Anime 30347 Nanatsu No Taizai Ova

I think Ban's backstory more than anything is what sold me on this series in the early part of it. I look at it now from a cynical perspective knowing just how pointless a lot of those early struggle were and how stupid the story got as time went on, but at the time I was hooked. I wanted to know more and I wanted to see how Ban's story would go from here.

The second OVA is just a series of vignettes that don't really go anywhere. Mildly amusing and maybe a little but of world building but nothing particularly worthwhile there. It's just sad ... to go back and look at these older entries in Nanatsu Taizai's anime and see what might have been.

This is going to be a short review since it is just two episodes I am going to break it down for each episode. Overall I think you should definitely watch Ban's episode. I think that episode is super good and gives such a good background for Ban and his past. The second episode is just short funny stories not that important.

Episode 1 (9):
This episode really just made me very emotional. It dives deep into Ban's past before he was apart of Seven Deadly Sins and it was such a good episode. The story really grew the complexity of his character and kind of put ... puzzle pieces of the conflict between King and Ban together. I actually made me shed tears on how sad the episode was. I highly recommend it.

Episode 2 (7):
This episode was a collection of short comedic stories that do not progress any characters or storyline so it is not really that important. Some shorts are really funny like Elizabeth and Hawk's story and Meliodas and King's story. Some were just boring to me like the holy knights and some others. But it was still enjoyable in the end. It really wouldn't change you if you do watch or not.

To be an OVA, this anime is pretty informative in filling in gaps in the main season storyline. It explains what Ban did immediately after the death of Elaine, how Meliodas and Hawk meet and start the Boar's Hat, and how Merlin healed the King. The first episode is about Ban and Elaine. It just expounds a little more upon how they met and grew to care about each other before the attack by the red demon. The second episode is a series of shorts that fill in some backstory and side events in a humorous way. It follows around various characters from ... the anime and pretty much just pulls off gags, but is also pretty good at explaining some aspects of the anime that the main series didn't cover.

It's nothing spectacular, especially if you've already seen the main series, but it is entertaining in its own right. It's something that fans of the series should check out.
