Manga 102278 Shinju No Nectar

I got recommened this series by a guild member. I will admit, I did not like this series at first, but as I read on, it got so much better. I thought it would be a shameless ecchi manga having fanservice just for the sake of it, but the mystery, plot twists, action and political conflicts are what actually kept me reading.

I only started to enjoy the series at Chapter 13.

Story: 8
The story is set in a fantasy world that is basically going through the industrial revolution. The Kingdom of Albion, an elven kingdom, is at war with the Dhala Empire, an empire of ... dark elves, over expansion and colonization of the world. The Kingdom of Albion is basically the good guys, while the converse is true for the other.

Kai, a modern Japanese boy, got isekai-d into this world. He was summoned by Sakura, a princess of the fallen Adarl Kingdom, as Sakura's power required a human (which is considered a rare race) to fully utilize it. While Kai is inept in combat without the aforementioned powers, he is able to use his knowledge from the modern world and act as a strategist, while also bringing modern technology to this world through his knowledge. This quickly earns him the title of a major, all while he gets embroiled between the conflict of the kingdom and the empire.

Art: 10
The artist is talented in drawing tiddies, so the art gets a 10 lmao.
The action scenes are also well drawn as well, as they are hype as hell. (I am a big fan of armour / transformations like in Akame ga Kill and Mato Slave)

Characters: 8
I did not like Kai at first, as he was basically a wimp that is a total pushover. However, when push comes to shove, he was able to steel himself and continue to grow from there in later chapters. Yes, he basically keeps pulling deus ex machinas everywhere (to the point where it could be a running gag lol), but I still found it beareable.

The early chapter's characters seem extremely shallow, but the characters introduced later in the series start to get more complex. Most of the important characters have their own hidden goals or secrets. Some characters start to overcome their own shortcomings, past or trauma. In my opinion, this gives the characters enough depth to make them interesting and for us to care about.

Enjoyment: 10
While the fanservice and ecchi are not the main focus of the series, it's there and it's good LOL
The plot is interesting enough to grab my attention and give me an enjoyable adventure.

This series is good if you can get past the initial few chapters. It is a bit text heavy with a lot of exposition, but it was still an enjoyable journey for me.

This manga is weird.

On one hand, you've got great world building with a magic-vs-science theme in a fantasy world undergoing industrial revolution. There's adventure, there's politics, there's a interesting storyline where the protagonist has to pretend to be someone else. He fights his own insecurities and struggles to live up to his a fake identity, so despite him gaining immense power, it doesn't feel like your usual isekai power fantasy at all.

On the other, said protagonist literally powers up by sucking on dem tiddies. Yep.

I honestly don't know what to make of this: it's like the author wrote a genuinely good story, and then tacked ... on the fanservice just because. Hey, I've got nothing against tits, so I'll happily read it - but the manga could've been something, and now it's just another trashy isekai.

Alright, first thing first - it is an extremely ecchi title, adults only. That's the cue for those under 18 to excuse themselves.

Alright. This work is done by the author of Seikon no Qwaser. And it has the same feitsh. That's the cue for people who didn't like seikon no qwaser to excuse themselves. Same fetish means breasts and breast sucking. I'm not sure why the hell the author is into this, but that's how it is. It'll happen. A lot.

The interesting thing is that the manga has interesting thing going in its art (it has a nice style with heavy use of ... black), and in the world (there's lore, and it is interesting), but "boob powerup" gets into your way, all the time. Interestingly there isn't actual sex in it, as far as I remember.

Breakdown.

Story: 5/10: It looks like there are some interesting details about the world, like magic history, races, there are conspiracies, plots and so on, but the "boob powerup" gets in the way and detracts from both the story and art.

Art: 6/10: Surprisingly well done, and the style is heavy on use of black ink, which gives it more dynamic look. One work that is somewhat simialr was.... "Tensei shitara Dragon no Tamago datta". Except "dragon no tamago" took the style even further to the point where it was just ink with little outlines.

Character: 3/10 - eh, character? Half of heroes and heroiens are there to fill in some stereotype, and while they can be nice to look at, they are very predictable and stereotypical.

Enjoyment: 5/10 - It was a "Meh". Art was nice, story was messy, ecchi concentrated on a very specific fetish. I got bored and dropped it.

Overall: 4/10 - Proceed at your own risk. I liked the visuals, but the work would've been better if someone steered the artist and script writer away from the fetish they were so fascinated with. If you watched or read Qwaser, however, you'll have rough idea of what you're getting into.
