Both plots and events slowly descend into this blob of tragedy and loss. Both are bound to give the viewer a sense of confusion and discomfort, as it feels like so many knots have been left untied. Because the characters from both animes lose and suffer so much it feels impossible that anything will ever turn around for the better. Elfen Lied and Tokyo Ghoul mercilessly beats down on the characters to the point of no return, and don't even bother to resolve the problems and finish with a neat little bow on top. And in my humble opinion it's anime like those that really
