Synopsis

Ishiyama High is a school populated entirely by delinquents, where nonstop violence and lawlessness are the norm. However, there is one universally acknowledged rule—don't cross first year student Tatsumi Oga, Ishiyama's most vicious fighter.

One day, Oga is by a riverbed when he encounters a man floating down the river. After being retrieved by Oga, the man splits down the middle to reveal a baby, which crawls onto Oga's back and immediately forms an attachment to him. Though he doesn't know it yet, this baby is named Kaiser de Emperana Beelzebub IV, or "Baby Beel" for short—the son of the Demon Lord!

As if finding the future Lord of the Underworld isn't enough, Oga is also confronted by Hildegard, Beel's demon maid. Together they attempt to raise Baby Beel—although surrounded by juvenile delinquents and demonic powers, the two of them may be in for more of a challenge than they can imagine.

Beelzebub is a situational comedy anime. It's strong point is its straight-faced silliness and, imo, the cuteness of the main character, Baby Beel. If you come in expecting a grand journey or a serious anime, you will be disappointed.

This may be a personal thing, but I think the original voice acting work for Baby Beel is adorably hilarious, and definitely adds to my rating. If they use different audio for Baby Beel in dubbed versions of the show, then I implore you to watch the subbed version. (always, but especially in this case)

There are a couple things ...

BORING

An interesting concept for an anime, but where nothing happens. Its an anime about nothing. But its no Seinfeld.
Its a good concept: A very strong high-school delinquent is chosen to raise the future demon overlord.

But every episode feels like filler. Every episode feels the same. And the story just drags on. The characters wont shut the fck up and just get to the point.
Everything is exaggerated. Its a bunch of exaggerated faces, and exaggerated emotions, and exaggerated shyness.

The characters are always screaming its so obnoxious. Listening to this anime is a pain on my ears.

And the worse thing about this anime is the lack of ...

Beelzebub is a slapstick comedy around teenage delinquents and a baby which will become the demon lord when it grows up. The story is by far the weakest part as it is aimless. Nothing is going on in terms of on-going plot and all conflicts are solved easily and superficially. It gets even worse when you get a man like Takamoto Nobuhiro to direct it. His roster is nothing but a long line of pitiful titles (with the exception of Record of Lodoss War, which is rather watchable just for the kitch factor).

Production values are average to good, albeit worse than the artwork in the ...
