A boy and a girl on a quest of discovery go down a mysterious, seemingly endless pit to find out what's at the bottom, suffer a certain amount of body harm, and make (sometimes lose) some friends along the way. Cyborgs, alien technology, emotional gut-punches, and various forms of body modification may or may not be involved.
Made in abyss is quite similar, in tate no kuni, there's a tower they try to reach the bottom and in made in abyss there's a big hole and they try to reach the bottom, the 2 have a very interesting story full of mysteries (and they are very good) Tate no Kuni aka the vertical world is quick and good read I would recommand to almost everyone who liked made in abyss for its worldbuilding.
