When I first started watching One Piece I thought "wow, this is like a mixture between DragonBall and Pokemon." - main characters are similar (kinda slow, don't give up, their hats, their hopes & dreams) - strong theme of friendship, dreams and never giving up - similar art style and very similar music - lots of travelling and seeing new places - each new crew member in One Piece is like a new Pokemon or team mate is Pokemon If you like Pokemon you will hopefully like One Piece and vice versa
Both are really underestimated shows, mostly because of their horrible dubbed versions. Generally, people won't watch One Piece because of the art (that evolves after, though) and the number of episodes, and Pokémon because in the mind of most people, Pokémon = childish. In short, both are great anime in their Japanese version, but are totally ruined by the Americans, turning them into childish and stupid shows.
• Both are long running series • In both the series MC and his crew goes to new places and makes new friends and enemies. • Both the MC have big dream one of them want to be a Pokemon master on the other hand another wants to become King of the Pirates. • Both the anime have perfect balance of serious and non seriousness in them.
Both are very long running adventures with over many generations that is very casual and comedic in tone featuring a young optimistic protag hoping to become the best of his passion, encountering many different people along the way with imaginative worldbuilding. They also feature similar art styles throughout( Such as how the earlier parts are in watercolor cells) and appeals to a wide age group, the main characters follows similar architypes.
