Manga 123602 Kakkou No Iinazuke Reviews

I am up to date to chapter 39. There will likely be 'spoilers' for what little plot there is.

The art in this series is fantastic. Its very pleasing and there are constant hilarious profile picture- worthy expressions and faces from a myriad of different characters.

The premise is odd but creative and original. Two babies- a boy and girl- are switched at birth, and suddenly at age 16 they are arranged to be married. The boy, whose birth father is a billionare hotel tycoon, grows up dirt poor instead. And the girl, whose birth father is a unemployed cook, grows up with the tycoon ... and becomes a social medial influencer and overall spoiled brat.

However the characters are where it goes wrong.

I dont beleive for a second that any of the 3 main girls in the harem like the MC, Nagi, for his value as a human being. All 3 are extremely toxic in their own ways and it leads me almost feeling bad for the main character of a harem which is not at all supposed to happen.

The worst offender by far is Segawa, the girl Nagi has been crushing on since the beginning of the school year. She likes boys that are smarter then her so he devotes his life to grades to win her affection (and to also get his family out of poverty). He gets #2 in total grades for forever, until he gets #1 once and decides to finally confess. SHe denies him, saying thats because she works at a miko in a shrine and cant marry him. However despite this she keeps deliberately stringing him along as a 'rival', basically treating him as a toy/dog whose only purpose is her own amusement/ motivation to succeed. She says she enjoys his company but not ONCE in the 39 chapters has she had any interaction with him that isnt using him. SHe invited him on a date, but it was to just get a discount. She went with them to a study retreat, only to tease him. She invited him to hangout before school, only to just study, and immediantly invites Erika (his fiancee) whom shes completely enamored with. And through all this Nagi keeps on trying and trying and she keeps on feeding this poor sap scraps that he eats up without realising that she doesent give a shit about him. Thing is, im not sure if this is how i should think. I think shes meant to be portrayed as an uber-driven competetive study freak whose driven and focuses on school, but instead she just seems like a ice-hearted witch woman who treats others as footstools. it doesen't help that she is repeatedly emphasized to be good at literally everything, including sports, socialization, school, and being a perfect good little girl raising her family shrine. She seems like a mary sue, a corrupted one at that. Its obvious she is never going to win and that is a good thing.

Erika, as many rich spoiled millionare blonde attractive teenage girls (sorry if that makes me sound like an incel but am i truly wrong?) is extremely spoiled and frequently voices that in almost any chapter, refusing to eat 'poor food', demanding Nagi cook for her (which he does since hes a simp), constantly incessantly distracting Nagi from studying just to entertain her, etc. This is one of the most forced ships ive seen in a while, they only have around 2-3 scenes of naturally enjoying eachothers company, and many of them already seem kinda iffy in how 'real' and genuine they are, but we are constantly told by other characters how 'perfect' they are together, how amazing of a combination they are. Nagi could whip out a belt and commit domestic violence, and segawa could see that and still blush and say 'Wow, what an amazing couple...'. No they aren't, they dont particularly mesh well nor get along at all. They dont have very much chemistry in the slightest and i dont buy that Erika wants to live the rest of her life with nagi or even wants him to be her one and only companion. Shes just jealous and entitled. While its not as outright toxic and inappropiate like Segawa, it still has a feeling of unnaturality and complete forced-ness

Next is Sachi, Nagi's little sister. Thats all i need to say to say how inappropiate that is. Sachi grew up with Nagi from the day they were born and the SECOND sachi learns nagi isnt related to her she begins to want him. The author keeps on pushing her as a valid member of Nagi's shitshow of a 'harem', but she REALLY shouldnt be. Until like chapter 20 nagi still saw her as a child sister, like anybody with a working brain, and likely still does. Sachi hasnt really given any reason she loves Nagi so much despite being her family member. Its even said she constantly shit talks him at school and even directly shit talks him to his face.

This entire manga is one dudes life being thrown upside down, being dragged to do thigns he doesent want to do by his siter or erika, or being emotionally manipulated by Segawa. Despite the rare, but great, moments of fluff and the great art, this harem is too fundamentally broken to be enjoyable escapism. I dont have a siscon fetish so i dont want to date my sister so i dont want to escape into Nagi to date Sachi. I dont like spoiled brat millionares who get everything on a silver plate, so i dont want to escape into Nagi to date Erika. And i dont like perfect mary sue women who do nothing but string me along like a dead pig so i dont want to escape into Nagi to date Segawa either.

this is my first review so Let's go by parts.

ART: the art for the backgrounds is really good with stunning attention to details and great lighting, and the art for the characters is also great with a distinct round look and unique expressions for every character and recognizable silhouettes, BUT there's a huge problem, the background and the characters don't mix, they look too different too fell like they are from the same world, a simple way to fix that is to make the backgrounds more cartoony (that would fit the manga more) or to make the characters more realistic.
conclusion: background art 8/10 Character ... art:8/10 total 7/10

story: even if I am enjoying the story for now it's still "a been there done that" type of harem that makes it very obvious which girl is gonna win by the start so probably the anding will suck 6/10

Character: all the characters are well-done versions of their tropes (except for Sagawa-san she's unique and I love her) and have great interactions with each other(the comedy is the best part of the manga for me but that's subjective) 7/10

Enjoyment: I had fun 8/10

Overall: it's good manga but noting special that will probably have an unsatisfactory and predictable ending 7/10

edit: this story has gone downhill, it still doesn't even have ANY character development nor does it feel like the series has progressed in any way, even though it teases story development all the time before pulling back (which is really annoying), this had potential to be an entertaining manga (because the start was ) but the absurdly slow passing (even for herem manga) dragged it down, tl;dr: I don't recommend it anymore, it's a 4/10 at best for me now, which honestly just makes me sad :(

(the reason I decided to keep this review up is that I honestly think my reaction to the series is a good representation of the experience of many people so it serves as a nice time capsule)

10 For the art, I really love Miki Yoshikawa character design I feel nostalgic every time I read the manga. The background is really great. I really feel the emotions of the characters.

For me the story is quite unique. I really don't mind the other details but the feels like brought me back years ago when I was reading Miki Yoshikawa's work where I starter to love anime and manga.

I will preface this by saying that this is based on the first 24 chapters, and also, I'm a fan of Yoshikawa Miki 's prior works. I think she's a talented author and has a good head on her shoulders. That being said, why.........

So, here's the deal. The initial premise of the manga (and the one shot) sells us this story of two families who's children were swapped at birth, something they don't realize till the start of chapter one when the kids are now highschoolers.

Our Male lead is raised by the poor family and to compensate for his background studies super hard. He has this weird rivalry with a girl in his class who he's crushing on as well. They make some odd deal that if he takes first place, he will ask her out, which ends up happening, but they don't actually go out. Instead they bond over collecting stickers and studying in the library.

The Female lead is raised as a lone rich kid. She's currently some sort of SNS celeb and goes to an all girl school.

The kids meet first, don't really like eachother, and then the parents later introduce them to eachother and surprise surprise, they're now engaged. Que the "WTF", etc. the parents tell them to move into a house that her dad (his bio dad) has prepared for them.

Ok, so far, so good. This is where shit goes south super fast. Yoshikawa clearly isn't a harem writer, she has no sense of balance for character pacing where there's multiple love rivals. Hell, they each just disappear for entire parts to focus on the other. No one gets anywhere.

She does this thing where she tries to tell us that they're perfect for eachother instead of actually showing it and it comes across as really forced.

Now the most annoying part, suddenly his sister (who's technically not his bio sister) is crushing on him despite there being no mention of this for fucking 16 years of his life?

This manga started as a 7-8/10 and has quickly dropped to a 4 for me. I will keep reading because I like the designs and if Yoshikawa gets back to her roots, it can be good (She wrote Yamada-kun which I was a huge fan of, and it was legitimately good). But in the mean time, be warned. If you like badly written drama, terrible pacing, and the most generic and overplayed harem tropes, you will like this. If not, you won't.

let me cut this short. I like to read manga for the most part of 1 to 65 of this i can somewhat understand i get the story the characters and i could see an ending but the second Al is introduced the whole story flipped upside down every character went to shit, story went from mid to what is this even meant to be. Its the most thought provoking manga i read in such a long time like in a bad way, i thought it was going to be like the normal rom com, but the author really did just ruin who own story ... and ... nah im sick of it.

This is the first manga that has made me write a review, i just can't handle it.
It started out amazing, it had a pretty interesting premise and the characters were also nice. I enjoyed it a lot in the first few chapters, but oh god did it get bad. Only rating the first 20 or so chapters i would give this a solid 8, maybe even 9, but the chapters afterwards killed it. If you ever are going to read this, please only read the first 20ish chapters, its for your own good.

The plot gets stupid after around 20 so chapters, the mc's sister??? ... started to fall for the main character who lived with her for her whole life. Before she discovered the mc wasn't blood related to her, she didn't have any interest in him, but after she discovered it she started to fall in love with him?? The mc also treated her as his little sister, but for plot reasons he suddenly started to like her in only 1 chapter. 1 chapter... Like what the actual f. The sister wasn't even in play but she suddenly becomes one of the choice, terrible writing.

The plot also only focuses on the mc's non biological parents, while his biological parents are nowhere to be found. It talks about how the girl who got swapped with the mc is getting to know her biological parents, while our main character doesn't even meet his biological parents? It started to make me feel like the mc isn't really the mc, since its mainly focusing on how the girl gets to know her real family.

anddd..... The mc is currently being forced to live with the girl who got swapped with him, because their parents wants them to get married. It was pretty interesting when it was only them, but then, remember what i said before about his sister? Yeah, she suddenly came and started to live with them......? Its not over yet, after some more chapters, the girl who the mc likes also comes to live in the house.??...??... Like why... Why is the author forcing this guy to have a harem. It would've been perfect if it was like nisekoi, but no, the author had to make it a harem. And a harem with no logic at that.

Oh, i almost forgot to mention that the mc is constantly being dragged everywhere by his sister and the swapped girl, hes constantly being pushed around by others and barely has his own opinions. He says he needs to study hard, but what happens, he gets dragged around by his sister or the swapped girl, but he somehow gets better score than before. He studies less, but his score gets better, and even when he gets a bad score, all he needs to do is say "oh no i got cocky," and he suddenly gets good scores again, while studying even less.

The nature of the Harem narrative has always been a complicated one. It has to at once balance the adolescent fantasy of being desired by multiple girls while delivering on the intimacy and sense of connection present within the modern romantic relationship. Needless to say, it is incredibly hard to do both at once for how does a story convince its audience that one relationship is legitimate and intimate whilst the protagonist goes about chasing the skirts of other girls? Perhaps if we were in a culture where polygamy is readily accepted that would fly, but not in this 21st century. Not to mention the ... Harem narrative also needs to play a very delicate act of balancing the development of each relationship while still creating conflict and tension to give a sense of progression to the story.

The only time I've seen such a Harem narrative somewhat manage to do this is in The Quintessential Quintuplets. It manages to sidestep a lot of the trouble of most harem stories by including the presence of the other sisters within the protagonist's conquest of each relationship all while enticing readers to carry on with the story by creating drama through a rather philosophical question: Is a person's identity tied to their appearance? A rather natural narrative progression considering that the conquest female characters are quintuplets. Also, it perfectly fits with the harem narrative premise.

Sadly, despite beginning with a promising premise that questions the nature of blood relationships, Kakkou no Iinazuke fails to live up to its intriguing premise by failing to manage this delicate balance.

The story and characters here are sadly, incredibly messy and unstructured. With plot points and character motivations moving back and forth with seemingly little thought. It was rather believable when stuff like that happens in the early 30-50 chapters or so (I'm being generous), especially with characters who are still getting used to the absurdity of the setting. But when the very same thing continues even after 100 chapters, it becomes incredibly fatiguing.

Not to mention the central theme of Kakkou no Iinazuke does not particularly go well with the harem premise. Its story, which revolves around the opposition of 'destiny' (basically social constructs - blood ties, sibling bonds, family expectations, etc.) becomes diluted by the protagonist's opposition to multiple 'destinies'. As the main boy bounces between each conflict generated by the 'destiny' like a soccer ball, his all-purpose presence diminishes the prominence of these social constructs and the social stigmas that come with them.

Even the central mystery of the manga, (which I shan't spoil) has pretty much gone absolutely nowhere since its first appearance around the 30-chapter mark. This gives the sense that the story is inflating its own narrative and delaying its own progression. Needless to say, this is incredibly frustrating to read. Especially when characters repeatedly knock down their own story and character development for the sake of creating 'tension' in the weird harm square (4 girls now). The latest arc is perhaps the doing this most blatantly - to its own detriment.

All in all, Kakkou no Iinazuke begins with an intriguing premise but its execution delivers little of its initial potential. Still, the female leads are rather charming and their character designs are great. The art is good and the story panelling is clear and dynamic. It is this aesthetical aspect that compels me to continue reading despite the messy story and delayed narrative development.

I'm going to tell you about how far I've read (chapter 40), so this will contain spoilers.

If you read the synopsis, doesn't it seems you something similar to some work from a while ago?
Exactly, follow Nisekoi's lead. Still, I don't feel that this is bad, so i'll go by parts:

-First point, art: I will be clear here: The best of manga without a doubt, is the art. I have been reading works by Yoshikawa Miki since Yamada-kun, and the evolution of his drawing is very noticeable, it is what is most enjoyed about Kakkou no Iinazuke, how well it is drawn.

-Second point, Story. This is ... disappointing, it's cliché, boring, and in a way you already know how the story is going to unfold unless something very unexpected happens, which I don't think so (I hope I regret it).
To give you the idea, in 40 chapters that I have been reading the manga, it is exasperating how the story has not advanced at all, each chapter
more boring than the previous one.

-Third point, characters: I've read a lot of junk romcoms, but i don't remember none with a combination of cheap characters like Kakkou no Iinazuke ... They don't bring any kind of interest to the reader, you could substitute by a potato , and they serve the same function. The MC is something that I already read 50 times, Erika is like Chitoge (nisekoi) without being aggressive, and Sachi is the typical brocon sister ... The only character that is worthwhile and introduces something """""new"""" is Hiro.


The work is typical romcom, if you like the genre you will follow it with no big problems, me, in my case, I started reading it from the Oneshot and by inertia I keep reading it ...
But I don't recommend it, I feel like there are hundreds of similar works that are better.

At the earlier part of the manga i had a feeling that this show were more or less pure vanilla, exchanged at birth and engaged later on? cool, sachi moves in to the erika/nagi house? okay, so it was a fun read. But as the story moves forward the studio starting to raise the bar and more or less make the story more complicated (?) who is this erika older brother anyway? Erika parents were very welcoming to the prospect of their daughter and lost son to being engaged, but as the story goes further the manga gives the impression that Nagi and Erika parents ... were a total stranger and Nagi was a possible persona non grata, This essence feeling of Pure Vanilla of this manga at the start had became complicated and indecisive. Now this show had became pretty much a Drama show instead of a Romantic Comedy.

As the story goes our MC appeals were completely diminished, More or less our MC feels like a Side character and the females were the one who control the story. [Don't know if i said it right]

I had a feeling that the studio who made this manga is not interested on making a good story at all, instead they just focused on how to keep the readers stays "hooked" to the show. At this phase, the manga could ended up with another 100+ chapters without a proper ending insight. It's either they gonna goes for the same old repetitive pattern or they would created another character introduced to the realm as a short term solution. i believe the manga had been dragged for too long and they should've start to look for a proper way to end this.

Still, the female lead are rather charming and their character designs are great. The art is good and the story panelling is clear and dynamic. It is this aesthetical aspect that compels me to continue reading despite the messy story and delayed narrative development.

Also Ai is best girl. they should've just end the manga with her long time ago before the story went to shit. :)
And Segawa definitely a wifey material.

This is the best manga I've ever read from Yoshikawa-sensei... The art has been so much beautiful! So much development since Yamada-kun (and the appalling Yankee-kun).

The male protagonist, Nagi, could be very cool and funny at the same time... One of the best generic romcom-harem smartass protagonists IMHO, even ahead of both Yuiga and Fuutarou... who most of the time oblivious to their feeling, and just realize it at the end of the series. Nagi seems more composed and faces his feeling better.

Although the pace of the story is a bit too fast, it's still very enjoyable. I like all the heroines as well, they ... are good in their own way. All supporting characters also kind, no negative bullying at all since the first chapter, just a good relaxing not-a-common-slice-of-life romcom.

In the end, I just hope to still read this manga for the next 2 years, before Yoshikawa-sensei put a beautiful closure for Nagi-Sachi-Erika-Hiro. I hope the ending would not be too rush and dragged too long. Cannot wait to watch the anime adaptation!

Until chapter 55, I'm confident enough to give 10 out of 10 for this series! Excellent...!!!

Why does it have to be a harem man, like why can't he just fall for the first girl?
And then his adopted sister that he grew up with starts to fall in love with him.
I don't know I think harems have gotten way worse I used to watch Trashy harem anime but now I can't stomach them. If this was 2 years ago I probably could have read this but I just don't like it.

If this had 2 more male characters like they showed the black-haired girl finance and then they get married and then the mc has a friend and that friend ... falls in love with his sister, that probably would have been better than his sister falling in love with him.



If this wasn't a harem it would have been good.

I'm on chapter 80 and this looks like it could challenge rent a gf in being the "one piece of rom com". The development is really slow and with some kts lowkey nonexistent, nothing happens and some sgjff are just left out, like the mystery of Sosuke. The characters are pretty bland. MC is dull with not much of a personality, even though at the beginning he had promise. The girl cast doesn't save the manga aswell. The art is good, not exceptional, but nice to look at. The beginning has a nice promise, it's like domestic no kanojo with the whole step sister thing, ... but that manga had a lot of dramatic sequences. If you want to read a good romcom harem, read nisekoi.

I've read through 75 chapters, all I can say is that the characters are everything for this series.
In no particular order. Sachi Umino, who is Nagi's sister, feels like an incredibly forced sister-brother romance character. We are lead to believe that she is simply confused about her feelings, but it is handled incredibly poorly throughout the story. She feels like the writer just needed to fill a trope and the interactions she has with Sachi end up feeling cheap and hollow. After the intro plot hook in the beginning Sachi suddenly starts developing feelings ... for her Brother, but can only express these feelings through jealousy and passive aggressiveness towards him. All while the audience is constantly reminded that yes Sachi is indeed a part of Nagi's harem of women and its cool because they are not blood related. Despite the fact that they grew up together and should have no romantic attraction to each other.
Erika Amano is actually a likable character. She certainly fills a trope but she fills that trope well. Nagi and her will often get into shenanigans in various situations and the interactions between them are quite cute at times. I especially enjoy when they put on matching outfits when they go out in public to hide from the public eye or just to have more fun in whatever they're doing. There are also multiple occasions when she shows genuine concern for Nagi's wellbeing. Nagi returns the favor by being kind to Nagi as well throughout the manga, while not quite as frequent as Erika. There is a genuine connection between them and overall Nagi is a compelling character, and she's hot.
Hiro Segawa was also a pleasant surprise in the series. While at first you're not quite sure what to think of her, once she starts interacting more with Nagi there is a great connection between them. Some of these other reviews say that Nagi is just being used, but I'd argue against that. They go out on dates and she is very happy to have someone to go with her. She didn't have many friends growing up, same as Erika, and now goes on dates with Nagi to amusement parks, karaoke, etc. My favorite was when they ended up stuck in a rain storm and shared a room together. The banter these two have together is really heartwarming and genuinely feels like two teenagers just having a good time. Although those interactions are usually cut short by some other member of the harem interrupting them.
Lastly Nagi Umino is the reason I dropped the series along with his sister. For every good thing Nagi does he says or does an equally horrible or stupid thing. It gets worse the more you read and I really wanted to drop kick him for being insensitive towards Hiro on multiple occasions.
Over all Ehhhh, Hiro Segawa best girl.

I'm completely disappointed with the character ideas causing many issues to the way how the story plot progresses. (Any fans out there please do NOT be offended by this review this is my personal opinion of this particular manga so far..) You may trust me or not I've read to the max chapter any website contains. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU TO READ THIS, I've provided some evidence in my statements. Correct me if anything I said was wrong, don't get angry with my review as this is ONLY my opinion. Again if you think some of my statements are wrong feel free to think so.

~Characters ... --> Wrong choice of idea
Firstly the character personality traits are just honestly messed up. Each of the three girls have a different toxic side of themselves ruining the "harem & romantic" theme of this manga. More specifically, let me clarify, throughout the story Hiro (Nagi's crush) was just completely toying around with Nagi, there was even once Hiro invited him on a date just to get a discount from a movie ticket (If I remember correctly) which is just no point of bringing him along if she is not going to develop feelings for him. She even stated the fact that she only likes people who are smarter than her, this resulted in Nagi started working his ass off everyday studying non-stop enabling him to develop feelings to any other girls. They even had a deal which there was one condition "If Nagi could place 1st in the school ranks, she would only date him". The deal they had was stupid, honestly from here, I just paused reading for few days. From volume 1-5 there was not a single love development happening between these two characters, all they do is versing each other seeing who can win in the school rankings. During a camping trip, Hiro also promised Nagi's friend (Shion, I believe) that she would help him confess his love for Erika, this made me more frustrated and annoyed towards Hiro either because she didn't want #1Erika to end up with or fall in love with Nagi (jealously) or simply because #2she hates Nagi so much. I believe my number 2 statement is most likely true because on the first time Nagi and Hiro met she yelled to him saying 'to stop talking to her ever again', this may indicate that Hiro is annoyed by Nagi or in worse case hates him. After awhile she cut her hair short and decided to start to talk to Nagi for some unknown reason.
I'm not even rooting for this girl to win. (There are more reasons why Hiro ruined the whole theme, I'm not willing to explain due to spoilers).

Secondly, possibility one of the main reasons I started bashing my keyboard is the idea of second harem protagonist which was Sachi (Nagi's biological younger sister). Honestly, I have not a single clue why the author would include Sachi to be one of the main girls. She should be considered more as a side character (Side character: People who don't involve in big events but just to make story more engaging or interesting). In this case it is romance.
Just starting from chapter 46-91 she literally started crushing on Nagi and later on she started faking that she was going on a "date" with another boy, just to see Nagi's reactions of worrying for her if she had a boyfriend, he did show some signs that he was worried which Sachi thought was because Nagi loved her back, but she completely had the wrong idea. In the manga, the only reason Nagi was worried about his sister getting a boyfriend was because he could never see her again in the future if she was married, I understood Nagi's emotions at this part of the manga. But I still hate the fact that Sachi believes that her brother absolutely loves her back. She even decided that it would be a good idea to kick her own brother (this actually happened somewhere in the chapters). If I were the author I would immediately remove this 'type' character out of the story. To get my point straight, I really dislike the idea of adding Sachi as one of the main girls.

Third, the girl I'm hoping who could win the romantic battle. Erika, who does have some terrible sides let me explain further. Despite being the daughter of a billionaire and owns a hotel tycoon and mother thats works as a national wide television producer, Erika is still too lazy to do house work or even cook dinner for herself, she always relies on Nagi pretty much on everything. All she does regularly are just posting pictures on Instagram, there was a reason however which was because she apparently thought it would help to locate her older brother Aka. Nagi's real older brother (He mysteriously disappeared when Nagi and Erika engaged).
{If you root for Erika here are some positive facts about her}. There were some parts when Erika did influence Nagi to change his mind like when Nagi was suddenly placed 13th on the school exams which resulted him in slight depression and isolation because he couldn't beat Hiro, she inspired him to seek forward. She is the only girl who shared the most time with him allowing her to develop more feelings for him, this is hinted throughout the magna but not confirmed, one example such as the part where she says "I don't like you that way, not YET", this phase was one of the major evidence of her liking Nagi find within the beginning chapters. (Quick Edit) Lastly, I forgot to mention the last girl, Ai (Nagi's childhood friend). She only appears on chapters after 50+ Ai didn't really have that many issues so far within the story plot, however because of her desperate love for Nagi that Ai wants to get married to him, it will only cause major troubles later on in the manga. (My prediction so far.. NOT confirmed). Here are the only key facts I can gather about her. She is a professional singer, she moved to China and then came back after her parents decided to breakup (As in that they want to live in different countries). Ai is the first girl Nagi confessed his love to, it is literally obvious in the manga that she loves him because she writes her songs based on Nagi.

~Conclusion
There were also some positive notes about this manga that is the art which I'm giving a solid 7 (Good). The art was literally immeasurable compared to other mangas I've seen. Overall, I am rating this a 3(Poor) because this manga lacks the love development from each of the characters as well as wrong character choices e.g Sachi. All three have toxic sides completely ruining the genre of romance. The only thing that could fix this problem is if the author will start focusing on the character's development in terms of relationship for the main protagonist. I'm hoping the anime will be good at this point. So far the trailer is well done *chef's kiss* For new people who want to read this I recommend you do if you really like Nisekoi.

(Review in Progress) This is the current work of the author who wrote both Yankee-Kun to Megane-Chan (Flunk Punk Rumble) and of course Yamada-kun to 7-nin No Majo (Yamada and the Seven Witches). Both of them good series in their right and they both had their own criticisms but they both had a lot of charm to them to keep you reading. I had to mention these two series first because it's not as funny as those two were, doesn't have a big and colorful cast, not really much drama as I thought it would have for love comedy harem, and it feels like there's ... not much of foundation to keep you interest. I'll get more in depth but the reason I kept reading was because Yamada had a down time in its series in the middle but it managed to bring itself up to the conclusion... Yankee was a bit of the opposite... but still a good series regardless!

Story (4): All I have to say is that this third series had a lot to live up to after we got both Yankee and Yamada and all I have to say is that it's no where near as good as those two. It's a harem, between his set up to be Fiance Erika Amano, his test score rival and crush Hiro Segawa, and (possibly? It's been over 40 chapters and they still messing around whether they both just see each other as siblings or not) his thought to be biological sister Sachi Umino. The first chapter atleast simplifies these three as the main contenders buttttt there's no conflict..... It feels like there should be conflict but there's none whatsoever, we kept being told that there's a storm brewing the next chapter but again nothing ****ing happens and everything is resolved... I'm going to mention Yankee and Yamada again real quick here, in 48 chapters we get to meet a bunch of characters, had some conflicts, had a bunch of laughs, and we get to see some sort of drama... Cuckoo ain't got none of that, I laughed a few times and most of the 'love' situations are so forced that its cringeworthy and one more thing to note is there's not really any story arcs atleast up to chapter 48.

I'm just hoping the story picks up from here... please do.

Art (7): It's certainly the same as the last two series so I don't know why it feels like she got a bit lazy with the character designs.

Character (4): We only got 4 characters that the story revolves around and they're odd. Lets start with Nagi, he's the main character of this manga but there's really not much known about him... he has some quirks that can be explored but they're not really explained like how he's supposedly really strong but no one mentions it and there's more but I rather keep this short and say that after 48 chapters, there's still so little we know of him....
Erika... I really don't care too much for her and all her interactions with Nagi seemed super forced, the chapters with both of these two are usually the ones I can't get into and had to motivate myself to keep reading, she's not per say a bad character.
Sachi is probably my favorite character in this mostly because she's interesting, she has actual traits of being a complete character and the chapters she's in are some of the ones I look forward to.
Hiro... she's alright, nothing bad about her at all but there's seems to be something up with her and I look forward to seeing what she's up to.
Okay that's it, in 48 CHAPTERS, there's only been little development with and between these characters, and there's only one other minor character that's not their parents but he rarely shows up and you don't really get to know much about him at all!

Enjoyment (4): It's disappointing even without comparing Yamada or Yankee, it's still really disappointing. I only read because I was such a big fan of the mangaka and was hoping to see her get more attention but this is not it chief.

Overall (5): One question... How did they not know that their kids were switched in the first place. Like imagine this, didn't they get told what gender their baby was before they sat them in beds, did they atleast see what kind of colored hair their babies had, and I can keep going but I'll stop here. Okay lets ignored all of the above and try to get into this situation, wouldn't you be questioning your spouse because both Nagi and Erika had no similar traits as their 'mother' and 'father'. It's one of the biggest nitpicks for me and I just can't get over how dumb that sounds, but I guess it would make sense if they were the same gender and had the same colored hair but what ever... Just ignore this big elephant of a question if you truly are going to read on.

To be clear—this review only takes into account the first 21 chapters. I have not read any content beyond chapter 21, and I don't intend to for the time being. I don't know if the manga improves later on, but given the current pace, it only seems to degrade with each chapter and I've seen many readers complain that it doesn't get any better.

Story: 5/10

After finishing the one-shot/first chapter, I was somewhat surprised because the reviews I read for this series beforehand weren't too positive about it. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but the first chapter at least gave me the ... impression that the series had some potential depending on how the mangaka decided to proceed from there. We're introduced to an MC who seems to be capable enough—excellent grades, can hold his own in a scuffle (doesn't punch with the force of a mosquito bumping into you like the commonly seen spineless romcom MC trope), and social skills that... exist (It's a low bar, but it's the genre standard lol). In any case, he's not a Gary Stu, but he's competent; I can dig it. Unfortunately, it doesn't take me too long to see why the reviews for this manga were so poor. In these 21 chapters, development for any romantic progress appears to be nonexistent. There are some inklings of character development—cool—but being primarily a romcom, having no romantic development at this point is not a good look. For the most part, it actually seems like the romance develops in the reverse (??) to some degree, as the MC's romantic interests either have an arranged fiancée, or they're interested in someone else. The MC, as competent as he is, feels virtually sidelined by the other characters most of the time. Someone shows interest in getting closer to the MC? It's likely because they're interested in his hot 16-year-old social media influencer fiancée (the heroine). The heroine's relationship with her long-separated biological parents gets closer as they have spotty interactions and family outings to bond? The MC has NO, NADA, 0 interactions with his own biological parents, and the parents (the heroine's biological parents) who have been raising him up to this point have practically tossed him out and stopped paying him much attention. It's sad, really—what is even going on here? Reading this just makes me feel bad for the MC. He somehow even says he's enjoying the new happenings in his life.

Character: 4/10

Bonus points for the MC who has managed to topple the very low bar set for romcom protagonists, I guess. I don't even think he's a great character, he just doesn't fit the spineless trope at least. As I mentioned before—he's got good grades, can handle himself in a fight, and has social skills that exist. He's completely oblivious to how shitty his situation is though, the heroine he was swapped with at birth got to be nurtured by his hotel tycoon parents who live in a mansion and are serviced by servants, while he grew up with her biological parents who are very poor. On top of that, the heroine is developing her relationship with her biological parents while the MC gets thrown away by them and has 0 interactions with his own biological parents. The mangaka makes no attempt to delve deeper into the dynamic of the two being swapped at birth, and how what should've "belonged" to the MC was practically stolen from him. I'm not necessarily saying I want the MC to be snotty about it all, but being resentful about the situation would be realistic, especially given that he's a high school kid who grew up in a home that the heroine called a "storage room." There's potential to give the MC and heroine some depth to their characters by delving more deeply into this rather than just brushing it off in a comedic tone.

The heroine is a shamelessly spoiled abrasive brat who doesn't really seem to get how good she's had it. And despite being the realistically LEAST likely match for the MC, she's definitely going to end up with him somehow since she's the heroine. I don't really see how, though—she's shown 0 romantic interest in the MC, and I've heard that remains mostly unchanged even in the most recent chapters. She resolved herself to become more independent after seeing how much more competent the MC is compared to her, but she quickly and very often still relies on people to do everything for her while she fiddles with her phone on social media. She gets some points for showing a desire to become more familiar with her estranged biological family and acting on it (upon being spurred by the MC). So far she's irredeemable to me, with no good qualities aside from having a hot bod.

I won't talk too much about the other two (as of chapter 21) love interests in lieu of spoilers, but they're not much better. They're confusing (as they're confused themselves); they either don't know what they want, won't act on want they want, or both. They appear to have resigned themselves to their family's whims. Uncaptivating characters.

Art: 7-8/10

Nice eye candy every now and then. Good occasional fanservice. Good titties and good ass if you're into that. It's nothing amazing, but it appeals to me, so I'm fond of it.

Overall: 5/10 (at best)

It's par for the course for the romcom genre. Give it a try if you like the standard romcom manga, it'll meet those expectations I suppose. Not much of a read if you're looking for something more captivating. I'm more into a romance plot riddled with subtext and undertones—something that, at the least, doesn't rely on surface-level misdirects and an overuse of misunderstandings to keep the story going. Also, give it a try if you're into looking at cute girls, it has those in my opinion.

I'm not getting into the plot since you could've read the summary on the anime's description so I'm mostly putting my strict opinions on this review.

Hiro would be Ondera ( yes ik they are the complete opposite but listen..) : Main male's crush, love interest with male
Ai would be Yui ( Pls note that both character only appear in the manga as of 09/04/22) : Child hood friend of Male MC, Older than other Females
Sachi would be Tachibana ( Idk how but just deal with it for now ) : has some sort of interest in Main Male, Um... idk.
Anywhooo if Kakou no Iinazuke were to be like Nisekoi he would end up with Erika.. so pls Nagi get your thoughts through!!

Welp you better wait because I'm getting bored of writing so I'll finish this another day lol.

The manga has an interesting start, but any interest fades away too early. Everything becomes repetitive and senseless. A massive suspension of disbelief is required to accept anything in this work.
I couldn't notice any sign of character development, which only made the work more unbearable.

I believe this work is a waste of time. Anything positive about it is easily overshadowed by the dull and forced storyline. Apparently, the mangaka wanted to delve into a story of romance, slice of life, comedy, betrayal, incest, and harem, but couldn't quite decide where to focus. They superficially incorporated all the elements and ended up making this unpleasant milkshake.
