Manga 133854 Kowloons Ball Parade

An interesting take on a sports manga. Sports series (baseball especially) have to navigate the same formula. Its how you navigate, circumvent, and execute the tropes that counts. Every baseball manga is going to be about going to the Koshien. So what are you going to do different?

Well this manga does A LOT different. The beginning focuses heavily on the building of a team from scratch. The protagonist is a cerebral, but ultimately unremarkable player. After being rejected from his dream team he must assemble a ragtag crew to take revenge.

Its approach to the storytelling of the baseball games focuses almost entirely on the strategy ... and decisionmaking involved. I learned a shit ton about baseball just from reading this manga.

Unfortunately Shonen Jump readers are a bunch of bird-brained morons, and this series didn't have enough explosions and tits in it so it got axed before we could reach the climax.

I really respect the authors stubborn dedication to telling the story of the assembly of the team. Every member felt like they earned their spot, even when the last three novices joined because it was clear editorial was rushing him - it made sense and was charming.

I would have loved to see this team grow more together. The character development we got was executed extremely well, and the adversity they faced was well thought out.

I would definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for a sports or baseball manga - with the caveat that it is short and sweet and wasn't allowed a real ending.

After Kuroko no Basket ended, I was looking forward to finding that next sports manga (or anime) that got me as hyped up as Kuroko did. Eventually I gave Haikyuu a watch and after 2 seasons....it was a huge let down, so much so that I ended up skipping 10 episodes of Season 2 and going to the last game of the Season cause I couldn't be bothered with any of the characters and figured "We'll at least the action will be cool", it wasn't.

i gave up on Haikyuu, but didn't give up on finding that next sports manga and BAM! I run into ... NDBP and I fell in love instantly. The main cast was so fun and full of quirky personalities that you couldn't help but love them and look forward to seeing how they'd interact with each other. On top of that the action, in this case Baseball, was really cool and really fun! I know nothing about baseball but it didn't matter because the manga does a great way of explaining what's happening, and of course the hype moments are...HYPE! I loved NDBP and was so sad when it got canceled since there was so much that was being set up, it's a shame.

This is one of the newer Shonen Jump series and it needs to improve more to keep itself within the cutthroat magazine

STORY:
This story is starting to take-off, it had this interesting concept that's a little different than the usual sport series. Building a team from scratch instead of joining a failing team(kind of failing team actually) It needs improvements because I don't know what the end-goal is become this good baseball team of misfits or best in the world?

ART:
The manga is your average decent art but it has these moments where it's amazing and I wish it would be amazing ... more of the time.

CHARACTER:
Fair cast of characters, hopefully this doesn't get axed before all of the team is introduced. Different background for them is nice with the smart kid getting his baseball dream killed but rebound after meeting the girl. This character interactions are nice.

ENJOYMENT:
I want to see the baseball team win and I want see them complete this team of rejects. It's great for baseball lovers and people who want to Shonen sports.

Overall, I believe this series will have trouble staying safe from the axe and this hurts because this series will get better over time with the addition of more players. Alongside seeing more baseball games get played will help keep this alive, the people want action and that will keep in the magazine.
