They both have old teammates meeting again as rivals. Though neither are shounen-ai, there are some moments that make you question whether or not the characters are straight. 

Both series are about a group of boys trying to accomplish something sports-related. Though Free! is more slice-of-life and Kuroko no Basket is more typical shounen, they have some similarities. Both Kuroko and Haruka (the main characters) have the same "kuudere" way of interacting with people. If you enjoy the humor of Free!, the humor in KnB will surely amuse you. While Free! has a lot of fanservice, KnB has little of the sort, but if you like bishounens, both series will appeal to you! 

Haruka and Rin are somewhat like Kuroko and the other players of the Generation of Miracles. Both are about old teammates who meet again in high school as rivals. 

I’m going to try to compare very much things in both shows. So maybe it’ll look like I am searching similarities too far… Anyways, sorry for my English... Let's get started... So. Both have (how could it be else), their main focus on sport (swimming and basketball). Even though Free! is more slice of life and KnB is more fixated on the real sport, they have very much in common. First of all they both have a nice, enjoyable art style, with characters, considered as beautiful (it's all a matter of tastes though, but I hella like all of them). Both of them tell a story about a team that’s trying to ‘achieve’ something (and let’s not forget that both teams were not really ‘spectacular’ before the main characters joined/formed the team). There’s this rivalry between old friends, that used to be in the same team together. Also, something that I noticed was the fact that they’ve ‘theme names’ (yeah, idk how to call it), what I mean is… ehm, the Free! characters all have female names(Rin, Rei, Haruka, Nagisa and Makoto) , while the generation of miracles have all color-themed names (AOmine, MIDORIma, AKAshi, KIse, MURASAKIbara and KUROko, let's not forget NIJImura and MOMOi). Both have a great voice cast imo (even though they don’t have many va’s in common, there’s Shimazaki Nobunaga and Tatsuhisa Suzuki). Oh, and there are lot’s of similiarities between certain main characters? Lot’s of people seem to compare Rin with Aomine, because they once worked together with the protagonist and are now are rivals, but I think Rin and Taiga have a lot in common as well. Both used to live in a Western, English speaking country (America and Australia), in the second season, one of their childhood friends pops randomly up (if I am right, but I might be mistaking, they even had both an injured arm, shoulder and wrist), they both seem to be rude and arrogant at first and their colorsheme is similar. For the other characters… I think you can compare the protagonists Haruka and Kuroko a lot? Because both have a calm, introvert personality, maybe even a little weird. Their voice type is the same and their expressions, such as deadpan faces are sometimes similar as well. The biggest difference between the two of them is that I have the feeling that Haru is taken too serious, by having literally almost everyone kissing his feet, while Kuroko is lot’s of times mistaken as a bad basketball player. The other main characters have less in common but I think you could compare Kise’s rather friendly personality a bit with Makoto his? Only a bit tho. And let’s say that the megane-guys are both a bit weird, haha. But still… I wouldn’t say there is a amazing similarity between those. Oh, let’s not forget there’s a stroking similarity between the High Speed (Free! novels) characters and certain KnB characters. Serizawa and Murasakibara, Ikuya and Tatsuya, Asahi and Akashi… Even their names… Just look at this piece of fanart (http://static.zerochan.net/Free%21.full.1715331.jpg ) and judge for yourself. Oh, and both have lot’s of shippings… I think the biggest difference between the shows is that KnB focuses way more on the sport itself and is sort of more serious. The cast is waaaay bigger then Free theirs and honestly the characters are better developed. KnB takes the time to introduce you to other characters that aren’t the main team, while Free! focuses 90% on Haruka and his relationship with the other (ex)teammembers . I’d say, watch KnB if you’re searching for someone with a ‘deeper’ plot and if you feel like watching a 26+ episode anime. Watch Free! if you’re more looking for fanservice, a ‘lighter’ storyline and just something to relax. I don’t think one is better then another. Some people say KnB is too slow and boring and others say Free! is too rushed. It’s all up to you. In the end opinions are different… I preferred KnB, but as I said. That’s all a matter of taste.   

Well, if you are looking for some cool guys, both Kuroko no Basket and Free! are series to check out. In fact, both series consists of a cast of male characters that are dominant in their perspective sports. They also have rivalries with certain other characters that brings out some of the intensity of both shows. There's some fan service for the female audience. Additionally, both series also seems to have a building of friendship between certain characters. Of course though, there is that sense of rivalry that can be traced back through flashbacks that brings out some animosity. Both series also has a manager/coach who is female but also becomes involved with the teams/clubs that consists of the male dominant casts.  

Kuroko no Basket and Free! are both shows about bishounen boys that were good friends before high school until one becomes a rival (Aomine in Kuroko no Basket and Rin in Free! ).In both shows the more quiet main characters(Kuroko and Haruka) has to defeat their rivals before they can reach their ultimate goal.Both shows also have a female coach who are just as entertaining as the male leads,show the development of their friendships and the training proses they go through before facing their rival.However Free! is a bit more on the slice of life side than Kuroko no Basket. 

•Both are an anime focusing on a sport throughout the whole show. Both are shrouded with immense testosterone from all the male characters, with a few females added in to not overwhelm the show with its manliness. •Both plots focus on the concept of rivalry from old friends they use to compete with in their sport category. •Both anime seem entirely different with the animation and quality of the soundtracks, yet they give each anime the same type of feelings as the audience watches as the story progresses—angst, eagerness, determination, etc. •Both are similar in the competitive-sport-rivalry sense so you might like one if you like the other. 

Rin's peronallity is kinda looks like Aomine Daiki Rin & Haruka's friendship are like Tetsuya & Daiki's friendship... so as his talent, Rin is an athlete who had been practicing since he was a kid, and Haruka is someone who don't care about but love swimming so much those two are really similar with Kuroko & Aomine 

Both about sports although KnB is way more focused on it than Free!, whose purpose is also show the relationships between the main characters and the character development. I want to highlight the fact that I'm talking solely about the anime adaptions of these two series so. The target audience of Free! is mainly females, of course, and probably those who are fond of shipping. In KnB's case it's a way more open one, since girls and boys could watch it and enjoy it equally. BUT If you really are a "fujoshi", believe me, there are a LOT of characters you could ship so no worries. Anyhow, I would like to say that if you've watched Free! you probably will like KnB, but it doesn't necessarily apply the other way round.

Sports. Bishounens everywhere (fanservice too; although Free! takes it to a different level). Good comedy. Somewhat unrealistic skills. Rivals. Childhood friends. You name it. 

Both are extremely good sports anime, though one is swimming and the other is basketball. Both have memorable characters and awesome opening theme music. Both have memorable moments that will leave you stunned and wanting to swim and/or play basketball! 

I'm sorry for making such an obvious rec. Free! = Kurobas plus water. They both have a strong, silent protagonist and a crappy sports team determined to make it to the top. Old friends become rivals whom go to elite sporting schools. The uniformity in names of team members (colors in Kuro and girly names in Free!) is also similar. And of course, the *coughs* pretty boys. The only thing is, Free! has a bit more fan service. 

Both are sports anime that have a lot of good looking bishounen guys (fan service for girls, lol). Both have old teammates compete with each other in high school. 

Both have all male main characters except for the fact that both Seirin and Iwatobi's teams are coached by a female student. The only differences are in terms of genre - that whereas Free! is more "Slice of Life" combined with sports, Kuroko no Basket is more "Shounen" combined with sports. 

Both of them are very sports-centric and have many different characters (with various hair colors) that are namely, males. They both have that feel-good kind of sensation that comes along with watching teamwork, friendship, and all of that nice stuff. And they also are bother rather funny and slice-of-life themed animes, though KuroBasu is focuses a bit more on the sports (basketball). If anything, I find KuroBasu a lot more exciting and fun to watch :) 

- Some second years get together and form a club for practice. - The club is also in a school who never did well at tournaments - The antagonist is also talented and connected to the main character's childhood - There's also a female coach who's talented at her work. The plot is also rather similar: Train at a not-so-popular highschool to meet their rival from middle school at a tournament later. All in all, it gives off the same sports-anime aura with competitive athletic spirit that gets you excited just like Free! does.  

Sports with a lot of fanservice and perfect boys who everybody loves. 

Both are sports anime and deal with the friendship of the team. They both look into the depths of teamwork and how they strive to reach their goals. 

If you enjoyed sports genre type of anime then Kuroko no Basuke and Free! is for you. Both will let you experience what it's like to swim/play basketball. After watching both of these anime, you will probably think "I want to swim/play basketball. Plot-wise, both involve the main characters (Nanase Haruka and Kuroko) enjoying the sports they are in. Later on, they will overcome difficulties with their teammates. Kagami and Rin are also kind of similar. Both have red hair, are arrogant, and in love with their sport to the point that that they will do anything. Teamwork wins the game. 

Both sports shows are filled to brimming with endearing, good-looking high school boys, though Free is more slice-of-life, while Kuroko is more high-energy hype. And, of course, magnificent voice acting performances by some of the best seiyuu boys in the industry today.  

They involve hot guys playing sports. 

These anime are of the sport and bishounen genres. The characters are likable, funny, and cute in some form. Teenage boys in high school who are in a sport team compete with other schools and use teamwork. They have some girls involved who are reliable. 

Both anime are sports related. they both have a lot of match related drama and rivalry Free has better animation but kuroko no basket has a better storyline and more suspense and detail when it comes to the sport being played 

(switch the two anime around) Despite the obvious similarities of both being sports anime and have manservice, both have solid stories, that while cliché, are entertaining and great to watch. Kuroko has a more stronger cast of colourful characters and while they both have good animation, Kuroko is done by Production IG which makes the matches all the more better.  

Action stories and fantasy, both are Funny and have interesting plot . 

Sports anime, do I have to say more. 

Hi, I loved both animes and I hope you love them too! If you're a fan of handsome guys that have great bodybuilding than you will love this anime! But ATTENTION! If you like more of Romance animes I don't think you will love this anime! You may like it, but maybe you won't love it! Because Kuroko no Basket is an anime that focus on the main characters journey to become stronger, to become NUMBER ONE! Now, please see this anime, you never know if will love or like it! If you don't think you will love, plese don't give up on seeing it, it's a great anime! It's worth seeing and I love it! I hope you love it too!

Both are high quality series focused on sports. Team work is very important in both of them. The main characters are both considered eccentric and a little quiet, though assertive. Both main characters have unserolved issues with a friend/friends from their past that they used to be in a team with. In both cases, the main character ends up in a club that was recently started up in their school and challenge more established schools. Lots of light-hearted humor as well. 

SPORTS + BROMANCE: Both shows passion for sports, Swimming and Volleyball, for only high school students. Lots good humour, bromance, beautiful men, and badassery. Both main characters start off as rivals in both shows, but in the end, good teamwork and friendship empowers all. You'll learn to love all the characters as well. :3 

Friendship between guys, hilarious and silly characters, lots of fun. 

The art in both is similar. They are both about sports and have two main characters who are friends and rivals at the same time. There is a LOT of bromance in these two anime. 

Both have adorable characters that you will fall in love with and are about sports. 

If you love the up-beat feel and adorably hilarious characters of Free!, you will enjoy the close friendships and on-point comedy of Haikyuu!! Haikyuu!! has significantly less fanservice and little more focus on the team as a whole, and overall is the best sports series I've seen to date.  

I'm pretty new to Anime and especially MAL, so this is my first recommendation but I honestly cannot stress it enough. I came straight into Anime and Free! was one of my first choices, I loved it, especially the whole slice-of-life and friendship story lines, they're really relatable. I told my friend I was desperate to find another Anime just like it with the same ideas of coming together as a team and breaking down walls to salvage and build new friendships and she recommended Haikyuu!! If I'm being honest when I first started watching it, I wasn't too sure if it was my kind of thing, the artistry let me down a little but now I'm nearly caught up on the series and it's filled that gap that Free! left. Haikyuu!! is based around young boy, Hinata, striving to become an "Ace" in Volleyball and he faces many obstacles but as he joins the team, finds his place in his group of friends their power as a group strengthens, similar to the story of the swimmers in Free! Both Animes show that you can start from the very bottom and work your way up to the top when you have a group of friends helping and supporting you along the way. In addition, Haikyuu!! has wonderful humour and the characters (especially Tanaka) have made me laugh a lot through out the episodes. Don't let anything put you off, I honestly recommend this Anime as a breath of fresh air, filled with the teamwork, friendship, hardships and humour just as in Free! but with it's own unique story and style.  

With a sports theme as well, Haikyuu!! is a great anime for anyone who saw Free and liked due to also be with a load loaded with involvement and characters well built beyond the sport. 

Both animes show a passion for sports, volleyball and swimming. They both show the importance of friendship and teamwork that makes them win as well as some nice bromance to top it off

Im not a sports anime fan to begin with, so this is written from a non-sports anime fan's perspective. Despite sports is not my favourite genre, I still found Free! and esp Haikyuu! entertaining. They both share: -endearing characters -awesome bromance -spot-on humours and jokes -teamwork comes first -beautiful animation -catchy songs (op&end) there are not much fan services in Haikyuu! compared to Free! , but I personally find Haikyuu! more well-developed in terms of story and characters than Free! Don't worry if you hate volleyball, I guarantee you'll be obsessed with volleyball in just a matter of few Haikyuu! episodes (cuz I was one of them...) so if you want to watch more teamwork and exhilarating sports matches, go check Haikyuu! out asap

Free and Haikyuu are both fun sports animes. They both have great teamwork, characters, and rival teams. I just think that you might like Free if you've seen Haikyu, or the other way around. They're both pretty enjoyable, depending on what you prefer. 

Both sport animes and kinda gay 

We all love a good sports anime! And Haikyuu is one of the most popular of them, If you liked Haikyuu I really recommend you watch Free! The characters are super lovable and their development is crazy! I really enjoyed this anime and I think Haikyuu fans will like it too. 

- One of the main characters is a prodigy (Nanase Haruka & Kageyama Tobio), the other works hard (Matsuoka Rin & Hinata Shouyou) - Similar vibes as learning to work as a team - Fanservice - Everyone's driven to win - You end up adopting all of them  

First its about teamwork, the progress of the characters. Its about rivals that are friends and friends that are rivals one of the strongest point in these kinds of anime. You can see the progress of each individual and the teams. Even though I first watched Free than watched Haikyuu, and Haikyuu is really great Free has its own path but it will keep you wanting more and in touch with each episode and each story development just like Haikyuu. And yes both are sports anime even though I wasnt a fan of sports anime these two totally got me rethink that they are both fantastic anime. They will keep you entertained and they both have many seasons and episodes so you will definitely be enjoying them even though I want more and more.  

Both are really entertaining sport animes. Even though they are sport animes they keep you excited and on your feet. Both very emotional and show the value of teamwork/friendship.

both series are about Sports, Free may be not as good as haikyuu but the Solidarity is the same. 

The main cast are all male, both of the plots are about their dreams, accomplishments, and goals. All the characters are very likeable, so it's not hard to pick a favorite character. Also, a lot of fan service (and ships if yer want lol) [you can do the opposite too lol, if you liked haikyuu you can watch free!] 

same upbeat, comedic tone with very likeable and distinct characters. a major theme in both is rivalries. kageyama and haru look like the same person. 

Both are sport animes that have a group of students from a highschool work together to make their goals and dreams come true. Teamwork and understanding, and trust and the main traits that stick out in the two animes.

Two great Animes about two different sports, both with a touching story about friendship, teamwork, success, up and downs and so much more. 

To start this off, they are both sports anime. The main characters strive to be one of the best if not the best. As they are both sports anime, they are moving along with their team.

Both are sports anime about boys sports club, shenanigans ensue. They've both got comedy, competition, and GOOD DUB!! (I highly recommend the Haikyuu Dub) Something lighthearted yet engaging! 

Stories of (mostly) all boys in sports teams at school, one for swimming and one for archery. Lots of similar story beats and themes, especially about overcoming your own fears and weaknesses. Good character dynamics and excellent animation of said sports. 

Beautifully animated by KyoAni with struggling MCs that are in somewhat pitted from something in the past and have quit their respective sport. Both sports anime and many parallels between characters and their personalities. Both MCs are good at their respective sports. -MC with a past -Sports and friendship -Slice of Life -KyoAni -GREAT OSTS

Both shows have a main character who has left the sport due to past hurts and slowly makes their way back through friendship and love of the sport. Very strong focus on relationships, with a bit of a melancholy undertone at times, which I always find intriguing in sports shows. 

they have a similar feel to them, in both series, their friendship is built through the sport and they both have bl undertones, although much less noticeable in tsurune overall free! can give you more depth with the characters while tsurune has more focus on the sport itself 

Both anime have similar theme. Main characters were good at one thing but then after some situation they've dropped this activity. Of course they are both about sports and let's be honest not about the popular ones because both swimming and archery aren't that popular. After two episodes of Tsurune KKK you can easily say that this new series have similar "spark". Same things: - sports - friendship - stubborn but likable main characters - school - slice of life elements

They both focus on a relatively large group of friends and sports. Tsurune is a lot more slice of life-y and relaxing to watch, but similar to Free! in the way that friendship plays a huge part in the plot. The difference is that while Free! is a swimming anime, Tsurune focuses on Kyudo.  

idk how to describe it but they’re just very similar. the characters and their relationships and the whole “we work together as a team” message in Tsurune reminds me a lot like Free! 

Both have similar visual style (both made by Kyoto Animation) and follows the story of male friends that share their passion for a sports. Some personalities are pretty similar across both anime and the overall atmosphere feels pretty good for both! 

They both have similar characters and story .Both in highschool , and the main character stopped doing the sport they love because something in the past . They both are also from Kyoto Animation . 

-BROMANCE/baiting - amazing character development - gorgeous male characters - comedic moments - working hard to win in a sport by teaming up or practicing - one character who is the best at the sport and goes through difficulties - beautiful animation  

- Both are from the same studio, Kyoto Animation. - Both have the same vibes characters. - Both have heartwarming stories about friendship and hard work.  

Both are very alike. Both are around sport, friendship, rivalry, dealing with the past and... if you think about it... and both involve around relays (one swimming, one challenging running). 

While Free is swimming, Prince of Stride is running. Free focuses on mostly two teams in competition and gives a lot of background on the male leads' past swimming experiences, where Stride does very little of that with only hints of flash backs. Both anime are similar in which that the characters are very passionate about training to win competitions and the importance of teamwork, trust, and friendship, so it's inspiring. There's also humor in both anime and the characters of Free and Stride are very similar to each other, as there is the team leader, a member that works hard so they don't drag the team down, a manager, and so on.  

Beautiful boys doing beautiful sporty things. Idol faces, toned bodies, and with character profiles straight out of a dating sim. If you like one, definitely give the other a try. Free is stronger story-wise and the token female protagonist is actually treated like a normal human being. Prince of Stride may not have those things but it does have an enormous cast of pretty boys to fill up for what it lacks in pretty much everything else.  

-Both have beautiful, muscular guys taking a part in a sport -Very colorful animation -Little to no romance (besides the bromance, of course) -Both have a character that struggles to "get back in the game" 

Both are sports anime that revolve around a club that is revived by enthusiastic 1st year students. They both have enthusiastic female managers, similar characters and nice animation.  

Both are sports Anime with no ball sport. Also the protagonists both are obsessed with the sport (Haruka > swimming, Takeru > running). 

Are very similar not only in gender but also in the way the story is told, Free has more character development that Prince of Stride, which is a more basic anime that does not bode well in this area. Both have their faults but its strong point they stand out, show the love of a group of young people through sport. 

Passion for sports, competition, Strong Rivals, High school club, a cute club manager and handsome boys are what it's all about in both Free! and Prince of Stride: Alternative. Also the main characters Takeru/Haruka are fond of running/swimming and totally ready to do it at any place or time!  

Both sport animes, handsome boys and a quite similar characters.  

- They are short animes with only 12 episodes. - Both plots are about a washed-up high school sports club (that was known as it's best club within said sport) that gets renewed/revived and makes it great again within said sport. - The Character designs - For instance they both got a boy that would do great within cross-dressing, a stoic and a guy that seems rather happy-go-lucky at first glance. One of the differences however, is the fan servive. - You liked "Prince of Stride" but want more abs, swimming and less clothes? Go watch "Free!". (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) - You Liked "Free!" but want less focus on fan service and more running? Go watch "Prince of Stride"  

The two show is definitely similar. Pretty and good looking boys? Checked. Chemistry between the boys a.k.a fujo-bait? Checked. Beautiful animation? Checked. And Fujiwara, God, he definitely look like Haru, I just can't stop my inner thought to scream "HARU!!" everytime I see him, I mean just look at his face! and his hair! and his obsession with stride just like Haru is with water. And of course Kohinata and Nagisa with their yellow hair. And their words about the wind too, the difference is it's water in Free and not wind hehe. Definitely should watch this if you like Free, but the plot isn't as good in my opinion. That's okay, you'll still got the flashy animation and the bishounen (y)  

Short and simple; Free is PoS, but 10x better. And about swimming. If you like PoS, I can guarantee you'll like Free. 

It’s the whole concept of starting from scratch to build your dreams that gets me. Both feature a ton of clichés, but also the individual sport team dynamics in both are just so sweet. They’re both more character-based than a lot of sports anime because they’re not really sports shounen, but they also have decent plots. Basic, a little boring, but I didn’t really tire of either because they’re fun!  

Both are sport animes, with beautiful boys and a really strong BL vibe. All about friendship, rivalry and hard-work. 

They are both boys sports animes, the art in both is similar, both show passion for sports, have good humor, beautiful men and bromance. Both have similar vibe.  

Both the shows are about sports. The two main character are sworn rivals in the same field. They constantly challenge each other in order to prove who is the best in this town. Sadly the whole "challenge" part is just a farce and the only thing they're after is each other's Coca-cola ^_^  

In term of animation, both try to make the sport that each of the characters are in to show the beauty of the sport that they partake in. Also something about dudes being cute or something. That too. 

Both are about a fairly beautiful sport BL/Bromance fan service is also included in both shows They give off the same vibe with the characters and how they act towards each other  

Free! has the same sport elements that Yuri on ice has. Sadly is does not have the same realtionship going on, but for the most part it has the same sort of feel with someone wanting to quit what they love. And unlike other recomendations it still has the sports element.

Both amazing sports animes with homo-erotic subplots, whether those are canon or not you'll have to find out, but expect to be drawn in by both story lines. 

well first, its both sports anime. Second they both give off the same energy when you finish it! After watching Yuri!!! On Ice, I felt like I could do anythingg if I put my heart into it. When you finish THE WHOLE Free! anime, it'll leave you on edge wondering what happens next. But it also will put you on ease if you're worried about what your dream or life goals are... if you know what I mean. For me, the characters showed me that it's not too late to dream and as long as you have a drive to do something in your heart then thats all you need to succeed and make it to the top!! I think that's what both of these anime have in common  

This is a similar anime that's based on sports and men are the main characters and there are also some scratches of homosexuality. I really recommend Free if you liked Yuri on Ice!! and vice versa, the soundtrack of the two animes are incredible. 

I noticed that people who like one, tend to like the other. A focus on sports, but also on relationships between the characters. Lots of funny moments. It is clear that there was a lot of passion in creating these anime. Both are set in a small town far away from Tokyo or other big cities. K-On! and Free! are pretty much the same thing but with the genders reversed and one being a music club instead of a swim club.Both show involve the main characters finding members for there club in the beginning to help reach their goal,hanging out and doing cute things and becoming good friends. 

Free! is about a bunch of cute boys in a swimming club, while K-On is about a bunch of cute girls in a light music club. Both have characters which are rather cliched characters, but are more than their cliches. They are both also about working hard towards being the best at something, but K-On does have more messing around. They both also have excellent animation straight from the studio of KyoAni.  

Instead of cute girls doing cute stuff it has cute boys doing cute stuff and in both series there is a group friends that bond over a common hobby in one is music and in the other it's swimming. 

Ladies and gents, don't let the negativity of certain immature people keep you away from either anime. If you like one, you're very likely to enjoy the other. Both have similar, fun humor that relies on characterization.If you like essentially good-natured characters interacting and a peaceful type of atmosphere, I can recommend both anime highly. 

The struggles of establishing a club, great comedy, variety of characters 

Although the premise is different from Free!, both anime share similar themes of friendship, self-discovery, and personal growth. 

K-On! and Free! are both shows made by Kyoto Animation depicting a group of cute boys/girls making a club and having fun. You could say they're ''feels good anime'' that are easy to consume and pretty well made. Finally, these animes are similar also because of their casts composing of 4 (or 5 if you count Azusa and Rin as main characters) high school students that start of not knowing a lot about each other but get closer as the story progresses.  

Both are about a team of childhood friends who used to participate in an activity together until one of them left. They meet back up and try to get the friend to play with them again. So far the plot is the same excpet with karata instead of swimming. Incredibly similar anime.  

•Both are only similar in the way that a bunch of old friends start a club/group in their high school and along the way run into an old childhood friend that they hang out with, who is not the same person anymore. •Both compete in competitions to see if they will meet that old friend of theirs and play "their" sport like they used to when they were just kids. •Both have protagonists who are passionate about their favorite "sport" and it is always on their mind, ignoring all other logical reasons. I wouldn't say if you like one you'd hate the other but, Chihayafuru is on a completely different level than Free!. •They are only similar in the "old friend from elementary school, rekindling the friendship between the bunch of friends, where everyone is in high school now, surrounding a sport that has changed their lives."  

Both are similar in that they center around a sport that the main character(s) enjoy and have enjoyed since they were kids. As time progresses, the characters in both Free! and Chihayafuru lose a bit of interest in their respective sports. However, the love for the sport is rekindled in high school when old friends meet up again. 

Both are categorized as Sports animes, where close friends are separated after elementary school and drastically change. Both follow the changes that occur after they join their individual school teams, and continue to compete and share their love for the sport. Both Nanase and Arata had quit their sport because they had a hurt a loved one, but found it impossible to deny their passion for swimming, and in chiyafuru's case, karuta. 

Big focus on character backstories, character development and sports. When Free!'s drama starts getting heavier, it gives off a reminiscent feeling comparable to Chihayafuru's.

What I loved about Ouran was the variety of characters and the fun but at appropriate times serious atmosphere. Free! has great characters and even though it didn't have the "chasing the girl" aspect to it and is a completely different setting, it's really enjoyable just to see the relationships develop between the different characters and it still has the fun group feeling as Ouran 

- Even though both have really different plots if you liked one you'll enjoy the other one as well - Both are for girls enjoyment - Super hot boys doing super cute stuff - You'll laugh and cry with both shows - Rin and Tamaki same voice actor - Momo and Hikaru same voice actor and similar personality - A girl we can all relate to (Gou and Renge) - Both have just the right amount of gay  

Ouran High School is about a silly club with a good story, so I recommend Free! it's a big more serious but I enjoyed both animes and I hope you watch Free! 

Free! is also about a very talented athlete taking a break, but then decided to come back due to his love for the sport. Free! is aslo really well animated, even the emotions are well shown through the animation.

Free! and Kuroko no Basket are both shows about a group friends competing against an old friend in the show's respective sport .However is that Free! is a bit more focused on the friendship between the main characters while Kuroko no Basket is more focused on the show's respective sport.Free! also has more female oriented fanservice(the majority of it is just them taking their shirts off)though seeing how it's a show about males swimming it's really expected.It also has a bit more shounen ai undertones than most sports anime but at the same time it's poking fun at it.Despite that show isn't filled with an overwhelming amount fanservice that would distract you from the story.Nonetheless both are great sports shows filled with funny moments while watching the cast trying to obtain their goals.

Both anime are about a group of diverse characters that come together to create a group (an idol group in Love Live, a swimming team in Free!). These characters face various challenges that help them to grow and improve together. While not everyone who enjoyed Love Live will enjoy Free!, I recommend giving it a go.  

A group of friends working together trying to accomplish a goal. Both great shows about friendship, growing, and competing.  

(This recommendation pertains to both the 2 seasons of LL and Free) Focusing on the slice of life aspect, both shows start with the premise of getting together with other diverse characters to achieve a common goal. Later on in both series, the goal becomes clearer that the "groups" want to do something big (winning Love Live for Muse and doing a relay in the nationals for the Iwatobi Swim Club) for it could possibly be their last chance to do it together. Both series started off their 1st season as lighthearted and comedic whereas their 2nd seasons were unexpectedly filled with drama, hope and inspiration. The two shows displayed a high school life dedicated to club work and the implications of graduating members on the club. Both series displayed the importance of leaning and growing with another as well. If you were inspired or a fan of one of these shows because of their slice of life aspect and the underlying message of achieving something big together, then I'd say give one or the other a go.

Kimi To Boku. and Free! both focus on a group of guys in their teens. They are also similar in terms of how the plot shows how they've grown from their childhood to the present. Also, there is a supporting female role in both anime that eventually affects the group of boys. 

If you liked Kimi to Boku, then you're absolutely going to love Free! But why? Because all of them are about childhood friends that grow up together or semi-together, they are both slice of life anime but Free! is more of a sports show than Kimi to Boku, and the songs of the anime are amazing. The Kimi to Boku singer, cute voice and all, and Free!'s singer, Old Codex, are amazing J-Rock singers. Just give them a listen!

Both have BL references and have comedy aspects.  

BOTH have cool guys and full of friendship and a little bit of comedy (fun). They have different stories behind the main characters and most of the character have high-spirited about sports. And how they faced the challenges too. A lot of emotional parts too...you will love it by having goosebumps . After watching this, you might have the feeling of wanted to play or try the sport (if you know me ;)  

Run with the wind and free are very similar shows. The reason I say this is not because they are both sports anime but rather the characters. Yes the races are cool but the best thing about both of these shows is the team spirit. Both the Swim team in Free! and the ragtag track team are both tightly knit together,In the end found myself caring more about the characters, their individual progression and arcs more then the actual sports in the anime. 10/10 shows each  

Both Free! and Ping Pong The Animation have a main character who is calm and greatly admire the sport they practice. Moreover, the main characters find that their friends are also their greatness opponents.  

If you find yourself enjoying sports anime and manga, give Ping-Pong the Animation a try. I genuinely believe that is it the greatest sports anime ever made, up there with Slam Dunk! and the other greats. 

Both revolve around a group of boys starting up a sports club together. They have similar characters, lots of cringeworthy yet hilarious moments and if you enjoyed one, you'll probably enjoy the other.

They're both sports anime with cool mc's the series is heavily based of their friendship/rivalary attitude towards the sport showing that they will not lose to each other. If you like cheering for the main character over the underdog kind of theme ya know with hot guys. :) 

They both have a cast of attractive guys, with action although in Free! it's swimming and in DRAMAtical it's fighting a game called "Rhyme". They both have a good deal of focus on male friendship. Both have casts that are almost completely made up of guys with one main character, ( Haru for Free! and Aoba in DRAMAtical). Both Haru and Aoba have something that sets them apart somewhat from their friends, but the bonds are still very strong .They may have different topics and themes, but many aspects of the two are the same. 

Both are about a swimming club in high school, except Free is more serious about swimming and has guy fan service while Kenkou is less focused on swimming and is more about fan service of girls. 

They both express the theme of friendship through sports (the passion, they have for the sport, in this case cycling) and how they want their team to be the best in Japan. Throughout the series you can see the main character overcome multiple challenges as they all go for gold. 

Both seasons of series are the differences from the anime series whose anime is Free! Season series which is the first summer and both are the same.The difference of the anime season is Hibike!.Depending on the different serial seasons of spring and the fall season.The backsound regulator of both anime-making series of music then the composer soundtrack is different.Both characters extracurricular activities depending on the opposite sex between girls or guys  

Beautiful boys, loads of homoeroticism and near-nudity. The art style is quite similar, as is the character design at times - Yumoto looks practically identical to Nagisa (though his personality is more exaggeratedly moe), Ibushi is a dead ringer for Makoto, etc. The general tone is quite different, though - Binan is a parodic, pretty vapid comedy, and Free! has KyoAni's characteristic knack for subtle character development and drama. 

Both are sports anime with male main characters. There is intense competition, but also a wacky sense of humor and bonding. 

Feel-good anime with bishounen that will have to learn to work together to become successful. Both series have wacky humor and don't take themselves too seriously, while still giving nicely developed characters a chance to interact and grow. There are countless of series that do the same with female characters, and aim for a male fanbase. It is therefore nice to see more that target female fans. If you like one, you're likely to also enjoy the other.

Both TV series revolve around aquatic clubs in a state of quiescence due to lack of funding or regular membership, with each facing a difficult task of revitalisation in order to remain functioning. Each feature a predominantly primary male ensemble who ultimately work together to better themselves and their environment. Both anime have a respectively catchy opening and soundtrack, coincided by fluid and vibrant animation. It also helps that the overwhelming majority of characters aren't harsh on the eyes either~ while simultaneously providing substance and personality. Ultimately, both are a good watch!
