I found that the main characters of both (Zero Two and Hiro, Yuno and Yuuki) have very similar traits and characteristics that bring together their independent series'. Zero Two and Yuno have very passionate and goal-directed behaviour, whereas Hiro and Yuuki are both leaders in their own right (Yuuki falls into the category a lot later than Hiro though). And yes, each pair have the same hair colour.
If you loved the Romance in Mirai Nikki you will love Darling in the FranXX,for me it was a little difficult with the childish Robot-stuff, but if you hold on, you will feel the same as in Mirai Nikki.

They both have a strong romance line, with strange dominating pink-haired girl romancing the main protagonist.

the romance is very similar; a guy just trying to live his life and things aren't really going his way, then all of a sudden a bold girl with pink hair changes everything. Interestingly, the guy and girl have the same hair and eye colors. both yuno and 02 have similar personalities. Obviously yuno is much more of a yandere, but 02 has those moments where she goes crazy and does some aggressive things and is also madly in love with her darling in the middle of both shows, the SAME EXACT thing happens: the guy gets hurt as a result of the girl's overly ambitious actions,
