Anime 48903 Dragon Ball Super Super Hero Reviews Filter Check 3

The CGI animation, an attempt to save money since the studio knows a lot of people are going to watch it no matter how cheap it looks, is definitely going to be a turnoff for most who liked the far more polished look of the Broly film. It is not terrible but having to get used to that after 25 years of being 2D ain’t easy. And the animators knew that, since whenever there is a flashback to previous events, they keep it in 2D since they know people will be pissed if they saw nostalgic moments in a completely different style.

Anyways, assuming that is ... not a problem for you and you expect to see 2 hours worth of non-stop action, which is what Dragonball has become after plot and characters became an afterthought, be prepared for a very long and overall dull buildup. There’s a lot of talking in the first half of the movie since the bad guys keep flashing back to previous events and plotting their next move. Nobody watches or cares about such things in a Dragonball movie.

Once that is over the bad guys create two androids that magically match in power Gohan and Piccolo. Don’t ask why, it was already a stretch to have androids with more power than a Super Saiyan back in the Android Saga. The Red Ribbon can simply collect data and create androids that are as powerful as the current heroes with no cap. Go figure.

The fight between the heroes and the new androids is tensionless since nothing feels like it’s at stake. The world doesn’t look like it’s in any danger and even Pan fools around when she gets kidnapped just for motivating her daddy to try harder. The final boss ends up being a buffed up Cell. Don’t get too excited, because he’s in his second form and completely mindless compared to his predecessor. The battle is eventually won with the heroes getting new transformations (Piccolo turns yellowish, Gohan gets longer silver hair for protecting a daughter that was never in any real danger). How unfortunate that they couldn’t do that in previous arcs when the world was in actual danger. It’s not like they were training non-stop since that event; the power ups were done automatically with no training. Then the villains turn allies because it’s a show for kids.

As for the power houses of the show, Goku and Vegeta spend the whole movie at Beerus’ place, training along with Broly. And don’t expect something to come out of all that, they are not doing anything and they conveniently never find out about what happens on Earth. Essentially they were filler. Man, can you imagine not finding out about when Frieza attacked? Earth would be gone because they were careless. And that was several arcs ago. Goku and Vegeta are a thousand times more powerful since that time and yet they are less careful. What an amazing character development; they become more and more stupid. Oh, and Broly is now a doormat. A complete soyboy. That pseudo-Cell they were fighting was acting like Broly more than Broly was acting like himself.

Here’s the actual problem with the movie. It was made to look like that Dokan gacha game. Its gamers will appreciate it far more than plain watchers. The plot is nothing to bother thinking about, the new power ups are lazy, and there’s not much to get from it besides an excuse for more units in the gacha game. It’s an overall bellow average movie in a franchise that is way beyond its prime and runs purely on milking nostalgia. Said nostalgia won’t even look nice from here on since it won’t even be 2D. Dragonball of today is a mutated zombie that doesn’t resemble the show we all grew up with in the 90s. There is no blood anymore, energy blasts don’t kill anyone anymore, nobody is an angry macho man anymore; they are all friendly soyboys, and now everyone looks like a polygon gacha unit. Fuck that shit.

It's kind of fitting for Dragon Ball to bring us back to the Cell Arc after having revived Freeza and milked him for every inch of nostalgia they could get from him. It is also rather fitting considering it's basically the last time the writing in Dragon Ball was any good, with VERY few exceptions [*cough* DBS Broly *cough*]. Fans have been arguing for an eternity about if Super or GT are worse, both of which have their positives and negatives, this movie however really doesn't have much in the way of saving graces.

The slice of life aspects of the movie were one of them, ... something refreshing to see from the Dragon Ball Super series that has so far been dominated almost entirely by action and fighting arcs with little focus on things like the daily lives of characters. The soundtrack, too, was rather well done and lended itself well to the feeling of the movie and for the most part the CGI was of better quality than I expected.

That's about all I can say in the way of positives. The character designs for new forms for familiar members of the cast can only be described as ATROCIOUS. The designs featured in this movie honestly feel like they were lifted directly from the sketchbook of a young teenage fan from the 90's. The latter part of the movie is an almost carbon copy of the Cell Arc retold, but infinitely worse. It comes complete with a 1:1 copy of one of the single most iconic scenes in the series but without ANY of the emotional weight that made the scene the first time around, which frankly feels like it majorly devalued the original scene with this cheap knock off.

Overall I think this movie was an absolute hot mess, as a fan of Dragon Ball for the last two decades. This movie could have MAJORLY benefited from some more originality from the writing, better fight choreography and some better design work. It majorly dropped the ball in each of those regards.

I couldn't say this movie was disappointing, to begin with I wasn't even aware this movie was supposed to be released this year. nonetheless Dragon Ball super: super hero does what this lackluster franchise does best which it is basically milking the fans through nostalgia. You got new useless transformations that are going to become completely obsolete by the next installment, the new power ups are lazy (the power ups were done automatically with no training), the new androids and cell max are just android saga 2.0 , plot and characters became an afterthought since z so that hasn't changed I guess and the fight ... between the heroes and the new androids is tensionless since nothing feels like it’s at stake. But what about Goku and Vegeta? the strongest beings in the entire universe well whomever was in charge of this movie thought that adding a pointless scene in which Vegeta finally beats Goku but not quite was clever or something (it's hinted that Goku let him win 'cause he wanted to give his long best friend a win for a change).

Really disappointed by this movie. After the amazing looking but rather underwhelming Dragon Ball Super Broly movie, we get this...

What I liked is Bulma's with to from the Dragon Balls which is a double edged sword. The Dragon is used as an accessory devaluing and making these sacred items looks like jokes. What you get out of it is getting more horny for Bulma because she looks sexy as fuck in this movie.

Then Piccolo does something questionable and asks his potential being unlocked. The reason that is questionable is for these reasons:
- Namekian aren't allowed to use the Dragon Balls for selfish reasons. Knowing Piccolo ... is fused with Kami, that should be more of a reason he shouldn't do it
- Why didn't anyone else do that until this movie? Why not Gohan, Krillin, Yamcha, Goku, Vegeta, Goten, Trunks, Videl, Mr Satan or anyone relevant ask for this? It makes everyone look stupid for the sake of the plot.

It was a cheap power up and similar nonsense happen that took me out of the movie.

Also most the things we see Goku, Vegeta and Broly do is a waste of time. Nothing there mattered, they only existed because we need to spend the runtime somehow. And I think Beevus is also horny for Cheelai. Didn't sit with me that he looked like that at my waifu. Jk.

I find it questionable that the Red Ribbon Army can still create such powerful robots that can keep up with the Z Fighters. It was already stupid in the past, now its even worse with the power jumps. Where did they get the resources? And why didn't we see these guys in the past with Dr. Gero?

I really looked forward seeing this movie after all the hype, but now I was left completely disappointed.

Gohan and Piccolo's final power ups look almost comical. Gohan looks like an adult version of "Teen" Gohan from the Cell Saga with that stupid hairstyle. Ironically the enemy is an emotionaless Cell lookalike. And Piccolo looks like an orange Hulk.

Avoid this movie if you aren't desperate to see more Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball Super is by far the weakest Dragon Ball Series in the franchise, and sadly it appears that this movie is following the same standard.

The Red Ribbon army is back with another set of never ever mentioned members that create machines that are capable to pose a threat to the good guys. It makes you wonder how they were never mentioned until this point other than: the author didn't come up with them.

There are other problems that jump from minor but questionable to "If that were possible, why weren't they doing it before?". Bulma still uses the Dragon Balls to make herself look ... "more beautiful", following the tradition to misuse the Dragon Balls for selfish reasons.
You would expect the Dragon Balls to be kept in a secure place in cases of crisis instead wasting wishes like that for trivial and selfish wishes.
The real problem starts here: Piccolo wishes for his potential to be unlocked.
Why didn't anyone do that until now? You know how much time has wasted watching characters train to get stronger or work for the next power up? Piccolo fused with GOD to get the power to fight Cell. Most of that effort has been in vain since just wishing from the Dragon Balls to do that could have solved several issues in the story.
Not only that, but it adds to the pile of many plot devices that give a free power up that likely nobody else is going to use:
- Super Saiyan God Ritual
- Always carrying the Potara in the cases of crisis. Considering Goku and the gang have a good relationship with the gods, that should not be an issue.

Meanwhile Goku, Vegeta and Broly train so Broly learns to use his power. A pointless scene. Why not just wish from the dragon to be able to control your power and your potential to be unlocked like Piccolo?

Gohan could wish his potential and power never to disappear and he could fully dedicate his time for his family and research.

Speaking of Gohan, the movie is about him. Not only did he neglected his training again and became weak, but also neglected his family because of research. So this movie focuses Gohan to reach his peak again. And because this has been done so often, it makes you wonder if Gohan will keep all that power or has to start from scratch.

Also the visuals look better than in the trailer which looked like the opening from Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi Budokai. But they aren't visually pleasing like any other Dragon Ball movie thus far. A disappointment considering Dragon Ball Super Broly set a standard for fans what future productions have in store.

Overall, I recommend skipping this movie. The meat of the plot takes a while to get through and it's not something we haven't seen thus far.

This is a disgraceful sequel to the DBS: Broly movie. While I like the idea of other characters that aren't Goku and Vegeta to get development, the way this was written is just plain cheesy and there are so much inconsistency in the power scaling. The CGL is okay hut compared to what broly movie brought, it was plain bad. The main antagonist, Cell Max, also felt like an insult to how cool Cell was when he first achieve perfect form. Insead, we get a raging giant Cell who threw cheap punches with no skills or form at all. Its as ... if everyone on the cast suddenly forgot how to fight. Every fight scene just felt like low effort choreography.

By far the worst Dragonball related anything ive ever seen

This movie felt so much like an OVA for DB Heroes. The characters felt so off (mainly Whis, Bulma, and Beerus; but dr hedo even though this was his only showing was also inconsistent from the beginning to the end of the movie), other than the main characters the antagonists arent explored in any way at all. The 2 robots felt like whiteboards of characters with nothing redeeming about them. Cell Max who was the big bad was literally a ... screaming monster which provided no interesting dialogue between him and the main characters and the whole thing abt piccolo almost dying which caused gohan to go from 1 to 9198288839291847757591981577195719824977192749717289582981719274 was absolutely bullshit. The power scaling in dragonball now is absolutely fucked, it used to be one of its strong points and now everyone is just as strong as the gods with absolutely no practice whatsoever.
This is the shittiest piece of dragonball ever and I cant believe people are still riding toriyamas dick even after releasing amazing works like Battle of Gods and Broly. 2/10 is already generous, if the VFX and Animation werent as good as they were I dont think 1/10 would be low enough for this movie.
An absolute waste of my money

Anyone who rated this movie anything above 2/10 has never watched any iteration of the Dragon ball series.

Pros:
- Nothing

Cons:
- CGI (there's no such thing as good CGI, but this one was extra bad on top of that)

- Doesn't feature Goku or Vegeta

... - Went from literal GODS fighting back to Red Ribbon android nonsense

- Beerus was simpified

- Constant Bulma fan service was quite honestly disturbing

- The first actual fight happens 55 minutes into the anime (61% into the show)

- Random "super ultimate Dr.Gero" villain, forcefully trying to revive the android legacy

- Piccolo gains a new transformation through a WISH, not HARD WORK

- The dreadful "twist" between the Kim Jung Un look-a-like and the Ribbon boss

- The actual level of the fight is so incredibly LOW, it could have ended with Kaioken Goku's pinky; literally a side-character's superhero story

- The 2 Androids that were constantly shown in the trailers/promos were practically worthless and didn't bring any depth to the story, literally 2 "machines" that teamed up and ended up being support characters next to Gohan and Piccolo

- The main "bad guy" turns out to be a literal Bio Broly 2.0 with a brainless/soulless Cell instead

- They wasted a huge Gohan transformation on this pathetic "challenge"

- Vegeta wins a spar against Goku at the very end

- Broly is crying for something that isn't KAKAROT (simpified)

For all intents and purposes:

This movie is not cannon and has never existed.

First of all, ill give some context to my love of Dragon Ball. I can say this confidently, and I would put money on it that most UK people on here, who are early 30s, wouldnt be on this site without a littlle channel called Cartoon Network and a little show called Dragon Ball Z. So many days spent rushing home from primary school to 'tune in next time on Dragon Ball Z, being 9 or 10, seeing Goku winding up the spirit bomb and watching him unleash it when i was 19.... I joke.

Ultimately, im a massive fan of Dragon Ball. Even GT ... has great moments as far as im concerned, thank god super happened ill be honest, but still, GT had its moments. Looking back not too far is, what feels to be, the 1000000000th film with Broly it. However, it re wrote the source of Broly's hatred so something more logical, made it cannon and god damn was it great. Sublime animation, no messing about with trying too much of a story and provided us with another moment to add to the pile of the incredibly exciting moments Dragon Ball has given us over so many years. So with the weight of the above behind me, I proudly press play on Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

So......here we go.......this film is absolute garbage. I cannot even begin to convey my dissapoint at literally every aspect of this film. Firstly, lets mention its redeeming qualities....it's not very long.

Right then, now thats done, animation wise, I have no idea what the hell the studio was thinking. I have seen better character animation on Sega arcade cabinates in the late 90s. Scratch that. Ive seen better animation on the LCD screens when I went bowling. Some may say, 'well thats a massive exaggeration' I know, but im annoyed. Ill leave it with this, if you are able to sit through this, without a confused look on your face, wondering how it all went so wrong, you are a better person than me.

The story just drags, laboriously so. I get it, we can't just keep following Goku and Vegeta getting stronger and stronger for ever more, well...maybe we could, but character depth is key. So having a film dedicated to Gohan and Piccolo was welcomed. But my God was it wasted. We are done with the Red Ribbon Army guys, these morons didn't need to return. We were completely done with the Red Ribbon Army decades ago. Not not only do they return though, we get a terrible rehash of another villain. A villain no less that gave us one of the best saga DB has to offer, one of the greatest fights with Goku that is still so underrated and instilled genuine fear in me as a child watching. It was the laziest villain recall I have ever seen, and ive seen Mob season 3. Final thing ill say on the story, we get treated to some new things from Piccolo and Gohan. Piccolo's is the laziest writing ive ever seen for a character in DB and Gohan's is a wasted opportunity. Personally, this should have waited until Super returning to our screens as the manga, so ive read anyway, explains it better.

Ill end with this, as I feel like I might have lost my mind writing this. It was honestly the single most disappointing anime ive watch. There so much hype about it yet i saw no justification for it. Its certainly not the worst DB Film, but its among them and that is a deep pile of crap to be a part of.

Utter insult to old Dragon Ball /Z fans.

Art totally unfitting the franchise (looks like a xenoverse game trash... Maeda/Sato/Shintani art > any CGI), awful tranformations, sad recolor of Cell, boring plot and on top of everything, its missing El Hermano /s.

The best part of the whole thing is the 1 minute of story recaps at the beginning that look like actual remakes (not crap digital 'remasters' we got so far) of dragon ball/z scenes... which make me even angrier that we dont have a proper whole OG series remakes (without fillers ofc) of that quality, and in exchange we get this sorry piece of ... a movie made purely for milking fans via merch and new characters in games.

I'd go as far to say its worse than last 2 arcs of manga (which are also pretty random stuff, but at at least you dont feel like vommiting when reading them) and probably the worst dragon ball content since bio broly.

I'd love to know what went wrong between this and Broly movie (which on the other hand, was in my opinion, the best Dragon Ball movie ever)

I will do a brief analysis, in a short and thick way. We all know that after the Frieza saga, Dragon ball lost a lot of narrative quality (since its animation at the time was almost static) Super then just buried that beautiful GT ending six feet under and even took away the little dignity that the end of the saga had. boo brought it, we dealt with countless problems in the super, but we had very lively and well-directed fights in the final stretch, and ok, the series could go back to rest... but no, Broly's movie is by far the best thing we've ... had since creation of DBS, and I minimally expected something decent from this film... however, what we find here is narrative chaos, followed by very bad direction, with CG animation clearly made to cut costs(although I find it genuinely charming), everything is simply thrown in for free to make fanservice(they copied a scene from DBZ practically) a lot of gratuitous transformations without the slightest context (obviously made to sell action figures, since the release of DBS it has been like that) the guys didn't even try to do anything with this film, the only things I really I found it interesting, it was these androids that play with Tokusatsu culture, the giga chad picolo (I may not have liked the transformation, but the design caught my attention), that gratuitous close-up on Bulma's ass and Pan who was genuinely cute, but Other than that, the film simply offers nothing but new transformations for more action figures/Dlc's in games to be released.

This movie is absolute dog shit dragon ball has completely lost its luster. This lazy animation style full blown cgi takes away from the panels not only is it ugly the story line tries to exist but we only want to see great fighting scenes animated in dragon ball. I personally cannot stand to see the whole movie animated this way in such terrible form. TO EVEN CONSIDER THIS A DRAGON BALL MOVIE IS DISAPOINTING I WOULD RATHER WATCH ALL OF DRAGON BALL GT AGAIN OVER THIS DOG SHIT OF A MOVIE. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST IF I COULD GO LOWER THAN 1 I ... FUCKING WOULD
