Matsumoto Jiro will always be the greatest to me, even though it seems like he's running out of the fire that produced works like Freesia / Joshikouhei that are arguably manga nearly on the level of films like Taxi Driver, just pure art. But of course, he's said what he's had to, and those (near) masterpieces will live on forever, so I'm fine with reading stuff like... this, because it's still got bits of him inside.

Unnecessary drama ruins the mid-end.

It's a Shoujo that starts with all the good points: right amount of shyness from the FL, the ML is lovely and Very honest, the initial dramatic moments are solved in a good manner and are the cliches we already know so there's not much stress on waiting for things to turn out okay.

It has everything to be a solid 8, but it sadly gets into SUPER unnecessary and extremely unnerving drama at the highest point of the story. I couldn't believe what I was reading, it was a full volume of frustrating events right when everything could be finished beautifully ... 🙃.

In the end, it's indeed a mixed feeling between recommending something that starts pretty good, but gets close to the end and throws it all down the drain. I know it'll have a happy ending, we'll see the main couple happy and emotional about their feelings being mutual, but this ending could have happened by volume 7 already and save us from all the ridiculous drama. Oh well.

If you liked the show “Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai“ releasing right now in the spring season 2024, then this manga is for you if you want to delve deeper For more context on what happens on the side of the princesses. Pretty much the events are connected beautifully, where this manga focuses on what happens in the Sakura Palace side, whilst the anime is showing some of it as well as the main focus which is on the prince Wakamiya and his personal attendant.

To begin with, this is a must read, the overall narrative that happens in the Sakura palace between the women is ... engaging. I liked the chit-chat in this oeuvre. Although, historical dramas aren’t my forte but I’m confident that many people will enjoy it, the characters are fleshed out really well and you get sucked in immediately by the charm and seriousness of the plot.
There are a lot of amusing scenes like when the prince skips meetings with said princesses's that get them mad after getting duped by him whilst going elsewhere several times. At the same time the eventfulness in the palace is both exciting and memorable.

There are 4 princesses that compete against each other to be chosen by Prince Wakamiya. Said females will do anything to win him over. It is a slow burn series, that isn’t boring cause of the multitude of diverse personalities that clashes in a rich historical setting.

The art is gorgeous to look at, the backgrounds are vivid, and the execution is excellent which bring out the essence of human emotions really well. I liked the character designs a lot because of how much mature and expressive it looks. Additionally I personally loved the details done on the hair along with the facial expressions which is an artistic créme de la créme from my view point. Matsukzaki, Natsumi absolutely nailed it in my book.

The dialogues are not shallow nor dull, likewise This is a Compelling story that is character driven. Hence, it's what makes this work shine the most through its exquisite cast.

If you’re interested in a well done historical drama manga, In the same way that if you liked the anime “Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai“ you will adore it since Karasu ni Hitoe wa Niawanai adds a lot of details on the princesse’s part beside their goals which equates to more depth on the setting as well as substantial context to the events that are connected to the anime “Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai”.

This series is a hidden gem that deserves more attention imo.

OMG, this is so real and gripping! Can't stop reading this story. Loving the dynamics between all the characters. Not necessarily finding them cute or endearing but the story really makes you think about the early stages of a relationship. It delves into questions about adjusting to each other, the concept of couplehood in general, doubts, and attraction, all these relatable questions. I appreciate the maturity here, no shyness, characters fully experiencing their problems, joys and pains, making it so realistic. Falling in love isn't all cute, there's doubt and worries and this story captures it so well. The art style is just fantastic, total ... Seinen vibes, it's top-notch!

although it may be controversial this is a very good manga with great art and i know you will be thinking ewww i hate NTR well me too but the reason im giving this a high score is because this manga is divided into 3 different stories

I'm not a fan of NTR which is what half this manga is composed of (stories 1 and 2) but the other half which is story 3 is why this manga is worth a read in my opinion the art is very good even by normal manga standards and there is basically no NTR it's like if it was ... a whole new manga which is why i recommend it, if you're into NTR type of stuff well go ahead and read the whole thing

It's pretty criminal something like this has no reviews and only 143 people have this on their lists, especially for how popular the source material supposedly is in Japan, and even more so the fact that it has an official translation.

This thing is GOOD, probably one of the best things I read in the last few years aside from Man Without Talent, and I read a lot of trash, so I mean it. It starts out pretty innocuously, but every chapter it starts to ramp up the tension, and you'll really want to read the next chapter. The length is almost perfect, you can finish ... it in one sitting. My one gripe is I wish it were a tiny bit longer.

It's a Heian-ish period court drama that drapes itself in the possibility of being a romance, and then gradually reveals itself to be an intrigue plot that weaves the worldbuilding into your experience from the point of view of the main character. The initial framing for the plot is a very simple fish out of water thing: There are four main noble houses that compete for power by marrying off their eldest daughter to the next emperor, and the story takes place during this courting event, where you are placed in the point of view of the princess of the east, called Asebi, who has a sort of naivety from being very sheltered that allows for her interactions with everyone to teach you about how the world of the court actually works; however, as the story progresses, you start to see people aren't all they seem to say they are, and that there's more going on beyond the words they speak. Each named character (and many characters, no matter how side they seem, will be named) has their own motives, often selfish, and they all end up acting in ways that affect everyone involved, for better or for worse.

I don't want to write any more because there are some genuinely interesting twists and turns throughout the story, many of which will cause you to question what each person's true motives really are in the end. It's all killer, no filler, like a tight 100 minute movie, with none of that slice of life crap, just pure plot paced in a way that will get you to read the next chapter immediately.

My only issue is perhaps the pacing of the ending, it's sort of whiplashly, but that hardly hurts the overall experience.

The art is the reason I originally read it, because the plot is from the book, so if you're reading an adaptation you want something to really draw you in on first glance. For most of the things I read, the style is very important for me, and the stuff I really like tends to be 60-70s era Gekiga or Shoujo, if just for the linework.

The linework is great in this. Each character is drawn stylistically slightly different to accentuate not just their beauty, but also their character, and the princesses are beautifully drawn with such a strong attention to detail that it paradoxically reveals and hides who they really are beyond their words.

The princess of the east is drawn in this perpetually blushing or crying state, with mostly lighter shades that give her a certain "airiness" you get from that innocent shoujo girl style.
The princess of the north is highly detailed, down to the eyelash, like a porcelain doll, with a very strong black & white contrast to accentuate her "perfect" appearance
The princess of the south is rugged and masculinely handsome, with very strong angular linework and strong attention to the sheen of her hair.
The princess of the west has a round, plumpness to her and is always drawn with a lot of varying shades of black which sort of shows her attention to her appearance and style

Every panel that features them is absolutely gorgeous, and even if you're not into the plot, you should just look at the pictures.

All of the attendants are given more plainer, lighter linework, especially the older ones, who have a sort of scratchy, mapping pen, look to them, and background characters have a more conventional look to them.

I purely rate on my personal enjoyment, so for me it's a 9, probably objectively 8-8.5 for most people. You can read it in a day. Do it.

It's just average. Not amazing but definitely has elements that are below average. Functionally it's one of those manga's where the fights end up with people staring at each other monologuing (internal and external) about whatever until someone does something and someone gets one-shot. The pacing is both extremely fast and slow at the same time which is a feat in itself. Getting you as fast as possible to the next fight but then dragging it out by having flashbacks to just a little bit of what happened inbetween fights... but not enough to explain much of what's happening beyond how they got into said ... situation or provide a deus ex machina that was totally planned the whole time trust me bro.

I'll still read it for some of the action scenes because it doesn't shy away from the actual violence, but reading this for any other purpose is a exercise in wasting time.

By now it seems obvious that Saotome Yagi is just bad at wrapping up her storylines. Much like her other more prominent work ('Bokutachi wa Hanshoku wo Yameta'), this one starts out pretty intense. Thriller, drama, mystery - it has it all, and their mixture keeps you alert and on the edge.

Unfortunately, by the final third of volume 4 and throughout the final volume 5, it all goes downhill. The resolution of the main conflict is there, but it's weak and too jumbled. In no way does it match the intensity of the manga's earlier chapters.

Some people might dislike Saotome Yagi's art, but I dig ... it. There's quite a bit of facial reusing here (the main heroine has some resemblance to the 'Bokutachi wa...' FMC). Nevertheless, a lot of the drawings match the suspense and dread surrounding key plot points. Steamier scenes are also drawn decent enough.

Dunno. I'm a bit bummed out. This started out really promising and once more I'm forced to give a 'Mixed feelings' verdict to a work of hers. 5.5/10 to 6/10, but not more.

Shame - could have been an easy 7.5/10 were it not for the last volume and a half, and its weak closures and slightly absurd forced drama.

If you have some spare time, sure, go ahead and read it. It's a bit like eating plain bread because you're bored though.

I was having fun reading this manhwa especially it´s a bit mature, until they mentioned an asian islamic country, for what?? of course for terrorism. it´s funny how all the bad guys in the manhwa were mentioned only by `bad guys´ but not terrorist guys or terrorist groups from this or that country, even if they kill a lot of people. But somehow a groupe of side characters are presented from the first time as terrorist, why? because they are pakistani my friend.

steriotypes like that are just a sign of ignorance or even Islamophobia

Korean authors need to rise the level a bit cause this way ... of thinking is just spreading hate

Really like this, very wholesome. No annoying back and forth drama stuff, the main characters are really lovable. All in all, it's a reallyyy great manhwa, well written and thought through. 9/10. One less star because I just wish it was longer but hey, that's just me, lol. Although if it were longer and took another route to some drama city, I guess I wouldn't appreciate it either so.. in a sense, I guess I'm kind of relieved it's short and sweet? but "dil mange more" if you know what I mean. This is one of those shoujo ai / GLs I really appreciate- it's ... just pure joy, go ahead and read it, you definitely won't regret it.

I'm having mixed feelings about this. I love the story, it's a good pass for an hour or two, but the scenarios move on a tad bit too fast. Something that seems like it'll happen after 15 or 20 more chapters happens in 5 chapters. Plus, at the start, I had absolutely no idea what was happening. Though, I still like it because the characters have many filler chapters where they get to know each other more. (Not really filler because it contributes to the story.)

Overall, the story kept me excited, and I'm waiting for more!!)

I love Kanako Inuki. Her artwork is to die for, her mild cynicism is always on the mark, her works have a great sense of humor, and her characters are oftentimes very cute.

So I was disappointed that this collection was chosen by Kodansha USA to represent her.

Like so many other MAL geeks, I like to read entire series'. I can't stand that this collection packages random chapters from a bunch of Inuki's series' into a single volume, and that this is the only Inuki on my shelf. Forgive me, but if I'm being self-aware about it, it's just that i think its so fucking lame. ... I get that releasing something like this can test the waters and try to stir audience interest before taking the riskier business decision and releasing a whole series. But as an ashamedly pretentious reader, I feel that this to some extent compromises the integrity of each series. It waters them down. I know it's very impractical, but that's just how I feel as a fan. If I had taken more time at the comic shop to surf through the contents, I probably wouldn't have bought this book.

Now that I actually have some legitimate Japanese reading skills, I can enjoy something like Bukita-kun in full. But I regret that my strictly anglophone friends can't experience her great series' in this way.

So TL/DR - I highly recommend Kanako Inuki and the series that are featured in this book, but I don't like this book itself.



god MAL's advice for writing reviews is some of the whackest five-paragraph essay shit

Read it quite quickly. The art style, a bit comic like, is distinctive and fits the grim but sweet story being told. The gimmick, a person (Asako) capable of absorbing the last moment of a murder victim to the point of suffering their wounds, could have span multiple volumes but the story being told wasn't full enough for that. I expected a bit more from the murder case&the complex feelings of second handed love, but neither the plot nor the relationship got very complicated or twisted.
Obviously the center piece was the difficulty for both characters to know who they were caring for : the memory ... of the ex wife flowing through them, or each other ? I think it could have spawned more angst, especially with the gorish condition of Asako, spilling actual blood everytime he connects with her memory, but they were also two kind characters who tried their best to keep things separated and not take (too much) advantage of the situation. I liked the contrast between Asako and his childish, dreamy self, against a more manly, clear-headed Kuroiwa, though I would have loved to see the latter be more skeptical, and have the two of them struggle much more to understand the truth behind their sentiments, but ultimately they're both quick to accept the supernatural and work with it.
The more I write, the more I wish the story could have been given a third tome, but with the space allowed it managed to tell a good story, have nice moments and just enough blood and enigmas for a murder case. I recommend checking it out.

The first Manga I ever read. Honestly it is an addictive story. After every chapter it makes me more excited and curious about the next chapter. I personally loved it. The character scripting, dialogues and everything about it is truly top notch. I was so caught up with the story that I read about 30 chapters in a single day. I particularly love the U-20 and Neo-Egoist League part.
It truly is a story which depicts the true meaning of 'flow'. It shows us the passion one has or can have for a sport.
It makes one feel the story, pain and aggression of the ... characters to an extent that you will be so caught up in the story.
The way the MC 'Isagi Yoichi' develops himself into a world-class player throughout the chapters is truly amazing. the art of the Manga is quite interesting in itself.

A story of a less-competent individual who isn't fit for job and work cycle that he's been thrust into by his older brother. Now finding himself in a the immature schemes of a naively obsessed highschool girl that sort of accidentally helps him stop blaming himself.

It's short and sweet. It accomplishes in 19 chapters everything that 100+ chapters or more would of other manga. Just without the mountainous amounts of filler material or uncalled for drama. Does give off fetishy vibes though because of the obvious Master/Servant thing it dances around.

Ending is actually good for what it is. Anything else I feel would have ... been a little off-base and unfulfilling for this story.
Being short though it does leave less impact in you than something that takes the affordmentioned 100+ chapters to do the same thing. But I chalk that up to subconscious sunken cost. Do I want to remember Nisekoi 8 years after it ended? Not especially? Will I remember this in 8 years? Unlikely. But I'd still read it again if I'm reminded about it.

Let's start with the strong/unpopular opinions so people can react how they want to react and not have to spend all that time reading a review.

A. Initial D's Manga is only truly great after the anime.

B. Initial D's Anime looks dated as !@#$, and is not as good as the manga because of that.

C. A number of characters have "DSL" entirely too often (early on). Worse in the anime, but exists in both.

D. The romance sub-ploits SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED. They add absolutely nothing to the series and at best could have been limited to one race, but really ... shouldn't exist. And that includes every... single... one...

Honestly, do I have to review the manga? I've said what I really wanted to. Ok I'll do it anyways, or at least explain these points.

First off Initial D is about a Tofu delivery man who gets into the world of "Touge" racing, which is mountain course racing. Now let's get to the biggest, perhaps most important point about this entire series.

Physics don't exist in this world. Period. There's no universe where "drifting" is the fastest way to get down the mountain on every corner. There's no universe where a AE86 would be able to beat most cars it races against here. There's so much plot armor on Takumi Fujikawa that it's more of a question of "how" not "if" he'll win most races.

That being said I guess it's time for the big reveal. I LOVE THIS SERIES, but I do think there's important reasons why I love it.

First, The tv show was amazing when it first came out in the late 90s. It had CG models racing, an amazing Super Eurobeat sound track and just incredibly cool. But it's been over 20 years since then and... to be honest the anime has aged poorly, the cars look flat, the drawings are a bit weak, the animation is cheap by today's standard.

But I talk about the TV show because so much of my enjoyment of this series has revolved around the amazing Super Eurobeat soundtrack, if I wasn't listening to that while reading it, I probably couldn't enjoy it nearly as much. However the art of the cars in the manga is fantastic. The cars are extremely well detailed and while the first section of the books have the best story, the art by the final sections are brilliant.

The characters... I really feel like Ryosuke and Takumi look too similar after a while, a number of characters are forgettable because they have such generic designs and more... but that's not what you come to Initial D for... it's the racing, the cars, the battles, and that... that's where this anime shines.

In fact the only real problem I have with the second half of the books is that some chapters are just 8 pages of racing, and while it's a beautiful 8 pages... it's easy to just rip through these chapters like they're nothing...

There's a lot of story in the manga, and while Takumi's evolution does matter quite a bit, the relationship stuff (as mentioned before) is really the only bad part because there's so little point to it. I know there's a few things that happen related to the relationships, but... the relationships aren't really required to have those events happen.

Overall This is the series that made me fall in love with Racing, Touge, Driving, and Super Eurobeat and ultimately reading the entire series now just reminded me of all those epic amazing feelings. Maybe it's because it reminds me of when I was a kid, and this anime came out, but I don't know. I still think there's a lot of enjoyment to be had reading Initial D.

This series is WHY I turn on Super Eurobeat any time I'm playing a racing game... I know I know. That's the "Anime" But give it a shot when reading the manga too, you should understand.

And sorry, this is probably a rambling set of thoughts, but that's also kind of what I want my reviews to be. Hopefully it'll help you... or maybe it'll only help me finally stop thinking about this series every single day.

Mokke is one of the best slice of life manga that I've ever read.

The manga is about a pair of sisters in the countryside learning how to deal with their ability to see and attract supernatural beings like yokai, ghosts, spirits with the help of their grandpa. Their encounters with these beings are used to present a side of humanity that arises in a person or a group like anxiety or fear of failure, as they are attracted by our actions and thoughts. They are then exorcised by way of understanding them and performing the correct ritual, which are usually quite mundane like repeating a ... phrase or doing a move. This type of story has been done before in other manga, but Mokke's approach is much more subtle, grounded, and natural.

This is due to the manga's perspective. Instead of a knowledgeable wandering sage in Mushishi or (sort of) a chosen one in Natsume Yuujinchou, our protagonists are ordinary children who are reluctant and scared of their powers. Their supernatural abilities are treated as a difficult condition, something they must learn to live with. This feels much more natural to me because it's just like real life; you don't get to choose the cards you're dealt (read chapter 5). It also makes the sisters' struggles to help other people getting possessed feel much more genuine. The setting also plays a huge part in this atmosphere. The spirits are just there, out and about, ready to possess the nearest person. It's as if they're a part of nature's reaction to humanity and us humans have certain, detailed responses to these phenomena because we are also part of nature.

The spirits themselves are also chosen very tastefully from real myths and legends. I feel like the author really understands these myths and that's why they're incorporated so well into the characters' lives. There’s a sense of authenticity behind the references. It's especially impressive when the myths are combined with a parable. In other stories, it feels like the spirits were chosen just because they fit the author's story. In Mokke it feels like they just arise naturally (idk how else to describe this).

Finally, the characters are easily the best part. For something tagged only as an iyashikei, this manga has some of the best character drama I've ever seen. The main duo is perfect. The meek, feminine older sister who can see the spirits and the stubborn, tomboy younger sister who attracts spirits without being able to see them. They balance each other out very nicely like real sisters.

Their grandpa is also an integral part of the cast. He acts as a more realistic ‘wise old man’ character who’s willing to make hard decisions, providing tough guidance to the girls, sometimes forcing them to figure things out by themselves. This tough upbringing feels especially vivid when he refuses to help the girls with the spirits and we don’t know what kind of spirit it is. This is because some of them can kill you or put you in a lifelong coma, which creates a sense of risk that’s actually kinda scary even though I know the girls are going to be fine. Maybe I’m just too emotionally attached, but it feels like watching an actual kid treading through the dangers of life without any help.

My attachment can be attributed to the strong character development of the main duo. The sisters’ arcs are told slowly across a number of years and their growth stayed consistent despite the episodic chapters. The common formula of having an encounter with a spirit, relating it to the situation of the characters (or vice versa), then ending it with a moral lesson, is enhanced by the strong continuity and development of the characters. It never felt like the encounter was just 'another lesson learned' because there are subtle callbacks as the story goes. Their growth is not forgotten or prolonged without good reason. The lessons themselves aren’t always cut and dry, involving a degree of gray-ness which is where the parables come in. It’s not about good and evil, but about man and nature, which I guess is good and evil if you want to go deep into it.

Overall an amazing read for me. 9/10

For what purpose/10
It's a mini manga about more or less stockholme syndrome.
With a SUPER autistic human boy that you have to wonder how he even functions as a human and doesn't really learn anything and does the dumbest stuff on a whim that really makes you hate him.
A the female lead whos innocent beyond measure but physically repulsive and mistreated. Some bizarre shock-value implications near the end too for her that are just gross for the sake of being gross.
This was all purposely done.
And they ended on something akin to a cliffhanger AFTER wrapping the story up.

Looking at the author's other works he has some ... interesting ideas... but maybe... idk man. idk.

The initial concept in the first chapter of this short manga is interesting, and then in later chapters it gets even more interesting/"funny?"/weird. I do not heavily factor in the art-style when rating but I would say the art style is fine and the mc art style or rather concept is unique. For a 4-chapter work, the motivations of the characters are fleshed out well enough to not be flat. The only issue I really see is the length of the story because it is a bit short because the final event seemed a bit too rushed, but I appreciated that it was not too ... long for the concept to wear out its welcome.

I would definitely recommend and I am surprised this only has 63 members (at the moment).

This Manhwa is a Dream Come True for Gacha Gamers and Darkest Dungeon Fans.

it's Amazing! As a Gacha enthusiast and aspiring game dev, this manhwa is everything I've ever wanted. It perfectly blends the addictive Gacha mechanics I love with the combination of unforgiving permadeath feature of dungeon crawler and strategic hero management in Darkest Dungeon.

The game design in this manhwa is pure genius. It's got it all: Interesting Gacha system for gambling addicts, Idle game companied by deep AI-generated character progression, endless AI-generated dungeons with branching plot lines, a meaningful day/night cycle, and the best part is the permadeath. It's brutal, yes, but ... it adds the needed challenge and strategic depth that Gacha games ALWAYS lack. The world-building is immersive, and the idea that you can nurture a lowly 1-star hero into a 6-star powerhouse is incredibly appealing. It's the kind of game that could easily consume years life.

The story itself is solid. It's engaging, the power leveling is (mostly) fair, and the Gacha elements fit surprisingly well. While it could be a tad darker, that's a minor nitpick. I'd give the story alone an 8 out of 10.

My only major complaint? The dreaded pay-to-win system. (Can't they just make a live service subscription system like in FFXIV online?) If they could remove that, this game design would be truly flawless. However, even with that flaw, the incredible game concept alone pushes my rating to a 9 out of 10. It's a must-read for any gacha fan, especially those who've experienced the punishing depths of Darkest Dungeon. It was truly fun.

If there's ever a game with the combination of ->(Gacha games, Rimworld, Darkest Dungeon, Last Epoch). I'll be the first one to wishlist it. It's a wet dream for a perfect game.

I went into this already knowing what the plot wad going to be about for the most part since I had already watched the drama adaptation, which is one of my favourite bls, so my rating might be affected by that.

The plot is very standard shoujo, in this case though it's not necessarily a problem for mainly two reasons. First, the misunderstanding trope is very well utilised and it brings a breath of fresh air to the basic shoujo plots we see all the time; second it is so important to have simple stories like this with lgbtq+ characters. The strong point of kieta ... Hatsuki is that it manages to tell the story of two characters who happen to be part of the lgbtq+ community without making their sexuality the main focus of the story and most importantly without any kind of sexualization. Themes like coming out, accepting your own sexuality, homophobia are told in a very natural and genuine way that never falls into the overdramatization that we're usually shown in lgbtq+ stories. Now there are some moments where the story fell a bit flat, especially after the main big misunderstanding is solved, and some events feels like they are there just to take more time.

The cast is very likeable and the way their friendship is told is also very realistic, the whole group really feels like a real group of friends, so I thought the interaction between characters were well written; it really is a trip down the memory lane for people that are not In high school anymore. I also wish the characters were a bit more fleshed out since they don't get a lot of time outside of their love stories, especially considering that there are some hints about their passions etc. that I wanted to know more about. The character development on the other side is very good in my opinion and I feel like through that we're really shown the message the manga wants to convey.

The art is so pretty and it complements very well the whole vibe and atmosphere of the manga, there are a lot of typical shoujo backgrounds with bubbles e little lights but I always find those extremely cute so they weren't a problem for me. Overall it's a wholesome story about first loves that shows how crucial it is to communicate your feelings to other people whether they're your friends or your significant other, a story about taking action because you never know what the future might hold. If you enjoyed heartsotopper you're gonna like this one for sure, very simple but very good.

This needs a Harem tag!

To start off with this MC is NOT a kind, nice or even sympathetic people. He is SUPER manipulative and knows how to use everyone, he is fake and will use anyone and anything. Everyone around him is stupid, including the regressor which those two things made me want to drop it however I was rooting for character development or something. It will definitely not happen he is basically a evil MC.

As of chapter 16 he had 2 girls added to his future big harem. I had to search it up to make sure the manhwa didn't just give off the ... vibe and it is definitely a harem.

The art is hmm at times really good but at other times bad, bad to where you think "How could this be the same author"

Ridiculous harem comedy with some boring politics on the side. How are we supposed to take anything in this seriously when in the middle of battle they are making sex jokes? MC just walks around making goofy faces while every woman he encounters begs to be his slave. I don't think the author understands it's the world-building that's interesting, its not watching the MC build a slave harem. All the characters are absurd and one dimensional. It has none of the fun interactions you would expect from meeting alien cultures. Instead, we get 10 volumes of boring roman politics where the outcome is 100% predictable.

Great read for fans of Pokemon and anime/manga it gives an insight into the humble beginnings of the Pokemon franchise. Doesn't take that long and it's fun. It is very unique because there isn't much information out there about the early life of Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori. It's not fictional, it's factual to what actually happened. I really like how Ken shows the passage of time from dreaming like little kids to facing the real adult world and how many problems went in their way before they could even publish the game. How they had to work on other titles to keep the company ... afloat.

It is made by Ken Sugimori who wanted to be a mangaka before being consumed by the needs of the pokemon company.

- die romantische Beziehung des MC hat mich überhaupt nicht gefesselt (der Typ war ihr gegenüber immer ein Welpe, das nervte mich irgendwann)
- Kämpfe in Schwertform waren fast nie vorhanden und wenn, dann sehr kurz gehalten

Trotzdem war die Geschichte genau nach meinem Geschmack.
Ich werde sie sicherlich mal wieder lesen.

Pearl Boy is frustrating because it gave me blue balls and the ending pissed me the fuck off.

The last season is full of constant whiplash moments, it keeps getting darker and darker until it feels like you missed a chapter somewhere because how tf did we get to this point. Why is this a action series now, I thought this was a drama?

Most of the side characters that were prominent at during S1 and S2 get completely shoved to the side or their little subplots just seem to have been forgotten. SPEAKING OF FORGETTING, wtf happened to Dooshik midway through??? Again it feels like I ... missed a chapter somewhere, somewhere at the start of S2 he just like completely changes in almost every single way. His design, his personality, his reason for going to the countryside, it's all completely different.

My mind couldn't catch up with what the fuck was even happening anymore.

The sex scenes are ok, like they're fine I guess. They're not bad but not amazing or anything. Towards S3 we get a TON of scenes of the main pair fucking but it's usually always in the same way, and I just do not fucking like the designs so I can't get into it. The panty chapter was neat tho gotta say.

Last point, the designs. I do not like them. This is purely out of preference, my opinion is not law.

I just...I just do not like the lips.

Short review for a short manga!

‘Fuun kara no Saikyou Otoko’ is about young Siegfried, who was born EXTREMELY lucky - probably because there was a mistake and his last life was characterised by an absurd amount of misfortune. When he finally gets lucky and wakes up in a loving family, events pile up that make him want to become stronger - especially because he realises that his extreme luck can quickly throw him into dangerous situations.

My strongest impression of the manga came from its brevity. 13 chapters - although the individual chapters are quite long - are too few to get a detailed impression. ‘Fuun ... kara no Saikyou Otoko’ has potential and features a cute protagonist, but so far there is little more than hints at the world and story this manga wants to tell. Perhaps this is why it is noticeable that it does not shy away from sadder themes and scenes - for example, Siegfried has to experience a great misfortune at a young age. If the manga had more chapters, this would hardly be worth mentioning, but as it is, the manga gives the impression of not telling an ‘OP protagonist can do anything’ story.

Conclusion: I would wait to read it, but otherwise I have nothing to criticise here.

"The Fallen House of Ardan" is a typical example of trashy power fantasy manhwa. It doesn't offer anything particularly unique. The main character reincarnates and swiftly dominates everyone in his path, following a formulaic plotline that's been done countless times before. While this might appeal to fans of this genre, it doesn't bring anything new to the table.

The protagonist fits the mold of many others in similar manhwa, displaying confidence, arrogance, and pride, all backed up by his overwhelming skills. His journey to elevate his status feels predictable and lacks originality. However, there is some decent character development for supporting characters, which ... adds a bit of depth to the story.

The artwork is passable, nothing extraordinary but not terrible either. However, the biggest disappointment comes with the abrupt ending of the manhwa. It feels like the creators pulled the plug without proper closure, leaving readers hanging without explanation. This disrespectful treatment of the storyline is frustrating and leaves a sour taste.

Despite its flaws, "The Fallen House of Ardan" isn't entirely unreadable. It follows the typical tropes of the genre and may still be enjoyable for fans of trashy power fantasy manhwa. However, the unjust manner in which it was axed and its lack of originality make it difficult to recommend. I rate it 6/10 solely because it's on par with other generic manhwa in its genre and may still be readable for fans looking for something familiar.

This is a manga that quickly grows from an okay beginning to an intense story with meaningful characters, deep plots that mix action and intrigue, and absolutely no filler. Although it differs on many aspects, I did have the same feeling as when I read Fullmetal Alchemist or Kekkaishi, with the mix of shounen-style combat and the political scheming going on with multiple factions (past or present).

The star of the show is Mina Tepes, princess of a large vampire faction and founder of the first country where vampires could exist legally and in peace (hopefully coexisting with humans). Due to events in her past, she ... stopped growing while she was still very young, so she has a child-like appearence, but rest assured that you will *never* see her act cute or girlish. She's an experienced political leader, depicted as extrememy shrewd and showing a hard edge when necessary. In spite of this rather cold exterior, Mina doesn't lack in kindness and has a lot of depth. She quickly becomes a character that you care about. A lot.

The other protagonist is Akira, a high schooler but also a member of a faction that has sworn loyalty to Mina. As such, he acts as her bodyguard, but also a very close friend. It's not really a spoiler to say that a romance between them is going on. Akira is obvious devoted to Mina, but he still has agency of his own, and he's often shown taking intiatives and investigating… in other words being competent at his job.

The largest part of the story is about politics, betrayal and manipulation, with frequent action scenes to keep things smooth and engaging.
- negociations with the closest neighbour, Japan, to get the new vampire country accepted and recognized as something other than a threat, with a bit of social commentary about accepting refugees and taking responsiblity for past atrocities
- old feuds between vampire factions, with racism among vampires based on "pure blooded-ness"

The tone of the story has a foot in heroic territory and the other one in dark fantasy; on the one hand, main characters are likable heroes that have ideals and fight for them, on the other hand the world is harsh and political schemes have ugly consequences that aren't shied away from (including when the population is the target). That's what makes it a seinen rather than a shounen.

Aside from the two main characters, you have a large, but well-managed, cast of secondary characters. Many of them are well-developed, with agenda of their own and important roles to play, resulting in a network of consistent characters that serve the story.

As for the echii tag given to this manga, it's certainly justified, but it's never thoughtless. It's infrequent and mostly consistent with the story tone and character relationships. It helps that Mina, although she has a child-like body, always behaves like the harsh, blazé politician that she really is. Even when she allows herself to show a more open side of herself, she's still an adult in control. It also helps that Akira and Mina are extremely at ease with each other, so moments when they get to touch other are often shown as natural and "glossed over", avoiding a pointless ecchi depiction.

TL;DR: It's murder mystery with a nice take on the revenge theme, which is justified in this case due to how well the character's innocence and descent into despair is executed (although also because the villains are pretty one dimensional). It's still a nice, short read, both for the themes, but also the character's journey in itself.

Oh, the irony. I just finished (and reviewed) Ninja Kamui, an anime original about revenge, where the message is "revenge is bad" (because of course it is), and not soon after I find and finish this manga, where one of the messages happens to be: "revenge can be good". ... It would be pretty petty to constantly compare these 2 in terms of themes, especially since that wasn't the first time a revenge story is bland, so instead, I will highlight how the execution of the revenge theme is better in here compared to the usual "revenge is bad" in media. But before that, the artstyle.

Artstyle

I think's it's debatable what people think and see in it. On one hand, you have the typical pretty high school girls and a hot lawyer, so you could say the woman are sometimes sexualized, even the 2 protagonists, although you could argue that it helps the plot and characters, you could also argue if it could be shown in a different manner, but the way you look at it is based on your own interpretation (except the lawyer, which has at least one unnecessary scene where, to put it this way, you can admire her beauty). Also, some people may also think that the way the 2 girls are drawn can hurt their immersion, since the story puts the girls through some horrendous situations and it can give the impression that the tones of the character drawings and story don't match. On the other hand, I believe that, predominantly, the 2 girls were drawn cute in order to highlight their purity and innocence and how these two are slowly taken away as they become more sad apathetic and angry due to the painful experiences that they go through. Which brings me to the best part of the drawings: the emotions on the characters faces, especially the protags. The happiness, sadness, apathy and anger are beautifully drawn in detail, conveying the characters constant change of emotions, from the most "positive" ones, to the most "negative" ones (in quotes because they aren't inherently bad, but that's another topic).

Story

It's a murder mystery where the 2 main protags try to protect each other from the evils of their own respective lives, especially the ones surrounding Mako, which are involving sexuality.The mystery in itself is, indeed, interesting and catches your attention from the first chapter with it's shock value, but it's sometimes intentionally misleading with it's dialogue, making it seems like a character did something, while in reality it was someone else, when the story finally goes in detail into the scene. I wasn't really bothered by it, but it's still something worth pointing out since not everyone can accept this so easily.

The story can also be divisive in terms of it's content, since some people can tag the vile things that happen to the characters as misery porn and paint it in a negative light. I, for one, see the story from the perspective of two lonely innocent girls that are failed by their respective families, which make them go off the deep end in terms of their actions, especially since they have no adults in their lives that they can confide in or ask help from, so they try to do the best they can with the shitty lives that they have. The short term suffering that they go through may, perhaps, be over the top and unrealistic in some areas, but I do believe it drives the horror and desperation that they suffer because of their families across quite well, since we are shown plenty of good and happy moments of their lives, before and even when their lives take a turn for the worst, being a nice display of trust, friendship and innocence that makes the reader care more about the murder mystery and the characters, since we see how tight the protags bond is and how unfair their worlds are.

There is also a nice parallel between the family and societal situations of the 2 girls. While Mizuki's family is rich and has a high status, she always spends time alone at school and is burdened by the expectations that her family has for her future. Mako, instead, comes from a low income family that struggles with making money, while she does have friends at school. Regardless of which side of society they are on, they still go through a great deal of suffering, whether it's trying to become a slave to society's expectations or struggling to make ends meet, their lives and futures are still in the hands of the family that raises them. So because of that, they try to be in charge of their lives only with the guidance of each other, which ends pretty terrible for both of them, since they can't get help from outside of the bubble in which the two of them live.

The story can be summed up as "2 innocent friends try to deal with their life problems, but fail" (as we can see in the first chapter), which I really appreciated from a story, character and thematic perspective, as miserable as the experience was from an emotional standpoint, the only questionable parts are the lengths to which they suffer that may turn off some people because of that.

Themes

One of them I just touched upon, the failures of the adults and how irrelevant the societal status is to the suffering of the youth, since, while people may come from different backgrounds, they can still share the same feelings and suffering. While it's not specifically talked about, it is subtly present in each chapter and on their journey to make the best of their lives and it is appreciated, although some more focus on it would help it even more.

Then there is the usual friendship theme, written from the perspective of "how far would you be willing to go for your friend? (in terms of actions)". This part is more focused on the main protagonist that the story is seen from, seeing Mizuki go through hell and risk her life time and time again for Mako was very endearing to see, hardly anything can top what she does for her friend and it's executed pretty well, although, again, it could have been a bit better if we would have seen the same thing from Mako and for a longer time.

There is also the failure of the judiciar system that is present in the story and how it can't protect it's victims and the real culprits. If you played the Judgment series (Judgment/Lost Judgment) or if you are aware of the judiciar system in Japan, this is also a great example of the type of negative stories that you hear about it's failures to catch the real culprits, often opting for easy solutions, as in sentencing the most suspect guy, without concrete evidence. While it wasn't really talked about, it was a nice addition to show the incompetence of adults (and it's justice system).

And now the revenge:
Non spoilery information: The manga showcases how not everyone has the capacity to go on with their lives as victims while the culprits don't get their punishment, so it shows how revenge is the only way they can see a future. The usual revenge stories have strong characters that get over it, but here we have lonely, abandoned high school girls that have no guidance or people that can help them and revenge is the only way they have to get rid of their tormentors. It's executed pretty well and believable, so yea, revenge is good in this case, for the peace of the 2 girls.

STORY SPOILER, full version:
So what happens in the story is that the protagonist, awaiting her trial, uses the two lawyers in order to avenge her friend by giving them information that would point towards Mako's stalker as being a criminal and also tries to harm Mako's father for his involvement in the story. While plenty of other stories would have went with the route that the lawyers notice that something is wrong with Mizuki, this doesn't happen here. And because of that Mizuki manages to avenge her friend by putting her stalker in jail for stalking and owning illegal substances (where he becomes insane, ruining his whole life). Not to be misunderstood though, he is responsible for Mako's suicide and also for some vile things, such as selling tapes of the 2 of them banging to others, including her family (for money). By doing this, Mizuki gets her revenge, but also willingly spends from 9 to 14 years in jail for the murder of Mako and for hiding the body of her uncle, which she chose to accept in order to avenge her friend and bring one of the villains to justice. In the end, revenge was seen as the right choice and a good thing from the perspective of the 2 girls who greatly suffered from the actions of people that would hardly, if ever, get found as guilty for their actions. In comparison, many stories, including some that are supposed to be for "mature" audiences, go with the whole "it's not right to take the life of someone", "he must be punished by law to serve his sentence", "eye for an eye makes the world go blind" etc., which is a pretty tired plot at this point, with nothing new to show for it and doesn't do the theme justice, especially as this manga does (well, there is also Vinland Saga, at least). But what if he can't be proven guilty? What if this is the only way for the characters/people (as far as they can see) to find a little peace in their miserable lives where they were constantly the victims of others? Well, this story lets the characters murder (only one character) and ruin other people's lives and it's completely justified. The two girls were betrayed by the adults in their lives and both lost their innocence, happiness and futures because of them. And that's why it works so well in the story, we saw their gradual descent into apathy, sadness and anger and they are more than justified to feel and wish upon their eternal suffering. Sure, some people may have it in them to go forward with their lives even after someone did horrendous things to them, and these are the type of people that we usually see in other stories. In this case, we are talking about broken high school girls who have no guidance in their lives, that see no future while the people that made them suffer are still in liberty (either alive or dead) and I do believe that the story executed this theme very well and convincingly, although it was a bit exaggerated.

Characters

I already touched upon everything that had to be said about the 2 protagonists, so I don't think there is anything new I can add here. They are good, innocent girls that are ruined by the people around them, going from cheerful and full of life to mainly sadness and apathy, as much as they try to hold on to the good side of them Their dynamic and moments are a pleasure to watch, since both we and they get a break from all the misery that surrounds them, which helps humanize them by having a look into their normal lives while there is only the two of them, but it also helps us empathize and care about them more, since we see in the first chapter how bad their lives ended up.

Then you have 2 one dimensional villains that enjoy the suffering of specifically one of the girls just because, or rather, to get the point of revenge being something good across more easily. Then there is another one, who I can at least understand, since he kind of doesn't have a choice (still ain't excusable though).

There is also a pair of lawyers that are decent human beings, but they aren't too relevant and we don't see much of their character, but having at least 2 adults in the story that try to do their best and help Mizuki was a good addition to the cast and story.
Regardless the story focuses on the 2 girls relationships and how the adults ruin their lives (well, one of them is still in his twenties, but you get the point).

Conclusion
This was a satisfying read, can't really call it enjoyable since it's pretty miserable, it can be compared to Punpun, in this regard. There is a bit lack of depth and time which the story could only benefit from, but overall, I think it got the themes across, at least at a decent level, and the characters journey was a nice look into the loss of innocence and happiness of 2 high school girls that are victims of their circumstances.

Starts out promising but quickly loses focus and descends into mediocrity. The premise has potential and the story beats are fine but the writing is severely lacking on a technical level, most notably in the web novel. The light novel is better but not free of the issues, and apparently has numerous inaccurate translations. In both stories it feels like the story quickly loses its broader direction. Dialogue is often boring or painful to read, the endless flirty banter does nothing to establish sympathy or connection to the characters. Many locations give the impression of existing only as a backdrop for character actions, without establishing ... context in a broader world that would give the actions meaning. Antagonists are given annoying verbal tics to use in every line, undermining any emotions their presence ought to convey. Subaru and other characters are given bursts of meaningful and well-motivated character development, some of which are very good, but their infrequency and the surrounding filler makes them difficult to appreciate. All of this makes the experience of reading incoherent – the main cast fights the arc’s villains in a set of disconnected locations that don’t feel like part of a broader world, and for reasons which are only nebulously connected to a long-term objective. After ~7000 pages I don’t remember any lines, descriptions, or locations that particularly stood out to me. Ultimately the good just doesn’t come close to justifying the length. The main cast is memorable, but I don’t have much interesting in seeing the continuation of their story. A good editor could probably cut 2/3 of the web novel content and a good translator could probably rewrite the rest into something pretty good. As it is, it varies from mostly unimpressive (light novels) to often unreadable (web novel).
The light novels are a ‘mixed feelings’, if you like the idea of Re:Zero and don’t take issue with some of the aspects of the writing I did you might really enjoy them. A lot of people certainly seem to. The web novel is a definitive ‘not recommended’.


Disclaimer:
My opinion might change on this, this review replaces a previous different one and though I skimmed back through some light novel and web novel volumes to refresh my memory it’s been a while since I read from the start through Arc 6. I also switched to the web novel pretty early, maybe the later light novels improve. I might give Arc 7 a try when the light novels come out, and I could change my mind.

Dungeon Meshi is what I call a "proper" manga. It has a story. It has its genres like comedy + fantasy. It sticks to its strengths throughout the series with a very satisfying ending. All the characters have their own stories and motivations. And it also has an overarching principle of "To live is to eat". It is a well rounded package and very easy to recommend.

I should probably warn you that the series takes almost 30 chapters before getting into the real plot progress. They are still quality chapters and do a LOT of world building with intricate details of dungeon ecosystem. We ... learn about a lot of monster species and how to deal with those monsters. There's also a lot of hilarious moments. We get to know our characters throughout these 30 chapters. And once we have setup the world properly (with a lot of hints being dropped throughout), we get into the meat of the story.

And once the pace picks up, it never drops the ball. The story definitely gets a little messy during the later stages, but the author manages to maintain decent pacing. The comedy makes sure that every chapter has *something* to give you immediate reward, and the plot's mystery keeps you hooked for the long term. Although, I am not much of a fantasy fan, I still appreciate a proper written fantasy. Most other "fantasy" manga are just Isekai settings like demon lord, hero, OP magic, maybe advanced civilization, elves, dwarves etc.. But this manga actually focuses on building the world with a lot of detail.

If you are not into the comedy, it would probably be very hard to keep going through the first half of this series. So, please read 3-4 chapters and decide for yourself if the comedy is to your taste.

After reading through 6 volumes i can say that: Saga of Tanya has one of the most interesting storylines.

Fighting against the workings of the world?
Opposing a (self righteous) God?
being an antihero?
Using the Power of hatred against people?
Serving through dire conditions?
Manipulating politics?
Deitailed Magic system?

... it has it all, its great.

Yet, amidst this chaos, the series also shines a spotlight on the intricate dance of politics, where manipulation and cunning are as deadly as any weapon. Its distinct ideological stance sets it apart, prompting readers to grapple with the complexities of morality and the consequences of power. While the antagonist's motivations may falter in comparison to the richness of Tanya's character arc, the overarching narrative remains a compelling exploration of human nature and the pursuit of dominance.

Although, the motivation of the antagonist of the series is quite lame imo. Sonzai X gains nothing from tanya being a hater/ or a believer. Whatever Tanya does nothing will change in Sonzai X life. The god in Youjo Senki is purely just petty and self righteous without a good motivation. He just wanna see the main character suffer over and over again.

Historical accuracy is meticulously maintained, lending an air of authenticity to the sprawling narrative that spans across Europe and beyond. The brutality of war is vividly depicted, with visceral and intense combat. Strategy is barely mentioned, even if it's mentioned it isn't important. The fight scenes are cool, and people fight until only one is standing. The direness, and the "breath of death" can be felt as you read.


Moreover, the series navigates through a myriad of socio-political issues, inviting readers to think about the nuances of religion, anti-religion, communism, nationalism, and beyond. It presents conflicting ideologies, each with its own merits and flaws, leaving readers to ponder their own stance between them.

Tanya's winter battle in volume 6 stands as a testament to the series' ability to evoke the harrowing realities of war, where death and suffering lurk around every corner. Vol 6 shows the utter destruction of war, on the land and on people, people starve to death and freeze as they march into the nothingness of the snow.

In essence, Saga of Tanya the Evil is a must-read for history enthusiasts and anyone drawn to thought-provoking narratives. While its heavy focus on military strategy may not appeal to everyone, its gripping storytelling and profound thematic depth make it a standout gem in the world of literature and anime.

TL:DR - a good story cut down before it really started

I can't recommend this unfortunately because it was cancelled long before it got to it's actual end.

The characters are endearing, the main character is likeable even if he is a bit of a tropey shounen protaganist. The side characters are endearing and they have backstory to be explored.

The fantasy world is interesting. A setting where humanity has essentially been defeated and monsters taking over is not something I've seen before.

The story moves forward, picking up new recurring characters and properly introduces some real antagonists along with an intriguing mystery.

And right when it really picks up, ... it rushes through the story that was supposed to happen it four pages, and it ends. Yup, it's another good manga cancelled. It wasn't amazing at the start but it was picking up steam and I felt it was going to get better but guess we'll never know.

There isn't really a satisfying ending and the journey was killed before it ever started so I don't recommend reading this.

At first, Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku, or The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, seems like a normal slice of life rom-com story with a mediocre plot. The male lead and female lead go to two different schools, Chidori High and Kikyo Academy, that seemingly despite one another, however, alongside this plot, the story has developed into something much more incredible than first expected, it’s one of the best ongoing stories in romance.

First off, this series is incredibly wholesome, it’s such a sweet read. It has such a comforting feel, and this feel comes from every aspect of the manga. The characters are likely ... the best part of this manga. Each character is written with so much intention and detail and it’s amazing to see all the characters interact with each other, especially how they develop and eventually become friends despite being ‘enemies’ from different schools. The friend group that developed between the schools is so precious and it makes a reader emphasize and relate, in a way, to the story. The manga is paced well, from the romance to the more serious topics explored in the manga. Whether it’s the feeling of acceptance, being left out, being too late, or being able to finally move on, so many aspects of human life are examined in the story, and it feels so realistic, almost to the point where a reader would feel like they are a part of the story. The character development in the story is extremely well written, as a reader who followed the manga from the beginning chapters to where it is now, it truly is inspiring to see the development each character has gone through.

Even though romance is the main part of the story, the regular SoL aspects of the story seem to be just as important as the romance. The characters' interactions feel very human, which again emphasizes the feeling of relatability. In terms of romance, the romance between the main characters is so precious. They interact and work so well together, and it’s so cute to see them together. There’s a potential for side ships to start to develop too. There also isn’t a ‘villain’/second lead in this manga, when it comes to the romance of the main characters, which simply goes to show how extremely well written this manga is as it doesn’t have to derive its romance story based on one the bad things that may happen from a ‘villain’/second lead.

The manga doesn’t disappoint in its art and it’s visually pleasing. Both minor and major details are well managed, and the paneling is smooth. There are such beautifully drawn moments throughout the manga, the close-ups of the characters are drawn extremely well, and the art style just fits the storytelling perfectly.

Saka Mikami has created a story that has developed to become one of the best romance stories in manga. This romance story is truly one of the best out there. Anyone that can, should read it, as it’s something that everyone should read. Personally, this manga is a masterpiece.

As an avid yuri fan, I recommend this manga to other avid yuri fans. For a work involving quite literal prostitution, it's surprisingly wholesome.

I won't spoil the plot, obviously, but if you expect it to be dirty, I have bad news. It's not very dirty. Instead, it's a very sweet and occasionally melodramatic story about true love and all the obstacles that it has to overcome. Although, I must admit, those obstacles are usually comically exaggerated. It's very light-hearted and reasonably paced. The art is nothing to write home about, but it's quite decent, as far as I can judge.

By all means, it's not ... a masterpiece, but it's a pleasant read if you're into yuri, because it's very, very yuri. You could get your morning yuri dose from this manga alone. I guess you could get the idea from the sheer number of times I said "yuri" in this review.

Worth to read after watched the Anime Season 1... It is continuation for sure.

Nayuta Kani, one of my favorite female protagonist (after watched the anime version year back), her characteristic and the nonsenses (extreme than Aqua from Konosuba), this time in this manga, her nonsenses are more ... aggressive and funniest.

Itsuki Hashima as usual himself, cold as always. His character remain awesome also.

It is underwhelmed and underrated manga, the comedic storyline and plot also aligned.

Overall, its is worth to read.

I've read a few of Asano's works and was particularly impressed by Oyasumi Punpun, therefore I decided to give Nijigahara Holograph a read after reading the premise on MAL. Finished it in one night as it is a relatively brief manga, and my GOD was I disappointed.

The troubling thing about it is that Asano really knows how to structure a manga- the way the panels are laid out, the use of visuals, the narration - he is really REALLY good at it. Thus its disappointing that he would use his talent to write such a miserable and confusing manga. I will start by discussing my ... 'confusing' allegation - the story is just SO unclear. The manga flits between timelines, from when the plot's main incident happened (a girl, Arie, being thrown down a well by her classmates) and the events around ten years later, however it can be unclear which timeline you are in. Asano has a very unique art style but I do find that his characters look very similar, thus with the flitting timelines I found it difficult to work out which male character was who at first. The manga also leaves a lot to the imagination, I later discovered after reading a few reviews that one character died however this was barely implied in the panels.

Now to my other assertion - that this manga is so utterly miserable. I don't recall even a page where it is not absolutely depressing. It is almost as if this manga is written purely to depress the reader, with violence, torture, incest, rape and abuse being seen innumerable times - baring in mind this manga is only one volume long, that is a LOT of disturbing content. I understand that the trauma of the events from the well incident would undoubtedly leave psychological scars on the characters, however the fact that such an insane amount of suffering is inflicted in one tiny town is not only bleak but also just ridiculous.

Don't even get me started on the characters, who are ALL the most unlikeable people on the planet. The only decent human being in the whole tale is Narumi, who one of the main characters Amahiko treats like absolute dog poo - another depressing facet to the story. Aside from Narumi (and you could also argue Maki as an adult), every single character is morally bankrupt, nasty and sociopathic. I hate them all, but Amahiko particularly grinds my gears. And I haven't even mentioned the paedophile! Oh wait, that's right there isn't even just ONE paedophile. A truly heinous group of characters.

In conclusion, I would not recommend this manga at all. Asano has talent it is clear, but this most certainly is not a good read, unless you enjoy and feed off utter misery. If you do read this, you'll find yourself having to google 'Nijigahara Holograph explained' due to its incohesive storytelling and you'll also need to buy yourself some chocolate just to cheer up after such a dismal misery-fest. Such a promising premise, horrid execution, I may need therapy after reading such a loathsome tale.

Shinai naru Boke e Satsui wo Komete is gripping, thrilling and unputdownable.

The slow build-up of the first volume creates massive intrigue and from there on the series is a wild rollercoaster with shocking twists and turns every couple of chapters. What this manga does rather well is that rarely these twists are expected (in my case, at least). Whilst surprising, these twists are written so well that they end up making complete sense and being cohesive within the story, which I've found other mangas fail to do when trying to 'shock'. The way that many chapters end on a cliff-hanger makes the story incredibly addictive ... and the pace and fantastic narrative add to this.

I really like the characters in this story and they are all incredibly individual. The art is gorgeous but does not hesitate from being grotesque and frightening when the story demands it. I admire how the story tackles dark themes without being overly bleak and disturbing, a hard line to navigate.

I would highly recommend this for anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers and the 'amnesia' genre.

Kuragehime is one of the most splendid manga I’ve read. Instead of a typical female protagonist, Kuragehime follows Tsukimi, a man-fearing otaku obsessed with jellyfish living in a girls dormitory with similarly antisocial otaku. Tsukimi’s life changes when she meets Kuranosuke (or Kurako) a cross-dressing rich boy who through a series of events ends up starting a fashion line with her and the rest of AMARS, the residents of the dorm.

Each chapter brought me joy and laughter, yet the plot was so fun and intriguing that I would always say to myself “just one more chapter!” (And then proceed to read five more!!!!!!!!)

This is a ... truly unusual manga and I really had no idea what was going to happen next in the best possible way. The characters are so loveable and the art is very pretty and unique, overall I would highly recommend!!

Genuinely this is good junkfood. It has a fairly basic magic high school plot with somewhat overpowered mc, but the survival element is actually sick. Too little chapters out rn (23) though, id wait till at least 50. There are romance elements, but mc kinda ignores it, a least rn. It is a decent trash mahwua. prlly around a 7 but its an 8 for me.

Junji Ito meets Animorphs. And its pretty fucking cool.

I agree with the public fanfare about Dear Anenome being both trope heavy and not that scary. But it's worth a read for the sheer thrill of the artstyle alone. Harkening back to Junji, a lot of his stories rely more on coolness factor rather than creep factor, which is exemplified through each page flip here too. Its unique monster designs and real life biology lessons are also a treat. The animal biology is based on real life biology, so this is a great manga for zoology enthusiasts as well. I'm curious to see where this manga ... goes and will continue to support it as time goes on.

Wholesome, cute and vanilla is what this one is all about. However it's too short in my opinion, i needed more of the dark skinned elf, she was so wholesome and hot. This gave me a warm fuzzy feeling when i finished it, i recommend it for anyone looking for a quick and very good short read,

Okay, so…

I’m not usually one to complain about fanservice in animanga. I’m not a fan, but complaining about fanservice is like talking to a brick wall. It’s just part of the story, so if you don’t like it, either ignore it or don’t read it. At the end of the day, it’s not real nor ... worth throwing a fit over. Even if the fanservice goes beyond panty shots and bouncing boobs and wanders into the more…uncomfortable variety.

However, with Black Butler I just…can’t ignore it. Not only is the fanservice of a more outwardly uncomfortable fetish (the shotacon audience is eating it up), but it seems to eclipse the story.

Have whatever fetishes you want. It’s not real and as long as you’re not hurting anyone, I don’t care. However I do think it lowers the quality of the story if the fetish content is so present it distracts me from what’s actually going on.

Actually, considering the homoerotic relationship between a young boy and his devoted demon butler is the very premise of the story, it oftentimes feels like the story exists just to be a vessel for the author’s fetish.

And because it’s just a manga, I don’t personally care that I find this fetish uncomfortable or weird (again, do whatever you want so long as no one’s getting hurt) I just find it…distracting and awkward. It feels like it takes over the story.

And this isn’t just because of all of the shots of a young boy being leered at by the camera. It’s also because of the usage of sexual violence in the story.

I’m not against using sexual violence in stories. Rape happens and no topic should be taboo to write about. But in Black Butler, the sexual violence feels egregious.

The young male protagonist is constantly groped and ogled, and has rape written into his backstory. Half the time it’s played for comedy (which is already in very poor taste) and the other half of the time it’s taken seriously. I find it very hard to take sexual violence seriously if you treat it like a joke half of the time. Moreover, when it is taken seriously, it feels…cheap.

Every time this young boy faces serious sexual violence, it feels almost lazy. Ignoring that the rate at which it happens feels very contrived, it often feels like sexual violence just did not need to be here, and was only put here as a quick way to up the drama and the angst factor. Either that or the author just likes to watch little boys be hurt sexually.

And no matter how personally uncomfortable I am aside, it just bogs down the story by being really awkward, forced, and lazy.

I love the idea of Black Butler, but the egregious fanservice and frequent cheap usage of sexual violence really pulls me out of it. It’s not just uncomfortable, it makes the story itself clunky and weird. These pages could be better spent advancing the plot (because oh yeah, the arcs have a bit of a pacing problem as well. No wonder it’s been running for so long).

And that’s without mentioning other common complaints about the series, such as the insensitivity with which a transgender female character is handled.

I’m not here to tell you what you are and aren’t allowed to like, nor am I here with a torch and a pitchfork claiming Black Butler is immoral and should be burned/banned/censored/etc. it’s just a manga. What I am here to say is that these factors spoil the story for me, which I think is quite a shame.

Narrative and Production style: Just like any Asano work, this one is a wild, complex, intriguing and thought provoking art piece. But unlike the others, until now, the narrative is mostly straight forward. When the story starts to branch in new directions, instead of creating a new plot point, it just introduces to the reader new characters that follow the main story and helps the writer to define a stronger sense of development to the manga. It's A LOT more action packed than his other works, but the action is so well paced in each panel, it's almost like it's being animated or that you ... are reading some sort of extremelly detailed storyboard for an action sequence, which it's just as brilliant as it's captivating since it reproduces the essence of action in a couple of still images.

Story/Plot: It's deep, as always really creative and original concept into play with all the social dilemmas with it. You can feel that it's building up to some really emotional and enlightened arc. I won't say much because I don't want to ruin the experience, just go read the first to second chapter and you will be hooked.

Art Style: You can tell it's an Asano manga, but at the same time you can also notice how his art style has developed over the years and is now peaking. Stronger, more defined and chunky lines help to create a sense of movement for the amazing action panels while the more dark and gruesome choices of full black come into play to present a darker tone as if it's own narrative it's now reflecting in it's own art.

As of this is written there's only 12 chapters, I shall improve this review as it goes. But you should read it, RIGHT NOW.

I procrastinated reading this book until it was last on my list, but when I finally picked it up, I realized I had overlooked a hidden gem.

What I found most appealing is the plot and our main character. From being bedridden due to trauma to developing an unbreakable will that leads him down an unknown path, filled with reliable friends and a journey that encourages continuous development and growth.

The side characters also enhance the story, each interesting and unique. The narrative bravely addresses the experience of depression or trauma and suddenly finding the strength to achieve the unimaginable, with loving and supportive friends and family ... present during challenging times, pushing oneself forward despite setbacks. This might home for some but have no fear, the author doesn’t dwell on the sad parts, this is just necessary to understand our MC more.

This Manhwa is written and expressed excellently. I'd like to share more details, but I don't want to spoil it.

In any case, Ruru/Lulu the cat is awesome. I highly recommend this masterpiece.

The synopsis tells us the whole guild ganged up on him BUT it also tells us that HE himself challenged the WHOLE GUILD. There’s nothing unfair about that when it’s your idea…..right?

~The MC doesn’t have a good reason for his revenge to be honest.
~MC hates the previous no.1 for things he can easily do himself right now.
~We only see fights and training and fights and training and…
~No character development, MC is unlikeable.
~ We have no idea what his life in the real world is like, that’s okay, but his life in the game isn’t interesting either.
~ The power system is extremely chaotic. ... How many more 3 paged essays do we have to read for every single power up + title that barely does anything??

All in all, if you want to see only fights and training with no relevant story whatsoever, then is for you.

If not… RUN lol. Would not recommend.

I'm genuinely so shocked at how beautifully written this manga is, i dived in thinking it'll be a decent time killer but damn the characters have so much depth, their interactions with each other are so brilliantly fleshed out, they feel so real. All of their worries feel so properly grounded, the themes feel so realistic, the last arc especially was really great we saw character development for characters we met like 5 chapters ago.
The only weak part of this manga is the start, it has a comparatively slow and generic start, if you can get past that you're in for a shitton of ... enjoyment.
The best part of this manga is easily the chemistry between the main duo, the stinky fakeness that isekai female main characters usually have is nowhere to be seen. Theyre both their own people with their own dreams and desires, the banter between them feels extremely realistic and honestly adorable. You can easily see how much thought the author has poured into everyones motivations and character, no one feels like a cardboard cut out stereotype. In terms of numbers for me its

Something different is that our MC is already from fantasy word, so no truck-kun in this one. That is kinda refreshing. Other things were not that innovative but done well. Aftere first "average" setting, there are some surprises later in the story.
