This series has the same form: A boy who wants to be a champion on some leagues, that meets his non human partner on the first episode, some guys who are supporting him, they both live only with their mother, a group of guys who wants to steel Pokemons/medals (such as Robrobo group/team Rocket) and the most important - the leagues.

Pokemon and Medabots are shounen anime and they pretty much alike. Both anime's are about a boy, who lives alone with his mother, that gets a pokemon/medabot as their partner. They become friends and battle a lot with other people. They wanna become one of the best and to do so they participate into competitions. Both series also got some "bad guys" and they are complete idiots, they always lose in the end.

I feel like they both are similar when it comes to the structure of the series. Is about a boy, working out along his side with his partner, his best friend, making the friendship growing stronger and stronger, making them together stronger and stronger. Trying to beat everyone and win a championship. And then there is his mother who is so welcoming, warm, caring and always happy and cheering for her boy, and dont let us forget about his friends, who always tagging along and cheering for him on his journey. And let us def. not forget about the enemy, who always get

Both shows that tackled the ever popular monster taming kids anime genre. Whereas Pokemon was of course the breakout success of this phase, Medabots seemed to more struggle along, at least in the "west" it never quite became popular enough to stand alongside other similar shows. Both were originally games and these anime series take direct inspiration from those games.

If you watched 4-Kids network as a kid then you probably saw Pokemon and Medabots. Both are great kids shows that can stand the test of time. Both revolve around kids controlling their Pokemon/robot buddies to fight each other and participate in tournaments. Both, as always, have to end up saving the world at one point or another.
