He was given the name "Chuchin" (spider pillow); an anecdote claims that his overzealous studying resulted in spider webs forming on his pillow, thus the origin of his nickname. His formal personal name is Shintatsu.
Chuchin has been studying at the Daigaku in En for over eight years, but eventually gives up the dream of becoming a government offical because of how many times he failed the exam for a certificate and gives all his books to Rakushun. He has a wife and child, which likely contributed to his decision to finally quit studying in order to support them.
