Honestly the best place to start with TYPE-MOON anime-wise as of right now.

Starting with Fate/stay night or Fate/Zero is fine, but Kara no Kyoukai: the Garden of sinners is a good starting point to begin understanding the Nasuverse and its mechanics.


Do NOT watch in chronological order; please watch the series as listed here (release order/numerical order) as the story is purposefully structured in a specific way. Also, NO movie is skippable, no matter what some people say about some movies feeling like filler.


Avaiable on Crunchyroll, BUT I HIGHLY recommend watching elsewhere that use the Japanese Blu-rays because the Crunchyroll versions censor copyrighted music/audio.

Optional:
Fun chibi stop-motion shorts that were shown before each respective movie, I recommend watching each short immediately before each of their respective movies.

Optional, but highly recommended:
"Gate of Seventh Heaven" re-edits scenes from Movies 1-6 in chronological order with each movie recapped in almost an AMV style. Not only can watching this help with digesting the story so far up to Movie 6, but it also expands on some thematic aspects of Movie 6 and acts as a very nice prologue before watching Movie 7.

Optional:
Fun chibi stop-motion short that was shown before Mirai Fukuin/recalled out summer, I recommend watching it immediately before watching Mirai Fukuin.

The final Kara no Kyoukai movie.

If you want to finish watching Kara no Kyoukai more conclusively, you might want to watch Extra Chorus before watching this.

DO NOT WATCH THIS ANIME, PLEASE just either read the visual novel or the manga instead, and pray that ufotable eventually comes through with an anime adaptation (copium).

This doesn't require any download and has several quality of life improvements like a modern UI, the ability to swap between different OST versions, and exportable saves.

Otherwise, this is basically a placeholder for a different way to experience Tsukihime. Do not skip Tsukihime in general though because it's one of TYPE-MOON's 4 cornerstones alongside Kara no Kyoukai, Fate/stay night, and Mahoutsukai no Yoru.

You can also READ this after finishing Fate/stay night and Fate/Zero if you would like.

An adaptation of the 1st route of Fate/stay night, the "Fate" route.


Yeah, if you did an ounce of research before getting into Fate/the Nasuverse, you would know that Studio DEEN's 2006 adaptation is very flawed, but I still believe it's worth watching because of how Fate/stay night's story is structured.

However, I personally highly recommend finding the fan edit that tries to edit it more closely to the visual novel though; a quick Google search will be your friend.
(Hint: it's a Reddit post by ssjokg. ssjokg replaces the first couple of episodes with equivalents from ufotable's Unlimited Blade Works adaptation because they're technically better adaptations of the visual novel. However, this likely will give you major whiplash in tone, animation, and just overall consistency, so I recommend skipping ssjokg's Episodes 0-2, watching the original Episodes 1-3 unedited, and then continuing with his "Episode 3 v2".)

If you decide to watch the normal 24 episodes as-is though, watching Fate/Zero next before moving on to UBW is perfectly okay, in my opinion.

Also, if ufotable ever comes through with re-adapting the Fate route, DEEN's 2006 adaptation can finally become optional, and the Fate/stay night watch order debate will finally come to an end (also copium).


Available on HIDIVE and Hulu, but watching with fansubs might be better for the sake of terminology consistency as DEEN 2006 is licensed by Sentai while most other Fate works are licensed by Aniplex.

MANDATORY before starting UBW:
This is a fully fledged episode (aka Episode 0). MAL just separates this Prologue episode from Season 1 as its own entry.

If you want, you could watch this between Episodes 24 and 25 (Season 2 E12 and E13 of Season 2), but this WILL mess with the pacing, so it's recommended to only do this on a rewatch.

The first movie of the Heaven's Feel trilogy, which adapts the 3rd route of Fate/stay night.

The second movie of the Heaven's Feel trilogy.

The final movie of the Heaven's Feel trilogy, acting as the conclusion to Fate/stay night in its entirety.


NOTE:
The Fate/stay night visual novel has an additional epilogue chapter called "Last Episode" that adds on to the ending of the "Fate" route (but should only be experienced after all 3 routes).
You can either read the visual novel to unlock it or watch it on YouTube. It was also adapted as a one-shot manga called "Curtain Call" for Fate/stay night's 15th anniversary; you can find the fan translation for the one-shot on MangaDex.

Fate/hollow ataraxia - Sequel visual novel, not yet adapted.
Garden of Avalon - Book that was included with Japanese UBW Blu-rays, expands on Saber's backstory. A fan translation by UdonSamurai and Manolo can be found online (Reddit).

Prequel to Fate/stay night, showing the events of the 4th Holy Grail War.


A good number of people will recommend watching Fate/Zero before Fate/stay night and to go straight to UBW after, skipping 2006 DEEN, because it'll be "in chronological order".

Watching Fate/Zero before any of F/SN is like watching the Star Wars prequel trilogy before the original trilogy; it works, but it'll greatly change many scenes' context and how you'll see them in BOTH Zero AND F/SN. If you're looking to get into the entire Nasuverse, Fate/Zero AFTER Fate/stay night is the way to go, but because DEEN's adaptation kinda has elements of UBW and HF, Zero after 2006 is still fine. But personally, I'll only recommend Zero before F/SN if the person in question is a "normie"/casually looking into watching the series.

If you watched DEEN's 2006 adaptation normally already (aka all 24 episodes unedited), you can watch Fate/Zero between DEEN 2006 and ufotable's 2014 UBW adaptation.

This is actually impossible to watch because you could only watch this at ufotable's cafe in Japan for a limited time only, so I'm only including this for completion's sake.

The most you will be able to watch is a short trailer and the opening for it, both of which can be found on YouTube.

Optional:
A 2-episode OVA re-edit of DEEN's 2006 adaptation; good OP and decent ED songs, but otherwise skip. Just watch the OP and ED on YouTube if you feel like skipping this.

Optional:
The poorly paced original adaptation of UBW by Studio DEEN. Only watch if you want to see the differences between DEEN and ufotable's adaptations (and why cramming an entire route into 1 movie was doomed from the start).

Highly recommend watching only after you have at least finished both Fate/stay night and Tsukihime in some way. (Tsukihime anime is not an acceptable way to finish Tsukihime) This is because Carnival Phantasm is an comedy anime parodying its source material, meaning your enjoyment of it will heavily rely on getting the references.

Has references to: Fate/stay night, Fate/hollow ataraxia, Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya, Melty Blood.


Recommended watch order (release order):
Episodes 1-8, EX Season, 9-12, Fate/Prototype, HibiChika Special.

NOTE:
A special commentary of gameplay of Fate/hollow ataraxia's minigame "Illya's Castle" featuring the cast of Fate/stay night was also featured, but it isn't counted on MAL as it isn't an animation. If you want to watch it, you should watch it between Episode 8 and EX Season.

Recommended to watch between Episodes 8 and 9 because of release order.

Recommended to watch after watching the main show because the ending of Episode 12 leads directly into Fate/Prototype.

For now, this is the last mainline TYPE-MOON work listed here because it's still unreleased, meaning you would watch the rest on this list before getting here. This is also placed at the end because it being the most recent TYPE-MOON animation by ufotable means the animation will be absolutely insane. So you would basically be saving the best for last.

However, this can also be the first TYPE-MOON anime you should watch because it establishes many aspects of the World of Magecraft and several important recurring characters. The original draft of Mahoyo was also the original foundation for Kara no Kyoukai, Tsukihime, and Fate.


Alternatively, you can read the excellent visual novel on PS4, Switch, or Steam in the meantime.
