assistants to inio asano
Manga
tracing lineages of manga through assistantships can be an incredibly interesting way to discover manga, draw comparisons between artists, and track the vicissitudes of style and technique through the history of the medium. surely there must be quite a lot to learn for an artist who is protégé to inio asano, whose iconic style, deft storytelling, and progressive techniques have brought him warranted praise as perhaps "the voice of his generation" in manga.
here's to the generation that supersedes him!
the following lists mangaka who have (at least supposedly) been assistants to asano-sensei during his career thus far. as always, this list will be based on armchair-level research, so please DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A DEFINITIVE RESOURCE. that said, if anyone spots any missing or incorrect information, i would very much appreciate that you contact me with more precise information!
the list will include one of the most noteworthy manga series' created by each artist, and i will prioritize series' that can currently be read in English in their entirety either legally or via scanlations.
for now i'll organize the list generally by the notoriety of each mangaka.
unfortunately, in order to meet the minimum required titles for an interest stack i had to include two titles by asano-sensei himself.
format:
mangaka
(if the info is available, inio asano titles contributed to)
common english title(s)
magazine
assistants without a manga series on MAL:
ran atsumori
yorimichi ale
young magazine the 3rd
