Anime 54842 Sugar Apple Fairy Tale Part 2 Reviews

Sugar Apple Season 2, which is really just the second cour of a split cour, is a massive improvement in almost every aspect. The story, characterisation, drama and stakes are much more pronounced and impactful in this cour. It’s a must watch for any shoujo or romance fan.

I personally really liked the first cour, but I can’t deny there were some aspects of the show that felt underbaked. Namely the pacing and overarching narrative which I found lacking at times. Both are much better in this cour. You still have Anne reaching out to and making connections with characters which has always been the ... crux of the story, but we’ve gone away from pure slice of life stuff and entered an actual arc with a tangible villain.

Yea, we had Jonas in the first cour, but he was basically a rapey loser. The antagonist in this one brings a true sense of danger and intimidation, as well as revealing very interesting lore about the world. Anne and Challe’s relationship is truly put to the test and their bond grows much stronger in this one. If cour 1s theme was about Anne’s journey to become a silver sugar master, the theme of cour 2 is Anne and Challe growing to understand one another.

In addition to the overall improved story, I think Challe’s character growth is the big selling point here. In the first cour, he came off as kind of a generic shoujo style male tsundere who the FMC likes because he’s hot. I’ve come to realise that’s a disservice to him. He’s much more than that and has fears and hopes just like anyone else. In order to secure his future, he has to confront his past in this cour and it was cry satisfying to watch.

The gradual build up to the reveal of the villain kept me engaged and once he got on screen and started putting his fiendish plan in motion I was locked in. There’s actually some pretty dark things in this cour compared to the first one and I believe it added a degree of gravity to the story that was missing before. Even before the final arc, there’s deaths, sadness and characters having to overcome loss. There’s blood and some really uncomfortable scenes. This just feels like a much more mature story compared to before.

As I started to touch on earlier, the pacing is much better this time around. There’s no episodes that really drag on. It feels like everything is really leading into something which in a show with only 12 episodes is crucial. If anything, by the end of the show I just wanted more and will be hopefully starting the books soon.

The action, while not frequent, is very good in this cour. There’s a couple battles between Challe and the main antagonist that reminded me this show is by JC staff. With all the slice of life fluff at times it’s easy to forget, but this team is very capable and came through when it mattered. The art continues to look gorgeous and five of a proper fantastical vibe. And the OST is solid as well.

If I were to make any criticism of the show it’s that Anne’s naïveté at times can be annoying. Particularly as it relates to her willingness to forgive almost anyone. (Think Naruto and Old school shonen protag style.) It’s consistent with the type of person she’s been established as, but sometimes I couldn’t help shaking my head at her decisions.

That aside, I have virtually no complaints with Sugar Apple Fairy Tale season 2. I loved the first season and think this is an improvement in every way. A budding romance, good character development, action, stakes and a very fun time. I will miss this show.

I need more of this, the soundtrack and the well directed scenes really transmits feelings, I'm in love with every sinlge character, they really did a good job, even casting the voices, shoujo is not dead and this masterpiece proves it. It reminds me of the "princess tutu" saga, which is sooo cute!! girly coded.

I think girls in general need shoujo on this times, we love shoujo bc of our dreams and hopes, right now the whole anime industry is focused to please boys and that's really boring, we don't want ... to consume anime that invites young boys to be disrespectful to us, we want princes charmings, we want CHALLE, we want fairy's and tremendous company in this such a sad world.

A simple show with a simple premise. The relationship between Ann and Shall is heartwarming, and the art style is very pleasing to the eye, especially taking into consideration the more pastel coloring ala water colors that are not seen often in anime.

One of the things I personally like about this show is that it can be quite dark at times. The juxtaposition to what is overall a lighthearted tale keeps a viewer focused on how the relationship between Ann and Shall is more than just a rote romance anime.

This second part of the first season does seem a bit more contrived than the first ... part, but overall you get what you expect with Sugar Apple Fairy Tale. If you like romance animes with beautiful artwork and the occasional action scene (which when they happen, are very well animated), highly recommend.

Lately there aren't many fantasy romance anime that really interest me, I think romance fantasy stories these days are very predictable, mostly it's just the looks that are good, not the story, like sometimes ml/fl forget their goal and instead create a harem, mc who has been overpowered since childhood or something like that. it really bored me. But Sugar Apple Fairy Tale is different!
I found this story while going through my fyp tiktok, and ended up really liking it. The story makes me relax, I also like listening to the ... opening song when studying or stressed, this make me calming. Shall and Anne are very cute, I really like them. I need more anime like this!

Part 2 of the continuous fairy tale of sugar confections that the apples now don't inspire that much, and with intense drama, does it hold up as well or better as Part 1 should? Maybe, but my feelings are largely unchanged as per Part 1, except with some aspects that Part 2 did better than its Winter 2023 premiere counterpart.

To remind ourselves again, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale targets the Shoujo demographic, so whatever romance elements it had between the main leads of Anne Halford and her warrior fairy of Challe fenn Challe still remains the same as Part 1 does. Only that in Part 2 ... here, both the romance and story aspects are taken to the next level, involving lives and reputations at stake as Anne has become the Silver Sugar Master and is set to, and leaving off from the obnoxious Bridget Paige obtaining Challe for her own satisfaction, but treats him the same since he is a fairy serving humans regardless. On top of that, Anne's position as the Paige Workshop's new artisan head in the preparation of the Holy Beginnings Festival right after the Royal Candy Fair, is in jeopardy since there were not many women artisans, and she serves as the sole inspiration that would help to inspire many other girls to take up the sugar artisan job while still maintaining her best.

But in the process of progression, comes a villain that will change the trajectory of both Anne and Challe's journey: the Red Fairy, first bought by Bridget under the alias Gladus, though his real fairy name is Lafalle, which should surprise no one that he is affiliated to Challe in the same manner of whence they came from. Gladus/Lafalle is the embodient of the villain who still believes that only one race is superficial, since the fairies had always been under the rule of humans under the contract of trading one side of their wing as loyalty regardless of how they're treated, and he wants the fairies to reign supreme and reclaim their glory. The irony is, how Lafalle operates his MO, it's no different from the "humans treating fairies as slaves" premise, and he's just your stereotypical villain who wants his satisfaction be met in a world where much of both the human and fairy population have already moved on to life as per usual and given to the circumstances as it always has been. And indeed, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale had no short amount of drama, from the jealousy and abrasiveness of Anne's childhood friend Jonas Anders in Part 1 to Part 2 with Lafalle who's a serious threat to the Silver Sugar Master and her loyal warrior fairy to be the proclaimed Fairy King.

Otherwise, everything is as the same as it should be of Part 1: the same drama beats that's just as ever affluent, J.C.Staff's still beautiful production values, and the new OST...which while it's good, I still prefer Part 1 overall.

I can see that novelist Miri Mikawa has good intentions on wanting to make her work be known through the anime, but as I've mentioned in my review for Part 1, it took more than a decade (13 years to be exact) for the anime to come out. And by that time, it would have aged poorly against the test of time to redeem whatever the Shoujo market for AniManga has left in its wake. It's a decent showing when combined overall, though I would not want to dabble with future seasons down the road if the show has some, because it feels cumbersome to sit through all of the unhinged drama that this has and will continue to offer.

My sincere compliments for Sugar Apple Fairy Tale's 2nd try, but the skeptical in me still feels that this potential has already been lost to time.

I think this 2nd part of anime is a beautiful and suitable conclusion for the "Sugar Apple Fairy Tale" series. I really enjoy the storyline development and the issues that were in the anime, and the ending makes it more enjoyable to watch.

This anime is recommended for people who likes or new to a mix of fantasy and romance anime. The story in this anime is a classic romance fantasy that were in many fairy tales. The romance between Anne and Chale is so wholesome that I think this anime need to be given many attentions and appreciations that it should have.

This anime is ... so underrated that I think "How can people doesn't watch this beautiful anime?". I am very grateful that I can found this anime and I hope that this anime will be continued until the end of the LN. Thanks for reading my messy review until the end :)

Sugar Daddy Fairy.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale is a pretty solid fantasy series with an interesting world and beautiful art and animation. If you didn’t watch the first half back in winter, the story follows a wannabe sugar artisan Ann as she tries to navigate a heavily male-dominated profession in a surprisingly dark and dangerous world where fairies have become enslaved by mankind.
Part one finishes on a cliffhanger with Ann achieving her lifelong dream thanks to Challe sacrificing his freedom to the weirdly unhinged and obsessive Bridgette to foil the plans of misogynists, Ann now has to track him down so she can ... free him again. Luckily, Elliot just happens to be Bridgette's husband and recruits Ann to help him return the Paige Workshop to its former glory with the hopes of reuniting and getting Challe back.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale’s pacing feels smoother in its second Coeur than in its first. Ann’s new job as the head of an artisan workshop has her expanding her scope and awareness of other artisans and their skills whilst she juggles between leading them capitalising on their strengths and fighting back against the bedridden workshop founder who's stuck in his old way of doing things. Without the biggest piece of shit, Jonas around to serve as an antagonist the show lacks a form of agency for the first couple of episodes. That changes when the workshop moves to an old abandoned castle and the show slowly and methodically builds up the actual threat of the arc whose presence and actions extend outside of sugar confectioneries and expand on the lore of the world, fairies and their culture, and why silver sugar and the confectioneries made by humans are so important to them.

One of the biggest appeals of the anime adaption is the art and animation. J C Staff have been on a roll lately with the quality of their recent anime outputs. Not only are the character designs and the background art gorgeous, but the amount of attention to detail the show puts into making the sugar confectioneries look not only delicious but beautiful is impressive. There isn’t much in the way of combat, but the brief moments where the show goes full-blown anime are an impactful and destructive sakuga experience.

Whilst Challe, Ann and Mythrill are the core trio of the show and I’ve come to appreciate more during the second half, I feel like the supporting cast is a bit let down. This might be different in Light Novel form where detailed writing and context aren't left out because the writers are trying to squeeze a story down so it can fit into twelve twenty-minute episodes, but I felt most of the cast's motivations and personalities were a bit simplistic and needed expanding on, bar a few.

Overall I like Sugar Apple Fairy Tale. It's a refreshing take on the anime fantasy genre where the main protagonist's goals and the world she lives in feel a lot richer and more personal with problems other than the 666th Demon Lord that needs slaying. It might not be everyone's thing. It does suffer slightly from the Yu-Gi-Oh problem where nearly every problem can be solved with card games… I mean sugar confectioneries, but I think it’s worth giving a try if you’re looking for a more interesting fantasy story.

I'd recommend as the art style is very pretty especially when the wings are truly shown or any of Ann's sugar creations and the characters are enjoyable however, I wish it could've been paced better possibly even being split into two seasons fully as some areas feel rushed (mainly the story in episodes 1-13) and as if benefitable info that would've made the story stronger is missing. Something that bothered me was the mentioning of certain plot points but never elaborating. It felt as if there as arcs they wanted to go into but never did, again the pacing was an issue but not enough ... for the story to not be enjoyable.
There are multiple character we meet through the show that either make you love them or really dislike them as they are portrayed really well. Ann's caring character is wonderful to see especially when characters earlier on and especially later on don't show her good nature. Again as i said previously it would have been nice to better know why Ann is the way she is and exploring her past more especially with her mother as her attitude of fairies and humans being friends comes from her. Overall it was good and if there is a second season in the future I'd watch it.

In summary I'd watch again and recommend especially if you find yourself like shows similarly to this but, I found myself wanting more from the show so i suppose this may lead me to reading the manga in the future

My sentiments for part two are mostly the same as those for season 1. While I like the romance aspect of this show, I just don't think it has a lot to offer outside of that. The whole sugar confection artist thing is tedious and not particularly interesting. Everything revolves around it. Friendship and/or sugar confections are the solution to nearly every problem anyone has ever had. I felt this in the first part, but it just gets a little more annoying in the second part. On the bright side all the good remains. I like the art style, and most of the time the ... detail is really good. The cg continues to suck, stop trying J.C.Staff, it's literally the thing your the worst at. Theere are a few more actions scenes in part 2, which were actually pretty good. The music is mostly tracks from season one which is unfortunate, but the op/ed's remain decent enough. Voice acting is mostly decent, but still a little disappointing in certain areas(lidpod). Character depth remains the same from the first season, which is to say good enough. The story has a couple of interesting turns, but the general tone of merry sugar artisans continues to drone on. Pacing is the same, decent, but not great. Overall, same problems as the first season, but the same strengths. Too much candy, too friendship for the win focused as well. It's a decent anime, but I still want to puch Lidpod down the stairs. 6.70/10 Dubbed

Pretty good world-building, especially for a fluffy shoujo story. In a world where fairies exist, much of the traditions and professions have something to do with silver sugar confectionary. I'm willing to swallow that premise more than anime about niche things where suddenly, every challenge, event, and festival suddenly revolves around this obscure interest.

I like the method and craftsmanship they highlight in work sequences, although I wish they'd show even more. Also interesting that the 2nd cour features a storyline that touches on the overarching narrative of fairies being enslaved. This show acknowledges the hypocrisy of being "friends" with people who are treated as second ... class citizens without effecting meaningful change.

One downside - all the challenges the team face just to finish one dang project get ridiculous. I'm half sure Anne was just making up all that drama so she doesn't have to go on sugar-grinding duty.

One of the best recent romance animes out there! Anne is adorable, strong, and just so talented. I love how shy she gets with Challe, and I wished there were more romantic moments between the two. I have to say, like season1, the focus is still on her work as a candy master, but with a twist and the arrival of a new, annoying character. Be prepared to be angry once again since as the mc, everyone is coming for Anne for no apparent reason.
Bridget is insufferable. Anne has more talent in her pinky than Bridget in her whole body. The blonde really needs to ... get devoured by a bear, I'm going to Russia and getting one as I finish writing this review.

Story 7.5/10
After the last part ended and how it ended I wasn’t only worried about how it would affect the story but I’ve got to admit that the first 3 episodes were not that easy to watch for me because I feel like they served to somehow entangle the writing issues while at the same time establishing a new arc. Unlike before I wasn’t as invested at first… That was until the 4th episode when it finally matched up. I’m still not fond of some of the writing decisions they made from the end of the first part and the beginning of this part ... but it quickly pulled me in again after that. We got some interesting concepts and ideas, a lot of action which I never expected to like so much and the romance was solid too. Almost. Because there was something that slightly bothered me and that’s why I didn’t rate it any higher but it’s still a beautiful story with an overall great world-building. Also regarding my last review… It seems like there was a hint regarding the misogyny against women for the sugar craft so I’ll take this back but I feel like there still weren’t enough for this transition it took in the last part. In my opinion they could have done a better job in establishing it. But that’s just a minor issue.

Characters 8/10
The characters I loved in the first part (Anne, Challe, Benjamin, Cat, Keith…) are still likable. Especially Anne with her determination and boldness (even if it can be mistaken for stupidity at times but it makes her very relatable). While the characters I initially disliked (Jonas, Bridget, Cathy and Elliott) are… Well. Before I get to that I’d like to point out that I’ve changed my mind about at least one of these characters (but I won’t say who it is). But overall there wasn’t any good or justified character developments. They attempted to redeem one or the other but unfortunately they did it so out of the blue and without justified reasons that it felt forced. More like everyone simply accepted their selfish behavior, they got away with it and then they were redeemed. I’m all in for characters to get second chances, redemption arcs and proper character development. But that’s not what happened here. Specifically with one character. If that person would have warned the group about something specific and by doing so would have proven there was a change going on even if it was just the beginning it would have been much more believable (actions speak louder than words). And I don’t get why the writers couldn’t manage because it worked the other way around but I guess I just have to take it.
On the other hand, they included a villain “insanely” well written for a shoujo anime. So well it almost surprised me how they concluded this arc… But that’s just my personal opinion. Some scenes still had me on the edge of my seat and I wouldn’t say I like the character but that’s precisely why it’s well done because that person is well written (and earns a lot of points from my rating – aside from our two main characters).

Animation 8/10
Similar to the first part, the animation is beautiful, especially when it comes to the sugar craft. However, the background seemed a little more odd at times. And I’m not sure if it was like this in the other part too but if it was I didn’t notice. So the fact I did simply had me to subtract one point. But it’s still dreamy and gives fairytale vibes.

Overall 8/10
At first I though I enjoyed the first part more and maybe there’s something true to it for being “fresh” and new but objectively this season was clearly better just for the story and let’s face it: for its characters (aka villain). It would have been better if it weren’t for some forced redemption arcs and while I don’t mind the pacing of a slower romance they could have given us a little bit more of that too. Even though I predicted much of the plot it was an enjoyable watch and I’m hoping for a third season (or part?). It’s still an anime I can recommend if you enjoy fantasy, romance and decent (not perfect) writing.
