So as a prequel to Jujutsu Kaisen I think this works really well. Coming from someone who read the actual manga before this it was nice to see some more background for characters like Maki, Inumaki, Panda, and Gojo. I was a huge fan of Inumaki already because of his cursed speech but I really liked the characterization that we got in these few chapters. A character that usually only speaks in rice ball ingredients is obviously difficult but they do a great job of giving him depth despite that. I really like Yuuta's character and I think he could end up playing a big ... role in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. I'm so excited for them to incorporate Yuuta into the manga whenever that may be.

As a prequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, this manga does everything it needs to and nothing really more. While not incredibly engaging it delivers a small mini-arc that is all together serviceable and enjoyable. The art is similar in quality to the main manga, that is to say not entirely impressive, but quirky in its own way.

The characters within the piece are enjoyable enough, though the over powered teacher figure feels slightly bland compared to his decently diverse students. The manga follows pretty standard character archetypes from shonen manga of the past. What comes most to mind is Bleach in how the villain and the ... monsters are stylized as. Though I did get an odd feeling of Gantz on occasion that wasn't all together unwelcome.

While the story wasn't the most engaging it could have been. I came out of it feeling satisfied I knew more knowledge that could be helpful when reading the main series.

Despite that fact that this prequel to Jujutsu Kaisen is only 4 chapters long I think that Akutami Gege was able to do just enough to both introduce the reader to the world of JJK and entice them into wanting to read more.

Having already read a good few chapters of JJK I had already been introduced to Maki, Panda and Toge, but it was great to get to spend more time with them as actual main characters. I found Toge to be especially entertaining for me - though maybe that's because I absolutely love his curse words ability. But the stand-out from the cast for ... me was easily Yuta Okkotsu, a lonely, bullied boy who just wants to feel like he has the right to live.I'm not going to spoil it but seeing his development in the last chapter was so fun to read and I can't wait to see him again in the main JJK manga

The story itself is mostly about yuta, as he must go to the Tokyo Jujutsu school because he is a Special Grade Cursed Human who's haunted by a powerful vengeful spirit.I found the story to be enjoyable but nothing to go crazy over. In fact there's not really much to even talk about when its comes tothe plot.

The main appeal for me was Geges fantastic artwork, seeing the creative cursed techniques of the characters and of course getting to see more of the JJK world - as short as it was. So if that's what you're looking for you should defiantly give this short on-shot a read.

For a prequel to Jujutsu Kaisen, it's very pleasant to read. There's nothing equal to the manga itself, but we had a lot of information that is totally important to understand the story between Gojou and Getou.

The story remains simple but very fortunate in terms of storytelling and captivate the readers by the art and development of the characters. The characters, with the exception of Okkotsu Yuuta, are already known by the readers and watchers of Jujutsu. We still had a little difference between then in terms of personality, but nothing that would made a roundabout of the characters without explanation. I truly recommend ... this before the chapter 74 from Jujutsu Kaisen, which is the start of a great arc and an important one.

I was nearing the end of the anime when I decided to pick up the manga. I was surprised to see that there was a prequel, and even more surprised to see that it was centered around the character of Yuta Okkotsu.

Yuta's story in this prequel beautifully mirrors that of Yuuji's in the main manga.
Both boys are thrust into the world of jujutsu sorcerers and forced to figure out how they want to live their lives within their new circumstances. The difference here is that while Yuuji is positive and bold, Yuta is more soft-spoken and has a much more pessimistic worldview (with the ... hopes to become stronger).

This short prequel gives us a compelling first glimpse into the world of Jujutsu High while also introducing us to the main story's antagonist as well as the other second-years at the school.

I personally love Yuta's character and I find him and his backstory pretty compelling. His interactions with the other second-years were pretty wholesome and gave a lot of context to the conversations the second-years have about him later in the series.

The artwork was beautiful, the action was exciting, and I really enjoyed the read. Yuta's story becomes really relevant to the series, so it is a great place to start if you are interested in reading the manga.

It's alright for a one shot.

Maki and Inumaki aren't used the best as side characters.

Yuuta is a meh protagonist and is sometimes he's annoyingly overpowered.

There isn't much of a well constructed plot but what do you expect for a one shot?

The art is fine but I much prefer Gege's new art style over his old one.

... The fights are meh, they aren't choreographed in any way.

It doesn't waste any time in going through the arc of Yuta from discovering his powers as a jujutsu sorcerer to fully testing his abilities by the end. It's a good time all around. I watched the anime and this is my start into the manga, and honestly it's nice to get a good refresh on some of the basic terms of the world that hadn't fully sunk in yet given the pace of the show. With that said, this does feel like recreating the main dynamic of the main manga with the "second-year" students as opposed to the new first-years. Maki and Toge got ... more time to shine and really played off the more nervous and unsure personality of Yuta well. Toge got quite a few details even for being a guy who's vocabulary is limited to rice ball ingredients, like his throat medicine, and that his mouth will even bleed if used too much. Gojo just is who he is, even in this version, and I liked Geto's little twisted view of the world, especially interesting since he was a student at the school too. I like the look of the art, it's reads easily, expressive, and Gege is great at pulling off the balance of serious and silly without either feeling like too much. Yuta's story is nice, if a bit questionable when considering his ending, but given his absence in the class in the main manga, I'm sure he'll have had his reasons.

For a four-chapter one-shot, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 does what it needs to do.

This may sound like limited praise, but it isn't. It establishes the "original" first years and their relationships with each other, introduces Gojo and Geto, and also paints a brief picture of the world that the Jujutsu Kaisen inhabits.

The plotting can feel a little bit clunky due to the page constraints; especially during the latter two chapters where most of the fighting is omitted or condensed to as few panels as possible. But this can work ... in the wider series' favour as it doesn't potentially spoil any of the action that comes later.

The characters, while not exactly the same as we see them in the rest of Jujutsu Kaisen, definitely contain a glimmer of who they end up being. Most importantly, it sets up Yuta; establishing who he is as a character, what his priorities are, and the lengths he is willing to go. While the other students, especially Panda and Maki, tend to take a back seat in this story; Jujutsu Kaisen 0 establishes enough about them as characters to make you care about them.

Perhaps this one-shot's weakest area is the art. In places, it can feel a little cluttered and compact; something that Akutami improves on in their later work. This doesn't mean that it is bad, far from it. It carries and conveys the tone of the story well, but the artwork definitely improves over time. Unfortunately, a four-chapter story doesn't allow for this stylistic growth, but that isn't the fault of the artist.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 works best as a prequel, establishing the world and characters without playing all its cards at once. This, in turn, means that there are enough loose threads at the end of this short to make the following series an even more intriguing read.

I just came from finishing the first three volumes of Jujutsu. I didn't like them, aint gon lie. But this short volumen was pretty nice compared to those three, even if it felt flat and rush at the end.

The MC has a decent characterization (much better than freaking Itadori) but the short length of the volumen prevents it from developing well. Like, at the end MC managed to come to terms with all the traumatic events he experienced and gets overpowered as heck without a good justification. And saying "because Rika" is a weak reason, she's just an OP plot device with no limitations" (kinda ... reminds me of Tanjiro's sister; same concept, same problem).

Even the antagonist didnt felt right to me. But again it's due to the length of the volumen. It's a one shot after all.

I'll say that the best element of the volumen is the worldbuilding, that's why i'd recommend this to anyone that wants to start Jujutsu. The volume lacks of conflict but is full of cool ideas and concepts like the curse words, the three big clans, the animated puppets. It managed to introduced me to all of those things in like two or three chapters and a very good exposition, not like the main series where there is constant infodumps of how things work.

So yeah, as a one shot i'll recommend it totally.
