If you just glance at the images of both, you have no idea what you're going to get out of each anime. They're actually pretty similar because they both have major and unexpected plot twists, both look happy at first glance but aren't, both have very dark themes, and both have supernatural elements. I think this is a pretty good recommendation because the unexpectedly dark style of the two anime can really get to you emotionally. If you like the dark emotional elements in one you will probably like the other.

Kinda funny one night how I realized how similar the themes are Can not get into the said topic because spoiler but the topic of "redo" are heavy in these character lives in terms of themes, plot relevance and overall character motivation that challenges pre-conceived ideologies and stereotypes in their own respective genres.

Even though at first they doesn't seem similar, both of them are very unexpected in a way that they seem to be a more relaxed kind of series. After 3 episodes (in both of them) you notice that it's the complete opposite tough, that's when they start showing what these animes are really about. Both of them are about the main characters getting frustrated, overwhealmed, desperate, over situations they feel powerless against. In both of them you end up putting yourself in the place of the main characters and you can actually feel their emotions, and that's what makes those extremely hard to rewatch (at least

Madoka deconstructs the mahou shoujo genre popularised by anime like Sailor Moon while Re:Zero deconstructs the isekai genre popularised by anime like SAO. Other deconstructive anime are Neon Genesis Evangelion (deconstructs mecha), Bokura no Hentai (deconstructs the otonotoko genre) and Digimon Tamers (deconstructs mon series)

Another thriller/psychological Horror involving time travel with mysteries abound!
Both are very original stories in a seemingly un-original setting Both have thrilling love stories involving time travel, and lots of psychology They both just give you that beautiful sense of despair, and heart wrenching scenes, and people protecting each other while fighting the adversity in a dark, disturbing world
What thing have in common Evangelion, Madoka Magica and Re:Zero? The three are a critic of their respective genres. The typical mecha anime show us a main character that is usually a hot-blooded teenager who gets in a robot and saves the world with it along with the power of love and friendship. In Evangelion we see that the idea of putting kids into giant robots is downright insane, a normal teenager can't be expected to mentally endure it. It is impossible to explain how Madoka is similar to Re:Zero without at least spoiling it's first major twist, and as it is of my opinion that Madoka is best experienced blind, I would highly recommend just taking my word for it that it's really good and just watching it, especially if you liked Re:Zero. These 2 series bring out the darkness of unrealistic things, which some of us wish for sometimes. Re:Zero brings out the darkness of being transported to a parallel fantasy world with cute girls, whereas Puella Magi brings out the darkness of being a magical girl who fights to save the world. These 2 series initially seem to to be lame, but as each episode passes, they become freaking amazing! There's always a lot more to them. Everything is logically explained. A lot of things might seem to shock you!
Its dark plotting what makes it so similar to each other...I highly recommend you guys watching both of these anime

Huge spoiler, but if you really enjoy this type of series like madoka and that one aspect of it, this one is a good watch
Both series take tropes that are familiar in their respective subgenres (isekai fantasy and magical girls, respectively) and twist them in dark and disturbing ways. Both feature time manipulation and deal with the theme that every action has consequences. Finally, both Re:Zero and Madoka combine many stylistic elements, being a blend of fantasy and psychological thriller anime.
Suffering. Madoka Magica and Re:Zero are both excellent examples of how true suffering should be portrayed. On the surface, both seem like a general story in their respective genres, though deeper in, they reveal that not everything goes according to expectations. Madoka Magica and Re:Zero takes innocent characters Subaru and the quintet of girls and press them in situations of absolute suffering and despair. While Madoka Magica is a story on what it is like to live life in those situations, Re:Zero is the embodiment of a fight against that kind of life. In which both anime lead to the same path of fighting fate.
