Ningen Fushin started out as one of the most promising shows of the season. One of the latest in the “banished from the hero’s party” style of betrayal and redemption fantasy shows. Unfortunately what started out as a promising fantasy show with a fun cast devolved into a directionless mediocre story with no sense of purpose.

I want to be clear that while Ningen Fushin definitely fell off I still liked the show for the most part. I’m just disappointed that it wasn’t as good as it could have been. The first few episodes give us a ragtag group of adventurers who have been cast out ... by the world and betrayed for various reasons, coming together to form a party and slowly but surely opening up to one another. Seeing the characters’ mini arcs, how they went from being on top of the world to rock bottom before ultimately meeting the others was really cool.

I thought there was something natural about how all of them reacted to that trauma and moved on from it. Once those mini arcs stopped though, around episode 6 or so, we got a couple of what felt like filler episodes before getting into the next arc which frankly just felt weak. I do understand that this is of course a light novel series so the second volume was probably just weak compared to the first, but still, it’s a bit jarring with how good those first few eps were. It felt like the last two episodes are where the actual meat and potatoes of the story gets going and where the series starts to earn it’s “disillusioned adventurers save the world” title. I think it probably needed 24 episodes to really do well here.


Where the series is really lacking is in the art. The animation is pretty bad to say the least for most of the series. It’s acceptable to have bad animation when the story is good enough to overlook it, but after those first few eps when the story quality went down, the animation started sticking out even more. I mean some of the scenes look like they were done by me in MS paint or something, it’s that bad. The character designs are ok when the characters aren’t moving, but any action in a scene and it quickly starts to unravel.

Ningen Fushin is an enjoyable but not mandatory Winter 2023 watch by any stretch. It’s got an interesting premise, but fails to really make the most of it. Instead becoming a rather generic and run of the mill fantasy series that, while not bad, isn’t anything special.

Ningen Fushin gets 7 out of 10.

This is like your saturday morning cartoon by 4Kidz quality. The animation is awful, the story is extremely forced and fast paced. The quality of the writing, the powers of the characters, terrible. I feel bad for the author of this to finally get his work greenlit, and it was done by the studio producing this garbage.

Yes the animation is THAT bad, stiff characters snapping into position or sliding across stairs, missing frames etc.

Perhaps the manga is better, I still enjoy this show (in a weird twisted/painful way). Each cringe moment I get from bad production has me questioning my sanity. Give it a watch, if you don't like it after the first two episodes, I recommend stopping there.

Update: The manga is SUBSTANTIALLY BETTER, they butchered it in adaptation.

This anime has some of the best characters progression and development I've ever seen.

While this anime has it strong points in character writing, progression, and music, other aspect are still very mid in the same genre and the story doesn't have that much of substances, that's the main reason it lacking in scores.

The premise itself is very interesting and is what really made the main cast character shines and make their development of themselves and between them and others really full-filling and enjoyable to watch.

For an anime about disillusioned adventures who were betrayed, it's odd to not find any single one of them to not have an intent for revenge on the ones they thought were close. Are they cynical? Obviously yes. Do they have PTSD due to it? Yes. So you have bootleg versions of Naofumi with different backstories only to realise they are relatively the same character otherwise from their appearances and powers aside.

Story is showing four main characters trying to learn how to move on with their life after subjecting themselves into a life of nothingness as a way to sooth the pain. That's literally it. ... They just thought that they had to stop wasting away and start being productive without the idea of hitting back on the people who they had complete faith on.

Characters? It's just two personalities. One is as talked about, the main cast is filled with cynicism and nihilism, just has different powers to differentiate from one another. The latter is making everyone a total asswipe, backstabbing the main character as horrible as possible just for the sake of the story. Other than that, everyone is completely bland and provide little to no value.

As for production value, it's quite bad and generic. If you can stomach the stiff movement and weak animation, it qualifies as a weak, stale and mediocre fantasy show with the same fantasy elements everyone knows. At least it's not an isekai where the bland OP character get bitches and never proceeds to gain anything other than that.

Look. Some anime are full course gourmet meals. Some anime are bad microwave burritos. And some anime are soup. Plain, regular, out of the can soup. Not mindblowing, but a staple comfort food. You won't remember the meal, but it filled you up, and you enjoyed eating it. This anime is canned soup.

Now, there were a lot of things I really liked about this show, and a lot of things I didn't. Let me detail the major negatives first.

1) the animation is uh. Not great. It's not horrible, but it is distracting. There is maybe two or three really good shots in the whole show. ... Fight scenes are not good, there's a reliance on close ups, and all group shots look derpy. There are a few scenes that use 3D models to fill out crowds and oh boy is it noticeable. Genuinely, some of the animation is just wonky enough to detract from the story.

2) Zem is a majorly underserved character. His backstory hinges on some very touchy subjects that I'm not sure the show did well enough with to justify their inclusion, and his "arc" (if you can even call it that) is real nonexistent. He is by far the least developed character in the show despite some solid foundation and promise. In the end, they writing just doesn't seem interested in actually engaging with him, which makes the little bits you do get of him feel a bit tasteless and even uncomfortable.

3) There are a lot of dark-skinned side characters and maybe one of them is a half decent person. The others are violent, mean, or, animalistic, or rude. I feel like I continually see this in "adventurer guild" style anime, and I'm tired of it. Give us some decent dark-skinned characters who are treated just as well and just as diversely as the light-skinned characters.

4) I feel like the anime is definitely skipping over major elements from the source material, because during the first two episodes, I paused and went scrounging for a wiki to explain to me exactly what happened in some of these characters' backstories. Nick and Tiana were the worst served by this, as Tiana gets two and a half short scenes to explain the "scandal" she was a part of, and I STILL don't know exactly what happened there. Nick's story is extremely blink and you'll miss it practically right at the beginning of the story. I still don't entirely know what the whole thing in the synopsis about embezzling funds was about, it just seems like he just got kicked out for no reason.

Okay, those are my main gripes. Here are the things I liked:

1) this is actually a really fun and unique fantasy rpg world. I like the anachronistic bits. This will be hit or miss for a lot of people, but I love that there are people in suits, random modern casinos, and idols interspersed with people in tunics and swords fighting monsters. It rules.

2) the characters are genuinely fun and engaging and have really good dynamics. Zem’s poor writing aside, the characters are all genuinely very fun, engaging, and have interesting dynamics. I really like how they are all portrayed as traumatized people who are actively working to improve themselves and learn to be vulnerable again after losing things that were important to them. I especially love that all of the relationships are totally platonic, and there’s very little to indicate that there’s going to be a romantic subplot, which I feel would have muddied things. There’s just a good laser focus on these young adults working through their baggage while learning to rely on each other.

3) this genuinely may be one of the best fantasy genre shows I’ve seen in regards to diverse and interesting female characters. None of them are treated as fanservice, and all of them are allowed to be as weird, silly, and interesting as the male characters. They’re all very unique and allowed to have their own arcs, and most importantly, they all get to develop rapport with the male characters as equals, which i feel like I don’t get to see enough in these fantasy rpg stories.

4) some have mentioned that the meandering style of the story without a huge amount of plot wasn’t something they enjoyed, but I actually did. I think if you like slice of life stuff as well as fantasy, you’ll get something out of this. This story is more about the characters and their interactions over a long-running plot, and I appreciated that. It very much felt like watching the animation of someone’s D&D campaign, and it had a sort of homey feel in that sense.

In all, I while I don’t think this show will leave a super lasting impression, I’m generally pleased with what I got to see, and I’d definitely pick up a second season if it happens.

Ningen Fushin in key words (Betrayal, Guilt and Trust issues)


For me overall Ningen Fushin is okay-ish. Nothing special, just a bunch of people who got betrayed and formed a party.

The animation is pretty bad especially the walking animations, the characters are floating on air through out the series. All the sounds that they used were suitable and adjusted to the animation. The outro was the best aspect of the show in my opinion.

The main and supporter characters are somewhat memorable. They have unique personalities that make them memorable. The show would probably be better if the characters could've been given more time for their ... backstory, as well as building a foundation for their personality.

Conclusion:
The budget went all into the outro!

This show screams that it'll get better as it goes along.It's the sort of show that takes a good moment to get used to, leaving you unsure if you like the setting, the story, or it's cast members. But I do recommend it for purely the reason that once it gets over setting the scenes, and developments within it's party. Then it may not only get you more into the party, but more that te story may be a bit better paced, and enjoyable. Episode three is a clear showcase of that.

Story and characters: 7
It's a pretty straight forward story. Outcasts, normal people even, being ... kicked aside through their own parties, with their own backstories to boot. Ending up meeting each other at a bar, getting drunk and winding up making a party themselves. While rocky at first, will we be able to see this party thrive, or dissolve right before our eyes. It really brings out a good conflict of interest, which can make for an entertaining product, but the issue is more as I say, the progress may take time to get used to.

Thankfully, once you over that hurdle, you'll more likely bond with one of the characters, but overall, you would want to see where this party goes if anything. With each other their stories of betrayal, each being heartbreaking, and try to hit you right in the feels. These are characters hard done by, in such cruel ways, as it attempts to make you want to root for them. Depending how you prefer the show, will be telling of that.

In terms of how the cast are, they've got strong personalities, despite their set backs. Even if some may seem cold at first, but that may be due to their upbringing, and where they've come from, and I'm sure, it'll become more clear as the show goes on. But it's a good set of characters, that does make you root for them, and hope their new party takes them to new heights, and overcome anything that gets in their way.

Art and sound: 7
Don't have any complaints in here. It does it's job, and the motions are all well done. The monsters aren't some ugly looking creatures either. They're all fully animated, and done well. So you can't go wrong there. The colours and lighting match each and every scene that it's making out to be, with fitting sound throughout. Something that the anime does really well, and that you can't deny, that it's a well looking, and well sounding anime. Having care for presentation and detail, goes a long way.

Ningen hits a hard place, where it can seem good to one, but not good to another. The first three episodes might be able to fully grasp how the anime will end up truly. It all depends your tastes. It's the sort that'll take another episode or two, before you consider carrying on. It's got a good premise, and interesting characters, so let's hope it can drag it to success.

This will be more of a rant than a reivew.

Long story short, go read the manga, if you end up liking it, go check out the light novel.

I usually don't write reviews and am usually very generous with how I rate anime/manga in general. If it is somewhat enjoyable or there was some aspect of the show which was 'well done' or even one moment which was memorable. Just one those fact present, I would give the shows a decent rating.

I come from the manga, where the art was quite to my liking and the pacing of the story was great as well. ... Sadly the manga is stopped/discontinued after 40 chapters. So disappointing.. thought the anime will be somewhat decent but turned out not that great.

Maybe I should have managed my expectations? I thought after the Demon Slayer, Mushoku Tensei anime. Companies would give more emphaisis on Art and Pacing.

The anime skipped so much stuff it is too disappointing. Oh well.

Since I like the source material, I don't want to rate the anime any less than 7/10.

Hard to review this one. I can see a large amount of potential in the series, and if it got a few more seasons, or was a 24 not 12 episode season 1 maybe it'd be fantastic. The characters are well written, their backgrounds, motivations and current psych profile are detailed. However it just feels a bit "blah" on the implementation at the moment. There's lots of allusions to world stuff that never goes anywhere, It feels like a "fallen current/future world turned to magic" but there's no details or reveal on that anywhere.

Over-all it feels like a not-quite-there advertisement ... for the manga, which I hear is a not-quite-finished advertisement for the Light Novel. This is always a failure, as each medium, while being a "hey also check out" should completely stand alone by itself also.

I enjoyed this series, I would like to see more. However I really can't bring myself to recommend it to others as it just feels incomplete.

Yet again, another fantasy show that tries to take a different approach to the genre. As someone familiar with the genre, I can see the effort put in by the author to make it unique while still following the standard plot progression.
It's unclear if "Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai wo Sukuu you desu" follows the hero's journey narrative pattern as it's still in its early stages. The first season focuses on world-building and character development. However, it is notable that not every story needs to fit the classic hero's journey pattern to be enjoyable.
Unfortunately, the show leans too much on drama, which detracts from ... the overall experience. The group of adventurers doesn't do much adventuring, which is atypical for the genre, and the show tries to be a complicated soap drama while being straightforwardly superficial, as oxymoronic as it sounds.
The art style is discernible but not memorable, and the main characters have unique traits. The reviewer recommends this show for people who enjoy the standard adventure fantasy but notes that it ultimately falls into the average category of moderate shows. Despite some unique and intriguing aspects, the show doesn't quite stand out from the other similar stuff.

This is the kind of series thats hard to call bad or good, the plot is kinda both episodic and not, art is average and animation is below average and music just like most anime is decent.

One thing i can say it does well is the characterisation, main and side characters while they did not woo me, are decent to above average to the point i can say there is no annnoying or bad character at the very least.

A lot of parts on this anime are okay/good as standalone parts but they don't mix very well together with each other, the episodic parts don't move ... the overarching plot after all even if they are not bad and obviously the not so good production values on this show bring it down.

If you are the type to prefer the journey including the sidequests rather than the destination, then yeah watch this.

“Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don't Believe in Humanity Will Save the World” is what happens when You mix an awesome premise with terrible writing.

We follow a cadre of four adventurers. Each and everyone of them was somehow betrayed by the people they trusted the most. As such they have severe trust issues and addictions that help them cope with their trauma. Understanding their situation and complications from their personal histories they decide to form an adventurer party to help them earn money for their addictions and to keep themselves from shattering mentally. So far so good. The premise is amazing.

As for our social trainwrecks:
Nick ... - Job: Light Warrior. Addiction: Idol, Agate to be exact.
Nick is the most experienced member and leader of the party. Thanks to this he takes the role of the teacher in the beginning. He knows what makes a good team and isn’t shy about using his knowledge to strengthen the team work. He was a part of a very formidable adventurer party but was kicked out following an argument with his teammates. Later he got dumped by his girlfriend. He’s obviously possess the necessary leadership skills to take charge and ensure his new party’s growth.

Curran - Job: Heavy weapon warrior. Addiction: Food.
A dragonkin - a kind of human-dragon hybrid. She’s powerful, can use fire magic to enhance her attack power and is probably the most socially awkward member of the team. She was betrayed by her former party, used as bait in a fight with a powerful enemy and left for dead. She survived and made it back to town only to discover that their former teammates decided to take care of all her belongings. The leader of her former party was someone she dedicated herself to which makes the betrayal even more painful for her. Despite that she’s the first one to verbalise the want to trust her new team.

Tiana - Job: Mage. Addiction: Gambling.
An outcast noblewoman and a mage that trained in a formal school for magic. She’s quiet and reserved, I think she’s arguably the most hesitant to trust her teammates. She’s a powerful mage skilled in elemental magic but lacking in fire and earth magic. She was betrayed by her fiance and family after unjustified accusations made out of jealousy of her skills and social status.

Zem - Job: (Ex)Priest. Addiction: Women (can’t blame him for that).
An excommunicated priest. Despite that he can still use his healing powers so either his god knows he’s innocent and decides to dump him or healing magic isn’t as exclusive to priests as it first seems. He’s caring and kind, he seems to be the most friendly of the bunch but keeps a lot to himself. After rejecting a young girl who made advances to him (bravo, finally a priest with a proper attitude toward children) he is arrested and thrown to jail for a couple of years. Yes, the rejected girl lied and got him excommunicated.

Needless to say that because of what happened to them they have some serious trust issues. Now, all this got me pretty hyped for the show. I would love to see how this pack of forlorn “heroes” learns to trust each other and maybe, just maybe solve their personal issues. Yeah… that would require someone who understands the subject and knows how to write.

I’m gonna say it out right. There is a serious problem with pacing in this story. The first episode set’s up everything beautifully if a little cliched, the second episode manages to use the set up in a pretty proper way. The episode 3 fucks it all up. In episode 3 everyone acts almost like they are best friends. Yes they still say shit that are pretty much verbal declarations of their distrust but their behaviour shows something totally different. It’s only at the very end the act like they should all the time, they have secrets, they treat each other with politeness but keep their distance. It’s like for the last two episodes they actually hired someone who understands what benign betrayal means, how people like that act toward new people and what kind of scars that leaves. If they started with this and worked their way up that would be probably one of the best shows this year. Sadly… we got this.

One of the reasons why they had to jump start their “friendship” is a unique power they square soon after the formation of the party. That power requires them to put some trust in each other to get a pretty hefty but temporary powerup which they use to defeat all the big baddies they face. Because of the fast escalation of danger they got into a slow buildup was out of the question. Shame.

Now… It's not all doom and gloom when it comes to writing. The cast's interactions with each other are actually pretty entertaining. The way they get into conflicts and resolve them is an example of mostly creative writing that could be plausible within the confinements of the world and personalities of the cast. I wish we could have more of that but like I said they start to act like friends too fast for us to enjoy that.

I really don’t want to shit on this show. It has tons of potential but requires some delicate writing to make use of it. You can’t rush things too much or it will be bland and another example of deus ex machina but You can’t make it too slow or risk the show being to stale.
Now don’t get me wrong, there are some pretty creative ideas in the show that actually make up, to a certain degree, for bad writing but most of them are in the first half. Despite that I think this show can be enjoyable as long as You understand what You’re getting yourself into.

Here me out about this one, I don't think an anime has to be truly good to be enjoyable. I'm sure we all have that show or movie that we know isn't a work of art or revolutionary material but we still enjoy it despite its many flaws. "Ningen who's title is too long for anyone to type out" is, in my opinion, that type of show. Its flaws are countless but I believe the premise has a lot of heart within it. Four ragtag mismatched individuals, each with their own flaws and bad habits form a group and become pillars for each other to ... lean on. While the animation department nor the synopsis is doing it any favors I would be hesitant to just classify it as the generic isekai/fantasy bulk of the season. It has characters that are each unique (for christ's sake one person is legitimately an idol stan), and really cares about telling a fantasy story instead of deviating off into harems or overpowered self-insert fantasy protagonist type of degeneracy. While this isn't going to be something that's talked about even a week after it finishes airing I still believe more people should acknowledge and encourage it when fantasy stories that truly want to focus on the characters and story to get told. The later episodes may feel a little cringe-inducing at times but for what it's worth it's a solid 7.5 in my book, and since MAL doesn't offer decimals I'm in the mood to round up the show to an 8. Let's raise the curve of this show a little and get it out of the 6 range to a respectable 7!

I kinda doubt how this story will goes since It tells you about the life of 4 adventures who fall into despair until they finally found the "way" it meant to live. Hobbies. And supporting hobbies means Money. Yes, Adventurers need Money, but they can't find any people to be trusted, until 4 of them met at same places, while drunk.

To be honest, I like the concept, adventurers make own party and do quests but doubting their trusts and loyalty (because yeah thats how everyone will react on first place), spread rewards equally and didn't mind their private ... times and troubles.

But I can tell the adaption really drags out really bad, to the point I'm not sure if this is "Second" Studio Deen or what, I think the latest one "Episode 6" hit the mark of this issue. Its like 3 Episodes and they already gave up.

Well for now this is just my thoughts on watching whole 6 episodes. But I can tell the "gambling" on next episode probably I wonder which Demographics are this show intended for? But thats my side note c:

Four protagonists, four simple backstories, none of them are too complicated or confusing, Ningen Fushin is the type of anime you shut your brain down to, because you probably won't remember much of it anyway in the end.

It's good for what it is, but well...what is it? It's an isekai with decent music, decent, sometimes horrible animation, story most won't remember or want to remember, don't get me wrong, it's fun...but it's not the type of fun you'll look fondly back on, Ningen Fushin, if you were handled by an at least better studio, who knows, you might even turned out better.
