This could be a hit-or-miss for certain readers and honestly I didn't have high expectation of this manga when I read the first chapter.

Well, what do you expect if the synopsis itself tells you that this MC has sold his lifespan for a few bucks and waiting for his life to end?

I expected it to be a downer piece but as I went along the chapters, I had this sense of dread reading it, knowing that the end will surely come.

Oh boy, it was a ride - feeling of dread, disgust, hope, love, warmth, happiness, hate, et cetera...all of them wrapped ... in an unassuming manga, with a lengthy title.

Art-wise, it's a simple one.

As for the story, it managed to turn me from "meh" at 1st chapter, then it built up the story until the end - it managed to make me to cry my hearts out.

Kudos to the author who kept me engrossed from start till the finish in one sitting.

Once again, some might love this, some might not. Give it a try.

Spoiler free! A somewhat light-hearted tragedy. I originally found this because it was under recommendations for Oyasumi Pun Pun and while I do agree they are both tragedies, this is way less bleak (which is good imo). While you know MC’s days are dwindling down, it isn’t an oppressive feeling because he’s actually pretty happy all things considered. Bittersweet ending, bordering more on sweet than bitter. Made my stomach flip once or twice but got through with dry eyes.

The art is pretty simple, but I think it was effective enough to tell the story it wanted to tell. This was also a super fast read, ... I got through it in effectively an afternoon. I think manga was the perfect format for this — it isn’t super visually stimulating to warrant an anime, and the amount of dialogue vs everything else would make a pretty tiresome light novel.

Honestly, I think that this series deserve better than the 6 I gave, I admit it. The message is amazing, art is decent, it really makes you question the worth of life while there are some parts I don't agree with.

I think that what I hate is main character and their love. I would even love to give way lower than 6 just because of this, but I can't deny that the other things were amazing and some scenes were really exciting.

While art isn't amazingly good and a little plain, it's still pleasing to good at and mature. To be honest, I don't think this ... series would place higher without that kind of art. It creates an atmosphere, you feel like you're reading something deep and serious and maybe take it more seriously than you would. Exact story with cuter art or big eyes wouldn't create the same effect. I appreciate this, but it's also a belittlement to the story in my eyes.


[After this part, I will mostly explain why I hate it, so please ignore it if you don't want any spoilers and enjoy the series. I'm sure everyone will enjoy it as long as they don't hold the same personal opinions with me.]







I hate the fact that our main character wouldn't think about getting to know a middle-aged man better, he would never put the same effort, because a middle-aged man wouldn't be good enough as his salvation. It was his college friend, then his highschool friend, then Himeno. He was dick to two of them and he really weighted on all of his personal feelings, hopes, living reason to Himeno. He omitted her problems, he only had that image of her in his mind and went along with that. He gave so many value to his imaginary Himeno while ignoring the real one, this was what killed her and he never regretted it that much. You might be dying soon, but that doesn't mean the death of the others were unimportant. Himeno died sooner because of him.

Let's move on with the middle-aged man example. He wouldn't put that effort and understanding to a middle-aged man, but he did it for Miyagi. What pains me the most is because Miyagi was his only connection, his last salvation now. I don't think Miyagi was special. I don't think Kusunoki was better than Miyagi's childhood friend, I think that Kusunoki would take anyone because he was desperate and Miyagi was his cute, manic pixie dream girl who was there at the right time. Sounds a little brutal, but that was all. That's why I hate the fact that Miyagi also sold her 30 years. I would straight up rate this story 10 if our pairing was the guy from chapter 8.5 and Miyagi, hell, that guy is actually my favorite character just with a chapter. Also one of the reasons why I didn't rate it lower.



I honestly see Kusunoki as a lazy person, not a depressed person. I am also a depressed person, honestly I think that I don't have that much of will to live and I will just break at some point. But still, I couldn't relate to him. I couldn't relate the fact that he only created a persona and wanted to seen as a weird guy for being remembered instead of being his real self. And that did not change, in my opinion. He was both his true self but also the weird guy from an outer perspective.



Oh, and don't give me that "I don't want to be eternal." bullshit. I think that living a life while changing between the things we like, searching for something, having fun is important without being good at something in a level that we can be eternal. Because being eternal and living something behind isn't worthless. Even though we stop living, the other people don't. Honestly this is such a weak point for this story. And what's worse is he gave up that for his love for Miyagi. At the same time, as I said, in my perspective Miyagi wasn't someone special, she was his last attempt to hold on something find salvation in his meaningless, miserable life, she could be replaced by any other "cute girl" observer.



This hate comes from a personal experience. I was same with Miyagi. There was someone irreplaceable for me, a friend, but we eventually splitted. After that I realized I wasn't actually someone irreplaceable for him as well.I basically felt same with Miyagi, and seeing that the same thing happening again to her was... harsh for me. I felt really bad for her, as a reader. She was... a miserable, loner guy's emotional weight bag, his ideal. I find this toxic, the only reason she's different from Himeno is literally the time, life and lifespan. It really hurts to see all the emotions, love, are that basic and easy to influence.



I think that is all. It's a wasted potential of a possible emotional roller coaster for me. Having a story like that, with many good complex emotions, a good message... All of these amazing things were wasted with that main character. I love Please Mr. Lostman though. Brings back the good memories.
