Apart from a few funny lines and visual gags, this OVA, like most, was just filler garbage. Nothing really too special or worth-while about it apart from some tiny character developments for Megumin.

Lots of fanservice that detracts from the overall ideas behind the show. Not much creativity put into the premise and the story falls flat more than once. This is backed up by a messy structure that jolts from premise to premise.

If there's one positive thing to say is that the physical humor here was better than a lot of the main shows. As stated before, Megumin received minor development with a small ... look into her past group endeavors but that doesn't provide enough to save a horribly meandering story.

KonoSuba had a great start, an interesting idea, and good execution. It was a parody and it was funny. These go together perfectly. However, during the first season, towards the last few episodes, KonoSuba was absolutely ruined. Multiple things caused this - ecchi fanservice, no development, no plot advancement, and it became an absolute joke. Trust me, I like fanservice as much as the next guy, but when the show becomes only centered around fanservice, it becomes horrible.

Anyways, back to the OVA. I guess I shouldn't have expected anything big with plot, but at least something interesting involving the original ideas for the show. I ... mean, perhaps they ran out of ideas towards the end of the first season, which is kind of silly considering it's only 10 episodes, but I hoped they didn't fall into a pit of despair where they gave up on the idea and just threw a bunch of nude girls to the audience and hope they got good ratings.

I guess I was wrong.

This OVA was pure fanservice. I already saw the direction it was going when a half nude girl was introduced to the show. The plot appeared to be written by a horny 12 year old who just wanted a way to justify naked girls on television. The characters were basically made fun of because they showed no resistance, and the MC turned into a terrible human being who was definitely different than the show. The original plot basically ceased to exist, so they might as well be anywhere because it apparently isn't important anymore. This, unfortunately, confirmed my belief that the second season will probably be similar to the end of the first season and this OVA.

I understand that fanservice is sometimes good and that ecchi elements can produce humor, and that this show in the first season used some of that to their advantage. I do agree. However, this is definitely not the same show I watched the first season. It was all just for fanservice, and that makes a show absolutely terrible. The art and sound were both great, but know for sure this isn't the same show anymore.

There's not much else to write, except that I'm ashamed the producers allowed the show to stoop to the level of a typical ecchi harem series. Watch it for the ecchi, however, don't watch it for the plot. It's a completely joke.

This OVA was a complete waste of time and just downright nasty... The original Konosuba is nothing special in my honest opinion, but it's a decent anime with some serviceable characters. In this though, everyone is treated like a sex toy for our shut-in Otaku Protagonist... Even Megumin (Who is 13 years old!!!). I know Kazuma is 17, so this doesn't make it pedophile behavior, but it's still super uncomfortable for me just to watch every action transpire... -_-
This OVA just exists as dumb filler that will only please perverts and masochists maybe... It is not entertaining whatsoever to see these characters being exploited ... sexually for Kazuma's amusement. The only one not suffering is Aqua just because he doesn't find her alluring or sexy, while everyone just ends up miserable throughout most of the runtime to this travesty...

If I had to pick out a few good things to this OVA, it would be that, at the very least Kazuma felt bad for what he did to his friends at the end of the day and the animation itself isn't bad at all. It's not Amazing or anything, but it's good for OVA standards. Also Yunyun was introduced here before season 2 and she seems like a fun character if her introduction has anything to go by. I do like her relationship to Megumin which was kind of cute, giving the explosive rather cheeky character a rival to mingle and fight toward.

Other than that, this is an OVA that I wholeheartedly would skip entirely in a heartbeat. The new character was wasted here... I'll just watch Yunyun in Season 2 and see if she will hopefully be introduced much better there... Iif I ever get to season 2 that is...)

While the first season of the anime was amazing, this OVA is definitely not as good.

Starting off with the good parts of the OVA, the animation is very expressive and fun, just like how it is in the first season. It also has a lot of ecchi and fanservice if you're into that kind of stuff along with having genuinely funny moments.

But that's when the bad parts come in. The story is mediocre, but it is an OVA, so I'll let it slide. The biggest thing that bothered me was actually Kazuma himself. Usually Kazuma is a character that is an asshole on the surface ... and is sometimes a scumbag, but deep down he really does care about his friends. In this OVA though Kazuma turns into a complete uncaring asshole. It's kind of uncomfortable to watch, since Kazuma is acting completely out of character and doing exetremely scummy things, compared to how he is normally. I enjoy fanservice usually, but not if it destroys the characters that I know and love.

Overall I would not recommend watching this OVA unless you consider it non-canon.

Just a fan service OVA, which I'm fine with. What I'm not fine with is the Megumin parts of this. She's way too young to be sexualized, yet this ova does that. Besides that I thought this ova was pretty good. Not as funny as a usual episode but it isn't meant to be, it's meant to be pure fan service.

MAL wants a longer review, yet it doesn't allow spoilers. Honestly a lame policy imo. So I'll be recommending some other anime. Re Zero was amazing, my personal favorite anime. It's a fantasy isekai with a fantastic story, fantastic characters, fantastic worldbuilding, fantastic music, ... and fantastic voice acting. As you can see, everything is fantastic. And no I'm not biased. Definitely not. /s.

Attack on titan is also great, although the first two seasons are slow imo. But season 1 was ok, season 2 was good, season 3 was great, and season 4 is amazing.

Steins;gate has a slow first half, and a gross pervert Daru, but besides that it's amazing and the show is 10/10.

Konosuba's skits tend to be very hit-or-miss, and this OVA is definitely more miss than hit.

For me, the strength of Konosuba is that it doesn't rely on ecchi fanservice to carry itself. Sure, Kazuma is very lustful, but that is not his only personality trait. He is not a one-dimensional character, and that's one of the strengths of the show.

Unfortunately, this episode is solely about satisfying Kazuma's whims, and all of his whims happen to be of the sadistic lustful kind, so it's about as boring and repetitive as you can imagine.

Konosuba as a show has never relied on good art or ... animation to carry itself. So ecchi fanservice definitely does not play to its strengths. And unfortunately this entire episode is basically just ecchi fanservice.

The skit at the end was a rather underwhelming payoff. Megumin's remark was probably the only funny thing in it that I remember.

Overall, I think this entire episode could have worked as a 1 or 2 minute skit in one of the episodes. Maybe as a flashback. As a 20 minute OVA, it dragged on for way too long and wasn't even that good of a concept. The other OVA (with the golems) was much funnier imo.

The first OVA from KonoSuba

Since the series has no plot anyway, you can watch this episode in between. In terms of content, as expected, there are just different jokes and the episode is structured around a specific topic.

The special thing about this series is, among other things, that it can be perverse-humorous without attracting fan service.
In this Ova, however, it is completely the other way around. In order to appear humorous, as much fan service is conjured up as they can manage.

All "female" characters have to feel Kazuma's wishes so that he does not die miserably. Of course, one has to keep in mind that ... there can hardly be a worse scenario. Kazuma uses all tricks and opportunities to humiliate his group and act out his perversions.

In all fairness, this episode was below par in terms of humor. It was bizarre, but couldn't get a single laugh from me. The obvious reason for this is the bad approach of the jokes. Even if the characters still had their charm, it doesn't make up for the lack of humor.


You can watch this episode after Season 1, it's not disastrous if you like the style of KonoSuba. However, you don't lose anything if you skip them.
