibli was a thing. And he's done screenplays for some of the best anime films out there. So, get your expectations away from mediocrity or worse.

Story
very kind hearted. A mythical stand in comparison to the real world. Was not pleased with some of the morals demonstrated such as burglars and animals. The first episode continued nicely in the second.

Art
Moderate. I think if it was done any more real it might come off as somewhat spooky. Especially during the second episode. There was one minor cheap out screen shot in episode 2 where the art was sub-par.

Mixed Feelings
This is such a cute little story like My Neighbor Totoro. It’s pretty much about a young girl who ends up getting a father in a Panda and his little child. The whole thing feels a bit odd though, and Papa Panda feels rather awkward to the point that I feel like crying out ‘RAPE!’ since he feels a lot like pedo bear. The little panda is alright though, since he is way too cute and doesn’t really do anything wrong.

I’m not sure about the cute little girl, Mimiko. She for some reason likes to stand on her hands and show her panties all ...
