What if the series The Boys met Power Rangers, the anime.

While of course, both are different in their own right, but in terms of the context of it's plotline. There are similarities between them. Which only makes for a more interesting concept. Think of that love one from a few seasons ago. That alone will bring more attention to this show. More eyes on a product, is simply better. As if this was a cookie cutter hero show, it'd be good sure. But it'd be too basic to really stand out. But with the concept that this has, it'll stand out a lot more than ... normal.

Story and characters: 8
As explained on what the show is. It does a great job in really making it. Because lets think for a moment. We all worship heroes, we all get caught in the moment. But have we ever thought about 'whats UNDER the mask' To us, they're heroes and villains. But to them, they could be more then that. Each side plays a role. But under that role, there is a legit person, with legit thoughts and feelings. Even if it's not all black and white. Where you can have good intentions, or bad intentions. But it's quite clear, that everything is not as it seems, and how everything will unfold, will be the main interest and driving point with this show.

Because lets face it. What if some of the 'so called' bad guys, were actually nice? Or even if they have evil intentions still, they'd want to stop a bigger evil, even if it goes along with their evil means? The same can be said on the other side. What if the 'so called' good guys, were actually egotistical assholes? There is a lot to play with the hero genre, and this, is an interesting take on it for sure.

Art and sound: 7
Fit for purpose, but also quite flashy. What I really love about it in parts though, is how unnerving it is in parts. Like, they're supposed to be heroes, but the way they're presented behind the scenes. You'd think they're villains already from that alone. While the so called bad guys, look like they've been taken from some random location, as if they're not more than wimps that these 'heroes' are picking on. The art style can really make you feel sorry for them, even if some are more likely still evil themselves. It really draws the line there. To go with a great sound design behind all that, and you've got a well put together anime.

Loser ranger definitely deserves more attention for your liking. Providing a neat idea, with an interesting concept. One to enjoy for sure.

Go Go Loser Ranger (also known as Ranger Reject) is basically Super Sentai meets The Boys. It's very unique for its genre and the first 3 episodes have been very entertaining so far. Keep in mind I have not read the manga for this, so I have no idea what's to come.

Basically, the "monsters" started invading earth 13 years ago and the Divine Dragon Keepers need to put an end to them. Eventually, the monsters got handled and they were forced to bring out one per week so that the Dragon Keepers could defeat them in front of a large crowd. One monster (our MC) ... is sick and tired of putting up with this charade, so he decides that he will take down the Dragon Keepers from the inside. This is the premise.

I find this concept to be quite interesting as the audience has no idea what's going on, and as the monsters have had to put up with this farce for over a decade, it would make sense that some of them would be tired of it and would want to rebel against their opressors.

Characters: The cast of Go Go Loser Ranger is quite enjoyable. Seeing the perspective of the "bad guy" for once and actually rooting for the villain (MC) to win is a lot of fun, because before I watched the show, I thought the MCs would be the Dragon Keepers, however they are simply supporting characters. Additionally, Yumeko Suzukiri and Hibiki Sakurama are enjoyable characters, even though we don't know much about them yet. Their dynamics and interactions with the MC are a lot of fun, and you call already tell they are multi-layered characters.

Sound: The sound in this anime is great, From the insert songs mid fight, to the sound effects and voice acting, Go Go Loser Ranger! has really gotten this right. The VA cast is quite stacked too. Yuusuke Kobayashi is voicing Fighter D, Yuuichi Nakamura voices Red Keeper, Kensho Ono voices Yellow Keeper, and Kousuke Toriumi voices Green Keeper.

Animation: The animation on this show is very good. Yostar pictures are a studio known for doing gacha-game adaptations, so when I saw them on a big project like this one, where the manga is very beloved and well known, I was a little skeptical. However, once I saw the trailer as well as ep 1, my concerns were immedietaly lifted. The animation is fluid and crisp. Character art is great. There is actually some cgi used here and there, but it's blended very well with 2D and is barely noticeable imo.

OP and ED:

Probably the weakest (and arguably least important) part of the show. The op is performed by Tatsuya Kitani, and while it certainly isn't his best work, it's not bad by any means. The visuals are fun and the song is upbeat. I'll probably start skipping it from this point on, but it fits the vibe of the show well.

The ED is pretty catchy, but not really my type of song. The visuals on it are fully cgi and it looks a little jank at times but nothing terrible.

Overall, Go Go Loser Ranger! is a very entertaining show with a unique and fresh take on the Super Sentai genre. It's also a very easy show to recommend to others as it appeals to a wider audience and anyone can have a fun time watching it.

This review will assume you have at least read the synopsis.

When I first saw the PV's for this I remember thinking, "A darker twist on the power rangers I grew up watching? I'm in." It genuinely has so far lived up perfectly to the expectation. The apparent motivations and reasoning for how we ended up in our current predicament are weird at first, but the story does a great job at presenting and setting up a number of mysteries right off the bat such as, "Why are the dragon keepers so strong?" and "What actually are the divine artifacts?" which gives me hope that ... much will be later revealed about what exactly happened during the invasion of Earth.

So far I really love the characters. Our MC Monster Fighter "D" is very one dimensional so far: he despises humanity and wants to defeat the rangers. There isn't much backstory beyond that as of writing, and he really just gives off a cynical anger and disgust towards everything. The only time he's smiling is when he says something mean or is getting his revenge. HOWEVER, his character is presented in a very compelling manner: He has lost 999 times in a row and he just wants to win just one single time by any means necessary. He's a true underdog with impossible odds who says 'enough is enough' and chooses to put his life on the line so he can finally win. Additionally, any anime that doesn't feature the tired trope of giving our MC a tragic backstory that quickly overstays its welcome is worthy of applause. My appreciation for not bogging it down with a bunch of formulaic melodrama is immeasurable; not every shonen protagonist needs a dead mom and a past of being bullied that spans the entire runtime of one of the first three episodes. Bravo!

Suzukiri, the blonde junior ranger who chooses to help D, stands out the most among the main cast. She is like a less creepy Makima from Chainsaw Man, so she's very expressionless, intimidating and domineering. The dynamic between her and D is very fun so far and I'm excited to see the inevitable memes in the future. The salmon hair male junior ranger seems very cookie-cutter-good-guy at first but is revealed to have an interesting character twist that hints at him playing a major role in the story. Lastly, of all the dragon keepers we've seen the most of Red, AKA Akabane Sousei, and there's a lot of mystery surrounding this guy. At the same time, there's no mistaking that he is purely vain. Everything is for the camera and there's nothing righteous about him, but as I mentioned before he also has superhuman strength, so he's a very formidable antagonist.

I am very excited to see how the story develops because the characters are really riding on it. If not enough gets revealed, it gets too complicated, or the cast gets too big then I could see this story getting really bogged down. Another problem they set themselves up for is making all the monster fighters look basically identical. Its difficult to follow when you have an ensemble of dozens of clones with different voices whose names are letters of the alphabet. I don't know if they plan to give them more individual development or just relegating their screen time to being more of an ensemble of comic relief "minions" type characters.

This is a story that so far feels like it should be 12-24 episodes total, and I have no faith that it could support over 50 episodes, yet the manga has gone past that and is still ongoing. However, I'm absolutely blown away by how much I've been enjoying this so far, so maybe that's no big deal, but I am a bit worried that the story is going to end up in a purgatory of no real plot progression. There was a massive twist at the end of episode 3 (but its not really a twist since the synopsis tells you what happens), so its just too early to really tell where things are headed.

I also just want to say that the OP is in the running for best OP of Spring 2024 and the ED is very fun too. When I checked the studio that was making this I was shocked I had never heard of them, but more shockingly I had never seen or heard of any anime they had previously worked on as it appears that they have only ever made anime that are tie-ins for mobile gacha games?? Either way, I'm absolutely LOVING the animation and fights. If you told me this was A-1, Cloverworks or Wit studio I'd have believed you. I haven't seen their other works so I have nothing to compare this to, but that makes me more surprised by how unpopular the other anime they have produced are (assuming its of similar quality).

I definitely recommend giving this one a watch. Is this the top sleeper hit of this season? Probably.
