Anime 565 Steamboy Userrecs

Very similar characters in both movies and both have large scoped settings 

Both are movies of the Punk genre, Akira is Cyberpunk and Steamboy is Steampunk. They also share a large amount of their staff including Katsuhiro Otomo as director and original creator. Mentionable is Steamboy's production cost of over $20 million making it one of the most expensive Japanese animation movies to date which is reflected in its top-notch quality at the time of release. 

Directed by the same director Steamboy is basically Steampunk Akira 

Both are rare and good samples of steampunk anime, which should be checked by fans of the genre. Their stories are far from their most powerful card, and in fact feel generic, and these movies also flat as far as messages and characterization are concerned. But, they are easily among the most beautiful of their time, and hold up to this day, Steamboy in particular. Great direction and their aesthetic is rich and detailed. They are also well-rounded movies, and can be easily accessible even to people who do not watch anime. 

Both have a young boy as the main protagonist, and both have a lot of steampunk style technology. 

Shisha no Teikoku and Steamboy are both set in an industrial/steampunk era. The type of story development is quite different, but both have a similar vibe to the setting which is pretty unique to these two movies.  

Both involve the industrial revolution and the ideas of using inventions for good and bad, or even personal wants.  

I just watched Steamboy, and it reminded me of Metropolis, which I've seen years ago, before I even knew the term "anime". Now when I think about it, there are many similarities, such as the technical environment, large-scale scenes and mad scientists. School-age boy and a girl are present in both films as main characters. 

Steamboy is set in a fantasy universe of steam and interesting machines similar to what you will discover in last exile. If last exiles subtle fantasy elements and grand steampunk universe was entreating to you, you would love Steamboy. 

Both are placed in alternate history sometime around victorian era in Britain. Both are heavily influenced by steampunk genre. Both are more serious series and deal with military and politics, although Princess Principal more so than Steamboy. 

Both take place around the same time and have varied steam-punk elements. They are also both very good.
