Picture this: a juvenile delinquent, fueled by a passion for brawling and convinced of his own unpopularity, finds himself transplanted into a new school. But this isn't just any ordinary institution—it's a breeding ground for street fighters, where conflict is as common as the sunrise. However, there's a twist: these rowdy students aren't just thugs; they're the defenders of their town, fighting tooth and nail to keep rival gangs at bay. And believe it or not, the townsfolk adore them, cheering them on as they kick ... ass and take names.

Our protagonist, with his striking black and white hair and a penchant for snarky commentary, is a sight to behold. His journey from loner to local hero is a joy to behold as he navigates the unfamiliar terrain of friendship and camaraderie with a healthy dose of humor and humility.

But let's not forget the real star of the show: the fight scenes. While I wish they were a tad longer, each battle is a masterclass in adrenaline-pumping action, leaving you on the edge of your seat and hungry for more. And with a diverse cast of characters, each with their own quirks and backstories, Windbreakers promises to keep you hooked from start to finish.

So if you're in the market for a pulse-pounding, fist-flying anime adventure, look no further than Windbreakers. Trust me, this is one ride you won't want to miss.

Three episodes in and I'm already hooked, which is saying something considering I stopped enjoying action shonen since yhey seemed to veer away from the characters, opting instead for trivial antagonists and Saturday morning villains for the protagonist to defeat. However, Wind Breakers breaks that mold by offering an interesting cast of characters, a world governed by street rules, and various factions all in one package. and I love it.

So, what's the story about?

Essentially, our main character willingly immerses himself into a world of turf wars and street fights, setting Wind Breakers apart from other stories of this nature. Why? The fact that the protagonist ... chooses to be there. Thats why. It adds a layer of depth that is lacking in most shonen stories and It's becoming increasingly rare in action series. Since most action shonen our main characters are usually thrust into dangerous situations against their will or simply because they're born with or acquired some overpowered ability, without any real reason to be in the story. In windbreaker, we have a protagonist rejected by society who decides to enroll in a school full of brawlers and turf wars to rise to the top.

It's not a flawless story, but its flaws can easily be overlooked because it keeps you coming back for more. You're compelled to find out what this world has in store for our main character after his simple decision to enter it.

Also, character design-wise? It's an action shonen intended for boys but meant to be enjoyed by women, if you catch my drift.

I give the first 3 an 8/10

Another Repackaged Normal Highschool Action Shonen with the same formula, purely carried by the fight choreography.

Let's get the good thing out of the way first. First of all, the fight choreography is a MASTERPIECE in itself to bare witness, for a normal hand to hand combat. The fight scene is so good its remind me of old Chinese fights movie, where you can see every move and its impact clearly [10+/10]. Reinforced by it's very BEAUTIFUL animation, with all aspect of production quality very good, even for action Shonen standards [10/10].

However, that's where all the good ... stuff ends. First, the plot is VERY formulaic of a normal high school action anime. Nothing of note, original, or unique so far [7/10]. The comedy is also very Shonen comedy, aim for kids, which if you like it then good for you [6/10].

The WORST thing by a mile with this show though, is its character writing. Even though character writing in Shonen anime is understandably not that good compared to other genre, this show take it another level lower. EVERY character, even the protagonist, is very 1 dimensional and stereotypical. The cool senior, the screaming sidekick, the emo side kick, the cool but chill friend, the calm cool and handsome antagonist, and ofc the all mighty good protagonist. While the protagonist is arguably unique, it's still very much 1 dimensional unique, and would need to see more improvement. They didn't even hide the basically copied Gojou Satoru (cool senior) into the show, with the same VA and character design! All the same stuff repackaged into a delinquent theme. Character development? BOOM a flashback, about to loose? BOOM a flashback. Overall the very same stuff is NOTHING innovative at all. [3/10]

The delinquents theme isn't even that good either. It's just a re-themed fantasy action Shonen show (namely Jujutsu Kaisen) with just the down to earth style and more cruelty. Can be refreshing for you if you haven't tried a delinquents show before, but overall very the same with other theme. [8/10]

In conclusion, the fight choreography and animation alone can be worth the watch, but honestly the other stuff really bring down this show potential a lot. With the bad character writing, lazy same ol plot, and the brain dead comedy where a character screaming is funny. For a new anime watcher, this can be fun for them and is worth a try! But for anyone who even watch some Action Shounen before, this is the same ol stuff, and there's many other Action Shounen show that worth more the time to watch than this one.
