Manga 8585 Hanako To Guuwa No Teller

Great stories with a lot of plot twists

The concept of urban legends bending reality is interesting, and the author has a great way of building the plots around that. It also has one of the best manga endings I have ever read, which went completely unexpected. The manga follows the monster-of-the-week concept, built around an overall arc of the main character Asou's real identity.

The characters have potential, but with only 19 chapters, there is not enough room for character development. The romantic building between the male and female leads also feels a bit rushed, but their bonding is understandable, as they have go through ... so many near death experience together.

The only thing I don't really like is the artwork. It looks a little bit B-rated, but it does not feel generic and has its own characteristics, I guess.

Overall, I really enjoy the manga for its unique concept and development.

This mangas general story concept was pretty interesting, in that it had to do with investigations surrounding a number of tall tales and such. These stories I thought were pretty well done too, with lots of creepy scenes and overall being pretty gripping from beginning to end. Hence, I think that most of the manga was pretty interesting. I did have problems with the main cast of characters though, in that while there was some good background development for Hanako, the other two felt pretty underdeveloped when focused upon, and their relationship especially seemed to just suddenly be there. Hence, the story portions that focused on them over ... cases that they weren't as related to felt somewhat off, which increasingly became the case as it went on. This is especially true for the final arc, which felt like it got really convoluted. Still the ending was satisfying enough. The art was okay. 

tl;dr: An interesting premise that was at its best when not focusing on the overarching plot.
