Violent action sword fighting manga that is extremely well drawn.
reportRecommended by xeroxedechidna
Both focus on an antihero of sorts with extreme proficiency in slicing dudes. Beautiful artwork, complex and mature themes, and a (while not yet present in Vagabond) hostile rivalry between the two main characters. Berserk is set in a high-fantasy setting while Vagabond is set in medieval Japan and on historical events.

Both are violent and got nicely done action scenes and interesting flashbacks. Berserk is set in a more fantasy medieval world while Vinland Saga follows the life of Danish Vikings. Berserk Golden age part is very similar to Vinland saga, both is about a strong young boy who is a part of a mercenary group and got full respect from the leader who gives him the most important missions. The art in the two are very close, tho Vinland Saga is a more clean while Berserk is more sketchy and more detailed.

These dark fantasy reads involve large scale fights with powerful, often gigantic, creatures.

Well I'll refrain myself from spoiling the two (Spoilers for decades old manga? Surely everyone already knows the spoilers) Miura himself claims he's a big fan of Go Nagai and had influences from his manga. As for the manga: Both have deep roots in mythology and share a great deal of themes. Among them: friendship, corruption, and betrayal. If you only read the first Devilman series you might see the similarities with Berserk and also notice the major turning point of both series are very much alike. The more of Devilman you read the more and more similarities you'll notice. The characters: Akira/Amon and Guts: Both (at some point or another)

Both have violent but cool fighting scenes and even some sex together with interesting stories. Beserk follow a medieval fantasy world while Gantz is set in alternate present cyberpunk. Both main characters are also affected by unknown forces.

Shin Angyo Onshi is the Korean Berserk. It is as simple as that. There are too many similarities to count, such as even the more superficial things like the lead, Munsu, being branded with a 'curse'. Few manga/manhwa can compare to Berserk in terms of art, but SAO even rivals Berserk in that area. Although Munsu looks... off at the start (similar to Guts in Berserk), the artist quickly became my favourite. For the sake of spoilers, I'll avoid going into detail, but I will say this: the structure of SAO as a series is VERY SIMILAR to Berserk and Munsu's personality / actions mirror Guts'.

Ubel Blatt is essentially a "newer" version of Berserk. It shares many general themes with Berserk, such as a dark fantasy setting, swordfighting, sex and the theme of a lone hero betrayed by his friends and is out to get revenge. However, the mangaka of Ubel Blatt is no Miura; the art is of a more typical manga style than the extremely detailed drawings you'll find in Berserk. Consequently, the character design looks similarly generic. This difference is rather apparent when you compare Koinzell, the main character who looks like a scarred version of Link and is indeed an Elf/Fairy thing, to Guts who is pretty

Both mangas are about a world that is pretty much in constant war. In Berserk you follow Guts and in Kingdom you follow Shin. Both have to fight to obtain their goals in life. While Berserk is a darker toned manga, Kingdom is also a very serious manga that has a lot of moral story to it, just like Berserk. If you like one, you would like the other

Similar in some regards, while Chainsaw Man feels way lighter in the pursuit of feeling some oppai it does have great action scenes and a decent dose of seriousness, the thing farther from Berserk tho it's the loneliness feeling and a certain realism within it that Chainsaw Man does not have.
reportRecommended by OfficialRage
Both series have a messed up world where many people die every day from either monsters or other humans. Main characters are on a quest for revenge, travelling the lands to find this person. They are both very dark.
reportRecommended by Thorf
Both tell the tragic and violent story of a man on a quest to revenge in a dark fantasy world
reportRecommended by Valaskjalf
Despite the difference in drawing style and adult content (i.e. sexual material of Berserk) these two mangas have a distinct similarity when it comes to atmosphere. They both sport a definite anti-hero, gore, beautiful characters and a great story. I could honestly not choose one over the other.
reportRecommended by helgarr
Both utilize epic plots with extensive foreshadowing and subtle development as well as taking a slower pace to give focus to adventure, fantasy and character development.
reportRecommended by sunup
Both series contain a headstrong protagonist and an arch rival, who in one way or another ruined their pasts, so now protagonists seek revenge and are trying to find a way to stop them. The atmosphere in both mangas is similar when it comes to battles and will to fight as well as mythological themes.
reportRecommended by RealExtinction
Both are violent, action-heavy series with plotlines that'll leave you much to question and think about. Both are fantasy worlds with very interesting cosmologies. Both have their share of massacres and badassery.
reportRecommended by Neiru2013
Whilst these two have completely different settings, they have many common themes between them. Both Berserk and Alita follow unfortunate protagonists whose troubles seem to go from bad to worse-- pretty much all the time. Guts and Gally/Alita (depending on where you read it) suffer terrible hardship, and through this we see them change dramatically. Both stories are so emotional and amazingly written... but I think it's important to note that they're both really gorey!

Berserk and Blaster Knuckle is virtually the same manga, we follow the lone hero, who's out for revenge against demons. The mayor difference is that in Knuckle Blaster the protagonist is a black man and the story takes place in USA during the 19th century. They are both great, violent mangas, and if you loved Berserk you'll definitley like Blaster Knuckle, it's an incredibly entertaining story.
reportRecommended by AfterGlow
Both revolve around the tragedy and struggles of the main characters (Guts and Kaneki). Highlights of these two mangas include strongly-developed characters and complex plots.

"Clenched teeth, meet cruel smile." The author(ess) of Wolfsmund, Mitsuhisa Kuji, was once Kentaro Miura's assistant. So, it should come as no great shock to learn that her debut work shares a number of similarities in terms of its medieval setting, grim tone and brutal, 'EVERYONE DIE!' approach to storytelling. But Wolfsmund truly comes into its own with its sketchy art style and a medieval depiction so realistic that it is one of very few series that could accurately be described as a 'bad guy wins' series. Although there is, eventually, a hero of sorts, there is no Guts here: just a villain so wonderfully sharp

They both have dark fantasy themes. Their action is good. The characters are similar.

Berserk is set in a medieval European time setting full of monsters and Gods while Shamo takes place in modern-day Japan dealing with martial arts fights. These two pieces are mature works and share a pervasive dark mood throughout, and the art of both reflects that, being highly detailed and gritty -- don't ever expect flowers and rainbows. Both are chock full of violence, sex, rape, and two protagonists who share an immeasurable will to survive, ruthlessly fighting to defeat something that is undeniably a bigger force than they. Both of their journeys' will suck you right in, so be ready for a rough ride.
reportRecommended by starkmad
The determination to face any challenge is a common feature of both characters. If you like that kind of character is not discouraged, however bad the situation is, then you will like to know both Gatsu (Berserk) as Kenshiro (Hokuto no Ken).
reportRecommended by yujinx
I wouldn't be surprised if Dororo was an inspiration for Berserk. Both feature a mutilated but incredibly skilled hero on a quest for revenge against demons, accompanied by a cocky sidekick. Berserk is far more disturbing, but Dororo is quite dark and gruesome in its own right.
reportRecommended by masamvne
For those who've only seen the movie of Nausicaa may question this reccomendation. however the manga is completely different from the anime. Both Berserk and Nausicaa are bloody, there's a lot of wars, fighting and action. also a lot of wierd and interesting shit happens. with berserk its demons and monsters, in nausicaa its monsters, giant bugs that have a great link to the earth and immortal kings that breed unhuman warriors. Most importantly they both have a very, very great plot and storyline.

What connects Berserk and Innocent is a minute portrayal of brutality, the horror and at the same time, the banality of evil. Despite one of the works being a fictional fantasy world and the other a story based on real historical events, a feeling of a ruthless naturalism stands out. We can see not only a motif of the protagonist's struggle with the inevitability of fate but also other interesting themes: the hypocrisy and immorality of aristocracy and the clergymen, a woman fighter claiming her independence, etc.

Altough akame ga kill is more light hearted. I think it is very similar to beserk. both have fantasy weapons and armor, but it's more realistic then in most manga. Both stories aren't afraid to let people die, even if they are innocent or important characters. In both they are in a corrupted world fighting monsters (some humans are also monsters) against odds. although guts is alone.
reportRecommended by h4ff
Berserk deals with a warrior fighting against massive grotesque monsters and humans alike such as knights and bandits and most recently tentacle pirates, Toujuushi Bestialious (somebody really needs to translate the alternative name for this) has a Wyvern fighting a gladiator and roman legionnaires Berserk started off as a one shot and I can imagine Toujuushi Bestialious turning out to look very similar to Berserk if it is given the same opportunity to be turned into a full blown action manga Both titles show awesome detailed artwork particularly the monsters and armor
reportRecommended by kuglefang
- Both series are sitting in fantasy worlds where there are Knights and is used Magic. - Both main characters are related to demons and have big massive sword. - Both main characters are rivals with their best friend, but in Berserk it's more like hatred, but in both they are related through their past.

Superb artstyle. The authors are not afraid of illustrating controversial matters such as rape, gore and brutal massacres. Both the mangas being 'rather f#cked up' without it being a weakness. Rare seeing such daring mangas showcased in such popular magazines.

A dark world full of monsters where both of them have suffered because of it. But they are different from each other, while Goblin Slayer doesnt' fight with the hate and madness like Guts, and he is not the one that will save the world, he is only a normal human, the only thing he can think of is ways to kill Goblins, he has no friend, no family, no dreams. Because of his lack of skill he search and are prepared to almost every situation, he will use poison, gas and everything on his hand to kill all Goblins.

Hear me out on this one lol. Both have really good writing for their respective genres as fantasy. Both are pretty brutal, with Hunter x Hunter baring its teeth around the Yorknew arc. Keep in mind that no matter how brutal HxH gets in later parts, Berserk is even crazier (especially during the Conviction arc and the first Eclipse). Both are stories with very well written characters and conflicts that may not even be resolved based on them both having hiatus tendencies ._.
reportRecommended by Capnskart
Both are about kingdoms and empires both characters started from the bottom they both become important characters in the army they belong to... historie is inspired from a real soldier in ancient Greece but there is a huge similarity to berserk compared to the other recommendations to Berserk this is the closest thing you can get

They both have dark themes. And personally I have high hopes for both of them.

Epic narrative which involve kingdoms, warriors and divinity elements. Both are tragic and sad stories. Most of the characters have been suffered a lot.
reportRecommended by shinobiakuma
Much the same when it comes to dark forces hunting and stalking the main character. Both protagonists come to learn they have hidden powers that drives them into exile, not to mention others looking to harm them because of what they have become. Even though the protagonists have very powerful and dark powers they are still kind hearted and will do what's right in the end. Both stories indulge in Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Horror, and Psychological genre components.

There are no other series I've ever read that come close to making you feel utter DESPAIR. You're not the characters, but you feel like you are sharing a part of their experience and are emotionally scarred b/c of it. They are both the visual realization of a Lovecraftian nightmare. No one is safe, no one is spared. The only things that matter are Desire and Sacrifice as they lead to Power. Sacrificing your Sanity, and Sacrificing your Humanity. I'm a complete POS person. If it can cause me to have FEELZ you know you have something special. 10/10 Not for the faint of heart and DEFINITELY

Both are tales about a man going on a quest of vengeance after their lives are screwed by the unholy powers. Brutal fights and lots of blood.
reportRecommended by Hattori_Hanzo
Both are set in medieval fantasy worlds containing monsters, knights and big scale battles. The main characters of both stories are anti-heroes with great powers.
reportRecommended by AfterGlow
Both are about fantasy worlds populated by humans as well as ghastly monsters, the lone hero and his magical companion battles against impossible odds, taking on the gargantuan monsters in direct combat.

According to Kentaro Miura "Guin Saga" has been his major inspiration when creating the Berserk manga series.

Ares and Berserk share a number of themes and story elements, while at the same time remaining wholly unique. Ares follows the story of a group of talented young swordsmen who come together in a mercenary army and forge bonds of friendship and camaraderie through difficult battles. Each of the main characters is given a rich background and a very unique personality, however it's in those personalities that you see the echoing of Berserk's lead rolls. Ares, like Guts, has a tragic past and is driven by thoughts of revenge. Michael, like Griffith, has a very grandiose dream and he is

Both have protagonists who take it upon themselves to overthrow the gods, Berserk is about revenge while Feng Shen Ji is about a fight for real freedom.

Violence, misogyny, sex and gore are featured these two amazing masterpieces that show off the skills of the mangakas and illustrators. There are a must read for any manga reader in search of a mature plot that weave together a bloody, action packed scenes that will not fail to entertain.

Both they have 1 woman of they lifie and bothhave op stats :) Guts every times find a way to kill his enemy, and Kitano Ken making the same :P wreck on his enemy :) In Berserk and in Sun-Ken Rock, both authors dont hesitant to show the brutality of the world [including rape cases, etc.]

FRIENDSHIP, LOVE, BETRAYAL and REVENGE! Great stories and wonderful storytelling, similar plot devices and stunning action scenes are what define these two great comics.

If Berserk had parents, they'd be Fist of the North Star and Versailles no Bara. The specific blend of shonen and shoujo tropes that Berserk exhibits owes a lot to Kentaro Miura's love of works like Versailles no Bara, and some events of the golden age arc of Berserk could almost be seen as an homage to it as a result. The settings are, as such, quite similar, barring certain events in Berserk that take things in a more gritty direction, while VnB is a character drama/tragedy set against the backdrop of the French revolution. Most would agree that the golden age arc of Berserk
