Both of these anime's fall under the horror, supernatural, and thriller genre! Both female protagonists have black haired, red eye color, and lack showing emotions. Both anime's have a big deal that revolve around the idea's of death and curses. And both are very entertaining and mystical to watch!
both are horror themed stories that have a young girl with supernatural powers in it and also lots of death as well too.

An overseer's perspective. Mei and Ai are both similar characters in which they play the silent overseer in the events that constantly unfolds around them. Though the stories vary a lot, Hell Girl and Another both deals with the deaths/driftings to hell of the magnitude of people. They are both experienced characters that silently follow their respective characters, Another being class 3-3 students, Hell Girl being the episodic characters. Both anime use these silent characters correctly to set their dishearting unfortunate atmospheres in. Though Another is more horrific, whilst Hell Girl is more psychological.
