Manga 'Vampire Dormitory' Gets TV Anime in 2024

Avex Pictures opened an official website for a television anime adaptation of Ema Tooyama's Vampire Dormitory manga on Monday, revealing the main staff and a teaser visual (pictured). The anime series, commemorating the Nakayoshi magazine's 70th anniversary and Tooyama's 20th debut anniversary as a manga author, will premiere in 2024.

Staff
Director: Nobuyoshi Nagayama (Uramichi Oniisan, Renai Flops)
Script: Touko Machida (Saikyou Onmyouji no Isekai Tenseiki, Tenkuu Shinpan)
Character Design: Naomi Tsuruta (NieR:Automata Ver1.1a animation director, Ayaka key animation)
Studio: Studio Blanc.

Tooyama began serializing the supernatural romance manga in Nakayoshi in October 2018 and ended the first part in July 2022. The second part debuted in December that year. Kodansha published the 11th volume on June 13, with the 12th volume planned for a November 13 release.

Synopsis
Mito Yamamoto is a beautiful man, so much so that women swarm the restaurant he works at daily. When the restaurant owner decides that he has had enough, he fires Mito, leaving him unemployed and with no place to call home.

Soon after, Mito happens upon a cafe and receives a cut on the hand from broken glass. A strange man named Ruka Saotome takes Mito aside to presumably tend to the injury, but instead, he licks away Mito's blood, remarking that it tastes disgusting before asking Mito to leave. Later that night, Mito accidentally slips off the roof of a building and is caught by Ruka, who reveals himself to be a vampire.

Ruka explains that a man's blood tastes disgusting, and the blood of someone unloved has an even worse flavor. However, Ruka cannot drink from girls, so he has been looking for a beautiful boy to become his thrall. He proposes that Mito fill this role and that he allow Ruka's affections to "ripen" his blood. Mito accepts and begins living with Ruka in the Hijirigaoka Boys' Academy dormitory. However, there is just one problem in all this: Mito is actually a girl! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

This trash manga gets an anime adaption before Shugo Chara! gets a faithful anime reboot... the world is messed up. This isn't going to make you money, Nakayoshi.

@RobertBobert

I don't know of she is still popular (I guess she must be to get an anime) but I know she used to be pretty well liked in the Shojo community. A lot of her manga have been licensed.

Well that sounded like a great synopsis up until the "Mito is actually a girl!" part

Actually sounded like a BL show I would've liked to see for once otherwise but alas

Well maybe it'll be a decent romance show anyway, we'll see

@malvarez1 Is she a pretty popular author? Judging by her page, she has quite a lot of manga.

I can't believe it took this long for Ema Toyama to get an anime.

Oh wow! Alright now. This is interesting
Since I stopped reading it now that it's getting an adaptation I might continue.

Damn, when was the last time we had a Nakayoshi adaptation that wasn't a sequel or remake to a prior series? Sabagebu?

Not sure if this is for me, but it's nice to see more shoujo adaptations, especially from an prolific author who hasn't gotten adaptation until now. Hope they do her work justice.

Finally an Ema Tooyama manga is adapted into an anime! One of the mangakas whose works I followed since grade school and loved.. waiting for an anime adaptation :')

I actually skip reading this work in particular though since the premise isn't my cup of tea, but I will definitely check out the anime. Shojo anime has been coming back recently and even if they're not my cup of tea, I am happy with that fact alone.

Next, adaptation of Natsumi Ando's works please.

@Miyanoai Just the beginning. Otherwise it's more of a vampire version of the old reverse harems where the MC was forced to live under the guise of a boy in an all-male boarding school. Some of them were even used as a basis for live action dramas.

This almost sounds like Ouran High School Host Club but witg vampires more tbh.

@texasfangirl1999 I'm not saying that vampire shoujo is an incredibly deep and intelligent genre, but it really surprises me that people are indulgent to it every time it's aimed at a female audience. Especially at a time when several male-oriented vampire shows were quite highly rated.

Oct 30, 2023 11:07 AM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert Yeah it's almost as though people seem to think that every vampire anime made for a female audience is a Twilight rip off and therefore none of them are worth taking seriously apparently

That being said I'm excited af for this anime, I've been wanting to read the manga and I need more vampire shoujo in my life so this was a great announcement to hear

@Maou_heika I find it funny that people are trying to mock this show because of Twilight just because it has a male vampire as a love interest for the girls. Apparently Twilight is both the creator and single inspiration of all vampire content, but not fanservice shows for male audiences.
