This very well might be the most controversial anime of the last few years. I want to make one thing clear though. Mushoku Tensei is an anime and Light Novel, NOT a political statement. Are the controversial aspects of MT cause for concern and gaping holes in the consistency of the show? Depends on how you look at it. But it isn't fair to the series if it is judged based on today's standards as it is clearly in some medieval/fantasy world.

Mushoku Tensei season two can be separated into two arcs essentially, the post-Eris adventuring arc and then the Ronoa school of magic arc. ... The first arc is standard Mushoku Tensei, business as usual. Rudy, being the stud that he is, goes adventuring solo, finds a group of people, and does his thing. Obviously, I don't want to spoil things but then he finds himself at a school. Here, the style changes, there is less action and an increased emphasis on humor, more than what was typically present in episodes past. There is also a large romance element at play as well. Towards the end of the season, there are some major plot developments that keep viewers guessing. Sound, animation, and voice acting are all TOP NOTCH, I need not say anything further, the production team absolutely killed it yet again.

Now on to my criticisms, first off is the story. I know that Mushoku Tensei is an adventuring story but there is no real tension in the series, there really isn't any end goal. This is a major issue because it just saps a lot of the tension and excitement from the series. I guess it is fun to watch Rudy and his friends/lovers run about and have fun but there is no goal for Rudy, which is made evidently clear at one point later in this season. We get almost nothing about Hitogami and Orsted in this season which is yet another bummer. Rudy is also stupid overpowered so we know he's probably not going to die as he is eons more powerful than anybody and everybody on campus.

The main purpose and moral that Mushoku Tensei is trying to push is that Rudeus, having been reincarnated into this world, has turned over a new leaf and actually wants to work to improve himself unlike in his previous life as a shut-in. Here's where the controversies of MT finally become a cause for concern. Rudy is SUPPOSEDLY trying to fix himself but almost everything he does is contradictory to that very goal whether that is worshipping literal panties or groping random girl's breasts, it just hurts to see no sign of improvement in a character that I try to support and defend. In the first cour or two, yeah, I can understand some lapses in judgment but in season two we don't get any of those inner character shifts where he strives to become better. Moments like Paul's reunion and Rudy's bond with Eris were very beautiful parts of the first and second cour but it seems like most of these moments are just gone in season two. Remember how I said that Rudy has no end goal? Let me tie that back here because, in season two, the world just feels like Rudy's playground. The inspiring story of the shut-in on his way to start fresh in another world is paused so that he can let his degenerate fantasies of old run free with his newfound power in his new world. That sentence alone encapsulates what goes wrong with Mushoku Tensei season two. If you love Mushoku Tensei, you'll most likely love this. If you were skeptical about the first and/or second cour. You might want to steer clear of season two. Final Score: 7/10

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 takes a bold step away from the more traditional harem anime format that characterized its first season. This shift could be a potential deterrent for some viewers who enjoyed the more light-hearted approach of Season 1. As a result, the show may not cater to everyone's taste, and those expecting a continuation of the harem dynamics may find Season 2 less appealing.

The challenge in rating Mushoku Tensei Season 2 lies in its unusual thematic choices. The series demands a certain level of open-mindedness from its audience, as it explores territories not commonly found in mainstream anime. While the writing and character development have clearly evolved, this evolution may not resonate with all viewers, especially those attached to the more familiar elements of the first season.

So i decided to temporary delete my review. Hope that you will remain polite, my opinion stay just my opinion.

If you're too busy to read the whole summary here are two points from my review:
- BAD ANIMATION
- BAD ARC

First of all, please take note that I am a big fan of Mushoku, and therefore I have high expectations.
If you like the season 1 for animation, battle scene, scenario... , I couldn't recommended you to watch this part.

This arc is like a wide pause ... between some interesting arc. An arc focus on a "slice of life/romance" life of Rudeus.
The main plot of this arc is the fact that the MC suffer of an ED and want to find a solution to cure it.
We will just follow Rudeus in a school and how he will find cure to his problem.

I find 2 main points of how i CAN'T recommand this season.
First one, is that the scenario is clearly not interesting. I can't even count how many times i thought "it's boring, there is no action" or "dude that's freaking cringe". The whole season is just going to be a series of misunderstandings and uninteresting subplots.

The only positive point of the season is a single episode where we discover certain elements of the lore.
But in my mind as I had already read this arc, I told myself that even if the arc is bad, one thing can make us swallow this crap:
magnificent animation, beautiful landscapes like we had in season 1.
And here comes my second most important point: animation.
I can't even speak of a downgrade with this king of gap but of a collapse. All the animation magic of season 1 went away.

I had read that many of the animators and the director of the project were recruited by another studio (the studio of uma musume) after season 1, and well after season 2 finished I can easily believe it.
When we see the standards of season 1, we can only be very disappointed.
Why did they agree to make the ONIMAI anime instead of focusing on mushoku? I don't know but we feel that ONIMAI literally stole all the best animators from Mushoku.

We keep a slight hope for the next part, part that they have no right to miss, since it is the best mushoku narrative arc.
Personally I have no hope but we'll see.

The first installment of Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu falls short of expectations. While it maintains visual and animation standards akin to the prior season, it notably reduces the intensity and quantity of its action sequences. Instead, the focus shifts towards exploring interpersonal dynamics and emotions. Although this shift isn't inherently negative, Part 1 unfolds at a noticeably slower pace. Additionally, several of the new characters are introduced to the series through supplementary side content rather than within the primary storyline. Apart from Rudeus’s introspective journey and trauma resolution, the core storyline lacks substantial content, adding to the sluggish pacing of the installment. ... Moreover, Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Part 1 fails to propel the story forward significantly, marking a low point in the overall series.

If you were given a second chance at life, would you take it? For the 34-year-old NEET we know as Rudeus Greyrat, the answer couldn't be more of a resounding yes. However, his new life in a brand new world, as all lives go, is far from perfect. After a triumphant journey around the world and back, he realises that everything about his hometown has changed. His home turned to dust; gleaming golden-brown wheat farms became swathes of barren wasteland; smiles on villagers' faces all wiped away; and adding onto that his companions Eris and Ruijerd leaving his side, Rudeus starts his journey to the ... north of Central Continent dejected as ever.

There is no denying that Mushoku Tensei II lacks the sense of grandeur its predecessors proudly exude, but to accuse it of being inferior would be unfair. The slow start is the perfect continuation for the sombre wake–up call that is season one's ending, it further punches down on Rudeus when he was at his lowest, reinforcing the message that there's no such thing as a life all smooth sailing. The arc immediately following is a timely reminder that the world doesn't revolve around Rudeus: his reunion with Zanoba and Cliff shows us the adventures he had embarked on are not isolated incidents and could carry unintended after-effects; while Sylphiette and Nanahoshi are symbols of that fact that lives lived outside Rudeus' view could be equally as eventful as his own. The stark narrative shift this season from exploration to character drama is no doubt less spectacular, but it puts much needed emphasis on the mundanity and gloom of reality instead of the wonders of an isekai. The result is a grounded tone that creates a sense of authenticity for Mushoku Tensei's world that little isekais could replicate.

Needless to say, the way in which Mushoku Tensei utilises its cast of characters to construct its plot and themes are terrific. However, what really differentiates it from the others is the attention to detail that Rifujin na Magonote pays when crafting its imposing and consistent worldview. The two-cour long exploration in the previous season had left many loose ends to pick up from, and this sequel chose the best ones to follow up on. Roxy's alma mater Ranoa Magic University, teased since the start of the series, is now the stage where the story plays out on. The Eris family drama that Rudeus had deliberately avoided makes an unexpected return through Slyphiette's companions. The unsolved mysteries of Turning Point 1 and 2, overshadowed by their horror and shock value, are radically recontextualised with the reappearance of Nanahoshi. Remembering to call back to a few instances of foreshadowing is light work, I'd argue it's even essential for fantasy epics like this, but it is their interwovenness combined with the seamlessness of how they are shifted from the background into the front stage that makes it so impressive.

And yet, even though the story is so beautiful, this sequel is one of the most disappointing in recent memory. Whether the drop in quality is due to the staff member changes or time constraints is a discussion that I'm not going to delve into. For all that matters, Mushoku Tensei II's production value is far inferior to its predecessor. Characters' faces are often disfigured; the failure to do proper scene changes renders many moments difficult to follow; sakuga is few and far between. These issues are especially prominent in the first arc, and I suspect it's because of the time spent at the attempts at creating the unique-to-each-episode 90 second opening animations.

It is, therefore, such a shame that the new team didn't seem to understand what makes those sequences great in the first place. In season one, they captured the splendour of the landscapes without compromising on the runtime, or delivered on concise exposition without slowing down the pacing to a snail's pace. This often means expanding on the original source material in order to make good use of the advantages of the change in medium (visual storytelling and the concurrence of the image and audio). In contrast, the animation that accompanies the openings of the Counter Arrow arc takes little liberty in diverging from the light novels, and makes no effort in carefully selecting which segments to include. Episode one's internal monologue paired with a flashback was Mushoku Tensei II's best take on the concept, but the opening could have been moved to the start for a view of the northern lands, then pair the ending song with Rudeus' monologue. Episode two's snow clearing scene could have easily been skipped and instead feature more details of the dungeon they were exploring that episode. Episode three's date with Sara put too much focus on the inconsequential actions of the two and missed the opportunity to show more about the city. Episode four's blatant foreshadowing also suffers from the same problem, too much runtime is spent featuring upcoming characters, entirely omitting Rudeus' journey to the University. If you feel that Mushoku Tensei this season feels different and sometimes even flavourless, this is why: their poor execution created a rippling impact on the quality of the show as a whole, not just the sequences themselves.

Given that the new team at Studio Bind couldn't capture the je ne sais quoi of the openings of its predecessor, the decision to cut such sequences was a good call. The show as a whole looked a lot better from the university arc onwards. Nevertheless, it hadn't returned to the high standards that people had come to expect. Still showing up from time to time are the weird portraits and awkward framing, and some dramatic moments fall flat due to the limited amount of sakuga (e.g., the confrontation with Badi). All that is to say, don't expect too much from Mushoku Tensei II's production. Even if (somehow) one comes out of season one limiting their expectations, they won't be impressed in the slightest: judging purely based on animation, season two is only marginally better than your average seasonal anime. It's fortunate that Rudeus' story in the northern countries requires much less spectacle to be entertaining, inadvertently making quality drop-off a little more palatable.

While we are on the topic of flaws, one cannot simply ignore Mushoku Tensei's narrative and thematic troubles. Detractors of this series have long criticised the show's pervasive perversion of the female cast, this time around Rudeus' condonation of slavery, and there's simply little excuse. This is a recurring problem with Mushoku Tensei: morally devious actions/events (as conceived by the modern person) are justified by in-universe explanations and rarely criticised textually or otherwise. Rudeus' abnormal sexual drive and creepy advances are conveniently accommodated by the deeply patriarchal world, and his apathy towards those living in appalling conditions is never questioned. Many say Mushoku Tensei is ultimately a story of a broken man's coming-of-age story, and thus moments like these are required for comparison and contrast. I find that argument disingenuous at best. While later entries could make this theme apparent with time, it doesn't follow that the show must handle such sensitive subjects in a tone deaf way.

In the end, I'm left conflicted. On one hand, Mushoku Tensei II is a disappointing sequel plagued with production issues, equipped with a questionable moral compass, and mired in fans' overexpectations. On the other hand, it is a comparatively decent entry in the over-saturated isekai genre, featuring a carefully crafted world with immense potential and countless engaging mysteries. Chances are, if you are invested in Mushoku Tensei, this season is probably a fine entry that's mildly disappointing; but if you only liked it for its fantastical explorations and startling plot twists, maybe it's time to look elsewhere.

Jobless Reincarnation has so much potential to be a great show. Unfortunately, the writers don't seem to realize that you can have a great story with AMAZING characters without sex being involved as much as it is. I'll try to keep this as spoiler-free as possible for those considering giving it a watch, and I'll try my best to come up with pros to go along with the big cons. *Apologies for the long review, there's just a lot to compliment and complain/warn about. ;-;*

__PROS:__
---STORY/WORLDBUILDING - The concept is awesome. It's the first Isekai I've watched where the MC retains consciousness after complete rebirth and ... is raised from infancy. Even if it's not the first of its kind, the idea itself is still really interesting to me. The worldbuilding is stellar and the fantasy is so well implemented; the world around Rudeus feels alive and constantly changing, and the relationships between characters are often realistically fickle and/or dynamic, even if the characters themselves can sometimes be one-dimensional and incredibly dense. Exotic peoples manage their own governments in diverse lands—it's everything you want for a good world to go along with a good story. The magic and fighting especially are so satisfying to watch and learn about, and the animations for them are beautiful.
---CHARACTERS - Every one of the characters (who are at least mildly important to the story) have their own convictions and reasons to do things, even if the reasons are dull or they themselves are entirely uninteresting. Not every character needs to be completely fleshed out with his own side-story worthy of its a special episode, people! Additionally, each of those at least mildly important characters has such contrasting and unique designs to one another and the girls are beautiful and cute and adorable and the guys are rugged and masculine (for the most part). Despite being a bit predictable, the characters are constantly changing and learning and adapting. Just because they make a choice you don't like doesn't mean it's bad storytelling or the show is bad. They're realistic *because* they're sometimes irrational and do dumb things. Especially Rudeus. And another thing: others already mentioned this, but maybe Rudeus isn't meant to be liked.
---ART/MUSIC/INTRO+OUTRO - First, I want to fanboy over the art style. I fucking love it. Call me a cliche, but I like cute girls in anime. Jobless Reincarnation doesn't disappoint and does an excellent job crafting stunning characters who are pleasant to look at. The backdrops are gorgeous and the cities are beautifully drawn and designed. The trees, the water, the sky; it is so perfect. The music is fine and fits perfectly with their respective scenes. And the intros. THE. INTROS. I LOVE that you can't just skip them. They took the time to make the intro cutscenes worth something instead of being something you can just skip without any loss of context. Seriously, well done.

__CONS:__
---STORY - The first gripe is obviously the sexual deviation. In nearly every episode, the writers have to rub into the viewers' faces that in some form or another, every character either has a sexually predatory nature to them or is a victim to said sexual predators (regrettably including but not limited to underaged individuals) down the line eventually. I'm sure we all came to this realization fairly quickly in Jobless Reincarnation's story as our MC is an unwavering, shameless pervert straight from episode one. PLEASE don't touch Aisha, Norn, Eris, or Sylphie. Leave the characters who have any innocence left alone. Secondly, another big gripe is, well, episode 3 of this season. If you read other reviews, you know why it's bad, and if you haven't, you'll understand if you watch the show. It's such a waste of time and so off-putting that I nearly dropped the show. I'm completely fine with what they did with Eris at the end of the last season, but fuck.
---CHARACTERS - I know I complimented how the characters realistically sometimes make mistakes, but the way it's done is sometimes a detriment to the story and the relatability of the characters. Rudeus is relatable because he lived an awful life and suffers depression, but then you're snapped out of it because the choices he makes are so perplexing sometimes. Now I'm entirely fine with the whole E.D. thing, it's understandable, he's going through heartbreak, but FUCK. A whole fucking episode focused solely on how he's depressed? The writers really fucking fumbled the small Counter Arrow story, and especially fumbled Rudeus and Sara. Not in a shipping way, not at all. It was just so hard to watch, man. Moreover, Elinalise. She's fucking obnoxious. Stop taking every opportunity to show how much of a slut she is. Also, does the main writer have a cuckolding fetish or something? Because man, episode 4 reeked of it.
---THE OBVIOUS - Yes, season 1 was bad with the young characters and the pedophilia subtext and sexual assault, and those disgusting bath scenes in the first few episodes. I can't guarantee it's any better due to how often sex as a subject is brought up, but fortunately, it gets less intense with the wholesome characters and focuses more on the adult side of things, even if Rudeus himself is currently in a young man's body. I really hope it stays that way because season one, as good as it is, was really hard to get through at times.

__TL;DR__
The world is beautifully designed and the story itself is so... fascinating. I don't want to say it's great, but Jobless Reincarnation grabbed my attention in a way I didn't expect. Seeing the reviews on the first season made me wary but I'm glad I gave it a chance, even if it had its really lows.
I can't specifically recommend this show right now because of how hard to watch the content that's currently released is. All I can do is cross my fingers and hope it'll get better. Thanks for reading if you got all the way through!

This season feels like a colossal waste of time. Did we really need to spend an entire 12 episode season on this little detour arc? This feels like something that could have been handled a lot better in a 3-4 episode OVA series.

There are a few good episodes that feel like they are advancing the main story from Season 1 along a little bit, but a vast majority of this season just feels like a massive detour, and it's frustrating because I'd much rather have spent this much time and detail on the adventures that were happening in the Demon Continent from Season 1. ... But instead, that portion of the story mostly gets skimmed over while we have 12 whole episodes devoted to this arc and it just doesn't feel like a satisfying use of time at all.

There better be some major payoff to all of the minor side stories within this season to make it all feel worth it further down the line, because as of right now it just doesn't seem that way at all.

That season is absolutely disappointing. As someone who read the whole LN multiple times I can say that while they're following the story quite well, they are throwing out some of the small but important phrases and jokes so some of the scenes make much less sense and may be confusing. What's even worse, the quality of the show in general dropped drastically compared to the first season(which was amazing, by tha way). It's painful to look at those cheap animations, poorly drawn frames and other stuff after what the've done in the first season. Hope it would change later, because the story itself is ... amazing and I'm really looking forward to it being animated

Season 1 is where you will find all the action great animation and storyline,If you wanna build character with some of the characters and see some romance watch this one,not alot happens you can basically do a 5 min recap to catch up to it

I think if you really enjoy romance animes that end on huge cliffhangers and would leave u happy at the end this season is great 4 u

This story is a perfect story in the right context. There WILL be people upset by the idea that it's a grown man's mind in a boys body or the fact it lacks a lot of action. That is not this story. This story is about coming of age, realizing what it means to love and how to love. It explores sexuality in multiple ways on top of finding ones own purpose.

The concept of being an isekai is not original... though the way this season so far has played out has been BEYOND original. It heavily explores with expectations of ones self and others, hyper-sexualization ... or the thought that you would think that's how you SHOULD be. Understanding relationships and friendships and overall mainly being wholesome. I understand that this is not everyone's type of tea due to the original premise or own morals. Though at the end of the day, the concept of being too mature for ones age while trying to explore their age daunts on them more than not due to having unrealistic expectations that their age group isn't really meant to have yet.

I HEAVILY recommend this season for anyone who wants a more serious and romance based plot to a fantasy world 'I'm the strongest' gimmick. Though if you are mostly for action or one of those "protagonist is a pedo" because of the mental age inside the body then you probably won't like it as much.

It breaks my heart to say that the second season of Mushoku Tensei is a shallow imitator of the first. This does not mean that it was bad, but it certainly pales in comparison to the first season.

Where does the second season fail? Unfortunately it does so in almost every aspect.

- animation quality is stilted
- visually, both scene and character art is downgraded
- the shot angles and panning shots are beyond atrocious
- the pacing is ridiculously slow. Scenes linger, moments are held too long, the story goes nowhere

Fortunately, the worst of the worst is saved for the first 4 episodes (including episode 00). After these ... episodes (which I'd rate as a 5), the show then proceeds to come into its own a bit more. Even the animation gets better, as if different studios worked on the first 4 and last 8 episodes.

The story itself is boring and of little to no consequence until the end of the arc. Nothing happens. You can watch episode 1, 10 , 11, and 12 and effectively skip the rest. A true filler arc.

Hopefully part 2 of the 2nd season will be better.

My reason for giving this anime a "mixed feeling" is because I can not recommend this anime to Everyone.
I personally loved it, but if you expect a fantasy anime then this is not for you.
The story itself isn't really focused on the fantasy setting, and it's more of an "everyday" story set in a fantasy setting.
So if you expect a lot of magic (and for the magic to matter), it might be better to watch other animes.
For everyone else, I can definitely recommend this anime.
Every episode finishes with a cliff hanger that makes you yearn for the next one, and every single episode is fleshed ... out.
If you liked the previous seasons you will definitely enjoy this one too.

I'll say it straight out: Mushoku Tensei is not an anime for everyone.

What may displease (and will displease some) is the perverse side, particularly that of the main character Rudeus Greyrat. But all that makes the anime itself.

I've rarely seen an isekai anime that interpreted social phenomena so well. I remind you, Rudeus was a piece of shit. In his former life, he'd been harassed to the point of not being able to leave his house. He stayed inside, running away from reality. Until he was over 30. He's society's waste product. And we're giving him a second chance. A new life. He's not going ... to turn into a saint overnight.

Mushoku Tensei shows us that we must never give up, that life is worth living. Things won't always go as planned, there will be days when all you can think about is getting it over with (Rudy's been through it plenty of times, and will go through it again (those who've read the manga or the novel know what I'm talking about), but giving up isn't an option.

Mushoku Tensei makes us want to live, even if we make mistakes, even if we're not perfect. Mushoku Tensei show us life!

Best isekai I've seen so far

The story continues with Rudeus (a reincarnated man from another world) as he continues his journey to reunite his family after a mana storm teleported the people of his village.

Rudeus has already found his father and sisters in the previous season. Only people left to find are his mother and childhood friend.

Rudeus is dealing with heartbreak, depression and even suicidal thoughts. But hopefully through his journeys, and through the people he meets, will find the will to press forward.

This season could have been better but ruined by an unnecessary subplot about erectile dysfunction…. Come to think of it thats actually the main plot of season ... 2.
Also a cursed sex addicted elf who always needs to have sex to live.
The anime already has a bad reputation of being sleazy and then this is what the writers do for season 2 (－‸ლ)

And a lot of the adventure aspect is missing since a lot of the story takes place at a magic school and feels like a giant chunk of filler.
I hate when an anime drags its feet. And unfortunately season 2 is guilty of that.

There isnt even any character development to speak of.

Season 2 is worth watching because its being held up by season 1. But on its own season 2 is really nothing.

So season 2 on its own is a 6/10. Season 2 in conjunction with season 1 is 7/10

If you like season 1 then watch season 2. If you didn’t like season 1 im not sure what you’re doing here 🤔

Rudy try to kill himself just after getting slapped is comedy gold....
Good season though it got slower in middle as everything felt like a filler but till the it got better ....feeling like some plot lines were there just to introduce some characters so they could be used in the future..like maou sama or julie they become just npc's maybe in prt2 something will happen...
other than that i don't think everyone will like the middle portion of this season it just feels uninvesting...
it's great to see our mc become normal after harnessing life difficulties gives the last episodes more feeling..
all n all feels like a ... great journey ahead ...

The worst arc is almost over YAY.

Almost no worldbuilding, almost no politics, almost no spectatcle, and still it is satisfying enough if you're invested into the relationship of Rudy and Sylphie.

This season gives off the same vibes as AoT 2nd season. It has a completely different tempo and tone and still it is very important to the story. There's like five big arcs inrtoduced this season. For that alone you should keep watching into season two.

However, I can't recommend it 100%. As I've said, it is pretty boring prologue to the big stories later on. Season one's story was independent enough and could stand ... on it's own merits, and season two relies on big pay-offs much later on.

Artstyle is good, animation and music are decent enough not to catch any unwanted attention.

The first season of Mushoku Tensei took a bunch of overused tropes and made something interesting, new and heartfelt out of them. It's always been a mixed bag with some iffy stuff, and at least half the time this show would explore the problems within those tropes and make something refreshing. This season the scale tipped too far into just using the cliches uncritically, unchanged. A lot of this cour is romcom rubbish in the form of ongoing miscommunication that doesn't have any thematic point beyond just delaying the romance and not really developing it. Where is the show that could make a reunion between ... a father and son the most moving and enthralling part of an isekai show full of magic? That delicate hand is still sometimes there, just not enough.

The intros in the first season being different each episode, with characters exploring their locations, is sorely missed here because that sense of a really lived in world that the first season was jam-packed with is really lacking this season so far. It could be due to a change in staff inbetween seasons.

Oh and the handling of slavery was pretty gross--I know Rudy is a very flawed character but, dude. Same with the kidnapping and assault stuff that is just played for laughs--it's jarring in a show that at least takes Rudy's traumas seriously.

Overall the writing felt more rushed and in general the quality was a bit worse. I'm hoping things improve next cour so the show can live up to the high expectations that were set with the uncommonly good first season.

Far too many glazers for this show man. Mushoku Tensei is hailed as some masterful work of deep character writing and worldbuilding, and I can absolutely see where those people come from. What I can't see where these people are coming from is a proper justification for why Rudeus is the way Rudeus is. Don't get me wrong, I thought season 1 (especially part II) was pretty great, Ruijerd was a delight every time he was on screen and Eris was also ... amazing (as well as all the other stuff).

The main thing that held [part II] it back from being a 10 is Rudeus' creepy behavior throughout it. Sure it *could* be justified by saying that he never really matured as a person in his previous life and that he shows proof of being a good person and wanting to improve himself, but his inner monologue just always takes me out of it whenever something nice is going on. That creepy inner monologue minimizes a lot of the good things that Rudeus does (at least in the perspective of the viewer), and his pedo behavior is magnified heavily in this season. There's a higher density of these sexual moments, that with the added context of age dynamics and age gaps just leaves something that I cant "look past" and see the good in.

The sweet, slice of lifey vibe that the Magic School Arc hosts that I would eat the fuck up on any other anime is just always left with a musty, unpleasant tinge at the back that sours whatever good may be in this arc/season. Overall, to sum it up: I apologize to MT glazers for not having enough cognitave dissonance to enjoy S2, Cour I, but I'll watch cour II as I've heard fans say that will be far better. It better be.

By far the worst season of Mushoku Tensei. This season grapples with a lack of a cohesive narrative direction, particularly noticeable during the initial five episodes and with later episodes with pacing. Plus, it seems like the earlier seasons' charm is somewhat missing, with more talk & less action, not to mention Rudeus doesn't show as much growth, both in terms of maturity and character development.

Critique and explanation of MT Season 2's mediocrity:
Quick TLDR (for those in a hurry)- Introduction to the season took too long. The plot feels rushed for Fitz. Rudeus gains almost no character this season besides "ED" and a wish for ... learning "the teleportation incident", and a late relationship change with Fitz. The early arc of the season could've been condensed into half as many episodes, allowing for better pacing in the latter part of the season.

1. Sara had no shot because of plot reasons, and honestly, she's just a throwaway character there to highlight Rudeus's "ED." The same goes for most of the starting season characters.

2. The first few episodes could've been way shorter because all they really did was show that Rudy has "ED" and a bit of character growth. Two episodes could've covered it instead of dragging it out for over four episodes before getting to the University arc.

3. Fitz/Sylphiette's character arc is just okay. It's not terrible, but it needed more time to properly develop Rudeus's relationship with Sylphie/Fitz.

4. The dialogue this season feels less meaningful. It's pretty clear that the writers struggled to craft a compelling arc for Fitz because a lot of the conversations between them don't contribute much to Fitz's character development. It feels forced for the pacing to be this slow, or maybe the studio just couldn't achieve the development they aimed for in the span of 12 episodes.

5. The side characters this season are just not as interesting. When you stack them up against someone like Ruijerd from previous seasons, it's clear there's a big gap in terms of character development and how enjoyable they are to watch on screen.


Lastly, Mushoku Tensei should have 24-episode seasons instead of splitting it all up. Having 24 episode seasons would most definitely help the pacing a lot, since the studio can get 3 unrushed arcs completed in that time instead of trying to push 1 major and 1 minor arc into 12 episodes (Plus less waiting between seasons & parts).

Still a really decent watch for the season, just not as good as previous MT seasons/parts.
7/10, could be better.

After the brilliant first season, which I enjoyed more than anything that has come out in recent years, my expectations for this were brutally shattered by the nonsensical mess I witnessed. Watching this part of the season felt like riding a rollercoaster (don't you just love it when your favorite shows slowly get fragmented into parts? I'm just thrilled. Will we get a Part 3 of the Final season here too, in let's say, 10 or 15 years?). The first three episodes felt like a long, slow, and rather dull build-up to a potentially good start for a classic Mushoku Tensei magic adventure character-driven story. ... But no. The ride went up and stayed up... without the frantic and exciting fall ever coming. The stagnant plot turned this season into a completely different anime from what we had seen before.
I have to admit that I still enjoyed it because I like the characters and the world, but the sheer disappointment after a few episodes, when I realized there weren't enough episodes left to actually see some of what the previous season showed, just made me sink into despair (of course, not really, it's just anime... but this was truly my most anticipated show this year).

As a fan of anime slyce of life with romance, this was somewhat entertaining, but it's not what I came here to see, and it's not even a good quality one. The entire season revolves heavily around just a two topics, erectile disfunction and the fact that Sylphy is in fact Sylphy, and their development and conclusion all come at once, right at the end... not even in a nice progression.

Many small subplots are introduced, but none really adds much to the story, and most are either abruptly ended or simply forgotten. The cast of characters around the protagonist ranges from mildly interesting to "who was this guy again? Do I actually have to care?" It's a painful contrast to what we found in the previous season... I haven't read the manga, but I assume they just animated what was there... I doubt that the manga was actually good and the studio said, "Nah, let's do something stupid and uninteresting instead."

General plot issues are pushed aside, treated as secondary stuff the protagonist deals with when he's done with all the unimportant crap he's doing throughout this season. It's as if this entire season was just one of those unimportant moments from the first season, but stretched out over 12 episodes...

My only hope is that the manga lives up to the promising beginning further in the story, and as a result, the future anime adaptation does too. I still want to believe in this show, but it was a tough blow.
