Pui Pui Molcar is one of the best anime of recent years, and you are missing out on it. Some of the ratings and reviews might be at least partially steeped in irony due to the weird memetic following works like this, Bananya, and the 2017 CGI Pingu reboot received. However, Molcar is sincerely one of the most charming, creative, and downright surreal anime of recent years.

The best part is that you can literally watch all of it in under half an hour.

So, what makes Molcar so fun? Simple: it’s a surreal, adorable comedy. Each episode is only 2 & ½ minutes, so the ... show relies on rapid fire joke after rapid fire joke to paint a strange and fun bite-sized story. While the first ⅓ of the anime consists of cute skits involving the molcars in order to flesh out this strange world of guinea pig cars driven by tiny toy people, the rest go in different directions. Zombie parodies, spy movie parodies, a racing episode with veggie boost power-ups, a fucking Back to the Future type episode. Each episode provides a radically different story from the last so that nothing gets stale. The sheer variety on display is staggering.

Molcar is able to tell all of its stories without a single line of dialogue. The sound effects, movements, and expressions show it all, and do so with such high-octane energy. How else can the show go from an episode about a guy trying to make a romantic gesture in the midst of an ice storm, to one where a superhero fantasizing molcar gets an entire character arc stemming from receiving unwarranted magical girl customizations, back to back? How else can each of these stories still sell the emotions they wish to convey while being gut-bustingly hilarious and almost sickeningly adorable? Each of the cars have their own distinct, simple personalities that are as expressive as they need to be for these gags and stories to work, as do the one-off human characters.

This show would be infinitely harder to sell if not for the stop-motion felt-doll animation for the molcars themselves, and the adorable noises they make. The way they integrate the felt with the props and other stop-motion elements, as well as the occasional 2D or live-action element, adds to each of the gags. Instances like the molcars boosting during the racing episode, or the magical girl decals reacting to whatever the hell is happening in that particular episode exemplify this. It gets even funnier once you start seeing actual people and cats reduced to tiny figurines, or when an actual hamster interacts with the felt molcars. It’s the kind of cutesy multimedia production that you just don’t see very often, and that proves to be a testament to just how much fun quirky stop-motion projects can be.

There’s really not much else that can be said about Molcar beyond just rambling into review-padding digressions about stuff the Akira drift in episode 9 being followed up by an Akira parody poster in episode 10. Its setting and worldbuilding is as strange as its references and parodies are eclectic. It has an insane amount of energy, as well as a joke per minute ratio that gives early Spongebob a run for its money. Pui Pui Molcar is quirky, adorable, hilarious, and unlike any other anime you’ll probably see for a good while. The styles present here may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but with only 2 & ½ minutes per episode and a variety of cute jokes and stories presented in each, it makes for a wonderful comfort show. It’s really as simple as that, so go out there and have some fun, why don’tcha?

Pui Pui Molcar is arguably the most enjoyable anime ive ever had the pleasure to watch! The characters are adorable (guinea pigs are super underrated!!), the soundtrack is perfect for the type of show it is, and the characters are lovable even without any dialogue :)

Pui Pui Molcar I predict is going to be the next best anime and overtake FMA Brotherhood by a long shot. The story lacks an overall plot however redeems itself with overall cuteness.

So far this has crime, action, ecchi, horror, and thriller which is needed for any good thriller. The episodes are short and simple which leads to an enjoyable watch, I hope that one day it has more episodes than one piece.

Pui Pui is the most original anime since Interspecies reviewers and would get my vote for anime of the year any year, it doesn't have even have been airing in that year that's ... just how amazing it is. The world-building 3 episodes is immaculate and is better than that of any anime that began airing in 2020.

It is so rare to find any type of short series that span under 13 episodes without declining in quality over its duration due to various factors such as the abundance of inconsistencies in the story, or rehashing the same narrative structural wise, which is pretty common in short running series. Other limiting factors are the available funds for its execution, or its own popularity, which can induce authors to change the course of the story. However, there is one title that managed to evade said issues, being an adaptation of a series of novels by Tomoki Misato, with a shot production of 10 ONA ... episodes released over the span of 2 full months, from the period 2021 to 2021.

I am talking of course of "Pui Pui Molcar" or in its japanese title, "PUI PUI モルカー", which is by far one of the best series I have watched so far, from all different mediums. It is a magnificent hamster car anime with drama and sci-fi, enriched with military warfare, intricate political strive, marvelous characters and fantastic dialogue. It is a tale that ultimately proposes a vision society often pondered about, and that is the validity of democracy and autocracy. Many people may have assumed that this anime is purely narrative driven, being its main focus dialogue, which is partially true, yet it has so much more to offer; naturally, it has its flaws as well, which I will try to depict below in addition to its strengths.

~Story~

The story of Pui Pui Molcar focuses on the 6 year period in which the two main political factions of the city clash, the Hamster Cars and the Humans, with White Hamster Car and Woman Driver as the most important figures respectively. However, this inner city war has been waging for over 150 years, with casualties over the millions, marked by the crumbling Pui Pui dynasty which rules the Empire, and the dysfunctional democratic state of the Alliance. Both Hamster Car and Woman Driver, have a reason for being engrossed in military affairs: one to finance his university education, while the other to save her sister from the Emperor. Both being the geniuses they are, they clash with each other in accordance to the pursuit of their goals. As they gain fame and deal with their superiors, people, scheming, political and military warfare, those are the aspects that will dominate these characters's life.

The premise may seem simple as first, which may appear as a struggle of good, democracy, against evil, autocracy; however, this is absolutely not the case. The anime portrays magnificently both sides, the first at its worst, while the other at its best respectively through the numerous advantages and flaws of both political ideologies. For example, democracy being a huge impediment for drastic changes, as opposed to autocracy. This makes it for the viewer impossible to root for a specific system, as in addition each side has its own charming/interesting characters. Furthermore, it leaves audiences pondering which is actually favourable, besides making the story unpredictable and exciting.

As mentioned earlier, the story expands greatly on both ideologies with intricate political disputes that are well presented as it is realistically displayed to the viewer, with different things such as Nationalism, exploitation of the weak, oppression, you name it. Then there is another faction in the story, and that is "Hamster carism", which represents religious belief. This party was of significant importance in the anime, yet its motives and background was weak and never really expanded on; besides, its enormous influence would have many viewers raise their eyebrows whether this should be believable or not. Another lacking aspect was the fact that it didn't expand on the advantages of a religion, rather only focusing on the worst of it. Being an atheist myself, I still find this a lacking aspect. It should be mentioned that there is at times an external narrator to explain the situations to the viewer, including future events, which in the eyes of some may be a hindrance.

The low amount of episodes may deem viewers to think that the pacing is way too fast for its own good, yet this is not the case; contrary, in my humble opinion, its pacing is flawlessly done, befitting of the narrative. Detailed, rational and straight to the point dialogues are present, which are necessary for character exploration, as well as leaving viewers absorbed in it. Some audiences suggests that the first grand arc is slow, yet I tend to disagree with this; from the very first few episodes, it foreshadows on the big events that are to come, instantly leaving anyone interested, be it the story or the characters itself. In addition, Pui Pui Molcar does a fantastic job in world building, by exploring the characters and explaining the history of how Hamster Car race developed since coming to Earth, as well as political events relatable to real historical data. However, speaking of the world, or in this case the universe, its map layout is oversimplified to a 2 dimensional plane, which is naturally not the case in space. Besides, the lone city of Pui York City is supposedly of great economic influence, yet how or why it is, was never fully explored in the anime.

Naturally, it is not all politics: war is waged to achieve afore-mentioned stances and goals. The various battles that take place throughout its duration are no simple "asspulls": these are all well-coordinated through the cunning of the different commanders of each fleet, and their tactical strategies and knowledge. However, it must be mentioned that said strategies are simplified in order for audiences to easily grasp and understand said tactics, which can be lacking in the eyes of some, in addition to display to viewers that not everyone in high positions are smart. These battles are in addition of big scale: people die in the ten's of thousands, if not millions, easily discerning the damage and scale of each confrontation. Neither it is a one-sided war: through intrigue, political corruption, conspiracies and civil wars, the outcomes of battles are often unpredictable generating a lot of tension for the viewer, in addition to appreciate the cunning of different individuals.

There is a downside with the show though, even when it shows the ugly sides of warfare, it is slightly romanticized version, with subjects such as glory and honor, which not always blend in well realistically speaking - this doesn't mean that the fights are tensionless. Hand-to-hand battles are present as well, and these are done with battle axes most of the time, which is strange considering the advanced technology available. Another thing to point out would be the different strategies used: the majority is based on true historical recordings of medieval times, yet there is the problem that these are meant for ground battles, not three-dimensional warfare. Finally, some may indicate that the knowledge of the different commanders of each faction have too much influence in the battles, while at times acting a bit too convenient for plot progression, yet this was a small drawback.

Pui Pui Molcar is not all death and mayhem, it also has its share of slice of life moments, as well as humor to relieve the tension of the situation at times. These are well done, explored though the characters personalities and conceptions of each situation. For example, taken from a conversation in the anime: Hamster Car: Sniff Sniff Female Driver: Yes. - through the personalities of the characters, such situations and dialogues are easily either humerous or inspiring for the audience.

~Characters~

The cast of characters in Pui Pui Molcar is huge to say least: each has a role to play, and are of importance, being evenly distributed between the different factions in the anime. Most of the character development is rather small, which may be a drawback for some, yet it could be said that it is crucial, as their beliefs are not easily bended to accommodate sudden plot changes, which adds to the intrigue and credibility of the story. Another strong point of the series is the fact that these are not your typical heroes, they're aware of their actions and the consequences, constantly thinking whether their actions are right or not, pondering if it is justifiable with their beliefs, and with society. Furthermore, these need support soldiers to be able to operate and execute their ideas.

There is also the fact that the every single character is susceptible to death, and when it happens, it would hit any viewer as a train as audiences experienced and got to know the character from the beginning to the end. A positive aspect is that these are not over-glorified deaths as is frequent in other mediums: these death's are often simple and befitting of the atmosphere it was trying to portray at the time. Other thing to note is that although the presence of woman is scarce, and seem to take a back role when it comes to warfare, it never sexualizes them in any way; in fact, these are very capable and independent.

Moving on to the different characters, from the Hamster Cars, there is Orange Hamster, who is the likable type of character, intelligent and very cunning: in fact, his genius is one of the best among the last centuries of history. In addition, he is a pacifist which is strongly engrained in his beliefs of democracy, which he firmly stands on. He could be seen as a perfect character military wise, which may be deemed by some as unrealistic, yet is clumsy in daily situations. Then there are others such as Red, who is in care of Orange, Robbers or Indiana Hamster Car; who will forget the likes of Zombie Hamster or Police Hamster Car?

The supporting cast play an important role as well, as without them, the main characters wouldn't be as well presented or fleshed out. The representation of hamster car disputes for glory or status is likewise well relayed to the viewer, as it is a very accurate representation of hamster car behaviour. It also introduces Machiavellism for the justification of fights, another thing to ponder for the protagonist. Other good point of the anime is that there is racial diversity. A small drawback would be the fact that there are no rat races, only humans, which might seem odd considering a vast amount of the world is already explored without encountering any other types of life forms.

~Animation~

The animation quality of Pui Pui Molcar is rather lackluster, even considering it began airing in 2021: background characters were badly drawn, motions being very basic, not always fluid as desired and the likes. Nevertheless, it must be said that the quality certainly improved over the course of the story, which is rare in the medium. The character's design is something to behold as well: these are as realistically as possible designed, which enhanced the overall serious atmosphere it was trying to portray; furthermore, facial expressions are not exaggerated either, having the various personalities of said characters come over magnificently.

The animation of the different battles fulfilled its purpose, yet the motions were basic as well, and sometimes rehashed. Nonetheless, the design of the various battle ships and military tools made up for it: these are not fleshy mecha robots, but blunt quadratic structures, best suited for space warfare. In addition, there is also a lot of explosions and gore, accurately representing what war really is: ugly and cruel. Other element to remark is the use of simplified schemes on computer panels on the movement of the enemies, in order to make the viewer quickly understand the situation of the battlefield.

~Sound~

The soundtrack used in Pui Pui Molcar may not have been of original material, yet the compositions used were magnificent, and never overused. Artist such as Beethoven, Wagner, Nogira, Chopin, Brahms or Mahler are on the order of the day, wonderfully transmitting the atmosphere and emotions it is trying to relay to the audience. The sound effects of the Hamster Cars themselves may have been simplified to hamster sounds, besides of the issue with sound effects in big cities: though entertaining, it isn't realistic.

Where it truly shines as well are its huge cast of voice actors: with over 300 of them, each for all the different characters present in the anime: this is truly dedication to a series. The voice actor performed their role masterfully, carefully conveying the different emotions presented, as well as the different personalities each character had.

~Enjoyment~

Having dived in expecting a slow start, I was pleasantly surprised: the story gripped me form the very first moment with its clever dialogues, to build further up into even better story and execution of it. Pui Pui Molcar falls nothing short of a masterpiece, with a fantastic narrative, complex and intricate story, a huge cast of very memorable and fantastic characters, in addition to a glorious OST, befitting of the anime. Naturally it has its flaws, such as exploration on the motives of some factions, or some oversimplified characters, yet I believe these are minor, and of all the things it executes well, it easily overshadows these. Pui Pui Molcar may have easily inclined me to try out other car hamster shows.

So do I recommend Pui Pui Molcar? Yes, I wholeheartedly do to anyone. Surely the length and outdated animation of the series may put some viewers off, yet they will find themselves pleasantly rewarded. Don't expect any fancy overpowered characters or the likes, rather a well crafted story of the universe and driving in cities. This is what could be considered the true Illiad, a true epic.

In a brightly colored, sunlit hall of soft cotton, filled with uplifting music, gentle breezes and ambient nature sounds, comfort figures of the world have gathered around a plush throne, ready to be claimed by the supreme monarch of cuteness! The time for re-election has come, and amidst successful veterans including cat videos, laughing babies and “moe” anime, a new challenger has appeared by the name Pui Pui Molcar, humbly campaigning for the title with its adorable handcrafted stop-motion animation, wholesome mini-tales, and loads of squeaking, veggie-fueled guinea pig cars!

Every facet of these “molcar” designs adds to their cuteness, from their fuzzy arts-and-crafts appearance, rounded ... body shapes, button eyes, malleable sewn-on mouths and stubby wheel-feet, to their squeaky vocalizations sampled from real guinea pigs. Many situational touches also enhance the effect, whether the molcars' exaggerated bulged cheeks while munching on lettuce and carrots, visual effects animated with home materials, or the emphatic use of sound effects such as tiny bell dings for surprise or shock. Time and care was also taken to give distinct colour palettes and accessories not only to every molcar, but also each of the various locales, buildings, and most of the humans, lending personality and credibility to its strange setting. Thanks to these effective designs and the inherent cuteness of small fluffy pets, merely watching molcars going about their adventures can easily stir smiles in troubled souls!

But Molcar is not only excellent as an animation equivalent of comfort food, but a genuinely well-made and inspired series of shorts. Having a world filled with giant, fluffy guinea pigs doubling as sentient cars with actual human passengers is an outrageous yet ingenious premise that gets concisely explored in under 40 minutes. Each short episode features a new unique scenario and tells a simple self-contained story purely through its expressive stylized animation, with hardly a moment wasted.

Some episodes explore wacky scenarios arising from the logistics of having self-aware cars with their own free will and desires, imagining how familiar problems like traffic jams, bank robberies and cars parked in the hot sun might play out in the Molcar universe. Others borrow concepts from pop culture and put insane new spins on them. There’s even a guinea pig dance sequence or two. Whether cute, funny, heartwarming or just plain ridiculous, each episode is its own unique delight. I could give more examples, but I’d just be spoiling the fun, and if there’s any series where the phrase “knows how to have fun with itself” applies, Molcar is it!

Beyond its expressive visuals and high density of memorable concepts and gags, Molcar’s greatest strength is its consistent mix of cute absurdity with simplicity and earnestness. With it, the series has created something that can appeal to almost anyone. As a teeny-tiny time investment, I highly recommend it!

Don’t be fooled by the memes, Pui Pui Molcar is more than just a show that rose because of meme value. Rather Pui Pui Molcar is a perfect example of innovation and charm that utilizes its short runtime to the fullest.

Molcar introduces us to a world where guinea pig cars are the norm and it is quite cute. It’s an interesting premise and it’s executed quite well. There are fun skits with them which utilize the premise quite well. We get to both see the molcars on their own having fun and doing their own adventuress, as well as how they tie in with ... the humans in society. We get to see the workings of the molcars and there’s some interesting world-building into how they function. And it’s not as if Molcar only relies on its cuteness to work, it also has a lot of great ideas that go along with it. There are very movie references and humorous ideas that they bring to life with the show. They also have a good amount of twists and interesting ideas in their comedy. The molcars are so fun to watch. Their humorous mannerisms and actions are very much fun and it really makes the show work so well.

That said what really sells Molcar is the fantastic production. The sound design is incredible. Molcar wouldn’t work nearly as well if it weren’t for the cute noises they make when waddling, or when they see something scary, or when they’re happy or really just anything the molcars do. Each action they have as a corresponding adorable reaction from them and it gives me life. The visuals also look amazing. Rather than go for a typical animated approach they went for There are so many unique molcar designs littering up the full screen. The backgrounds and world feels fully realized with lots of care taken to make everything look great and fit exactly what they’re trying to go for. I also really like how they used the toy people to really sell the world and bring out the sort of toy feel that it has. Overall I’m really impressed with how great Pui Pui Molcar looks and feels. The production does a great job of selling the show and really elevates a great silly idea to a short that stands out and provides so much fun and joy.

If you haven’t watched Molcar I really suggest you do so. It takes less than an hour to watch it all and it’s very cute and fluffy fun. I’m sure most of you will be charmed by the molcars and their cute mannerisms and sounds.

I never thought there's come a day where I can confidently say that I am enjoying a kids show, but here I am... INTRODUCING THE BEST ANIME OF THE SEASON! Say hello to Pui Pui Molcar, it currently has 8 episodes out and each ep is only 2 minutes long. It's the most adorable and greatest thing I've seen in a hot minute. It's about these hamster cars that do life, yes they do life. One episode they'll be held at gunpoint, the next they are spys and after that they are just shopping, It's great, GO WATCH PUI PUI MOLCAR

Anime out of context supremacy! It says I need more info so I’m just gonna try filling this out about what I think this show is… I wonder how it smells inside of the cars…. If you get shit out and you smell bad or you have a medical issue or (std) will the car then get the drivers medical issue? When the driver gets pooped out and the car had diarrhea will the human then get turned into diarrhea? I don’t know these things… kinda want answers. This is the only review I’ve ever written I hope you are happy.

My life has forever been changed. With the first utterance of "pui pui" I knew it would be a good show. I was wrong, it isn't a good show. It is a transcendent experience filled with joy, laughs, shenanigans, and true beauty. When Plato talks about the ultimate form of beauty, goodness, and molcars, he is talking about this show. Whether you like superheroes, Indiana Jones, or the zombie apocalypse, Pui Pui Molcar is the anime to watch.

My only critique, and I believe it to be a fair one, is that there is not enough Pui Pui Molcar. Hopefully twenty years from now, I can ... look back and think, "that's where it all began." The beginning of a legacy.

I have to say that Pui Pui Molcar is an absolute masterpiece--not just in the anime world, but in all of media. Shakespeare, Breaking Bad, Fullmetal Alchemist have NOTHING on this. Not even Beserk can top this. Pui Pui Molcar surpasses all media conventions. The cinematography, the acting, the CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT? All had me on the edge of my seat.

I would show this to my children if I had the time to HAVE ANY while watching this nonstop. Pui Pui Molcar has changed my life. I used to want to kill myself, I had no hope at all in my life, not until I saw ... this on Netflix. I was desperately scrolling through looking for hope after I found out Megamind was removed from Netflix and it came like a gift from god. After seeing (Spoilers alert) the poor white molcar get traumatized after being kidnapped and held hostage, I really felt myself in him. I couldn't help but sob as I watched him overcome his trauma and live his best life... Pui Pui Molcar is more than a show to me, it is a lifestyle.

I recommend this to everyone. I think this should be shown in all schools, every morning, no every CLASS. This is the remedy our children need in this broken world. Our future generations finally have their savior.

I am not a religious man, but I believe Pui Pui Molcar is the second coming.

this anime changed my life forever. i have never seen a better, more interesting, pleasant, satisfactory, flawless, incredible, amazing, astonishing, marvelous, stunning, shocking, fascinating, surprising, magnificent, wonderful, brilliant, excellent, awesome show in my life. i would recommend this to anyone who is at all interested, and even if they are not. good god how much do you have to write for this review im getting tired. story is great, characters are great, it does actually have interesting art and it's genuinely well made, would recommend. i'm getting bored and i would like to stop writing this. oh my gosh i'm losing my mind.

Pui Pui Molcar changed my life. Suffering from a rough work-week, a wise Jesus-like figure suggested I watch this masterpiece. Upon completion, I can say without a doubt Pui Pui Molcar is the best children's anime I've seen in years. The little molcars are charming and manage to convey so much emotion and humor using only their adorable sound effects and "pui pui"s. Using only a few minutes at a time, the creators of this show manage to show (not tell) how the world of Molcars works. The real life actors are even amusing. If you need light in your life, please, take a moment ... out of your day for an episode of Pui Pui Molcar.

Pui Pui Molcar is not a masterpiece. But it is still pretty damn very good.

I went into this confused as hell, it had a score of ~8.3, has literally nothing but 10/10 prelim reviews (check for yourself), and no score nerf went down. So I was thinking what in the hell did Pui Pui Molcar manage to do in order to bring (almost) all of MAL together to agree that this right here is more than just good.

The answer is cute things.

Literally just, and only just, cute things.

How simple we are.

We have an entire theme of that, cgdct, but I guess people got bored of it.

The narrative is episodic. I can't remember anything bad about the storytelling here, in fact, in episode 11, there is legit lore which just makes this better. The narrative is not too shabby I suppose.

Audiovisuals really need praise, for a kids anime, this is amazing. But I use "kids anime" strictly because universally it does alright, slightly better than what we usually get but nothing way up there. But within this demographic, this is just amazing. The camera work looked like it came out of a high-quality Hollywood movie and the stop motion is pretty good to watch, it is easily interchangeable with fast and more static motion without making it seem awkward. The colours are vibrant too and work quite nicely in complimenting the world of the Molcars with realism mixed with cute stuff I suppose. The sound is decent, I can't say this has an OST that sticks to me, only the OP did, and that sounded quite good. Squeaky sounds are also a thing here too. Pretty good all around.

I enjoyed Pui Pui Molcar, and for a kids anime, I have to say that this can hit to mark, even for slightly older audiences too. It has childish, but charming humour rather than standard silly incoherent situations that comes out in this medium. Sometimes the little people literally moving like some Toy Story soldier is funny in itself. I have to call out on how well the anime handles each episode too. It isn't patronising for the sake of children and does a good job at executing all types of setting from bombastic recuses to police chase to everyone be dancing moments. This stuff is really good.

This isn't for everyone obviously. There is no real flaw in Pui Pui Molcar, but it is very superficial in using the right asset to get everyone to love this. This is literally just animal cars doing a thing, so of course, people will like it. If we took away even half of the cuteness, this probably wouldn't be as high as it is right now. Welcome to the internet.

At the end of the day. We get it. Everyone likey likey when a cute thing literally breathes. The internet literally runs on cute things lmao. But for anyone who is actually looking for the next level "damn, remember when Pui Pui Molcar was airing"-childhood-nostalgia-kinda-show that will probably be given to all them 2019/2020 babies. You might find it with this one. But assuming you can read this review, your childhood is most likely up. You might be a little too late for this one. I would give this a shot regardless though. You never know.

Actual review: On a more serious note, this show is a very fun, cute, and varied series of shorts featuring the adorable guinea pig car "Molcars." It is animated in stop-motion, and all of the felt Molcars are just the cutest little things I've ever seen. They are very expressive in their faces, body language, and guinea pig squeaks (which fun fact, the creator has said are sounds sampled from real guinea pigs). I would highly recommend watching this based on cuteness alone; each episode is just a joy to ... watch purely based on how lovingly-crafted the Molcars and their world are.

As for the stories, it is a kids' show, so the stories are very easy to follow, even without there being any dialogue whatsoever. However, it is worth noting how varied each story is; while the first episode features something you might expect from this kind of show (the Molcars dealing with heavy traffic), it quickly begins to explore other genres, and even parody some common film tropes too. There's an episode with a bank robbery followed by a police chase, there's a secret agent episode where they have to rescue a hostage, there's even an episode where the Molcars have to survive the zombie apocalypse (I'm not even kidding).

Each episode is a joy to watch based on cuteness alone, and let's be honest, that might be the main reason I love it so much. But the stories for each episode are varied and interesting, and it's always fun to see the Molcars interact and express themselves no matter what situation they're in. The stop-motion animation is gorgeous, and the characters are cute and expressive. Most reviews are kind of meme-y, but I unironically recommend this as a cute show to spend an evening with.

Everything about Pui Pui Molcar deserves a 10. Yes it is a show designed for kids, yes I love it nonetheless.

Story, 10/10: While each episode focuses on a different event, the characters are all linked and appear frequently as main or side characters. It somehow keeps me hooked and makes me way happier than it should.

Art, 10/10: The Molcars are all adorable, and their expressions all perfectly convey their emotions. The colours are bright and fun, which adds to the overall wholesome feel (except for the weapons, robbery, and zombies.) Very wholesome and cute.

Sound, 10/10: The Molcars all sound just like guinea pigs, and ... there is no speech. The music is used at all the right moments, and even got me dancing along with the Molcars in the wedding episode. Immaculate.

Characters, 10/10: Yes!! I love them all!! The Molcars all have their own unique characteristics and personalities, making it more interesting to follow their stories and I am very attached to them. Teddy is my favourite.

Enjoyment, 10/10: I love Pui Pui Molcar more than I should. Every episode brings something new and enjoyable, and I'm still not sure how I should feel about that.

Whether you watch anime for quick entertainment or you’re on a quest for intricate detail through motion, Pui Pui Molcar is likely to surprise you with its fluid fluffiness, comedic wit, and genuine love & care for animation. Throughout its 2 minute, 40 second episodes, each filled with fresh ... ideas and nods to other works, it treats viewers of all ages with a look into a magically colorful world of vehicular guinea pigs. All things considered, its current obscurity outside of Japan is far stranger than its runaway success within it.

Now, the medium we called “anime” typically brings to mind 2D animation, often with the idea of much of it being done by hand and occasionally with 3D elements making up part (or less commonly, most) of the production. While stop-motion might seem like a meme category under that mindset, it is a legitimate form of animation and Pui Pui Molcar is an excellent example of it. Cotton is used to great effect not just to make everything look fluffy & cute, but also as a malleable material that forms the base of many special effects that almost look like CG. The animation on the whole is fluid & detailed, with lots of attention put into minor touches like having the molcars sniff & scuttle around like guinea pigs. While it all makes the static plastic models used for humans look a tad cheap, the anime is generally not just pleasant but amazing to watch, both frame by frame and in action. The soundwork is also well-made, with a lot of SFX sampled from actual guinea pigs and much more attention put into music clips than the long-templated work put into standard kids shows.

Pui Pui Molcar also features a solid amount of worldbuilding, especially for a comedy that’s shorter than two episodes of typical anime. Another facet of stop-motion that comes into play here and not in most anime is that the setting isn’t just drawn like everything else, but has to be constructed in real life with a 3D perspective in mind. Mostly taking place in an urban setting, this world clearly has its molcars in mind, with what constitutes a normal business storefront, house, or even public restroom reimagined for use by the furry little vehicles. The detail put into smaller elements is nothing to scoff at either, with a slew of fictional posters, franchises, and other such products scattered throughout as they are in actual cities, ubiquitous yet not quite overbearing. The narrative integrity of the setting gets put into question by a number of the goofier scenarios and it becomes hard for characters to stand out much from one another, but for a short gag comedy it more than does its job on those points.

While some people might be put off by the fact that this is first and foremost a children’s show, the humor is quite good for all ages. Pui Pui Molcar’s main approach to comedy is to juxtapose its cuteness with weird and bizarre circumstances. A clear knowledge of comedic timing went into this, so while not every joke is as intricate as the next and some jokes are tamer than others, it’s fun enough to at least chuckle at overall, with the occasional joke hitting home. Meanwhile, kids can easily laugh at the goofiness of the movie parodies and creative resolutions to mundane problems while adults can catch the references and appreciate how those mundane problems are clearly the creators venting out on issues most working adults can relate to, such as traffic and littering. Much of it gives off an experimental vibe, likely not just because of the wide variety of episodic topics ranging from simple driving to insane parody, but also due to this being made by a handful of young talents in an already niche medium. For some this may be a distracting takeaway, for others it may just add to the charm; it’s the sort of thing that heavily depends on the individual viewer.

Verdict:

Pui Pui Molcar is a refreshing surprise for stop-motion enthusiasts and casual comedy enjoyers alike. While I can’t guarantee its take on surreal comedy will be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s easily the most accessible show in the medium to come out in years. With its popularity in Japan and director Tomoki Misato recently heading a new stop-motion division at Wit Studio, there may be plenty more Pui Pui Molcar to come, so now’s the easiest time to take that worthwhile quick look.

Never once has an anime about guinea pigs made me feel so invigorated. So ALIVE! Until now. This high can only be compared to an overdose on sweet Columbian black tar heroin.

This is truly a 10/10 masterpiece.

Absolute wonderful, a modern masterpiece that everyone needs to watch. It is suitable for everyone, and very cute. I think it should be illegal for not enjoying Pui Pui Molcar since the show is so great. The characters, the story and the depthness of every episode is truly beyond words. This might even top Evangelion or FMA, I would be surprised if it didn't. The show has no flaws, if it does then only the humans in the show, the molcars are perfect. I love this show, everyone should give it a wacth. Absolutely amazing. It doesn't need any voiceline to make it awesome because ... it already is awesome. Visually stunning with a moving story for every episode, and the moral behind every episode, too. This show truly brings joy and happiness to my soul during the hard times.

I know what you're thinking: a Pui Pui Molecar review, surely this is just a joke. There isn't someone who actually genuinely likes this show, right? But that's where you'd be mistaken!
But I understand you, because even I was mistaken at first! When I decided to watch Pui Pui molecar as a joke, I never expected something this great.

Yes, this is just a silly little anime about guinea pig cars, and yes, it doesn't have much substance plotwise; but it wouldn't be fair to dismiss it all just because of that !!

Artwise, I was actually very impressed at the quality: The entire show ... is done almost entirely in stop motion, and it doesn't look like the cheap kind either!! There were people who worked hard, meticulously moving each piece and slowly filming a single scene for hours on end. Creating stop motion takes dedication, and you can tell that the creators of this show had plenty of both that and love. Seriously, the quality is amazing! There's is the occasional live action person in this series, and even they are stop motion animated, which is both incredibly hilarious and such a fun little touch. The style is very cute and charming. The rare 2D animation isn't something to be sneezed at, either: it genuinely looks better than a lot of the shows coming out this season. In one scene (Spoiler) there's an magical girl character, who's design has more heart and charm put into her than a lot of the waifus of today.

Did I tell you that there's actual lore to this series? I was actually very surprised at how creative these little short are, they aren't boring, a lot happens in them, and it's just obvious how much love went into this little show. I laughed a lot at it, especially at how absurd it gets, but I smiled too :)

If you're thinking about watching this show, even as a joke, I highly encourage you, because it might make you laugh, it might make you smile, and if not, it won't take much of your time!

One of the best anime to come out of 2021, and possibly one of the best anime to come out in history.

Story: The story is basically cute hamster cars doing cute things. This ranges from them hanging out with each other, racing, eating together, partying, dancing, etc. Pui Pui Molcar is a simple anime with no complexity to its story. Each episode is self-contained as well as being 2 minutes long. Making it the perfect anime to turn your brain off.

Art style: One of the highlights of this show are its visuals. Instead of traditional 2D animation, this anime uses fluff as a ... way of forming its identity (Something I don't see in many forms of media). It compliments the furry nature of real hamsters which is why it works so well. As for the character designs of the hamsters, they are charming in a nostalgic way. They look like something a child would come up with as it combines fluffy animals with materialistic objects. I find the concept absurd and cute at the same time.

Sound: The most iconic sounds effects from this anime are the jingles that are played at the start and end of each episode, and the squeaky noises the hamster cars make as they move. Both the jingles are upbeat and light-hearted which reflects the anime's cute energy. The squeaky noises blend perfectly with the nature of cute tiny animals, as well as cars. Overall, these sounds are simple yet effective.

Characters: None of the cars have names, or any unique personality traits. Some people may find that to be an issue, but I think it is perfectly fine since this anime is meant to be easy to consume. I find it reassuring that I don't have to remember the names of every hamster car, as well as what they do. Instead, every hamster car is distinguishable by appearance alone.

Verdict: It was a very enjoyable anime from start to finish. It's a cute cozy anime that I didn't need to put any effort into watching. For me, it is a solid 10/10 for me.
