Why did we decide to call it a spoon? Does the breakfast club exist? Is this intro eye catching enough or should I just cut this grandiose intro crap everyone does go back to straight out harassment of the manga?

How on earth does this manga have a fanbase?

This manga is so, so terrible. I do not understand at all the high rating. Is...is this like a troll rating thing? If so, please tell me and restore some of my faith in humanity

This mangaka has no concept of transitions - we are quite literally thrown from arc to arc without a care in the world. It got to the point where I actually thought I was missing pages or chapters.

Arcs are thrown into your face without any explanation, characters appear out of nowhere - there is no foreshadowing nor people actually lurking in the shadows; one moment you will be looking at a shrine, and on the next page you'll be in a cave with some random person for one panel, and thats the last you see of them for the chapter, so when they get hurled into your face again, it immediately jerks a "who the fuck is that?" response over and over.

And dear fuck, the deus ex machina.

Yeah, yeah, I know what you might be thinking - "OH TEE HEE DEUX EX MACHINE THATS THE NAME OF THAT GOD PERSON IN THE MANGA HES DOING IT ON PURPOSE!!!"

No. If the mangaka is doing this on purpose, hes a moron. If he's not, hes still a moron. There is absolutely no meaning whatsoever to the plot-deux-ex-machina. At all. It's not satire on other mangas, its not some game changing plot device abuse, its not the breakfast club, its just total shit.

This manga actually appears to only annoy the living fuck out of people with its inconsistencies. And I don't mean a kind of minor annoyance, like the inconsistency of a pudding. This level of inconsistency is like being hurled around in a plane that drops to ground level about 50 times from 10 thousand feet up in 1 minute.

That's not even possible.

At many points throughout the manga I felt that it would've been better if the characters did not speak. Not for dramatic effect, but just because all the characters are fucking morons and should keep their mouths shut the hell up. This is most prominent in the "transition" page we get every few chapters. Completely full of shit that makes no sense. It might seem like I'm being dismissive here - and that's because I am. This manga should simply have been dismissed from the editing office, but instead, we're here and I have to write this review to sate my massive why-the-fuck-who-the-fuck-where-the-fuck headache.

The sole redeeming point of this manga, aside from it having a yandere, is how the main character changed at the end of the series. He actually became a pretty cool guy, and made the last few chapters actually enjoyable.

Unfortunately that does not change the fact that this manga is shit. What I would compare this to is you being force fed shit, literally, for the majority of your life, but for the last few days, you get pudding. Just a normal pudding, ya know? But compared to the shit you've been fed, that pudding is god. It also helps that your tongue is probably numb from all the shit

I actually recommend you read SOME of this manga, especially if any of you are interested in writing. This manga will provide a perfect example of what not to do for transitions, storyline, and will make sure you thoroughly check your work for swiss cheese.

If you choose to read the entirety of this manga, please: remember what you've been fed for the majority of your life.

Is this manga dear to me: Very. Did I enjoy re-reading it: Yes. Can I see someone else enjoy it: Sure. Can I recommend it: No.

Unless you suffer from nostalgia or are very open-minded, there is close to no value in reading this title. To say that it aged poorly is an understatement; to say it is anything outstanding is a lie. It commits many grave sins a manga could commit, and will most likely grind both your sanity and skull while reading it... Despite that, it is still very dear to me.

The protagonist is a typical introvert middle schooler who gets thrown into a ... bizarre set of circumstances ordinary people could not imagine, is confronted with unimaginable troubles, accomplishes great feats, etc, etc, etc ... Very far from something never seen before. There isn't anything ground-breaking here. The older you are, the more likely it is you got tired of this trope. However, I think much of its charm stems from that fact. This story should be seen through the lens of younger age, as many of us have experienced Mirai Nikki for the first time when we were younger.

It entertains that childish dream of being someone special. It entertains the idea of importance, being wanted and loved, even to the point of obsession. Great things happen to the protagonist out of the blue, as if he is destined to be a hero of a tale. Characters are motivated by naive and shallow goals; but it isn't hard to believe it, as we were also naive at that age. It even touches upon darker topics, like divorce, being manipulated, contemplating the idea of certain death... All combined in a simple, fun story with clumsy moments that is enticing to the younger audience. Those moments of dumb childishness are where Mirai Nikki still holds value, or at least I think so.

Am I giving this story too much credit: very likely. This method of thinking can be applied to a widespread of titles, this just being an example of it.

With that said, if you don't see things listed as worth it, I don't see much redeeming quality. We age, and we can't look at these things the same way as we did in the past. In reality, this title is not good. The story feels like a fever dream when looked back upon; the more logic you put behind it, the less it is cohesive. The characters are so over the top, bizarre, and random. By the end of the manga, some have run past every red flag imaginable, have committed numerous cases of severe crime, and somehow still have conscience as clear as a puddle. I don't want to go into any spoilers, but I am laughing while recalling some of the many utmost retarded parts there were. And the amount of DeRaNgEd sHiTtTtTt is, put lightly, concerning (every T at the end of the last word represents the number of times I genuinely felt shame reading this, and I was too generous, there should have been much more). At some point your ability to be critical vanishes, as you would just waste your energy over something that makes barely any sense in the first place. It's just dumb fun at the end of the day.

The art is far from special, and it gets the job done. There isn't anything more I could say about it.

This is a manga that offers nothing other titles couldn't, next to the fact many of those other titles offer a lot more alongside it. Unless you are younger and getting into this medium of art, or want to rekindle the nostalgia, or are up for dumb fun, or want to know who Yuno Gasai is, I'd recommend you look for something else, as I am certain you will find some better title. But, if you are among the people I listed, I won't discourage you. Despite the flaws, I can't say I found no entertainment in it.

At the end of the day, I am objectively judging something I am very subjective about. I am writing this review partially for others, but mainly for me to encapsulate my thoughts. In the end, I will always have a sweet spot for Mirai Nikki. I will always remember the characters and the story. I will always feel something when reading the ending. And I will always find some charm in the nostalgia behind it...

completely disappointed would not recommend to anyone. I finished it all just cause I started but it just kept getting worse and worse. i rather watch kings game in Spanish dub then this like cmon how do u mess up a story like that.

fuck this anime don't watch this ur wasting ur life on god. don't get me started on the art and animation its so bad even boku no pico had better art. rosario vampire fight scenes are more interesting than this.

Mirai Nikki is just another manga of poor quality, at a surface level.
The premise is quirky and interesting, and there are enough good fun ideas spread throughout the story to keep the reader entertained. But alas, being entertained does not mean that what you're reading is coherent, well-constructed or makes sense, and that is precisely the case with Mirai Nikki. The story constantly throws at you new characters, interesting ideas and fun scenarios, but almost every single one of them is underdeveloped, rushed or just provide a quick, temporary useless thrill.
There are many characters with interesting backgrounds or motivations, but they're never sufficiently fleshed out ... or given enough development to make them engaging because author Sakae Esuno seems much more compelled to write crazy, cool scenarios without taking the necessary time to build them up organically, making the whole experience feel extremely hollow and tacky as a result.
It really is a shame, because there's clearly a touching, earnest core at the heart of Mirai Nikki's mess. A heart-warming story about the wounded sincerity of toxic love, and the power of self-acceptance and trust to finally move on from a troubled past.
One can certainly find warmth in that message, but needs to delve beneath a huge pile of poor storytelling and wasted potential to find it.
